I suppose people could say it is lonely, however loneliness is a state of mind where you can be surrounded by people but feel lonely as you do not have anyone you feel connected to. These monks may be alone much of the time but they know there are others like them and see them from time to time which gives them a sense of community and belonging; how many of us can say that.

When you realise the world has no more surprises, you lose interest in it, there's nothing to go back to, that's when your mind turns inwards and start soul searching, or the non existence of soul. And monk hood become deeply conducive to such a journey, some realise this young, others in their middle or old age, and some of us never. The later is too caught up in this life ......looking for pleasures in the five senses, yet never finding it.

What i liked about this monk was that he was very humanlike. He had a comforting presence. I have seen similar monk daily life videos are they're almost robotic, very perfect in everything they do - the straightest posture, few facial expressions etc. This monk crouched when writing, folded a blanket with his chin, and let out a sign, all very human characteristics. It was refreshing to see, so thank you.

Im in solitude all day and the truth is I love it. Everything old has vanished, news doesn't exist in this world, I am at peace and cleansing myself of the habits of the mind which I have picked up being raised in America. Ooo me toooooo! I live like this too. I love it. Because I am in a city sometimes I can’t help but ask myself.. am I normal? Is there something wrong with me?! But those thoughts come less and less. I wonder if I will ever move out of the city to somewhere more like in this video. I’m not sure. At the moment I love observing the buzz of the city. (It’s a small city by the seaside with Forrests about a 20 minute journey away

This shows how practice and daily living become an integrated whole both on and off the cushion. Bravo! Thank you so much for posting this! Many people here in the U.S. don’t know this and often ask me what life is like for a Buddhist monk. It is hard for them to conceive of this much less realize that it is possible to live this way. Wonderful video. As a Buddhist practitioner, I find this video refreshing, knowing that many other people also meditate and live a peaceful life. I meditate using Metta (loving-kindness or any other similar translation) to meditate to bring inner peace while sharing it with others. I also meditate with a focus on Compassion, the desire for well-being for those who are suffering; I meditate with uplifting/sympathetic joy, rejoicing with others for their accomplishments in life, and also with equanimity and balance in one's mind and actions. Meditating in this way has helped me immensely. I live life more peacefully. Homage to the Buddha.

I have ordained a Monk for 9 days about 3 years ago, I wish it lasted much longer but unfortunately 9 days is the only time I had. The temple I was at wasn't very strict but I had my own opinion of what Monk should be, No mobile phone, no TV, no computer, no money, never ask any relative or friends to visit me because I want complete peace, no entertainment books to read accept chanting books that I needed to learn but I hardly did as I also believe that's not the true purpose of being a Monk. We woke up around 4:30 am and start doing arms round at 5:00 am. There's no telling how my feet were killing after nearly 2 hours of walking bare feet on sharp rocks. We didn't put all the food in one bowl as Monk should but some did and I tried it once.
After morning meal all the Monk gather in the temple where we spend about 1-hour chanting and meditating together. I can't believe how peaceful it was despite how many times you have to fight the legs cramp.
Than each Monk return to their tiny sleeping quarters/dwelling to clean exactly how this Monk did in the video. Sweeping leaves were actually my favorite as it is a form of meditation.
Monks only do one arms around per day which is in the morning but comes midday all the Monk gather in the gathering hall where villagers come and offer foods to Monk. The food wasn't actually for the Monk as their first intended but Thai people believe Monk acts like a middle man who can chant and deliver them to their loved ones that past away and Monk consume the physical foods after the chanting.
After lunch, Monk supposes to meditate alone in any form they prefer, mine was walking into the forest and just sit there meditating under a tree until 5:00pm the Monks gather in the temple to perform secondary group chanting along with the nuns sometime villagers would join us.
For 9 days was the most peaceful time of my entire life of 30 years.

I was told new ordained Monk first public chanting probably be at a funeral and couple of days later it was. The funeral always take place at the temple and it was after 9, I had to walk alone in the dark to get to funeral monument and there I was, sitting at the end of a roll closes to the coffin. Everything they do involves continuous gentle exercise, and keeps you fitter in a more natural and healthy way. In the West it feels necessary to "hit the gym" because little of the daily routine requires much effort, but living in the way the monks do is like a continuous, slow workout, which keeps you very strong and healthy but not necessarily "ripped", because that isn't real necessary to live well, and might actually go against it

    Several things I notice,
    1. After cleaning toilet , hope he showered. It's not hygienic to carry on, but he might have done it in private.
    2. Hearing so many birds calls are soothing and still I have found that its does not disturb my meditation process. On the contrary, If I were to hear 2 people talking even at a distance its distracts and send a bad vibration towards me and breaks my rhythm. Same with flow of the water @09:05 it does not disturb the mental vibrations
    3. Rustic setting is awesome, but Thailand is one hell of a humid place, if you are not born there its very difficult to get adjusted to. It's like living in Canada which is the exact opposite, where summer literally last 2 months.
    4.Monetary setting is beautiful.
    5. In Buddhist, monks can chose to return to normal life and again revert. Many other religions do not allow that as monk hood is the final stage of life, if you are not ready, better do what one is good at and not venture into it.

Hi Nick, I appreciate the disciplined routine. It helps me remember to stick to my roots as living in a westernized community becomes chaotic. Keep up with the great content. Also, with all due respect he is the cutest young monk I have ever seen 😮🍊
    Best,
    Dani

This video had me feeling much desire for the simplicity of life to return again. I was trying to put myself in his position, and just seeing how life was a moment to moment thing for him, I felt happy seeing it. Much grief came up when his hair was being cut because of my experiences with feeling like I had to cut my hair "military style" as my dad would say. And getting a constant haircut would definitely re-open those wounds for me, I had grief relative to the fact that it was happening and the fact that he was able to let go of it so easily and not give the haircut much meaning, I cant really imagine someone getting a haircut like this and not having grief come up for them at least once in a while, but I do believe it is possible.

I come back to this video often. Being with him in the environment reminds me of the calm that can be. Would be awesome if you had an asmr microphone next time so you could capture the sounds too. I think the audio brings a lot of calm with it also. Thanks for sharing Nick.

Buddhist teachings influenced me immensely in my life. I am a follower of Buddha. I went through many difficulties in my life and lost hope. But I accepted that and overcome it without hurting anyone.
Every problem we've, just experience that in your mind and the solution lies in it.

How Beautiful💖. These extraordinary monks are living an ordinary life . We might think from here that this life is very easy but it is as difficult or even more than our life . These monks will be reaching their goal 10 × faster than an ordinary person because of only their company . 💖Sangham sharanam gacchami💖
