      Did you look at the list complaints on BBB by all the people stating they've been waiting 1 to 2 years to receive their order, and many are still waiting beyond 2 years to receive it. They can't ship locally on time, but they can ship on time to DBK in Europe 😂.
      Seems like the only people surviveknives ships to in a timely fashion are knife reviewers. I doubt surviveknives will survive too long because they can't be sustained by knife reviewers alone. The people are slowly catching on to their B.S.

    From what I understand some of the blanks were out of spec. They was an issue with the decarburization and the surface looked not great. Guy being Guy wouldn't let the knives be used in the standard GSO 5.1, but he used them in a new product. The Cerakote covers the surface issues. ruclips.net/video/O6yGtnM2sQU/видео.html

    I got one from the same run. Every aspect is perfect. Was supposed to take two weeks to arrive. It took six weeks, but I already knew not to take the optimistic estimate too seriously, so I didn't stress about it. Guy was posting progress videos, so I was satisfied that they were making their best effort to get things done. And I figure a few extra weeks is a small price to pay for a perfect product that will still perform beautifully when my great grandchildren use it to reclaim the earth from the machine AI overlords.

  • @ShoahBiz
    @ShoahBiz Год назад +4

    It’s not a custom knife. They’re Waterjet cut, Blanchard ground, and heat treated out of house at Peters. Then they have a little more machine finish done and someone bolts handles on (no glue and no grinding/profiling by hand,) then the blades maybe get buffed by hand on a wheel. They’re not customizable but come in set templates. How do you consider this custom?
    Peters heat treat is not second to none. They’re a large scale operation and they use a torch to straighten blanks. They’re good for a big operation but to say they’re second to none is completely untrue.
    I have an actual hand ground custom that’s fit and finish matches survives machinery production but with a blade grind more optimized to actually cut and slice. I also didn’t have to wait for some insane amount of time and keep being lied to about the delivery date.

      There are actual custom made in America knives for the same price that you can buy from someone who will gladly communicate with you, unlike survive. You can modify someone’s custom design anyway you want if you feel so inclined, or you can give them a template you made entirely yourself. Or just buy one of the many great custom makers models out there. You won’t have to wait as long for a hand made custom as you will for a survive knife made my machines and liars.
      Guy has been recycling the same excuses for literally a decade. Guy has constantly changed steels or changed models for people who have orders long since placed but unfulfilled. Many people purchased a survive knives blade because it was supposed to be delta 3v, then they stopped using that and said too bad if you paid for delta 3v you won’t get it. We’re taking about paying for a knife 3-5 years ago under the impression you’ll get a delta 3v knife in a timely manner, since that what he always claims. Then, years down the road, you still don’t have your prepaid knife …and you don’t know when or if you will ever get it. If you do get it, it won’t even be for what you paid for.
      Oh ya that reminds me..most custom makers won’t charge you until the knife is complete and ready to ship. Hell you can even buy ones that are literally in stock and they will ship out immediately. Even when survive every once in a while lists something as “available now,” it can still take months to get rofl.
      Guy is a clown and I promise you there are better people to give your money to. I’ll list a few custom makers I know of, but there are plenty more to be found on Instagram/Facebook or bladeforums or bushcraftusa. Carothers performance knives, Cohutta knives, JD custom, AA Forge, asventuresworn, gossman, Big Chris Custom Knives, Fiddleback Forge, Seedy Lot, PLKnives, ADKnives, steadfast handcrafted knives, plainsmen knives, hasse knives, malanika knives, Sargent edged tools, papa bear knives, Paul b custom and so many more. Not all of these will be available immediately but some will be and the ones you have to wait for, won’t have as long a wait as survive does. At least they’ll give you a real timeframe as well instead of continuously lying to you

      @@ShoahBiz what company do you recommend for heat treat?

    • @ShoahBiz
      @ShoahBiz Год назад +1

      @@christopherlarson7579 custom makers. Do you want an absolute tank of a knife, which I may assume based on you mentioning the dbk video? Carothers performance knives are better. You won’t see survive even entering chopper competitions, let alone winning any. Nathan Carothers created the delta 3v heat treat protocol and is an actual machinist. There are other good super heavy duty blade makers out there as well like Gossman Knives and Busse Knives.
      There are also guys like JTKnives over at bladeforums that do heat treating and seem respected. Then there are plenty of custom makers who heat treat in house in a more small scale operation that can have more control over and attention to detail than peters. You can get magnacut higher hardness from a custom maker than you can from peters if that is what you were going for. You can also get knives with better edge geometry designed to actually cut, carve and slice well. Thinly ground convex grinds are awesome. Plus the handles some of these guys are putting out blow survive out of the water when it comes to ergonomics.
      You might as well go custom when you’re paying $300 already and survive has worse lead times then almost anyone for a knife that’s not even hand made. Plus why support Guy who has been making and recycling excuses for the past decade? There are still outstanding orders from like 8+ years ago, yet here he is continually switching steels, making excuses and designing new models while still taking on more than he can chew. All this, despite all the bullshit he pulls about how they’re gonna be shipping in 90 days. How rich to say given the amount of backlog. I’ve heard that 90 day line and turning it around speech repeatedly since I’ve followed them since Jan 2021. He has to keep pre orders rolling or the bills don’t get paid I guess. Real great business practice..
      You only got that knife because you opted for a factory seconds. That blank was likely paid for by someone else years ago. Then Guy sat on it for literally years, finally got around to sending it to heat treat where it apparently had issues on peters part. Then he decided to take the decarbed aka improperly heat treated and carbon leached blanks, and focus all his time and effort on those so he wouldn’t be out of the money for the metal itself. He already admitted Peter didn’t charge him for that heat treat so his only lose is the raw material itself. Why go full steam ahead on those decarbed ugly Betty’s (a term they used to call factory seconds,) when they still have outstanding orders for 5.1’s, 10s and 12’a that are years and years old?

    • @ShoahBiz
      @ShoahBiz Год назад +1

      @@christopherlarson7579 peters isn’t bad they do good work and maybe you could call them second to none for operations of that scale. They’re not better than some custom small batch makers though which is all I was nit picking. I’m mainly just frustrated with survive and letting some of that out here so my bad. No one’s ever said survive doesn’t have good fit and finish that’s not why they’ve lost so many customers. I just wish they would stop lying and get more realistic with timeframes. Also he seriously needs to consider changing his business practices if he’s never gonna actually clear that backlog and start spitting things out in thay 90 days claimed timeframe. Maybe he should do mostly small batches and sell what’s available on hand and keep pre orders to a minimum. Enjoy the 5.1 but I would consider thinking of only ordering any future survive products second hand unless Guy actually turns it around over there and makes amends. That’s a tall order. At the very least, I’d say only order directly from them if it’s listed under available now and use a credit card or PayPal because good luck getting a timely refund direct from survive

If you are not willing to wait then don’t order and buy in the secondary market for 50% more. In a world of Amazon it is hard to wait but well worth it. All of mine were perfect.
