Exploring abandoned places is my hobby and finance it all out of my own pocket and the donations I get from the people who love watching the documentaries we make... A small donation would be greatly appreciated! ► / brosofdecay
Elkins Manor, A remnant of the American gilded age, it astonished many over the last century but has now been lost in time.
The Construction of this prominent building started in 1898, only a year after the neighboring building, Lynnewood hall! The design and construction of this renowned masterpiece were ordered by William L Elkins and carried out by the architect Horace Trumbauer. Elkins Manor Boasts 45 rooms that have been inspired by and built in the style of the Italian High Renaissance, Every single corner in this place has been thought about and designed into perfection. After the Elkins lived here for 3 decades the place was sold off and bought by The Dominican Sisters who converted it into a women's religious retreat, Thousands of Women visited and lived inside the Estate over the course of 75 years, and the remains of that time period are still to be seen throughout the mansion. The Dominican sisters took exceptional care of the estate and up kept every single piece of historical value in detail, but unfortunately, over time the needs and economics of the Dominican sisters changed, They could not keep up the mortgage payments on this massive property and filed for bankruptcy. In the year 2013, The Dominican sisters vacated the property. Almost a decade later renovations of this masterpiece have started, we got an exclusive chance to take a look at its magnificent insides and show you the remnants of this former beauty!

That amazing work they did in the wood in those walls ...
A masterpiece.
And we don' t even know the name of such an artist...
The name of all those artists who put hands and soul making the wall paper ; the design of the mirrors ; the sielings ; the paintings ; the chandelliers ; the marble chimneys ; all the hallway ...
Those perfect details we can admire silently.
We don' t know their names but we admire their love for beauty and perfection.
Great artists ! Maestros !
If anyone is interested in the floor plan, the 1901 edition of "Architecture" magazine featured this mansion and its floor plans, but listed it as Elstowe Mansion, so googling that name will bring up the plans (at a small scale, unfortunately). Googling "Elkins Mansion floor plans" brings up Lynnwood Hall for some reason.
Thanks so much.
Can this be restored to prior glory ? 😬
@@paulsuprono7225 It appears most of the architectural fabric (of the original Beaux Arts mansion) is surprisingly still intact, so restoration should be relatively easy. The areas that had the most decay appear to be later-day additions.
I believe Lynnwood Hall is in what is called Elkins Park.
Another great tour. So incredibly beautiful! Thankyou Leslie! You are incredible!!
So refreshing to see such a mansion that is not falling completely apart! Love your videos, Leslie. You are a gem.
Loved the tor! So glad someone is restoring it. But would have been wonderful to see the kitchen. That is a very important room of a home if you could start including into your videos! Once again, thank you.
I really love this channel, I enjoy watching ancient abandoned houses. Greetings from Egypt, cradle of civilization 🎀🎀🎀
I LIVE IN THE NORTEAST U.S. HAVE SEEN THIS HOME BUT NOT INSIDE. This is exciting to have you come here and to be honest there are so many in the U.S. and growing. Taxes so high etc. TY!!
Hi Lesley, The mansion is breath taking. Missed you on Sunday but enjoy seeing your video's what ever day it is. We appreciate what you do, love e from Texas.🤗
I'm happy that this beautiful estate is being renovated and made into a grand hotel. Of course it's much better than being demolished like so many others, but when I see these historical beauties, I love imagining how they were back in thier prime, when they were alive with family.
Same here. Hi sandy how are you doing with your family i do hope you’re safe from the Covid?
Love loving thats it’s being restored. I always get sad when I see beauty in these homes going to waste and ruin.
Awesome. I live in SC USA. Wonderful to stroll through with you.
Welcome to USA, so happy to have you here! From Louisiana ❤️
Same here. Hello Susan how are you doing with your family i do hope you’re safe from the Covid?
Wonderful Leslie ❤️💯😍
Love you, Leslie. This palace called you. A piece of heaven blessed & cared for by Sisters & Brothers that held her up with highest regards. Just amazing. Glad you enjoyed our America. Godspeed, Brother🤗
Wow, a lovely grand dame of a mansion Lesley!! I love it. These homes remind me of the Great Gatsby and the Roaring Twenties era!! That staircase you finished with was spectacular.
Thanks and I’m looking forward to seeing even more from this North American series 👏✌️
Leslie, are you going to make any other shows in the US? Do you have your European crew with you here?
Your drone work on this one is flawless. You do such fantastic work. I have to say that I was also concerned that you would not be able to find any places that were not trashed to the point of being depressing, so seeing this is a tremendous relief to me. When we were younger, we would do this and most of the places we found were sadly very wrecked by vandals. But there were a few places that were time capsules just slowly being reclaimed by nature and those places were well kept secrets. Back to this place - the light fixture hanging from the skylight is incredible. I just loved it. Thank you so much 😘💖
OMG!! Leslie i ❤️❤️ you for doing a documentary on this amazing mansion. This was one I asked for and hoped you could get to. I have only started watching an I couldn’t wait. This is my opinion is grander the the wieder estate. I am so happy it’s being saved. Thank you!!!!!
Wow that sound sweet
I love his hard work as well.

Your appreciation for these buildings shows in your voice and the way your softly touch things. The circular staircase is just absolutely beautiful. I'm glad your are enjoying America. I made my first trip to Europe last year and I was in awe of the architecture and the history there.
I was fortunate to visit Reggia di Caserta ( Royal Palace) . My mom wad born nearby in Napoli... We had a tour with an Italian/American guide.. His voice was mesmerizing, much like you ,Lesley... Thank you for a spectacular view of this once glorious Mansion.. Wonderful to read,it's to be repurposed into a Hotel💙
I would have loved to be alive in this time period. This mansion is beautiful and will return to its grand existence when renovation is complete. So much American history in this area. This is where America began. This is our heritage and so glad that generations to come will be able to experience it. Thank you for showing this amazing place to us!.

This place left me speechless - absolutely breathtaking!
This mansion is absolutely breathtaking. It's actually under 4 hours from where I live and I'll definitely stay here once the renovations are done. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hello Laura how are you doing with your family i do hope you’re safe from the Covid?
I love and appreciate that you do a brief synopsis of the history of the homes... you need your own television show
Lesley this was magnificent!! I had no idea there was anything left in the United States that was so nice and historical. I too thought that you were gonna find nothing but trashed places. Can’t wait to dive into the history of this Grand Dame! I can see all the outfits of the roaring 20s. Alcohol flowing, dancing and lots of laughter. I’m wondering if that last room that you went in was an extended ballroom. Did the place have an attic. And it must’ve been the reconstruction area that was the kitchen? I’m guessing. At any rate thank you very much. Epic tour. Love from California💜😎🤟🏻🇺🇸
I am glad they are fixing it .
Thank you Lesley for sharing this beautiful Pennsylvania guilded mansion. I was born and raised in PA and they have many beautiful old mansions. I am really glad you enjoyed your time there. Love and blessings to you.
Gorgeous place. It is so wonderful to see that that building is saved. Thank you for finding such a gem.
Stunning! Outstanding explore. Well done! I've worked in a luxury hotel among a long time ago. When I see this I get motivated to work there. Sorry that the USA is so far away from me. And my english is not very good.
Hello, there how are you doing with your family i do hope you’re safe from the Covid?

And the good news : they ' re trying to renovate the place. Those old walls will be full of life again and people will enjoy all that beauty.
Absolutely stunning and beautiful place. Thanks for showing it. I’m glad it’s being restored
Hey Lesley, very beautiful mansion. Thank you for your wonderful tour. It's so good to see that they're renovating the place for future use. Love ya!
The grand entrance hall was so breathtaking I almost started to cry. Wow! Thank you for all of the hard work and beautiful videos. I see other abandoned explorers but they do not compare with Bros of Decay. Thank you, Lesley and Team. Oh and that one room full of all that equipment that you couldn’t think of the English name for, I believe was the conservatory.
It's good to know this won't be lost to decay. Moreover, happy events will be held in this estate. Ty for sharing your explorations. ✌️
Glad to hear you're on our turf!! I'd love to meet you. I've followed you for a long time and enjoy EVERY explore!! Youre fascinating, yourself!!
Wow ! as I watch this VDO and all I can say is wow! it’s very stunning, love the architecture inside the building it’s so beautiful and beautiful detailed, and so rich indeed, very interesting , thank you for sharing.
Welcome to America, my dude. We're not all as trashy as other countries make us out to be. Yes we have our bad areas, though most of those are in the city areas. Our countryside is just as beautiful as your European countryside and with equally beautiful buildings and homes in some areas. (Yes, we even have our castles believe it or not!)
I am proud to live in rural America. Here, life is more innocent and simple. :)
Please come again!
He said that he expected abandoned places in the U.S. to be trashed, not trashy. Vandals do usually find their way into abandoned building and homes in the U.S. This place, like Lynnewood Hall, must usually have security, or it would be trashed.
@@jooleepadoolie Much like abandoned places in Europe are trashed. Probably more so than the US Probably due to the lower quality of living and income in general.
I'm proud to live in the U.S. ,an damn glade to live in the greatest nation in the world!! An the south is the best place to live!!!!
@@karancarnwright4312 ........ OH sweet Jesus !!
Your comments about trashy US makes me not want to follow you any longer, Leslie! You have So Much to learn and appreciate.
This looks incredible Lesley can’t wait missed you Sunday Ann uk 🇬🇧🇬🇧🙏

Man, I LOVE these videos. Stay safe and thank you for taking us on your adventures
Wow what a beautiful manor. I'm glad it's being renovated
LESLIE! How did you come to be here? Did someone in the US sponsor your trip? I think this story should start with how you came to be here! This is so wonderful and as usual your storytelling abilities are top notch. Your love for these amazing old places really show here as in everywhere you go!!Thank you!
Same here. Hello how are you doing Christine?
Thank you for featuring this estate. The artistry that is showcased in it is pretty amazing. The wealth of those who chose to do this combined with the architects who designed it for them were what allowed the artisans who did the details of every piece of this massive creative piece to be the way that it is. I cannot help but wonder if there are records of the actual companies and the employees who did all the craftmanship that all all over the ceilings and walls.
I also watched your Lynnewood Hall episode and in a way it does NOT suprise that these neighbors seemed like it was a kind of, "keeping up with the Joneses" situation. Both of these estates are so reminiscent of the Versaille. I imagine that they toured Paris and decided they wanted the same grandeur to live in when they got back to the United States so they spent no expense in doing just that. What I am noticing is that these estates generally do NOT seem to have provided anything in their will & testament to create some kind of provision to create a kind of endowment fund that will let the public/state/country eventually have stewardship for it. The Widener family had the foresight to donate their entire art collection to Washington, DC for the public to enjoy and somehow I imagine it could have been possible to do the same with the entire Lynnewood Hall estate.
I just want to say you do a wonderful job with these videos. Again, thank you!
This was truly a treat to see. So glad its getting restored.
Thamk you for sharing this gem
I live in Southern California and there are mansions everywhere. This is more beautiful than most. Especially you seeing in on a quiet snowy day. Thank you safe travels and God bless you 💪🏽🙏💖🐝
Please show this again when it’s renovated
I'm glad you got to explore this gorgeous place. Will all the neat details. Keep up the good work.
I, like you Leslie, would have never believed that such an elegant and breathtaking mansion would be found in the US. I thank God that renovations are being taken place, and this beauty will not go to ruin. Thank you for the wonderful explore of this palace.
There are quite a few of these types of mansions in the US, mostly from the gilded era. The largest restored mansion in the US is the Biltmore estate in Asheville NC. It was built by George Vanderbilt in the late 1800's.
This is by far one of the most beautiful place's you've shown us . Loved it
I'm glad someone is renovating the place too. You're in my area (sort of) in the U.S. I don't know if you are aware that there are places open to the public in Newport, Rhode Island - former private gilded-age mansions and such from the same area. The Vanderbuilt's had one or two of them, I believe. I know you do abandoned, but thought you might like to see them some time you are in the U.S. again. I toured a few of them years ago with my daughter. Thanks for sharing this one. Hopefully one day we'll get to see the finished renovation - hotel.
Am glad as well watching his videos. Hi Deb how are you doing with your family i do hope you’re safe from the Covid?
