- Hello Shiny Crafty People! Today I'm finally giving you a tour of the newest machine in my arsenal: the Janome 1600P semi-industrial straight stitch sewing machine!
In my early videos, I used a Singer S16, which I still have, but we also have several of the Janome 1600P machines in our workshop. These machines could be clones, as they have the same features and setup. In fact, I'm pretty sure that they were made in the same factory and the Singer was simply rebranded from the other machine.
HERE'S A LINK TO THE MACHINE I'M USING: amzn.to/3aL5lq9
The Janome 1600P is an evolution from the Janome 1600P-DB which uses a special DBX needle. Luckily, the 1600P uses a standard needle, which is much easier to locate and buy.
The machine features:
- Straight Stitch
- Automatic Thread Cutter
- Bobbin Winding WHILE sewing!
- Needle Up / Needle Down Function
- Wider Throat
- Removable Thread Guide
- Knee Lift
- And more!!

Thanks for joining me for this video. Until next time, stay crafty!! Наука
Wow 🤩 GREAT Machine! GREAT DEMO Wow wowiwowwow😮
I inherited a 1954 New Home home sewing machine that is a solid machine. I am the 4th owner of it. I wouldn't be surprised if that thing will sew sheet metal. ;)
Anyways, after doing some research about my machine I found out it is made by Janome and badged "New Home". It's a straight stitch which for me is the stitch I mainly use. It's a real champ. The only thing after many miles of fabric and thread after all these years, I've had to replace the motor and foot pedal.
I actually have the Viking Mega Quilter which is the EXACT same machine. I absolutely love it, and there is nothing it can not sew through.😍
Hi Tim. Just wanted to tell you know much I enjoy your videos. They have catapulted me back into being creative and sewing especially in my “old age”. Not do shiny but crafty. Thanks, Lois
I loved your review.
I loved your manner of presentation too !!!
I have a mechanical machine similar to the Janome and it is my go-to machine over my fancier computer machines. Sturdy & dependable and gives me a 1/4” seam allowance better than any other. I wish you many years of happy stitching on your new baby! 😍
Enjoyed your demo of Janome 1600. your telling that this Janome machine efficient and easy to use and looks fantastic. Im glad it is made with metal and the bobbin is made of metal, too. Its great to see the automatic button, too. Great machine!
I have a Janome SW 2018e; I've had it for 35+ yrs. I've recently started using it on a more consistent basis (COVID) & it's starting to show its age. Since I mainly sew bag & totes with the occasional quilt I don't need all the "fancy" stitches. I was considering the Janome HD3000. But was recently tuned into the 1600 series. I really enjoy your video because unlike other videos you show a close-up of the actual threading. You've made it a "little" less intimidating than others I've seen. Thank you and happy sewing.
Thanks! Just be aware the 1600 is usually a strictly straight stitch machine. If you need other stitches, steer toward a different model.
I recently got it's baby sister home version lol. Janome 750. 1 hand threader! Does all the other great stuff too.. Love it!
I have the Janome memory craft 6700p! My third sewing machine and best investment!!! I also have a baby lock soprano. Love that machine too but the Janome is my favorite!
I have the same machine and I love it, I use mine for sewing ladies fashions mostly
Cool machine!
Congratulations!
I have the janome HD9 and I love it ... I think I'm now addicted to janome machines
The Singer S16 is the same machine as the Janome 1600P, the Singer version no longer being made. It was part of a trio of "Singer Studio" machines made for Singer by Janome: the S16, the S10 (embroidery machine -- same as the Janome 200e but with Singer's built-in designs and memory stick with hundreds of designs), and the S18 (full-featured zig-zag machine, same as the 6500P but with a few more stitches). There are Elna, Pfaff, Husqvarna, and Necchi versions of the 1600P also. (Janome owns the Elna and Necchi brand names.)
The Janome 1600P comes in three different versions. I have the standard 1600P and the DBX.
I’ve got the Elnita EF1. Which is exactly the same machine except for the paint job. Also made by Janome. It’s great for making handbags. I haven’t been able to jam it up even sewing through multiple layers of vinyl, interfacing and leather. The knee lift and the thread cutter are great too.
Will your machine take heavier threads like a 28 weight?
Wow thats very nice
Thank you
Thanks!
Do you have a video demonstrating how your plywood tables were made to set your machines into?
I don’t, but that would be a good one. I didn’t actually make them, but had one of my awesome workers do them. She’s a great seamstress and an equally-talented woodworker.
@@timothytotten9409 could you show me pics underneath? How the machine is set?
Does it drop the feed dogs? For free motion Quilting
I am so jealous. I love your sewing stations. I would love to see some of the details if you have time. CyndiMeyer
Hi there! I have the 1600p and love it! Is there a topstitching foot compatible for it that is larger than a 1/4”?
I'm not sure. I typically just use the feet that come with it.
Hello! what year is your janome 1600?
I've got a gentle me sewing machine 3 years ago and I still do not know how to thread it so I have not used it I need to take it to the store where I bought it so they can show me how to thread it and run it I just don't get it thank you
Is this Janome 1600P-QC a better choice than the Juki TL-2010Q?
I’ve never used the Juki so I can’t say.
❤❤❤I have a Janome Memorycraft❤
Hi. From South Africa. Does the surrounding table come with the machine? Or do you get someone to build it for you?
We made the table custom. The machine does not come with a table.
Timothy, what kind of needle does this machine use? The one for home sewing machines (flat side), or a commercial needle (round shaft)? Thank for the video and for highlighting the Janome machine.
In the description box below the video, he said the Janome uses a standard needle.
@@cheshkat6321 Thank you for the info. I didn't even think to look there.
Standard. I use Schmetz 90 needles. The older version of this machine, the DB, uses a DBX needle with is round and, as I learned using that older version, a pain in the rear.
@@timothytotten9409 Thank you for the reply. Chesh kat had already informed me that you had included the needle info in the description box. I didn't even think to look there before I asked the question. But I did get a big kick out of the "...pain in the rear" comment 🤣.
It looks like the Juki or?
What do you sew with this machine? Layers, leather, vinyl? Trying to decide between Juki TL-18, 1600p and HD9. The more research I do the more confusing it becomes. There are demos of the HD9 sewing types of leather but, I am unable to find videos of the 1600p sewing leather
Did you ever find the answers, I am.going through same dilemma 🤔.
@@vickiclarke3915Hahaha 😆 😮😢😢. Same here Juki TL-2010Q vs Janome 1600P-QC?
Dear timothy, could you tell me where is the Janome 1600 P made? thanks a lot!
I have no idea where it is made. I bought it from a local sewing store.
There is no quality control in China. That’s why Briggs & Stratton is no longer in business. They made engines for lawnmowers for years in Wisconsin. Then they sent the manufacturing to China. The quality was so bad on the lawnmower engines that they were getting class action lawsuits galore, and had to go out of business. I could go on and on. If it is made in China, you can keep it. I don’t care how many cool features it has..
Deae sir
Which camera you are using to shoot videos
I use my iPhone actually!
Which model
Please reply
Meraba acaba sipariş turkiyeye geliyrmu ve bu makine ilik aciyormu
It does not make button holes. It does not have a zigzag stitch. Only straight stitch.
So can you tell me the difference between the Janome 1600P and the Janome HD9
LoL is that all, there has to be something more to the HD9
@@CrystalKay356 my understanding is it is a updated version of the 1600P, it has two thread ways, 1 normal sewing thread, the other for heavier thread, I believe better lighting and a bigger bobbin. I am just looking into it, I am between the Juki 2200qvp and the Janome HD 9.
lol, its a tortoise not a turtle but hey,
Turtle on L and tortoise on R😅
