    Hi Leah! Thanks so much for sharing fantastic tips on Janome sewing machine and how Janome professional line does free motion quilting! Amazing tips!
    TBH, I was just told today by a salesman of a sewing machine that I should not pick BabyLock or Janome high-end ones if I want free motion as I cannot put a feeding foot down like regular machines, though he gave me a pretty reasonable quote on the second highest end machine Janome had available. But after watching your video, I decided to look into the Janome or BabyLock (Janome makes their industrial straight only stitch, I know this as I live in Japan and these are Japanese companies! :D )
    I am so inspired by your nice friendly and pleasant teaching style and your beautiful quilts you are always making! I will be watching more of your videos and subscribed!! 😊

It was a Janome convertible foot so I thought it would be fine but I did not think about how differently the machines are made! Well, more practice with the machine while I wait for the foot! This video has been so helpful to me. I have a 1600p and the feet that you described and the slider sheet but could never get my machine to free motion quilt. The problem was that my thread would keep breaking constantly. I saw you suggested isacord thread and figured I would give it a try. What a difference. No breakage. It amazes me what a difference thread choice makes. I love my 1600p for piecing. It is a workhorse. But now I am thrilled that I can also do my free motion quilting on this baby. Thank you for this video and all your tips and tricks.

    I’ve watched lots of your videos with your long arm Q’nique machines......you helped me decide on my purchase of the Q’nique 15R last fall. (I’m embarrassed to admit, I’ve not even threaded it yet!) 😬. Last week, (after rewatching your set up videos) I was able to get the leader cloths attached to the Qzone frame!
    I’ve ordered three types of thread and hope to practice very soon on a quilt sandwich!
    Ugh! Wish me luck!! 😝

    I have a Janome P1600 and really like it. I watched this video on free motion quilting that you did on this machine. I enjoyed it but still having problems. You didn't mention what the foot pressure indicator should be set at. I set it at 0. Also what is the setting you need for the thread tension dial. I set mine at 6 and after a short time the thread wouldn't feed because it was so tight. Please help. Thank you for all your helpful hints and videos.

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  2 года назад

      You'll just have to poke the thread through the closed toe, then pull up threads exactly as I've showed in this video. Not really a different method, just a bit more annoying because of the closed base.

    • @LeahDay

      My bet is the issue is foot height - if the foot is skimming too high over the quilt surface the thread will skip. Give that a try and see if it helps!

    • @LeahDay
      @LeahDay  3 года назад

      Is your thread breaking when free motion quilting only? If so, try lowering the height of your foot. It sounds like the base is too high over your quilt and allowing too much bounce and friction around the needle. If you don't have it yet, the Convertible Darning Foot is awesome and allows you to get the foot height perfect! leahday.com/products/convertible-darning-foot-kit

    • @LeahDay

      The thicker plate is designed for free motion quilting on the 1600. Because the feed dogs don't drop, they designed a needle plate that was thick enough to conceal the feed dogs.
      Or you could use the regular plate that is thinner and just set your stitch length to 0. I find that works great for me!
