Just ordered my machine. Great lesson to start off right
I have a Janome 6500 which I clean by first attaching 1/2 of a larger drinking straw to the end of my canister cleaner hose with duck tape to seal the straw so just the end is sucking out stuff. It is flexible and long to get in the smaller areas under the plate. Then I do a small amount of oiling - thanks for the specifics of where to oil. Someone told me years ago that this Janome doesn’t need oiling but since it’s a machine with moving parts, I felt that it must need it!
I use a. small flexible tube can get all around inside blow through you wouldn't believe what comes out keep it with the machine parts have a blessed day
Leah, Thank you for such a clear & precise video. I have a Pfaff Hobby Grand Quilter 1200. Bought for me when they 1st came out. My dealer recently told me it was made by Janome. I am very happy you are making videos. I learn new things with each of your videos. Have a great day my quilting friend. J in GA
Beautiful machine. Thank you for the tutorials.
Great tutorial, thanks Leah. I love my Janome 1600P . I love the micro oil bottle so will need to look out for one in Australia.
Thank you Leah. I have bought a second hand Janome 1600P and I was feeling anxious about the oiling and maintenance of an unfamiliar machine. Your clear and calm explanation has put my mind at rest. Fingers crossed that I can cope with this larger machine 🤞🏽
I'm sure you'll do fine! Enjoy!
Thank you Leah. so informative I just got my machine so needed to see this x
Excellent presentation! Thank you!
Thank you Leah it is reassuring to see that I have been doing it correctly 😁 I love this machine
Happy to help!
Thank you for not having those ugly fake nails and bright polish like many other videos.
Thank you for your tutorial.
You are welcome!
Thanks Leah!
You're so welcome!
I also have a 6500 and the manual says no oiling necessary - it has a reservoir within the machine, but I was not happy about it going reaching other areas - or rather I can't see how it serves all parts. It is also difficult to open as the screws are not conventional tool box stuff and so she gets an overhaul at the service centre where the reservoir is topped up. There are no holes to drop the oil in near the computer side of it, but a friend suggested putting a drop of oil in the bobbin area where the needle goes in - there seems to be a felted pad? Not sure how that would help apart from oiling the needle tip! But I do like the idea of putting oil on the brush so I will be doing that and wiping around. Also a small drop at the edge of the bobbin area. Perhaps Janome had a rethink after this machine was made. Meanwhile the vintage machines are so much easier to cater for! Thank you Leah. xxx
Im from South Africa got a 5100 Janome
Dear Leah
I keep meaning to write to you to say thank you for your podcasts. Very informative. Looked at your podcast 'oil your Janome'. I have got a Janome DC3050, which I am very pleased with. Great to take to workshop. Always thought it very interesting that I did not have to oil it! I am going to clean my machine, got machine oil. As moving parts always will dry up? Look forward to hear from you.
All the best and keep safe.

I would put a drop of oil on the needle bar with the needle in the down position. I would also brush out the bobbin area, remove the plastic bobbin case and place a drop underneath. That is what I typically do for that style of top loading machine.
@@LeahDay Thank you very much. Shall do as per your recommendation.
Thank you Leah, I have this machine and was having trouble with the motor oiling, much clearer now. Perhaps you would consider a lesson on the auto needle threader some time, just can’t get my head around it. Love this machine.
Don't you clean out the bobbin case? I've had problems before caused by fibres trapped under the spring.
Yes, if it needs it!
I have a Janome 7318 and a 8200 Janome Horizon. Neither show in the manuals where to put the oil, and the dealer indicated these machines don't need oiling. I would more than gladly oil them, but not sure where!
On top loading bobbin machines like this, I place a drop of oil on the needle bar when the needle is in the down position. Then when I'm brushing out the bobbin area, I remove the bobbin case and place a drop underneath it. It's not a lot, but I just can't stand the idea of letting it run dry!
Is it not easier to put the hoover nozzle on the machine before oiling it instead of brushing the lint out - doesn't brushing the lint just cause the fibres to dissipate elsewhere in the machine?
If you have those tiny vacuum attachments, then yes, start with that. Obviously use the method that works best for you, but be sure to be sucking the lint and dirt out, not blowing it in.
I don’t have a quilting foot for my machine it is the Janome 1600 do you carry them?
Yep! You can find my favorite darning foot here! - leahday.com/products/convertible-darning-foot-kit
Question do you oil a 15000? I have been told no but my Bernina drinks the stuff.
Yes. I brush it out before starting a big project and place a drop of oil under the plastic bobbin holder and one on the needle bar. I just checked the manual and it has very clear diagrams on brushing out the machine, but no oil spots listed. I'm in the habit of oiling the hook and needle bar of all my machines whether they list it or advise it or not.
@@LeahDay thank you
Thank You. Thank You. so much better done than the Janome Videos ( they should hire you ). Am going to share this video on the HD9 group as the machines are very similar.
Thank you Jeroen! I really appreciate you sharing this with your group!
Last time I got my sewing machine serviced by a professional, he blew it out with can air and told me I need to use can air more regularly and not just use a brush to clean my machine.
Wow! I'm pretty shocked to hear this. I wouldn't advise using him to service your machine ever again.
I haven't gone back, but unfortunately he is the only one in my area. I have been putting it off, but need something. My machine is skipping stitches on zig zag and the fancy stitches. Can only use the straight stitch on it. I think I have thrown the timing out.
@@quiltsformilez I once took my machine to a local person and it came back worse than when I took it to him. He said if there were problems to let him know, but I decided no way was I going to let him near my machine again. I then took it to a dealer in the next state (closest dealer to me) and they fixed the original problem and the problems he created (screws wrong size in wrong places !!) and while it is a drive , I won't take it any place else. So some times the drive is worth it.
