This is my aunt and I grew up hearing her sing in my kitchen with my dad playing guitar and my mom singing backup lol Wish she had recorded her song 'Jesse' though. That's the one I always miss the most.
My absolutely favourite from the 80s - I never understood why Miss Sherry didn't capture a more widely rapturous public.Tough, erotic, insolent but elegant, and many more adjectives. Good to see a fan base out there for such a stunning singer.
The same reason Luba and Carole Pope and so many other male and female artists were bypassed in the 80's who were making equal or better quality music. They are Canadian. British and American everybody else has to be beyond exceptional like Rush.
@@mikehemens9359 You're right about that. No one ever wanted to admit it. I've nothing against supporting Canadian artists but for a nation to legislate taste in music? It's absurd. I'd rather they support them in any other way. If The Sharks ( Sherry Kean's great band) had played Letterman or SNL they would have been huge.
"Hey c'mon babe, come off it..." LOL that and the super high "aaaa - aaaaa" at the end... totally loved this song in the '80's! You know, Canada was a helluva place to be in the mid-eighty's if you liked gangly new-wave ... Spoons, Rough Trade, Images in Vogue, Men Without Hats, Eight Seconds, Strange Advance, this little gem ... *sigh* good times. :)
Yes indeed! I have always maintained that Australia, Canada & New Zealand all punched well above their weight when it came to creating great pop/rock/alt-rock in the 70s, 80s, and 90s...especially in the 80s.
I saw Sherry Kean in Ottawa... before UB40 came on, back in the day. Someone flicked a lit cigarette at her white blouse but she carried on with class... she had an amazingly strong and unique voice. I enjoyed her performance a lot.
Oshawa Ontario here. This song brings back memories when i was a kid in the 80's ( well a child really). I found myself singing it the other day and here it is.
used to follow this gal around the clubs in the 80's, very entertaining and great dancing tunes back then... it was our pleasure to see Sherry perform in TO.
This was a pretty good act I caught just by luck stopping in at the King Edward Hotel in '83 for a beer. Needless to say, I stuck around for another set. (And a couple more beers!). Thier recordings are all worth having, in my opinion, and I have had one of thier albums a couple of times. And yes, this girl could sure sing, I sat at the table right down in front and everything sounded pretty good to me. Many years ago now, but I remember how I appreciated them and thier music.
I think Sherry Kean's first band was the Sharks and they were the opening band for the B-52's first show in Toronto at the Danforth Music Hall. Stellar show.
It was The Sharks. Can't post a pic of the button here. I recorded the demos at RCA Studio B. David Baxter, Cleave Anderson and Bazil Donovan. Cleave and Bazil went on to join Blue Rodeo and Bazil's still there.
Heard this today on the radio in, of all places, a Subway sandwich shop in scarboro today. Great song havent heard in ages. I remember seeing Sherry Kean when she was lead singer of the Sharks and they played the Edge. This was feb '80. They did this song at the time and I was shocked when this version came out because it seemed so slickly produced and didnt convey that punk/new wave edge of the Sharks. Still LOVE this recording. That show was incredible as the little club was cheek to jowl with people dancing from the first note to last. It was a first for me seeing such a scene. I saw the Sharks over the next couple of year, at a club called the Upper Lip and upstairs at the ElMo as well as the Edge again.
By the time you said you loved me I had turned my back I spent a long time waiting What kind of love is that So I'm going to find a new one And I hear those things you do What's this bitter feeling When I see that girl with you I want, I want, I want, and I want, and I want and I want you back And I want you back! I want you back... Do you really find it thrilling Holding someone new Have you got your freedom Or just another view?" Hey come on babe, come off it We've both been there before Second class emotion Is not what you're lookin' for I want, I want, I want, and I want, and I want you back I want you back! I want you back... and I want you back I Want you back I want you back I see you from a distance You're pulling out her chair In my imagination She's pulling out your hair Hey come on babe, come off it We've both been there before Second class emotion Is not what you're lookin' for I want, I want, I want, and I want, and I want and I want you back I want you back! Finally I just found it, been looking a long time, when the radio played it I concentrated to hear the DJ announce who did it and they never announced the song. Untill about 6 mos ago they did and I thought they said Sherry Keys
Thank you very much for putting this on. Been looking for it a LONG time! By chance do you have the Canadian mid 80s country song "Dressed to Kill" by Gilles Goddard? Anyway keep put the GREAT work & have a GREAT Weekend!
Jay Tompkins I am sure I have the LP You are thinking of (buried in storage at this time). (the 12" E.P. in excellent playing cond). Also have a Radio Station promo. I at some point will put them up, & we all can enjoy it once more. (I wish Sherry would do another Album someday).I had to search like it was for Gold, to track down what little I have; 3 of Sherry's 7 one of Her Brothers.
LOVE this song. CFCO in Chatham, Ontario, played this a number of years ago during their "Classic Gold" oldies days. Anyone know if this record ever got a U.S. release?
Funny how you imagine what a singer looks like from their voice...I always heard, in my ears, a black woman singing this...so soulful...mind you, I thot "Men at Work" were black, at first, back in the day...
What a crock, 20 IDF soldiers what... What the Times of India seems to fail at, is other peoples History. Like they needed you to remember it for them, and try to rewrite it.
Kean left the music industry and is currently a tour guide at the McCulloch Heritage Centre in Pictou, Nova Scotia.
Shame she never took off,she really had the goods.✌️
I was just thinking of this song, out of the blue, it's amazing how songs come back to you, decades later, but it's a great one, she has a great voice
This is my aunt and I grew up hearing her sing in my kitchen with my dad playing guitar and my mom singing backup lol Wish she had recorded her song 'Jesse' though. That's the one I always miss the most.
Tell your aunt she is fabulous and I have her two albums and EP and play them all the time. That voice SIZZLES!
Your aunt lived in Port Hope didn't she?
Always loved her voice, great depth and tone.
How is she doing these days?
She needs to have her own channel with more music on it as well. She will make a little money and we will be happy.

@@miket851 I would add that it was the Canadian Content laws that created an unattractive atmosphere and stigma to Canadian music internationally.

This song deserves more play by local classic rock stations in the Atlantic region.
Love it!!! Brings me back to being 15 again!
Then play her song "Get Off The Radio" when she was rhe vocalist for The Sharks...my favorite. She had such a wonderful voice!!

This song was so catchy, just the best “sad” type song.

What great memory this song evokes-back to my youth.A sad but danceable lament of a lost love.✌️
What a terrific song and a terrific singer...This tune is dynamite, full of rhythm and good vibrations and you can actually DANCE to it :-)) > DON

"Get Off The Radio" was my favorite of her vocals with The Sharks!
Almost thirty years this tune was released, -it still plays well! Ah, the memories! :D
What great song it goes back in 1984. This is when I purchased my first car a VW rabbit 🐰.
Always just loved this song. Used to sing it to my kids when they were little as walked around the house holding them in my arms.
Had this on cassette back in the day;))
Love this one! Haven’t heard it in a long while
Try her song with The Sharks "Get Off The Radio" my favorite of her unique vocals!

It brings my childhood memories of 1990

Cool this song is very good
By the time you said you loved me
I had turned my back
I spent a long time waiting
What kind of love is that
So I'm going to find a new one
And I hear those things you do
What's this bitter feeling
When I see that girl with you
I want, I want, I want, and I want, and I want and I want you back
And I want you back! I want you back...
Do you really find it thrilling
Holding someone new
Have you got your freedom
Or just another view?"
Hey come on babe, come off it
We've both been there before
Second class emotion
Is not what you're lookin' for
I want, I want, I want, and I want, and I want you back
I want you back! I want you back... and I want you back
I Want you back
I want you back
I see you from a distance
You're pulling out her chair
In my imagination
She's pulling out your hair
Hey come on babe, come off it
We've both been there before
Second class emotion
Is not what you're lookin' for
I want, I want, I want, and I want, and I want and I want you back
I want you back!
I want you back... (Oh baby)
I want you back
I want you back (come back to me)
I want you back (Oh Baby)
I want you back
I want you back
I want you back (Oh Baby)
And I want you back
I want you back
I want you back
And I want you back
I want you back
found this on vinyl in winnipeg for a dollar last year
You don't say? Found my copy @ Value Village.
Clasico 80s
Here's the thing...I do want you back
Best Canadian 80s song........theme song of my puberty

Thanks
For anyone interested, you can now download this song from iTunes. Must be a recent addition, as the metadata shows a copyright of 2018 (this year).
Love it!
love it....yeah
Another 80's hit!
Amazing !!!
Love this
I wish u were on ITunes Baby Girl.
Finally, the songs from the "People Talk" album are now available on iTunes. Must have been a long six years for you.
Still have my album!
Omg i live
Your upload sounds much better than the official iTunes version. Somebody remixed the guitars out of the 2018 release - can barely hear them.
Groove on.
