Not so hot take: Instead of cyborgs, they should've stayed with the "puppet" concept and go from there, that way they can still "innovate" but stay true to the aesthetics and baselines in-universe. Sasori and Pain's Ashura Path are really good examples of that, because early in Shippuden they introduced the idea of human puppets and Pain expanded on that with a puppet-like living body that combines flesh and bone with mechanical weapons

    • @XxDigitalDaftPunkxX

@Bezaliel13 From my understanding, no. She basically has otherworldly charisma that draws people to her (kind of like Miquella from Elden Ring), but she at least knows taijutsu. So, even tho she isn't a ninja, she can still fight. Even if she couldn't fight, her style is so different from the standard fashion trends in Naruto

Even without the rather obvious theme of "heroes triumph with hard work while villains relied too much on powers" to muddy the antagonists needing practical clothes, *why would Eida dress to fight?*

I just hate how everyone in Boruto now has the same style (those annoying belts/high heels), while in classic Naruto, their outfit choices reflected their personalities. For instance, Ino who wore her headband around her waist, indicating that she pays a lot of attention to her figure, probably being on a diet.

    • @darryljack6612
      @darryljack6612 14 дней назад +36

That's not true, the reflection of their personalities are there you just aren't seeing them. Take ChoCho's design in both the manga and the anime. Cho Cho herself is not as self loathing about her weight as her dad was in his youth. In the manga she wears bright pink and yellow expressing her femininity. And her outfit is adorned with butterflies which shows her pride as a member of the akimichi clan. In the Anime her color scheme becomes white and yellow which shows her pride this time to her mother, as those are the common colors of the cloud village from where her mother is from. Each outfit gives a look into ChoCho's character.
It's not just her, take Both of Inojin's outfits showing his love for art and or appreciation for his father, while also having the violet hue of his mother.

    • @Manganization

lol what. Y'know just on the designing process that's literally a required thing right? Like, no designer ever goes "hey let's NOT reflect any personality in this character design" This is such a stupid take.
Or maybe you forgot the part when _Kishimoto_ designed Sarada, he gave her glasses to portray her as a straight forward character that takes things a bit too seriously and is strict on herself and others.
Or maybe you missed how Chocho is designed to look like a gyaru and has a touch of Sukeban to show how she cares for her appearances, but also has the spirit to fight for what she believes in.
Or that Inojin sported an artsy look in his early years since he favored his dad's jutsu compared to his mother's clan - however he still wears purple to proudly show that fact.
Or that Kawaki is meant to look like a rebel wayward gangster with his bleached hair, ripped clothes, tattoos, and piercings.
Or that Himawari keeps a balance of cute and cool with her simple shirt, baggy pants and belt (that she didn't use to wear bc she was just a child before, but since she trained a lot with chocho, she also picked up fashion. And considering she doesn't have a mom for her teen years, makes sense.)
Heck, Shikadai clearly shows his lazier side by just wearing a jacket over a plain tee. And then when he turned genin, he opted a simple beige top to reflect his father.
Or that there's this thing called TRENDS?? Maybe you missed it: but Naruto and Naruto shipudden also has characters who showcased their fashion statement even in a war torn world. Their ninja outfits were _uniforms_ that they occasionally alter to fit their tastes. And now they're allowed their children to further explore that.
Or maybe you just _DON'T_ want to look and think?

The annoying thing is that the anachronistic designs and world CAN work but not like this. For example in Gintama the characters are living in the Edo period but they can take a spaceship to go to Mars, and there are two reasons for that. The logical one is that the aliens who occupied the Earth brought their technology with them, the real one is that Gintama is a gag anime and nothing is meant to be taken seriously while watching it.
In Boruto's designs things don't develop from other things, they just emerge. There is no development period, or cultural background and it is jarring.

I think the flak jackets actually make a ton of sense-Naruto may be a world without guns, but it does have tons and tons of explosives and explosions. Flak jackets, as the name suggests, are meant to protect against shrapnel wounds from fragmentation explosives, not gunfire. If I lived in Naruto-world I'd totally want a flak jacket to avoid getting pincushioned by shards of kunai given how often they toss around those explosive tag things.
This is the most minor nitpick, by the way. I totally agree that Shippuden-era Naruto and Boruto's character designs were ass, though I do have a soft spot for Sasuke's gay pirate (tone: affectionate) outfit.

I have a huge soft spot for the series because I was obsessed with it as a kid and it was my gateway into fanfic, but the Land of Waves arc was the first and last time (outside of anime-only filler) that they got hired to do actual ninja stuff.
After that every single mission they went on was just advancing the "main questline"-go do ninja exams, go get Tsunade back, go get Sasuke back, go save Gaara, go get Sasuke back, etc... etc...
There was so much cool worldbuilding at the beginning! Having special-ops ninjas whose job it was to retrieve the corpses of ninjas who died or fled so that they couldn't be used to reverse-engineer secret ninja-techniques, the fact that the villain was just a mafia boss with a squad of hired goons and assassins instead of some enemy super-ninja, the stuff about Haku getting run out because people were afraid of ninjas with special abilities, that was all cool as hell! I sort of wish that Naruto had been more of a procedural drama where it focused on them getting hired to do missions like espionage, theft, assassination-y'know, ninja stuff-and the "main plot" development was a slow burn in the background.

It seems very strange to me to have an opinion on the character designs and aesthetic of series when u haven't watched/read even half of the prequel and non of boruto or boruto tbv or any of the light novels or movie sequels that provide alot of the explanations and relevant background to what your criticizing. The designs in boruto are urban and completely different from the designs and aesthetic of naruto because that is quite literally the POINT. That is not accidental. Boruto is a series that takes place in a time of peace for the first time in the history of the naruto verse. So of course in an industrial and technological revolution where characters rather than coming up with creative ways to kill each other are all working together for the advancement of the world, the technology, and the new culture which had their ground works set up in naruto shippuden and naruto the last. It is now given a chance to thrive. The characters dont dress or act like "ninja" because what it means to be a ninja has completely evolved which is reflected in every aspect of the world building. Ninjas are no longer child soilders brought up in a cruel world for the sake of murdering people for the benefit of feudal lords rather they are trained and brought up to positively benefit society being able to not only actullay enjoy a childhood but also learning the techniques of their forefathers the maintain the legacy of their predecessors. In regards to the technology we already had things like aliens, robots, human and animal cloning, rockets, advanced medical technology, fire arms, advance machinery and etc... in naruto shipuuden so ofc during the industrial revolution of the series all of that would be exacerbated. Boruto is about a unified advanced world going up against an external extra terrestrial threat which again was set up at the end of shippuden and in naruto the last. Whether you like it or not ofc is up to you and ur own opinion. I personally dont love or hate boruto but this analysis imo lacks A LOT of relevant nuance which is very apparent as someone who is completely caught up in the story. No hate intended at all ofc just my own perspective on this think piece.

One of the reasons I loved Naruto as a kid was because I remember reading in one of the qna segments in one of the earlier books, someone asked Kishimoto what time period Naruto was set in and he basically said 'idk, some point before the invention of guns' and I thought that was cool because it made the series feel more separate from the other manga running in Jump at the time which were set in a more modern or pseudo-modern time. I fell off the series once the Pain path that was essentially an android got introduced, because it felt lame. I came back to check out Boruto when it released, and the sudden modernization felt disappointing, especially because they don't really address the impact that would have on a society centered around warfare. It feels like they should have just made Boruto an Edens Zero situation, where everyone resembles previous characters, but it's completely unrelated plot wise.

Kishimoto never said that. Maybe someone lied but Kishomoto never said Naruto was set in a period before guns. He said there isn't s specific period Naruto is set in but he intentionally set Naruto in a world where ninja and technology coexist to a certain extent. We saw this by the fact that in the Chunin exams and other missions, they were literally using radio. What Kishimoto said about guns is that he won't introduce guns because they would mess up the series (but it didn't). It's not Kishimoto's fault you were operating in nostalgia. Ur comment proves that
And they DID talk about the ramifictions of rapid improving technology and how it would affect the world; in the manga and especially the light novels. The Kakashi light novel literally had a whole arc dedicated to the worries even Naruto had about the advancement of technology

@@mawandembatha6622 Looking into it, it seems like it was an interview in Shounen Jump over The Art of Naruto: Uzumaki Book that came out in 1999. I couldn't find the exact volume because all the links online are now dead, but a scantalation I found was translated as thus:
      - Do you have any rules about what is definitely not allowed to be drawn in the "Naruto" world?
K: Firstly, projectile weapons such as guns aren't allowed. (The one exception
is Inari's bowgun.) Guns aren't suited to ninja. Gunpowder is used in the anime,
though I don't think it should be there. And, vehicles such as aeroplanes are
not allowed. I try to restrain technology that can be used for war... For example, if missiles were in it, it'd be the end. (laughs)
There's also an image of page 115 of that artbook that apparently had the same interview in the original Japanese that machine translates to "It's probably not a time too different from today" and then a similar quote to the one above.
Now, obviously this was later retconned, but that was what was said. I suppose my child self didn't read the first part and just assumed that a lack of guns could only mean that the time period was before guns, rather than Kishimoto just actively choosing not to draw it. That was my fault, but that doesn't change my ultimate point about how the setting of OG Naruto was unique and that, in a war-based society like Naruto's, the explicit limitations on modern tools of war was notable and had an affect upon me as a reader. So later, when that was changed, it felt like the series itself had turned into something less engaging, leading me to drop it.
Also, to address your other point, I do know that the manga talks about it, they just don't talk about it to a degree I personally feel is appropriate for how major of a change it would be. I haven't read the Kakashi light novel, and I don't think I should have to. Light novels are ultimately supplementary material, I don't feel like they should be used as a substitute for addressing a major change in setting that affects the whole story. And if it does cover such key information, it should've been adapted to the anime, like they did with Sasuke Retsuden.

Knowing lore is extremely important for judging a character's fashion sense:
Eida *is* other worldly, directly connected to Otsutsuki aliens but who have human like figures; she is modified by Amado, a human, so it makes sense she looks more human like than alien or cyborg, and Eida doesn't have to fight like ever, her dojutsu completely prevents her from that as people fall in love with her instantly 💁🏾‍♀that's just *one* of her dojutsu too, one of her others is changing perception universally (hence constellations on the fit); she has tons of hacks and her OP little brother to protect her & I feel her fit reflect *All* of that
As for Sumire, yea she should be more combat ready but she's damn near filler; in the manga I have never seen her fight, but she is important to the plot bcuz of her connection to Eida and not falling in love so she plays a role in being on the sidelines on purpose to gather intel
Sarada PTS has no reason to look that mature we all know this, I agree with that she shouldn't have heels as well, but considering I'm trying to separate the close minded male perspective of the author from the character (which is very hard to do) and trying to say Sarada has her own char agency to decide what she wears, in that mindset I can say her timeskip outfit makes perfect sense for her character as a development from what it was and also as she falls more into her Uchiha heritage, as a big part of her origin is not understanding her clan's history but she does much more so in TBV
All the negative comments u said about Code I am so here for tho lol we stan Code slander round here 🫰 but that also makes sense for his char cuz he totally *IS* "a teenager trying to dress himself up" and fumbling lmao he's annoying, thinks he's the shit, and is trying to copy Otsutsuki ways so i Guess their attire elements too?? but none of the Otsutsuki look like damn Black Butler Sebastian so idk haha

Naruto handled technology pretty well. There was always some sort of (primitive) tech gadgets existing in the universe which never looked conflicting. All Boruto does is "gadget-ify" what was in Naruto (there is legit a ninja scroll turned pen drive in the show) and make it stand out and just look like a huge mess. The only thing that was somewhat likeable about this whole trope was the Ao arc and how this retired shinobi interacted with the new advancements.

One of the biggest parts of Eida's character is that no one can harm her, so for her to have an outfit that's very impractical to fight in is actually a very good design decision, although it could be a bit more impractical. Writing this comment right at the beginning of the Eida section: “this is clothing you could never wear into a fight.”
She has literally never gotten into a physical altercation and has never been shown to have physical fighting skills. She currently has one technique that has two variations, one being passive and the other being reality warping. She doesn’t need to wear her outfit into a fight at least from what we have seen.

    • @Makyou87

      @Makyou87 26 дней назад +54

Sarada actually would have been a good example of a physical fighter wearing impractical clothing but you didn’t have a section for her which is weird.
Third example: Code. His outfit is weird but also reflects his personality well because he has an inferiority complex from being a failed vessel for Isshiki and having his “will and goals” imposed on him. He’s trying to live up to that ideal by looking cool and edgy and when teens trying and look cool and edgy they normally end up dressing stupid most of the time. We have all been there.
The tech elements mostly came from Kishimoto wanting to move on and do more sci-fi manga. That’s why he went on to Make Samurai 8 but he was pulled back into the Naruto universe because it has been popular and is the big money maker. I don’t begrudge him for including the stuff he actually wanted to write about in his manga has was essentially strong armed into continuing.

There are some misunderstandings. Delta is a robot. Kashin Koji is a cybernetically enhanced clone of Jiraiya. Daemon, Eida, Code, and Kawaki are all cyborgs (not robots). So, they're humans... But their bodies have been significantly modified by technology.
I respect constructive critique but this video falls short. You make it evident you have a limited understanding of what you're talking about. You haven't made an effort to finish Shippuden, nevermind reading the supporting material (i.e, canon novels covering the 15 year blank period). I worry you didn't even read the Boruto manga...
Next, have you considered that the designs consistently change between generations?
Hashirama, Tobirama, Hiruzen, and Madara were all alive close to the warring states period. Their combat attire is more akin to armour, and many shinobi of their time carried swords. It was demonstrative of their lives being a near-constant state of war.
It likely wasn't since the establishment of villages that their work became more covert, and less innately, life threatening (with finding cats now being "ninja work"). Hence, the attire changed. It wasn't necessarily just about surviving anymore. And though uncertain, peaceful periods existed.
Boruto's era is mostly peaceful (within the 5 great nations). As such, the shinobi don't look, or at times, feel the part- the 5 kage of the time discuss the matter.
Naruto has faith they can pass on the meaning of being shinobi. Sasuke, in novels and anime, conveys his belief that the greatest shinobi moving forward, will be those that stay true to tradition (i.e, honing techniques, skills, and training), while understanding and applying science/technology, in a way that supplements their capabilities- as opposed to being a stand in.
But seriously, fair credit is never really given in the video. Konohamaru, Kakashi, and even Yamato all had designs that felt expectable of a Naruto sequel. Even Naruto and Sasuke's adult designs were agreeable.
In all honesty, Sasuke actually captured the feel of being a fragment of a lost era. They represent the darkness the current peace was built on as well as the traditions and convictions associated with real ninja.
Also, be fair in understanding that Kishimoto discouraged Ikimoto from following his style and designs too closely. It's not necessarily all Ikimoto's fault.
Lastly, tf you mean Kashin Koji's design doesn't fit Naruto? It was one of the few Kara designs that felt like it adequately captured the mix of time periods. Like low-key, I think there's point to make, but this video just isn't it 😭

Naruto in part one had freezers for milk and ice cream, Radios and Movies in colors, we couldn’t even get that last one till the 70s and they have their in hd! In the course of 20 years since the year 2000, we made high pressure water canon that cut like a light saber, the internet, escaped bad internet, made robots, made Ai who now steal art unfortunately and created medicine that numbs any bad thoughts. Boruto takes place 15-16 years in the future, they could totally reach that technology advancement that we have when they have jutsu that can bring back the dead and teleport. Though this doesn’t fix any of boruto designs problems just a cute thought I had.
As for favorite design it would be early series Delta cause as I really like her fluffy nimbus like hair, color scheme that doesn’t make me vomit like most of boruto cast and she looks like an adult woman who very confident in her looks…. I was thinking, the presence of chakra could have the opposite effect on technology. Because they have superpowers thanks to chakra, they don’t need to advance in technology. For example, they don’t need stoves because they can just use a small fire jutsu to start up a fire for cooking whenever they need.
In the age of Madara and Hashirama, 80 years before the start of Naruto, it was basically Sengoku period. That’s the Middle Ages. 😅
In Naruto, we see many peasants dressed in traditional peasant garb, doing traditional farming work… with ploughs… bull-drawn ploughs, probably.
Sure, the average citizen has light bulbs… But other than that, it was just Orochimaru’s labs that had stuff like janky computers and DNA tests. I guess, since Orochimaru turned good, he started cooperating with society to bring technology to everyone…? The public’s adoption speed is too quick, though…

I hope you read these and take it as constructive criticism because theres a a big difference between having legitimate constructive criticism and just misrepresenting a series by doing the bare minimum amount of research, its fine that you didnt want to watch a 293 episode show if your not interested in it but it would be wise to at least do the research on the specific areas you want to comment on.

Thats not how Technological progression works, its not solely linear and does not advance at the same rate every time, the jump in technology between the end of the 19th century and the start of 20th century was larger than the jump between 12th and 16th century, ontop of that your presumptions on how advanced naruto's world was prior to boruto is just straight up wrong, electricity , radio and even televisions are existed as far back as the first 20 chapters of naruto, in fact the bio engineering found in naruto outclasses what we can do in our own world, and thats within the village not outside of it.

    1. Eida is not a shinobi, she isnt even a fighter, the series emphasizes that she doesnt enjoy fighting and will avoid it if she can.
    2. Eida is not a robot she is a cyborg, cyborgs are by definition humans who have been augmented.
    9:55-: 12:43

The reason why Eida and Sumire don't really have practical/ battle ready outfits is because they're not fighters. Eida has two powers and one of them is that the second you lay your eyes on her and you fall in love with her to the point where you can't hurt her and time skip Sumire is basically tech support so she stays in the village and isn't a fighter which is why she got rid of the thigh pouch, she doesn't need it. Sarada tho I totally get she is a straight-up fighter and her outfit may be very stylish it's not very practical. They could have kept the stylish outfits while having practical outfits by just having two different designs like they did with Naruto at the end of Shippuden. Post-war and the last Naruto movie Naruto had two outfits of village outfit which was a white T-shirt with orange hoodie gray sweatpants and flipflop looking sandles and it was a very relaxed look. Then he had his mission outfit which was a lot more practical with the normal Shinobi sandals with a really thick soles and is basically just a color swap version of his boruto design. Also the technological advances weren't ikimoto's choice that was actually something made by kishimoto as kishimoto loves sci-fi and his other series samurai #8 that was a very sci-fi stooped world was canceled he just kind of brought that to boruto.

  • @Locky_Games

This video genuinely sucks, and I'll explain why. The fact that the video creator didn't even read Boruto and did "research" instead shows that they don't know the context of why things happen. The video creator probably saw an image of Boruto with a lightsaber and didn't think much of it, when it's only there for 1 arc and for a good reason, however I'd be getting into spoilers. Another reason why the video creator should've read the material your studying is to know the context of why the characters are designed the way they are. Eida is not a shinobi and doesn't get into battles because she says they are "barbaric". Also a cyborg is a human with mechanical enhancements, those enhancements will get into spoilers. Sumire was the class president in the ninja academy, and is in the science field in Konoha, so she doesn't fight that much and plays a supporting role. Finally, Code is not a shinobi in the slightest, and is a cyborg. There's also not much I can say about Code without getting into spoilers. Obviously you don't have to like the designs, I prefer Naruto's character designs, but who cares if a sequel has a different style when coming to character designs. As long as the fundamentals are there in the story, it should be well done, and Boruto has these fundamentals of Naruto, just expressed differently.

As a result it’s world building and everything is just mediocre compared to Naruto. Even Boruto's obsession of becoming someone like Sasuke is baseless and outright cringe. Sasuke became who he is today mainly because of his brother and Naruto. He had a character development. But for boruto it just feels like he is causing trouble for everyone. And also he is very disrespectful towards Naruto at the beginning. Even though Naruto is a hokage he tried to be there for his family as much as he could. @@LoopyLemon775 so you call everyone clothes like Sarada strippers?
Where are you from? You will run into a lot of problems with those narrow minded beliefs.
Pls make your own opinion. Sarada's clothes are perfectly fine. Also there's no standards for strippers' clothing.
Stone Asian? Boruto is set in the 2010s and it is not limited to Asian aesthetics.
If you have watched the anime, there is a fair amount of variety in clothing, buildings and aesthetics.
There are literally villages full of black people. While In Japan it wouldn't make sense. Naruto/Boruto world is different from our world. It can include different clothing trends from different ages. It's been a thing in Naruto from the start. Literally Naruto wears sports jumpsuit lol. Isn't it supposed to look out of place?
Code design is fine and he naturally looks like a vampire. You can't blame him for that lmao.

Well there is a problem with how 12 year old girls dress in boruto tho,
Sarada is dressed like a actual stripper lmao.
That aside, I love drip in anime but it has to make sense and fit within the aesthetic of the series,
The fashion doesn’t fit in the naruto verse at all,
Code dresses like a British royal vampire which looks out of place in a world that’s majority asian aesthetic and very obvious meant to be asian aesthetic.
The only new boruto character that looks like they fit into the world is probably jigen and kashin koji.
Other than them the rest of the cast need a massive overall in style.

ikemoto is inspired by fashion magazines like " Elle " and not jojo. Manga fans have so little artistic culture that for them doing a fashion cover is a reference to jojo.
