    I've had this machine for five years and it is a workhorse. Solid, heavy, minimal computerised functions but excellent for quilting and general sewing. You do have to buy extra feet if you want things like the free motion foot or a walking foot but it's worth it. The throat space and power make this an excellent choice for quilters.

    I have had a GREAT deal of trouble threading this machine, schematic or not. I am so grateful for this video. I have it my saved quilting file. My only critique is your needle threading instructions. For example, the Janome instructions recommend the needle in the down position. That aside, this video saved my quilting life. I could not for the figure out that schematic. Thank you!

    what a lovely machine. It looks very similar to my brother pq 1500. I just love a semi industrial machine. It's perfect for quilting, making jeans and bags. I save my little fancy machine for button holes and decorative stitching etc... Just a note about knits that I'm sure you already know. I have this machine on my Grace quilting frame. I often have thread break. I did buy the machine second hand so maybe I should get some new bobbbins and bobbin case as you never know if they have been dropped. Also I would like to know what is the best thread. I live in Australia and it is difficult to get really good thread.

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  4 года назад +4

      Try lowering the height of the foot down to press a bit more against the surface of the quilt. That often helps stop thread breaks. And change thread too if you are using 100% cotton. That is often too weak to handle the high speeds and movement on a frame.

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  Год назад

      You should have the same tension when on the frame as when piecing. Make sure the foot is in the down position - this is easier to miss than you think. Also make sure to lower the height of the darning foot so it just skims the surface of the quilt. Go slow and make slow, steady movements, but run the machine at a fast-ish pace.

    Hi Leah, I have a 1600P, the older model, and just purchased the QCT5 beginnings. I have everything hooked up on my Q zone hoop frame but my machine won't sew for some reason. It's like the foot cord is not connected correctly, but there is nothing loose so competely perplexed. You have done some videos for QCT5 but not with the Janome. The instructions from Grace Frame Co. are a bit confusing. Can you do a video on install of QCT5 with Janome? Thanks, Patty Dahlheimer

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  4 года назад +1

      I'm planning on doing exactly this Patty! From the sound of it, it doesn't sound like QCT is functioning with your Janome. I would check your cords and make sure you selected the correct cable to connect to your 1600. As crazy as it sounds, even if the end of the cord looks right, the power it can pull can be different so double and triple check to make sure.

    I know I asked this before but I can’t seem to find my old question. I asked if you knew of a tip stitch needle for this machine and you said it could take all needles. What does the HL x 5 stand for then? When I got the machine I was told it was a special type of needle.

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  4 года назад

      Great question! An HL x 5 is an industrial needle with a flat back. However, after having trouble locating these (they are currently backordered from the manufacturers themselves), I learned from Janome that you can use any flat back home sewing machine needle. BUT if you have issues with skipped stitches or broken thread or needles, you'll want to give these a try as they are built for the higher speeds this machine can go.

    • @kambyr
      @kambyr 4 года назад

      Leah Day awesome, thanks! I’ve always used these type as I thought they were necessary. Guess it’s good I horde sewing supplies if they are back ordered now. I love using my 18’s with this machine. Such a beautiful stitch.

    What is the difference between the machine you have and the Janome HD9?

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  3 года назад

      I just ran a comparison between the HD9 and 1600 on Janome's website and honestly - there is no noticeable difference that I can pinpoint. I know the HD9 is restricted for in-person sales only - meaning it can't be listed online or sold on websites with the price listed. It must be purchased in stores. This means the price is often higher and sold closer to the $2299 MSRP - $1000 more than the 1600.

      @@LeahDay That's kind of what I thought!! How can they charge nearly double for the same machine? The HD9 sports a different routing for heavy and light threads -- that's the only difference I can see -- certainly NOT worth 2x the price!!!

    • @LeahDay

      Nope, there isn't a feed dog drop for this machine. Instead the darning feet usually include a thicker needle plate cover which stops the feed dogs from coming in contact with your quilt. On the HD9, that is basically an upgraded version of the 1600, with bigger bobbin capacity.
