  • Unboxing the SE Flex Power Grinder/Carver Set. This is an inexpensive power grinder tool available from Amazon. I'd like to get back into bird carving and decided that a power carving tool would be useful. This will allow me to try some power carving techniques without breaking the bank. This is not a paid promotion I just thought that taking a look at this might be useful to someone.

I bought one two years ago and it is my go to tool for carving and it has not developed any faults. I use tree or four days a week as I carve wood spirits etc. for sale . I have broken the inner shaft in the cable part but probably because I forgot to Grease it before using it. Great tool.

Hi, I bought this same flex shaft at a swap meet several years ago but never opened the box until today. It was new in the box but no brand name and just a simple assembly diagram. The motor label reads exactly the same as yours. I’m going to use it for jewelry making and need to drill holes in metal. Can you pls tell me the purpose of hammering the chuck into the hand piece. So glad I found your video and thanks in advance for your help.

On a commonly found handpiece of this kind, the chuck is held by a screw going into the spindle, which in turn is supported by two bearings. The chuck on this handpiece sits on a taper and can come off. Tapping it down seats the tapers. Just make sure to fully open the chuck jaws. While you have them open, look inside with a flashlight and see if there's a screw on the bottom. If there is, no need to tap it.

I had picked up a professional dental level item like this, the one I got it much more expensive and beefy, but it's huge compared to this one, I had paid like 40 bucks for it, completely adjustable, I just picked up this one from Facebook market place for 20 bucks, the potentiometer ie foot pedal on the dental one is much heavier and better built but it's a professional unit you'd expect that but it's cleanable and adjustable, I will built a foot pedal holder with some weight to it for the se one, nice review BTW.

It's been awhile since you put this video out. I just seen it but was wondering if this flex shaft grinder still works well after this time has gone by?

Striking a chuck on its jaws is a remarkably bad idea. I own several handpieces exactly like the one in the video. There's no need whatsoever to seat the chuck. It's ludicrous, actually, given the construction of the handpiece. The chuck is not seated on a taper as on a drill press. For future reference, don't _ever_ strike a chuck, any chuck, on its jaws. Good luck.

That may be true but this is what the directions that come with the tool tell you to do. I don't make this stuff up, I just follow the instructions that come with the tool.

@@RickMayotte Admittedly, this piqued my interest, as I own 5 flexshafts: 2 Foredoms (a TX and a SR), two Chinese Foredom counterfeits, and the one from HFT. All with Foredom pedals. Did a little digging and this is what I found: The product is put together by the importer who also wrote the instructions. The motor is essentially identical to the one sold as a (counterfeit) Foredom CC, the handpiece is not constructed like the others and its chuck does sit on a taper. I was wrong. The pedal is absolute garbage, like the handpiece, hence the abnormally low speed range indicated on the motor. I actually have this pedal. It has a narrow operating range. Too, be careful that it doesn't cause a fire. Seriously.
My best guess that the components of this tool - motor, shaft, handpiece, and pedal - are either made to look like the better items at a low price point or were outright rejected by their manufacturer, then purchased by the importer and sold on Amazon. Either way, they're not the common Chinese flexshaft parts.
The Foredom SR counterfeit that can be found on Amazon or ebay is a very good product, sans its pedal, which is still better than the pedal supplied with the unit in the video. The machine does well compared to the real thing. If one is looking for an inexpensive flexshaft, it's not a bad way to go with an upgraded pedal (ie. genuine Foredom). Same goes for the HFT flexshaft. Poor pedal, but the rest is pretty solid, especially for the money, given its performance. Used to cost about $50. Not sure of the current price. Good luck.

Pedal....not foot pedal...theres no such thing as a hand pedal, thats a lever.
