Paul Simon is such a good songwriter that he can write a song, make it a hit, change it in almost every way possible, and have it still be just as good. So cool.
guyute60 I agree with you: One of the best version of this song and IMO, the best interpretation of this gospel version is in the album Live Rhymin; you can listen to it here: ruclips.net/video/bqcP5sgnReY/видео.html
Major Denis Bloodnok Live Rhymin was the first Paul Simon Album I ever owned! I still cherish it, given to me by my best friend and containing Paul's genius!
+guyute60 THEY LAID IT DOWN ON ALBUM LIKE THAT. AND I ALWAYS HEAR GOOD NEWS WHEN I HEAR THIS SONG. THE ORGANIST IS ONE JESSE DIXON. THE BEST GOSPEL SINGER I EVER HEARD.
I think the album he did with the Jesse Dixon Singers and Uru Bamba was one of the best albums ever. The album version is longer than this one... Great performance,
Oh I agree 1000%. That is one of his best albums ever " Paul Simon in Concert: Live Rhymin' " . Been my standard Simon album since release in '74. Listen to it here: ruclips.net/video/bqcP5sgnReY/видео.html
Grandissimo PAUL SIMON. Grazie x essere entrato nella mia vita. Mi hai guidato e accompagnato per tutta la mia adolescenza e anche ora . Tu sei NEW YORK ....Non avrei mai scelto altri . Mai. C'eri tu. Paul Simon the best american songwriter in the world. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✨✨✨✨✨🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🗽
Thanks so much, this clip is one of my absolute favourites. Great version, thank god Paul Simon took this one back from Art and showed him how it's done.
I consider Bridge Over Troubled Water as one of the greatest songs ever written. Art Garfunkel certainly mastered the vocal on the S&G album. Elvis Presley also did an extremely good job on this song. Today for the first time I heard Paul Simon sing it. It seems Garfunkel got credit for this song for his voice, but it was Paul Simon who conceived and wrote it. It is his creation.
Wow, I love this Version too... Paul is a minefield of talent. I didn't like the female screaming, "I will comfort you," aside from that this too is beautiful.
The female you speak of is the late great gospel singer Ethel Holloway. Her voice adds so much to this song.Jessy Dixon in on the organ and singing backup along with the Jessy Dixon Singers. Song is enhanced by their performance.
I wish the keyboard dude would make that Hammond sing a little more..... needs a leslie too....Those lovely laidies could have been coming on stronger with the gospel sound as well. Still nice though!
+James Pitzel THAT ORGAN DUDE IS THE' GREATEST GOSPEL VOICE EVER. JESSE DIXON. HE DID IT AS LAID ON THE DAY. BUT IN LIVE CONCERTS HE LIFTED THE ROOF WITH THAT SWEET HAMMOND! HE SINCE PASSED. BUT I STILL FIND HIS BEST WORK WITH GAITHER HOMECOMING CONCERTS.
I don't know but the words seem out of sync with the gospel beat. They don't mesh right for me. It seems to be straining to find a groove and it never quite makes it. I prefer the original and the song badly need Garfunkels voice.

I loved to see Jessy Dixon on the keyboard. He was singing on backup. In his younger days. RIP dear Jessy. Love you always.
Paul always saw Bridge as a gospel song. Love this version.

Not one of Paul Simon's better songs.
This is a great version of it though.
Roberta Flack nailed it.
I can't believe there is actually a clip of this! Absolutely wonderful, my favourite version, thankyou for posting this ❤💜
You don't see the organ anymore. That's one instrument that needs to make a comeback.
Jessy Dixon and the Jessy Dixon singers were fabulous.

Its my second favorite album of his. It's an amazing album!
Live Rhymin' is the Gold Standard of live recording

Gosh, Artie's voice is treasure. Miss it
Jessie had a voice like a fine instrument and he knew how to use it. He was also an expert worship leader.
Paul Simon start catching the Holy Ghost at like 5:30, right there on the Dick Cavett show! Hah! Beautiful soothing music.
Chills each and every single time I watch this 😊
Beautiful, the endis absolutely sensational Mr. Paul again heartfeit singing. Thank you.🎤❣️
Glorious talent, I sure miss those days
This is exactly the version of Live Rhymin concert album.
Wonderful!
god this is beautiful...., first time seeing it...., nice
Wish Paul would sit down and let Jessy take that mike, and ease my mind
Paul taking it to Church! 😇😎😎😇
Thank you, I love that version from the creator of "Bridge" himself very much.
PS was the worst thing in that performance
Best version of this song ever

Thanks so much, this clip is one of my absolute favourites. Great version, thank god Paul Simon took this one back from Art and showed him how it's done.
Your kidding right. I was looking ridiculous comments and I have across your.
Fatboyslin01 Absolutely bang on comment.
You have to be kidding. That's Arties song and Paul was sorry because Artie made it sail to the heavens.
Absolutely spot on... Art sang it nicely but Paul just owns it every time he sings it. This was magic 💜
quite different version of this song, but it also has a moving touch.

Can't offend the religious on national tv.
Jessy Dixon is the King of Gospel. I have. Followed him for many many years and i love him. RIP DEAR JESSY.
- wow...
you rock you
@xterra43 thats a joke right.. to compare simons voice to dylans is fucking stupid. this man can sing amazing.
aretha-jessy dixon
Suwii
@xterra43 thats a joke write.. to compare simons voice to dylans is fucking stupid. this man can sing amazing.
Simon is a genius. A genius who showed how easy it is to destroy a classic. Sorry Paul but your original vision of writing it for Art was correct.
Stick to playing the guitar. Let Jessy Dixon sing this once. All the other times it belongs to ART GARFUNKEL.
OMG
What a poor ending. I believe I believe.
Cut your hair, Paul.

PS was the worst thing about this performance.
The ending was terrible. Come on Paul. Play the guitar.
