Thank you for the video. Even experienced sewers make threading mistakes once in a while. It’s good to see threading mistakes corrected. I have always been told to wind the bobbin at half speed when using polyester thread because polyester thread stretches. Maybe that is the reason Janome has a slower bobbin speed.
I have a different model Janome, and it doesn't do the lockstitch when you stop with the same stitch pattern. You wouldn't want it to do that if you are stopping to pivot or in the middle of a seam. There is a button over the start stop button that does it with one touch. It also has the same non-functional storage box. As far as I'm concerned, that's why cookies come in tins.
I recently bought a Brother PS700. Within a few weeks, I have used the wonderful manual to figure a great deal out. I quilt, so yes I use the drop feed dogs function a lot. Have already cleaned the bobbin area several times. Have a Singer Heavy Duty which I nearly wore out in just a few years. I have an older Singer Merritt too. I like all my machines for various reasons. Thank you for your videos!
hi i have several machines too. I have two Kenmores that are about 52-56 years old and work well. I just bought my 3rd brother and I love it. it is an XR3340 and it is the best first time electronic machine ever. I am a fan of brother and I think that is because that was the first brand I went with. I also have a Singer 221 black which I love. go quilting..beginner quilter here.
@@leorajs I have already completed a small quilt, another quilt was almost complete but I lost it in a fire, and I have another one right now waiting for me to put on a binding. It is fun. I also sew doll clothes and will be transforming some old clothes I have into new ones.
Thanks! I had considered buying this machine for a small travel machine. As for the feed dogs...many people drop them to free motion quilt on their regular machines, as I used to do before getting a longarm, and others will drop them to do thread painting working or in hoop work.
Hi lots of people free motion quit, and free motion embroidery . My machine is used mostly for patchwork and free motion quilting. I have Janome 9450, which has replaced Brother Innovis 1100. I have to say the Janome is an amazing machine, I also have singer 201, which I drop feed dogs on too. Hope that helps.
brother gave me a manual for my machine and it is a sewing and quilting machine. it has feed dog drops and I have several projects in the works that I will be using the feed dog drop for.
First off thank you a ton for making these videos! I haven't been sewing that long, my husband taught me how to sew. Yes my husband taught me. I use mine to make small quilts right now but will be making bigger ones pretty soon. I have a Brother ce1100prw. The one my husband taught me on, is his from High school, I'm not sure what brand it is. Anyway, he got me the brother prw as a gift. Until recently I had only used it once maybe twice when I got it. Just got to be able to use it again about a few weeks ago. I plan on dropping the feed dogs to slow motion quilt. My brother has a storage like this one in the video but it came with a small pouch. I just use a pencil box for my stuff instead of the storage. I don't like the clumsiness of the storage myself. I've had a few "battles" with mine in the last couple of days. I have looked at other sewing machines for when this one goes. BTW, love your "commercial" for your seam ripper, cracked me up!
I own a Singer 201-2, 500a, Kenmore 158-1941, 158-1802, and 158-1430, all except the 500a can drop the feed dogs. The 500a raises the needle plate. I rarely use it. All the automatic features and electronics built in are going to fail within a decade. For my money, you can't beat a Kenmore free arm machine built before the late 70s. All metal, built like tanks, smooth, POWERFUL, durable and strong piercing power. My 158-1941 is 44 years old and does just about anything I ask of it. Anyone serious about sewing should consider buying vintage. I hope you sell them in your shop. Stay well 🙏
Hi! You shouldn’t see bobbin thread on a zigzag stitch. Need to reduce spool tension. Only a little bit of spool thread should be seen on the bottom side of fabric. 😊
So glad I found you, I love your videos and have learned so much from them. When I saw a scripture come across the screen, I knew I was in the right place. God will bless your faithfulness. I appreciate your entrepreneurial spirit, and how much you've improved and developed your business in a short time!
Hello “thank you”. for showing how to fix feet that wasn’t working. With what you show us I got mine working, you explained it there was no guessing as what to do, I have a S2402 dressmaker and a S-02 Simplicity L
I have this machine. It was my “I think I want to quilt” machine. I drop the feed dogs for FMQ. I’ve moved on to a Juki 2010 and a DX 4000. I still use the Janome.
You are supposed to drop them to use your free motion quilting foot. I’ve used it a few times but prefer quilting with my walking foot. FMQ makes more sense to me on a long arm machine with a frame, not moving the fabric. I just mentally 🤯
I have an idea for a video....I have a 20 year old sewing machine and was wondering what parts are good to have on hand if a repair is ever needed. With manufacturers only making spare parts for a short length of time (nowadays). What do you recommend a DIY repair person keep on hand?
While kangaroos are hopping past my window here in Gungahlin Australia I am taking in your great knowledge and experience coupled with some godly sustenance
I bought two of that model brand new and both went back. They are good machines but I liked some important features Brother machines offered a lot more. Plus I didn't like the stitch chart and they have NO vertical spool pin. There are only three buttons to control the important functions stitch selection and stitch length and width. That's a bit cheap. The machine does not know you are done stitching unless you hit the reverse button. It will not lock the stitches every time the motor stops.
I haven’t ever done projects that require dropping the feed dogs so don’t use that feature. I have a “pink sorbet” Janome that I like very much, except for that storage compartment. Wish it had that cute pin cushion! Congrats on the new studio!
I'm afraid in my case you're wrong. I do drop feed dogs, (1) free motion - don't do much of that, but some (2) sewing buttons it's helpful. thanks for video
My sewing machine has a tool box tlki that, and it is empty I was tired of being extra carefull not to loose anything every time I needed to change the bobbin.
Best infomercial ever. 🤣🤣🤣 I’m trying decide on this machine or one of the basic Babylock or bernette’s. It’s amazing the amount of features you get for the price compared to the others. Thank you for your video. And for your infomercial.
Viewing a few minutes in I felt that he was very rough in handling the items that were in the box; then I noticed that he probably didn't know how to sew with this machine (if he reads the instructions he will be surprised how good this machine function is). He also fiddled back n forward with the tension dial, maybe not using proper needle for that fabric (not cotton), etc. But then, as the titled shows, he did make big mistakes here and he was very honest about it! I enjoy your videos, by the way.
THANK YOU!! I thought it was crazy that seem rippers we dull. People keep saying that they were so sharp. The point was sharp but the rest of it was dull. Thanks for giving me back my sanity. 😂
Hello, my daughter just started a beginners sewing course. And she needs a sewing machine. The two that her teacher recommended are this one and Brother CS7000X. Do you have a preference between those two?
Could you possibly make a video on how to replace the check spring within a singer’s top tension assembly? I’ve been scouring the internet for a day without much any success. I just need to know where it’s situated and the steps necessary for attachment. Edit: specificity i own a cheap 2277 but your heavy duty model looks similar enough to where i could use it as a reference.
Why do the new computerized sewing machines have large heads that hover over the throat plate and the bed of the machine. I find it very hard to see the seam allowance when sewing the garment.
Off topic question: New Home/ Janome 447. Vintage. I am having trouble placing the needle bar in the center position. Straight Stitch is off to the left side. How big of a hammer do I need?
I wouldn't be happy with that stitch even after you snipped off the tail on the bobbin. I'm not a fan of the drop in bobbin type of machines. The bobbin tension is not good or easily adjustable if at all and it's all plastic and breakable (planned obsolescence)
Boy do I feel not so smart! I didn't even realize that small plastic tampon looking thing in the package was thread cutters till now. I was wondering before what the "H" it actually was supposed to do or fit into?
Hi, I'm want to buy a Janome sewing machine and I'm considering these references , What do you think that is better, Janome JW8100, Janome 3160 qdc or Janome 2160 DC? thank you!!
Yeah I think that accessory box is weird too... and how everything busts out when u take it off... but I'm still wondering if I should get this one or the hd1000... I've been on the fence for quite a while now
I just watched your video on this machine. When removing what would have been a normal accessory box on a Brother machine I got a couple of Christmas' ago. I was surprised to see it was not an accessory box at all. Sigh! I guess it's just the norm of things these days. So many corners are cut.
I have found 99% of the time it is user error with my Janome and just as with computers turn off your computer turn it back on when you have a problem…I have found re-thread my bobbin etc. and everything runs great😂
Your videos inspired me. I bought two olds: Minerva 72129 and Texima Altin overlock for about 130 USD. I drop feed dogs when doing free motion quilting. Yes, the container on front to hold extras is not the best. I just use a small box to store them.
That computerized machine looks great and that company has plenty of competition from others in the same category.
Love the pincushion idea.

it's usually my fault when things don't work too. and it is usually the machines fault when it does work..

We quilters lower the feed dogs all the time.
I lower the feed dogs when sewing on a button.
It seems really loud or is that just the volume.
Yeah would like to see the tear down…I think most ladies leave the table…and You gotta know slow bobbin winding is better…
Winding a bobbin should be a slower speed to ensure a smooth fill.
What is the width capacity please
Your tension was way too tight at first ha! 😂 I use 4 most often on my brother but idk about this brand.
Check the needle and see if it's up for enough.
I've never wanted a seam ripper so badly lol 🤣 ps. I've just ordered the pin cushion too.

I drop my feed dogs for quilting, but I hardly ever quilt anymore, I mostly do cosplay and historical costuming, no need to drop feed dogs for that.
HAY YOUNG MAN You should never pull the thread out the way You did..

Yes I drop my feed dogs for machine darning and embroidery but on my singer 201k and bernina 807 not on these plastic fantastic, slow stitching, flimsy basic machines. Wouldn’t waste my money on a plastic machine like this 😬
