Hi! Love your video by the way. However, after installing 14.1 Sonoma to my 2012 MacBook Pro, I cannot use mail app. Is there a fix, or work around for this?
After trying for 6 hours, I came across your video & it saved my life! I was getting so frustrated because it just wouldn’t work for me. I ended up following your steps & BOOM, I now have the newest update on my computer. LIFESAVER!!!
Boot time is slow because of the boot loader as it isn't a hacked install, patches are done in memory. That means if you have an SSD it will feel like an HDD, and if you have an HDD it will feel like it takes forever.
@@JessiesFlying You got a Metal GPU right? And decent processing. Because a Core 2 Duo MacBook patched to Catalina vs patched with this, the boot time nearly doubles.
@@JessiesFlying I know. But Apple dropping support for 2012 Macs and devices with Metal GPUs is unjustified! Just like they dropped support for a lot of 2008-2009 devices with Sierra, unjustified. Even the mid 2007, with CPU upgrade it supports SSE4.1 so shouldn't be dropped!
what helped me succeed was installing a good ssd brand , first I had a cheap Patriot brand ssd and it was failing when creating installer. Second , patch the osx your running now with opencore legacy patcher. Also , you probably should disable sip protection before you do anything at all. make sure you move the legacy patcher over to the apps folder. open the patcher now and choose update patcher. Now after it updates , choose create usb installer . Be prepared for the whole process to seem like its taking way too long , the truth is it will , but in the end after post install drivers its well worth it.
No matter how many times my heatsink is replaced, my Macbook is just not working well with Opencore especially while playing video. There is just that much can be done by software patches, if the hardware is aging and officially unsupported, it is still not gonna work well.
Das einzige was jetzt nicht funktioniert , trotz nachträglichem Patch 2x , ist das verbinden des Macs mit dem IPhone 11 . Somit ist auch kein AirDrop möglich. Vielleicht haben das Problem auch andere.

I keep getting the “failed to create macOS installer” error. It happens when it’s writing to the flash drive. It gets stuck around 130 bytes written, then it fails. What should I do?
@@JessiesFlying I think this error happened because I already had OpenCore set up and running Big Sur, and then I tried to repeat the same process showed in Mr. Macintosh's tutorial for Monterey. The correct process was once OpenCore is set up and running the OS version I originally installed, simply download and run the Monterey installer. All is good now! Thanks for the response.
Hello Jessie i'm having a touch of trouble with my final patch installation. I've gotten Monterey onto my installed hard drive but as expected the wi-fi and bluetooth functions are missing. So i'm in the midst of correcting that fault with the patch tool but when I get to the install part open core is informing me SIP is enabled; here's the rub System information states it's not. I've visited terminal and the results are mixed. Do you have any ideas as i'm stuck with a hockey puck mouse and ethernet only connection. I'd like to send you an image but i don't think i can.
Go to the settings of OpenCore Legacy patcher, there you can disable SIP, then reinstall OpenCore. After reboot go to recovery and to the terminal, disable SIP again and check status - maybe that will work…

I'm on a mid 2011 imac 27 12,2 - The Post Install Root Patch twice tip @ 4:57 did the trick for me. Actual steps were to build and install, then run the patch, then build and install + run the patch once more. I could see the output was much longer the second time around. Thanks so much for posting these tips! In my case I had updated to 12.3.1 before installing the 0.4.3 patcher. The above steps sorted things out.
Thank you. I was unable to write the EFI to the internal disk after installing Sonoma on my 2012 Macbook Pro using OpenCore. It didn't show an error after running the installer, but I couldn't boot without using the USB drive. The SIP was the culprit and after disabling it then running the installer again, it boots from the hard drive now.
The challenge with this process is once the EFI is installed to the local drive, when you reboot and hold option to select EFI boot, you can’t see this screen with an RX580 installed. I tried installing Ventura 13.4 on a Mac Pro 5,1 with the original GPU, but after installation and swapping for the RX580 GPU, now I get no video output whatsoever. Haven’t found a solution yet.

Jessie, hey. Ran into a serious problem tonight. After a few blissful days of using Monterey I restarted from my internal SATA ssd (from my PCIe ssd). I had downloaded 12.6 on the PCIe drive, but not sure if this is where the trouble started. On the reboot I couldn’t get past the boot picker screen except to Recovery… which I did and installed a TM backup. Still in the endless boot loop. I get a chime, the boot picker screen and if I pick the SATA drive I get the Apple logo and briefly a progress bar then quickly a black screen, then back to a restart. Can my MP be recovered?

Hey, Jessie. I got my 5,1 Mac Pro working with Monterey (OCLP), then installed the OS on two drives: one internal SATA, then an external SSD. When I tried to boot from the second or third drive I got an error message ("Unable to set startup disc. An error occurred while setting [my SATA SSD] as startup disc. The operation couldn't be completed (SDError Domain error 104"). I booted into Recovery Mode to change the settings on the security utility, but got another error message there saying it didn't work with the OS firmware. I upgraded my 2011 MacBook to Ventura and it worked well but when I try to use GarageBand I get the 'unable to initialize graphics' message. When I check the open core patcher it says all patches are already installed. I also tried reverting the patches and reinstalling but I still get the same message.
Yes, GarageBand needs Metal capable graphic card - yours is not unfortunately. So you would need a Mac from around 2013 or newer for latest GarageBand...
Thanks brother, it seems a month ago when I install to my iMac 17.1 at that time I use extended but I installed Sonoma 14.1 directly instead of using open core installer creation for 14.1 and it was freezing and all so I remade the usb with open core and 14.1 but this time I format the drive with APFS. And that’s why no matter how many time I add theEFI to internal drive it doesn’t show up when booting. Sitting at barber shop m, once I go back I will give it a try by reformatting to Mac journaled and let you know how did it go. Thanks .

Hi Jessie, how do I properly remove Open Core Legacy Patcher, and the EFI boot loader, and return the factory settings and use the last compatible macOS version? My mother's mid-2011 iMac (iMac 12,2) is really having trouble running Monterey (I keep getting the blue screen of death before I can run the post-install root patching, even in Safe Mode), so I think the best and simplest thing is just too go back to High Sierra and leave it at that. I just want to make sure that I properly remove OCLP and restore the SIP so that she won't have any issues with the factory installation of macOS. Thanks for all your help.
Hi, just mount EFI partition and delete the folder "OC", then do NVRAM reset. Or just start High Sierra installer and after restart go to Apple boot selector and select High Sierra as standard boot option - it doesn't make a difference if OpenCore is still on EFI partition - if you don't load it, it's non-existent... ;-)
Thanks for getting back, Jessie! I managed to solve the problem by going through the OCLP routine from scratch with the SATA drive. I've now read that OCLP'd drives HATE being cloned, so I won't be trying that with the next NVMe drive I'm about to set up as my primary. On another subject - I've watched your vid on the Ventura incompatibility with your (and my) beloved mid-2012 Mac Pro. Thing is, I've updated the CPU to an Intel Xeon X5680 (3.33GHz). Will this run with Ventura?
Hi jessie. I use the latest version of opencore legacy 0.5.2. I have a mac pro 5.1 after creating the usb boot and reboot with the usb flash drive directly install Monterey appeared. The EFI boot did not appear. So i continue the instalation. and the WiFi did not work. I tried your method to fix it but it didn't work. Continue installing programs and they seemed to work fine until install clean mymac trial run it and kernel panic screen. i rebooted. the operating system did not start. it restarted automatically. Try reset vram. it didn't work. What did I do wrong? Maybe using an old opencore legacy versión? Why EFI boot not appeare.
Geez, I was not getting any EFI boot. I reformatted an SSD Drive (1T to test) in MacOS Extended. I already had Install Monterey in my startup SSD Drive, with OpenCore Patcher, I installed OpenCore on that new empty SSD, I selected the EFI Bootand then, I am stuck, I get a black screen and no activity. There is a video from Dr Macintosh I followed before, should I start over with his instructions or should I start over with your instructions. The problem with your video, you don't show step by step all the procedures so I am now lost. Could you make a video with all the steps? so that I won't get lot somewhere.
I am confused. I have a MacPro 5,1 running on Mojave 10.14.6 and I am looking to update to Catalina. Will this process work as well? Also, is doing the Macos Catalina Patcher by dosDude work as well? Any clear explanation to this would be very helpful as I am very illiterate when it comes to this stuff. So in summary: i want to update my Mojave to Catalina in the easiest way possible.
Great Video! I have successfully updated my MacPro 5.1 to Monterey a key step for me was disabling SIP. No what th install is completed should I enable SIP or will this cause issues? Thanks for your help
Thanks, J. Yes, I was managing everything until 12.6 when all the trouble started. The only way around this now is to go back to an old Mohave HDD, boot from that and see if my other drives (with corrupted OS but otherwise intact) can be foraged for their data. I’ve handed the MP over to a tech guy now. I’m hoping he can get to my old Mojave desktop and we can see where we are. What I don’t understand is why the drive that had not been updated to 12.6 also failed to boot past recovery. Is there a sure fire way to migrate data and settings from that 12.5.1 SATA (now in a USB enclosure) back to the Mojave HDD? I also have TM backups on another internal drive.
So, I upgraded my mbpro 8,2 to Monterey, I then went to system preferences and clicked on upgrade to Monterey 12.3.1. My question is: Do I need to install oclp, and the post install patch to this new install? Thanks in advance.

Hi. Wi-fi doesn't work and I can't fix the issue through the "Post Install Root Patch". When I click the "Post Install Root Patch" button and then the "Start Root Patching" button in the result pops up a window that says "A problem occurred trying to download PatcherSupportPkg binaries. Hi Jessie, I think I may have pushed my luck a bit by trying to load the latest version of MacOS Monterey on a late 2008 MacBook 5,1. I am going for a complete OS install, and have wiped the previous OS on my disk (OS X El Capitan). So basically there isn't anything to go back to. My original problem was that the OpenCore scripts would run all the way through, then it would restart and I'd get a flashing file icon with question mark. I remedied this by ensuring I was entering the EFI boot as you instructed in other comments. I finally made it into Monterey... well sort of. It gets to the introductory "Hello, Halo, Hola" language colorful setup screen, but when I select English, it bogs out, goes gray and restarts at the beginning of the language selection. I'm thinking I need to enter this stage in safe mode to run past a few of these issues to make it to the OC patcher updates. At least on my system, I am getting no indication that safe mode is being entered. I'm realizing I probably should have gone with Mojave or a different OS, as not making it through the initial language settings isn't a good sign. Unfortunately, my only other computer is a PC and making a new boot drive with an older Mac OS, such as Mojave or Big Sur, seems like I'd be opening a whole new can of worms. Anyway, trying to bust past the language selection screen to update the patches for my system. Any tips? At least then I can download a different OS image for a smoother ride.
Oha! Monterey on a 14 year old MacBook! 😳😂 Dortania’s OpenCore Website has a part how to create an installer under Windows - check this out and download maybe Mojave… 👍
Quick question. at 3:59 you said to reformat to MacOS Extended (Journaled) if you're doing a clean wipe. I have a fusion drive formated in APFS and i do NOT want to wipe my data. what should i do!
You can adjust install it as update, but when something goes wrong your macOS and data is gone. Best would be to test it on an empty drive or do a backup

Thanks for the Video! One quick question: What is the best/easiest way to uninstall the current version of my MAC? I would like to reinstall in completly fresh with an older version. Do i just have to make a new USB Bootlable and install it?
It is also possible to install a supported Mac OS for your machine under recovery mode and download the OS directly from Apple servers there is an option to do that.
I upgraded from Mojave I don't remember how I got there on my 5,1 mac pro but after 2 days and 4 clean installs I used oclp and than tried to migrate the data last backed up before I tried martin lo's methed. Opencore makes me feel like I’m using Linux in 2009 again lol
Boot time is slow because of the boot loader as it isn't a hacked install, patches are done in memory.
That means if you have an SSD it will feel like an HDD, and if you have an HDD it will feel like it takes forever.
Boot time with my MacPro is fine with ssd…. 🤔
@@JessiesFlying You got a Metal GPU right? And decent processing.
Because a Core 2 Duo MacBook patched to Catalina vs patched with this, the boot time nearly doubles.
@@Zebra_Paw yeah, sometimes we have to admit that the newer macOS‘s are not meant for such old hardware… 😢
@@Zebra_Paw I totally agree…

Great to hear you’ve been successful! 👍
what helped me succeed was installing a good ssd brand ,
first I had a cheap Patriot brand ssd and it was failing when creating installer.
Second , patch the osx your running now with opencore legacy patcher.
Also , you probably should disable sip protection before you do anything at all.
make sure you move the legacy patcher over to the apps folder.
open the patcher now and choose update patcher.
Now after it updates , choose create usb installer .
Be prepared for the whole process to seem like its taking way too long ,
the truth is it will , but in the end after post install drivers its well worth it.

After reboot go to recovery and to the terminal, disable SIP again and check status - maybe that will work…
Hello. I have a macpro 5.1 with opencore legacy pather v0.6.5 and Ventura 13.4.1.
Nope, it’s still pre-Haswell. Maybe the OpenCore devs can manage it later on, but be assured I will keep you all updated on this topic!

Please mine, post install patch, not working and when I try to boot the os it endsup on the loading bar later it starts showing me 2 direction icons. Please help am using imac9,1 running on macOS X El Captain.
OCLP doesn’t work on El Capitan. But I strongly recommend high Sierra as maximum for that old iMac, maybe Catalina
@@JessiesFlying Thank you for your feed back, So what you are basically telling me is that, I should upgrade to High sierra and then I can upgrade to Ventura?
yes, as High Sierra is latest macOS without need for Metal GPU. But I don't recommend Ventura for such old MACs, I would suggest Catalina (last one not made for Apple M1 chips)...
Hej, vielen Dank für die Anleitung.

Was bedeutet das? Das System läuft bisher einwandfrei.

installed monterey on a partitioned iMac 2010 with high sierra as the primary OS. i have no wifi. tried to patch with 0.4.3 patcher still no luck. also tried the 55mb zip file to run it in the Terminal mode. it says car-active. i boot into recovery mode then terminal and typed csrutil status, it says status unknown. i then typed csrutil disable, it says SIP is turned off. then when i restart, i'm still not able to load drivers. i still get csr-active. please help!
Hi, did you try to install the patch twice (as suggested in the video)? Otherwise as far as I know Apple has dropped nearly all drivers from Mac’s older than 2012. I would just buy a natively supported USB WiFi stick… 👍
Hello Jessie's, I installed Macos bigsur, but the apple logo in the menu bar are missing, & all the links are missing. Tried all the tricks, failed. On the right of the screen all the icons show plus icons on the dock & menu are missing. Is there anyway to rectify that. Thanks in advance.

Hi! Is there a way to fix Macbook Air 2015 on ventura using OCLP? Everything runs fine except for when I boot to safe mode, the log in screen freezes, turns black, then goes back on in a loop. 😭
Might be an issue of the OpenCore graphic drivers not being loaded - why do you need safe mode?

First, I have installed Ventura on a Mid-2010 MacbookPro6,2 (i5, 8gb, 1tb SSD) with OCLP 6.6 after a straight Apple install of High Sierra. User info et al in Ventura just fine. Even got a Wacom Cintiq 21UX 2 working with a patched 21UX 1 driver.
Now, trying to install Ventura with OCLP 6.6 on to an external 1tb HDD attached to a Mid-2012 MacbookPro9,1 (i7, 16gb, 1tb SSD). The OCLP insaller boots and I get to the option screen and am unable to make a selection from the option list or anything. Cursor arrow moves, but cannot select/click. Nothing on the keyboard works (arrows or enter). Any option I might change to work around?
Use a usb 2.0 hub and usb keyboard maybe?
@@JessiesFlying I keep a 2tb TimeMachine up to date, but wanted to have a bootable backup. SuperDuper! did that easy enough even with some 1,050,000+ files. Needed too. I have a external keyboard, but is in a KVM to switch a Wacom Cintiq 21UX between the two MBPs. Unplugged a USB mic and plugged another keyboard into my Thunderbolt display USB. This got things started and went to bed. Mistake, all to moving unplugged the power and I didn't notice. Batteries died in the middle of the istall and hosed the whole thing. Stripped the workstation to what was necessary and used the bootable backup to restore Catalina back like nothing happened with SuperDuper! Best $27 I ever spent -- that's for Dave at Shirt-Pocket. Plugged a USB stick into the Thunderbolt USB where external was and made a fresh OpenCore installer. One restart and a couple of key presses later and we're installing for a second time. It took and even recognized the Cintiq 21UX without a patched driver, some apps needed to be updated. Night & Day difference between Ventura on the i7 MBP9,1 and the i5 MBP6,2. The i5 is usable say for email and browsing, but not so much for graphics (CSP, GIMP, Krita); lag. The i7 is a dream.

Hi Jesse. I successfully installed Monterey, and it ran smooth. But when I try to reboot the progress bar goes to about 50%, and doesn’t finish. So I can’t login. Please advise me. Thanks
did you try safe mode (keep SHIFT pressed during boot)?

TIP: If you have bluetooth problems with a 3rd party USB Bluetooth, you'll need to add the Bluetooth kexts that support that device and add the entries for it in the config.plist in the EFI open core folder. Spent a whole day and eventually figured it out.
Great to hear! Where did you get the specific kext file?
Or add a USB bluetooth dongle.
Got Big Sur installed on my 2012 MacBook Pro using open core. Works great except once it goes into hibernation mode. The sleep will only last about half n hour and then the sleep cuts off. When I go to open after that it then has to kinda reboot to wake up. Any fix?
Unfortunately sleep was always tricky - I remind switching sleep and hibernation off
I am using MacBook Pro 11,4 with Quad-Core Intel Core i7, 2.2Gz, 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3. Used OCLP 1.5.0 to upgrade from Monterey to Sonoma. Everything seems to be working normal since the upgrade. However, I am unable to restart the system whenever the displays go off on battery as per battery setting or whenever I close the lid off. the colour wheel keeps spinning after I put my login password. I had to force shutdown my laptop and restart the system every single time. Is there any fix for this? Please assist.

After installing Monterey 12.3 by using Open core on iMac 21.5" A1311 late 2009, Photo Booth is not working but camera works fine through internet. Please give your advice how to fix. Thank you
Generally speaking is Big Sur / Monterey on Macs older than 2012 problematic - that can be ANY hardware component in your iMac that is not supported by Apple anymore or lacks a feature Photo Booth needs now - so I think you just have to live with that flaw or go back gradually to an older MacOS where it still works...
