Boot time is slow because of the boot loader as it isn't a hacked install, patches are done in memory.
That means if you have an SSD it will feel like an HDD, and if you have an HDD it will feel like it takes forever.

It didn't show an error after running the installer, but I couldn't boot without using the USB drive. The SIP was the culprit and after disabling it then running the installer again, it boots from the hard drive now.

I do have a question, I know you explained already because other people already asked the question how to book the computer without the usb plug. If I understand correct seem I will have to download the open core installation again ( I don’t know we’re the original ended), and select the HD not the usb during the initial installation procedure.
If I do that, I going to have to perform the full installation? Tye format of the HD, the reinstalación the Ventura OS? Is this mean I will loose all the work done so far ? ( I had to install the Microsoft 360 package) and some others.
I hope I clear. I also hear you saying that the usb plug in should no longer needed after few reboots? So far I have done maybe 10 reboots and always if I leave the usb drive unplug, the booting don’t work..

Thanks, J. Yes, I was managing everything until 12.6 when all the trouble started. The only way around this now is to go back to an old Mohave HDD, boot from that and see if my other drives (with corrupted OS but otherwise intact) can be foraged for their data. I’ve handed the MP over to a tech guy now. I’m hoping he can get to my old Mojave desktop and we can see where we are. What I don’t understand is why the drive that had not been updated to 12.6 also failed to boot past recovery. Is there a sure fire way to migrate data and settings from that 12.5.1 SATA (now in a USB enclosure) back to the Mojave HDD? I also have TM backups on another internal drive.

After several helpful comments, you’ve been reading but not responding to my other comments on the install of 12.2.1 on my MacPro5,1 - I presume that is some of the impetus for this video. I am considering making a new install USB (just to be sure it is correct), then wiping my main drive and doing a clean install of 12.2.1. Then, if it works, using Migration Assistant to get my files and programs back. If that doesn’t work, I’ll have to use TM to revert back to Catalina, which is a dosdude1 install that works very well. Whadda ya think about that as a step for now?

My mother's mid-2011 iMac (iMac 12,2) is really having trouble running Monterey (I keep getting the blue screen of death before I can run the post-install root patching, even in Safe Mode), so I think the best and simplest thing is just too go back to High Sierra and leave it at that. Or just start High Sierra installer and after restart go to Apple boot selector and select High Sierra as standard boot option - it doesn't make a difference if OpenCore is still on EFI partition - if you don't load it, it's non-existent... ;-)

Hello! I don't know if the new OCLP update changed anything with the mid 2012 mac pro (I didn't even know this model was having problems until I saw the comments on your videos) but I'm currently using OCLP 0.6.1 and getting stuck at the boot loading screen after selecting EFI boot and then Install Ventura. Is it simply that Ventura just will not work on a mid-2012 Mac Pro? =(

Hi Jessie, I think I may have pushed my luck a bit by trying to load the latest version of MacOS Monterey on a late 2008 MacBook 5,1. I am going for a complete OS install, and have wiped the previous OS on my disk (OS X El Capitan). So basically there isn't anything to go back to. My original problem was that the OpenCore scripts would run all the way through, then it would restart and I'd get a flashing file icon with question mark. I remedied this by ensuring I was entering the EFI boot as you instructed in other comments. I finally made it into Monterey... well sort of. It gets to the introductory "Hello, Halo, Hola" language colorful setup screen, but when I select English, it bogs out, goes gray and restarts at the beginning of the language selection. I'm thinking I need to enter this stage in safe mode to run past a few of these issues to make it to the OC patcher updates. At least on my system, I am getting no indication that safe mode is being entered. I'm realizing I probably should have gone with Mojave or a different OS, as not making it through the initial language settings isn't a good sign. Unfortunately, my only other computer is a PC and making a new boot drive with an older Mac OS, such as Mojave or Big Sur, seems like I'd be opening a whole new can of worms. Anyway, trying to bust past the language selection screen to update the patches for my system. Any tips? At least then I can download a different OS image for a smoother ride.

Jessie, here's a post I made on MacRumors and the reply I got. I thought you might be able to work this into your discussions on March 1. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to have multiple hard drives mounted in their Mac Pro 5,1.
Maybe you, or anyone reading this post, can help me. I have two HD in my 2012 Mac Pro 5,1 w/metal GPU, both are NVMe ..... one is High Sierra and the other I've used OCLP 0.4.2 to install Big Sur. I have OCLP loaded on the Big Sur. After installing Big Sur, I then force booted ("option" key) the High Sierra drive, which is a native install. Everything went as expected for High Sierra. I then tried to "option" boot back into the Big Sur HD using "EFI" placed on Big Sur......I got the "circle with a slash". The mac no longer recognized Big Sur.
To get back into Big Sur I had to re-install with USB. Once install is finished, everything works as designed. Then after I restart into High Sierra then back to Big Sur......that dreaded "circle with a slash" occurs and I have to re-install to get Big Sur back.
    Here's the reply:
Add -no_compat_check to the boot-args and boot HS via OpenCore.
Also set LauncherOption to Disabled if you have a bootscreen GPU, its easier to do a native HS boot with the native boot picker that way.
IF you want to give me your thoughts ahead of March 1, I could test it to insure it works because it may be hard for your to replicate the above problem. At any rate, I won't be able to watch as I have to work......but I'll see your video when I get home.
PS: If this topic is not covered in your Premiere--I would still appreciate your thoughts on my dilemma. Thanks

Hi and thanks for the info. From my knowledge I would have been enough if you resetted NVRAM before trying to boot HS (as OpenCore changes it to its needs) - maybe try this on your Mac?
The -no_compat_check boot option can be switched on in the Legacy patcher Settings: „allow native macOS“ or something like this, as OpenCore normally doesn’t load natively supported macOS. But try the NVRAM reset first after you have used Big Sur if you want to load High Sierra without OpenCore….

@@JessiesFlying Jessie, my man! THANK YOU for the advise. I did exactly what you said and IT WORK wonderfully. I can native "Option" into High Sierra and then reboot directly thru OCLP to Big Sur. I did have to "Control" pick Big Sur to set it in the OCLP Boot screen. I've tried it several times and it worked every time....... no more "slash circle". Can't wait to see your Premiere.....I'm sure I'll learn more!
On another note: With all that's going on in Ukraine, I pray for their people....but I pray that you stay safe!

I am confused. I have a MacPro 5,1 running on Mojave 10.14.6 and I am looking to update to Catalina. Will this process work as well? Also, is doing the Macos Catalina Patcher by dosDude work as well? Any clear explanation to this would be very helpful as I am very illiterate when it comes to this stuff. So in summary: i want to update my Mojave to Catalina in the easiest way possible.

Use dosdude1’s patcher as OpenCore is only for Big Sur or newer…

I recently used OCLP to install Monterey on iMac 2008. It's very slow.. but now I noticed it doesnt recognize my internal DVD driver (per Disk Utility and About this Mac)... OCLP page says this is a known issue. Any fix for this yet?

Great advices, learned a lot, I followed your videos and tried to install on internal drive with dual boot Catalina/win 10..it does not add efi but logs as Windows efi partiotion on basic loader, when I select windows it loads open core and gives me options to boot in windows or macos which works, so from opencore I can boot both partitions. When I boot to macos and try to upgrade with sonoma sais system not compatible -)) deleted oc and system from efi folder -)) and waiting for better version...is it even possible to ubdate macos with dual boot already present?

Hey. I have MacPro 5.1 with 80 RAM. I use BigSur installed on the disk NVME via the PCI adapter. The problem is that with a long work in the editing program or when dropbox synchronizes files, the RAM leak occurs in OS. After the whole RAM is exhausted, OS hangs and only the off button helps. The problem is solved using a program that automatically cleans/resets the RAM when approximately 2GB remains. But this is not normal!

It can be very difficult to set up OpenCore to a specific PC hardware, a lot of files / drivers to collect, and a lot of configs to tweak. There’s only one way: you have to go through Dortania’s guide and do try and error

as your iMac is non-Metal, I recommend maximum Monterey, Catalina or High Sierra is still way faster...

what helped me succeed was installing a good ssd brand ,
first I had a cheap Patriot brand ssd and it was failing when creating installer.
Second , patch the osx your running now with opencore legacy patcher.
Also , you probably should disable sip protection before you do anything at all.
make sure you move the legacy patcher over to the apps folder.
open the patcher now and choose update patcher.
Now after it updates , choose create usb installer .
Be prepared for the whole process to seem like its taking way too long ,
the truth is it will , but in the end after post install drivers its well worth it.

I'm trying to help a friend upgrade her 2008 iMac to Monterrey. I used the open core loader and at the first restart the machine is stuck in a loop between a solid white screen and black screen. I have tried command r, and option keys but I can not get it out of the loop. I'm one step away from pulling the hard drive and formatting it for a clean install. Any suggestions?

      2008 MACs are problematic: ruclips.net/video/6DUVc_TSqcY/видео.html
I recommend creating a USB drive and installing Monterey from there, but as I said - maybe stay with macOS High Sierra or Catalina…

Just start legacy patcher and install OpenCore to your harddisk. Unplug USB drive and now select EFI boot of your harddisk in the boot selector… 👍
