Shirase doesn't live alone, but with her grandmother, you can actually see her pouring water on a cat in ep.3 right after the OP and in Shirase's flashbacks in episode 12.

Your point about femininity really struck with me.
As if late, I've been looking into media (mostly anime and games) through the feminine POV. I've grown mainly on "catering to teenage boys" kind of media. Now I wanted to look at the other side, see how what feminine qualities are and who they are portrayed (or which enhance) that particular media.
So, looking back at shows like Cardcaptors and cartoons like Totally Spies (which I used to watch as a kid) now, it feels so... new. Like I've never viewed stuff like this before.
That's why I've been going into more girl shows as well as watch general shows with more feminine POV. I'm still bad at it, but I'll make some progress.

WTF?!?! That's me! I read that much! I went to the library every week and finished massive novels in two days or less, only to start the next one right away! I felt that desire to be adventurous, and, to an extent, still do today! I even read that exact series of books, a multitude of times, and I loved it!!!

It's so funny how I almost didn't watch this video because of some of the reasons you brought up.
Even though I loved Yorimoi, I'm somewhat tired of the old "every anime youtuber makes a video about that one popular show of the season and they all kinda say the same things" (I had already skipped Geoff's video, for instance, specially because its title suggests simply being a recommendation), but then I thought "I should give Lachlan the benefit of the doubt" and, well, it payed off! Great video all around, not just because of the meta aspect but also because your points about the show were some really specific things that you found interesting instead of going for a broad, but bland approach.

  • @clearandsweet
    @clearandsweet 6 лет назад +7

Wow. From 4 minutes onward, shit was real. Relating the onus of making content to Shirase's desire to get to Antartica... oof. That hit me hard. That whole parallel there is perfect, and 1000% exactly what you say about making your desires come true.
And hey, I couldn't imagine a better show for everyone to be talking about. If it causes more people to watch a great show, all the better. I loved your points too about how the girls break out of their roles, too.
Thanks so much for this video. It's some good stuff, even if your sceencap shows that you didn't watch my video. Yet, I'm sure!

Funny how you can undercut your own sense of value despite the fact you dedicate yourself almost entirely to that goal or passion constantly. I've been writing almost non-stop since I was 7, and though I sucked at it at first, now I understand enough about the craft to have enough confidence to show and advertise my work, while at the same time questioning every choice of word written, every expression, every line of dialogue. Whenever people refuse to read, or say they will and don't read my work, my confidence dies a little, which is to be expected but shouldn't happen, because I'm expecting or demanding something of people whose passion isn't in question. I love my work, and most of all, I love doing it. I doubt it, but I think that makes it better, because every 20 revisions I do come from a place of focus and scrutiny. I believe you're similar. You have something to say, and you should say it. Other people can make videos about the same subject, and maybe your opinions and points may be similar, but none of these other people are you. We subscribe to you (I do, at least) because we enjoy your videos and want to hear your opinion regarding whatever anime strikes your fancy. I think I've literally consumed all the videos you've put out so far, and I've even been convinced by one of your videos to explore this or that anime. I understand working with the constant feedback of other people (e. i. the internet) can leave a person reasonably raw, I fear I couldn't handle it myself, so I always admire you and people like you who undertake this task under the scrutiny of many, be they fans or, maybe in the most part, not even close to that. I won't tell you to stop feeling self-conscious about your topic decisions because that would be impossible, but at least be aware that what you do is appreciated and valued, at the very least, by this person.

So I just finished this series yesterday. I wanted to look around for anyone talking about it and found a mountain of stuff lol. Anyway great video. Defiantly one of my favorite anime of all time now. One thing I wanna mention is how amazing the comedy works in this series. Because it does such a good job at themes and emotional moments almost no one talks about it. Funniest moment was the mom cooking scene for me.

Ha, I had a semi-similar revelation after i put out my own Universe video.(admittedly a few days later then i intended) but then I blink and there's a million videos on it. Which is cool IMO. Means I wasn't alone in my deep appreciation for this show.
I haven't been a creator for long enough to personally grasp the meta aspect of this yet but from me personally, I'd watch just about anything you put out pedro, The way you form a script and video is entrancing to me and I wish I was anywhere near the writer you are.

I really like the way that you took a shotgun approach to pointing out different neat lil' specific things about the show. When I watch anime I tend to pick up on one or two small creative choices that seem neat to me, and then I wonder - how many equally cool creative choices did I totally miss?
Videos like this (or even videos that just point out one specific cool lil' thing) help me see more of what I missed in the show, and just generally mirror the way I watch anime much more closely than the more broad, sweeping analysis videos.
Basically - thank you for making this sort of video, because it's the sort of video that I like. Also, you write good.

ThePedanticRomantic 5:35 That is by far the best synchronization & relevancy between an anime edit and your voice dialogue I have ever seen in a video! Your topic and the topic of the anime being voiced over were in a perfect harmony. When you mentioned "fatigued adult mind" the anime panned over to the clearly asleep looking character in black and my brain is left to make the realization that that black asleep person is in fact your "fatigued adult mind." Not to mention the character before hand clearly upset and can't fall asleep seeming something is "rattling around in that character's brain." Like maybe a good video idea or something? ;)
I am by far impressed with your videos having the editing genius that they do behind them; making nearly every video you publish a top quality, work of stellar art!
As Maximus said in the great 2000s movie "Are you not entertained?!?!" And I am by far, entertained!!!

ThePedanticRomantic Just finished it and oh gosh so much to say.
Ever since I watched Davoo's "analysis isn't a hose" video, I've been super jaded towards media analysis vids on YT. And meta media analysis vids. They've really stopped being videos that actually help you digest the content and more affirm that "yeah!!! ur smart bcuz u noticed the themes i noticed!! wow!!! look good writing! heres the take away point you couldve gotten yourself!!"
It's just like IRL academia, I pat myself on the back for being such a good media consumer and go on to watch Good Shows And Videos With Points.
But this one was different for me. I already loved this show and thought it was Critically Saying Something and ohoh I'm So Smart for noticing! yknow I had gotten the jist of the show, be good to your friends and do the thing you want to dammit and I was like "ah what a nice message. ill think about it :)"
And you know, you talked about that. But you also took that and went deeper, made it personal, and pointed at me--or all of us? And then you made me empathize with you and how this show could be used as a mirror to your own struggles and then flipped the script and went "Ok Iyx, but I was really talking about how this is all of us."
And you're right, I had watched the show and gotten what it said but totally failed to apply it to myself. But I really need to. This is exactly for me, senior about to go onto college who has lived a pretty whatever life and has goals and wants to do something crazy and cool but just can't. Sure I blame my mental health issues or my workload but it really is just insecurity. And just like, fuck, I need to follow in your and the show's footsteps and just do it. And try.
Your advice at the end is something I've seriously never heard before. Make a plan, sure, but also just hang around and try your hand at the thing you want to do and gdi eventually something will happen. In such an overall cynical and regimented society (just look at all my classmates), this video just reminded me that... the world is open. I have time. I can do things, I can ignore what people think of me, and just trying stuff and having hope and not following all these strict paths and plans is valid too. I... already sort of knew that but I needed to hear that right now.
Also the part about running really got me because that was my favorite part of the show and no-one else really talked about it? Sometimes I just wanna put on my shoes and run and and run and run until I'm tired. And I do that, and I always enjoy myself and laugh like they did in the show. I have so much energy and potential!! I can do it!!! Just do something crazy!!!
It's 11pm and I need to laundry but GOSH what a great video i love it thank you so much and keep making this content ive always really enjoyed ur vids but i absolutely love this one!!!! yeah!!! (sorry for spilling this all out in a yt comment haha ;>_>)

As a guy who has gotten tired of analysis videos pretty much after the surge of BNHA videos, as much as it would be good to see something different, I don't really feel the need to have this pressure on everyone who's still conforming to this formula. I just engage with them a lot more passively now than before but as someone who has tried to make some myself, I can still respect this dedication to consistently put out edited videos.
I especially don't think you need to put this un-needed pressure on yourself when I still think if it's a topic I feel interested in that you are covering, I'd still watch it. Just keep doing what you do and I'm sure you'll learn things along the way.
I also feel that analysis videos just are a double-edged sword, the more of it you watch, the less of it you need. I mean the fact there are even video essays talking about video essays is kind of proof of that, where once you understand ways to look at the media you consume, you'll apply it to all the media you consume. I feel that this disillusionment to these types of videos are just kind of the natural course of what they promote. I certainly feel more enjoyment when reading back my own essays than hearing others talk about their shit, but that might just be the ego talking.

I actually didn't think of Shirase's mania towards going to Antarctica as odd prior to seeing/hearing that statement. She has a goal and she's working towards it.
A bit on myself: I've more or less always ran with the idea of "if it's physically achievable and I have the will to do it, then I'll do it". As you might imagine, that ended up putting me in situations that would have me referred to as being crazy. To this day, I still don't see an issue with that, which was why I didn't see her idea as being odd in any sense.
So I'll repeat one of the ideas the show puts forth. If you want something done and it can be achieved physically, then no reason not to.

    • @dooshmasta

Huh, I'll have to check out this anime sometime. It kind of reminds me of my high school and university days. I didn't have a missing mom in Antarctica, though. I put myself through college completely on my own, with no help from parents or student loans. I worked different part time jobs whenever I could; I never went out to eat, the theaters, parties, nothing. I did all my homework on lengthy subway commutes, and slept whenever I found the time. Everyone thought I was insane, and maybe I was. When I got my degree, I didn't owe anyone a cent. It was a brutal, self-imposed lesson in discipline and frugality, but it's paid off immensely. Now I can afford to travel if I want. Maybe I'll make it out to Antarctica someday...

And here it's pretty straight forward and I got a few points and of course I think it's a great motivational video. As someone who have been moving slowly towards his goal this makes me want to move even faster and spend less time on miscellaneous stuff I give excuses to when it's obvious active procrastination (I am still moving though, all be it slowly). I think this is one of your best videos and honestly, I see it rivaling stuff like videos by Gary Vaynerchuk. Keep it up!

For some reason, the video reminds me of my half-asleep-coz-not-enough-sleep ramblings when trying to talk about something...
Introduce the topic, randomly change topic mid-way to talk about something else, then go back to topic again after suddenly remembering it...
    Maybe its just me

    You're trans?
Damn. Shows how much I'm out of the loop and how different identities can really come in different forms.
Good video, I guess. I say guess, because I think I'll need to watch it again to really grasp it properly.
Just keep doing you. Seems to be doing well.

I've always been a guy who starts taking steps towards a long term goal, and at first I always go ultra hardcore on it. Somehow, though, that initial intensity of motivation wears off after some time. I've been attempting to make it last longer, and to some degree it's worked. I've been developing a small game since the start of the year, and I worked on it almost every day for the first couple of months, but not so much in March. I'm gonna try to kick it off again for April. I don't want it to peter out further.

Enjoyable analysis. She succeeds because of freak luck. It was just the actress thing that got her there.

Probably won't be seeing this video for another several hours, but I can't wait to see how you might pull off making me watch this anime where mothers basement recent videos failed
Ok ended up watching it at work... I can say while it might not have drove me to want to watch the anime it was still an enjoyable video.

After comic from mathwiz's "march mathness", i was wondering... You ever gonna do a whole month of daily videos? You could call it Pedantic Mayantics (for may) or maybe... daily videos for a whole month by the pedantic romantic (aka: dvfawmbtpr [duh-va-fa-oom-but-per])

I guess you and I are probably the biggest Digibro fans...lol, but I agree, if you hang around and oursue things within the ecosystem of your dreams, you will get a job.... I happen to be a prime example of that, I always showed up for things I had an interest in and sometimes, showing up is all that matters.... lol that's how I got my chance

    I love Shirase.
For all my high school life I saved one part of my money for lunch and actually got to be pretty near 100 $ sadly I was the only one who had the great idea of saving money, everyone asked me for some and never paid me everything.
Now that I need that money it's basically a bad time. But like Shirase, I'm confident on doing what I want soon.

I love this so much. I’m fascinated not only by your opinions but also your story. i hope you make more of these kinds of videos. but also like why is NOBODY talking about how this was the gayest show of the season i mean come ON look at how these girls interact with each other and tell me they aren’t in a poly relationship

This video's subject is shit imo, but I LOVE when he mentioned 7:00. BECAUSE THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POINT TO BE MADE FOR THIS CHANNEL.
The reason why I hate the show is simply that I can't stand it when someone says "blank" thing is impossible(even though it is obviously fucking possible if college fucktards are doing it)
Also the dialogue couldn't keep me looking at the screen, which I've never had a problem with even in the worst of shows...Also I physically cringe when I see the hair "shine" for this anime. It's bad in a lot of shows, but it's so integrated into the art style here that I can't stand it.
