    I love this video! I train in BJJ and we always learn at least one self defense move. Many of these throws I have learned and of course the arm bars. :)

    Still inspiring after all these years and views, (personally anyway). Just showed it to a girlfriend of mine and she's hyped to join an Academy in Washington state. So yeah. Thanks for all your efforts to emphasize self defense and Jits as an art.

    The Gracie Academy standard is so high - believe me, you won't find better Jiu-jitsu than this anywhere. Grandmaster Helio's techniques done PERFECT. (A perfect adjustment for those of you in the family) haha

    This girl is amazing. She tosses him around like a ragdoll. She could have easily killed him in several instances, such as at 1:04. I love how she just effortlessly picks him up and throws him to the ground at 1:07 too.

    cool, I like it! There's some Japanese Jiujutsu, Judo and even Aikido type defences there. That, mixed with superior ground work, these students would be awesome!

    Tell me something just for curiosity. Most of the assaults done against women are done by more then one person. In that context, how can you apply bjj against two guys?

  • @jujutsu9
    @jujutsu9 11 лет назад +2

    Roy seems to be a bit confused. Police officers and combat soldiers not only attest to the effectiveness of these techniques but spend big bucks to learn these exact moves demonstrated in this video. The Gracies and the Valente Brothers regularly teach military and law enforcement. Krav Maga is based on aggressiveness and overwhelming your opponent. For women who are physically weaker this usually will not work. GJJ on the other hand relies on leverage so that a smaller person can use it.

      Krav (the legit)was developed for use against different size,different age and even different sex.
      Both styles can work.Even more if you know how to combine them!

    I'm still skeptical of some of the techniques. Like the two-handed front choke defense. Bringing the head and upper body forward is not the issue but rather eating a knee from the assailant when you bring your head down.

    • @ValenteBrothersTV
      @ValenteBrothersTV  6 лет назад +1

      Doug Szeto Thank you for your comment. After many years of dynamic practice with resistance we can attest to the effectiveness of the choke defense. With respect to your concern about the knee, firstly, if the assailant was preparing a knee strike he would hold the back of the head instead. The throat grip is not indicative of a knee strike. Secondly, the speed of action and most importantly the element of surprise won't give the attacker an opportunity to switch gears from a choke to a knee strike. If you are still not convinced you can always cover your face in order to mitigate the risk of a knee. However, from our experience, if the move is executed with the proper speed and dynamism, a knee strike should not be of any concern.

      Valente BrothersTV Thank you for your response! By the way, I mean all in respect when inquiring of the choke defense. I want to come down to your academy at some point. I was learning some of these techniques from one of your professors down in New Orleans. I was a poor student honestly and now wish I had taken it more seriously. I want to come and personally thank you for having a signed a blue belt dedicated to my baby brother who passed back in July of 2016. This was a wonderful demonstration video! Once again, thank you for your response!

    If you see Gracie Jiu-Jitsu simply as a set of techniques then of course you can't use those techniques against multiple attackers but if you see Gracie Jiu-Jitsu as a set of principles, then you will be safe in any scenario.

    great clip, shows that in bjj there are a lot of USELESS techniques taken from traditional jujitsu... 1:02 - just an example... and gun/knife defense - I am f*** speechless... 1:48 - the MOST dangerous thing you can teach

    • @waldomarek
      @waldomarek 10 лет назад +2

      it's funny people still think traditional martial arts have useless techniques. like in the past, people were just fighting for fun and not for their lives, thus creating "useless" techniques. any technique when pulled out of its context can seem useless. none of the techniques you learn anywhere should be performed exactly the way you're taught. a "useless" technique, through modification or not, can still be useful, it just depends on the circumstances (eg. situation, yourself and/or opponent). also, sometimes having a "useless" solution is better than having none.

    • @streetwiseguitar5113

    And the ground many times is not an option. So if you don't know the ground you might get beat up there. Before you criticize something, study it and learn.

  • @MrJustinTheory

    Bjj is not against two guys. But one person that did bjj use it as selfdefence against two people. He was choking one guy and the other guy was kicking the bjj-guy in the head. Apparently he managed to take those kicks on his head untill the other guy got choked out. After finish choking him, I assume he then stood up to face the other guy.
    IMO, I see bjj as wrestling - but with chokes. You can pin a person down and control him if you do bjj/wrestling. Is it dangerous to pin a guy? YEPP! RUN!!

  • @rikiwiki

    Obviously you don't understand the principles of leverage, its a simple physical thing that can make you take advantage of your opponent. Try stepping into one of the academies, you'll get more than your money is worth.

    It can help you to stay on your feet if one of the attackers decides to take you down and rape you. Also, since most of the assaults done against women are done in grappling range, women that are trained in BJJ or any other grappling art can use the moves they are taught to defend themselves. They will know how to break their opponent's grip, throw him on his head or simply choke him the fuck out.

      Not every case of gun violence is a robbery. Ever heard of crime of passion, for example? If the perpetrator is attacking you not for your money, but instead for hate, and he's determined to kill you, it might be safer to react.

    I think YOU are closed minded. If you think this is meant as the end all of a situation you missed the point. Martial Arts, including Jiu-Jitsu is meant to make you prepared to face situations such as above, It gives you an edge. Constant repetition of the above makes it a reflex and puts you in a better spot if confronted. Can someone be killed still while performing this? Yes. But just the same if you don't. Why not have that edge. A fighting chance.

  • @JoeyMcPeace
    @JoeyMcPeace 11 лет назад

    The simple truth is that you simply don't know what you're saying. If you think that strength, size or gender plays a factor with these techniques then you ARE wrong. You are absolutely wrong. These are the exact techniques you will need to win a street fight. You can also get lucky and beat someone up with no skill. So, the other guy is correct - be open minded and watch some videos from the gracie academy - but watch the whole lesson because this is super important.

    Thats why we have TRAINING so that they will have the best reaction to assault. IN GJJ they teach that the women use these techniques to defend and immediately escape. I rather have my women possess a mediocre skill in self defense than nothing at all.

    As much as I like jiu-jitsu,in my point of view the demo that you see here is far from being real and its a BIG shame that the gracie family including the valente brothers are trying to promote bjj this way! A women would NOT go to the ground in the street and will NOT try to throw ANY man to the ground unless she has an advantage over him!! the techniques are VERY old fashiond and not suited of highly stressed matter.A man will not be standing still not speaking of a very muscular man and drunk

    First thank you for your respond.
    Second: I do NOT agree with you. I do and AM a student of GJJ/BJJ for many years an X- IDF topunit soldier and police associate and working in security for few years. also a krav maga istructor and FMA student and clasical japanese jujutsu black belt form japan. I DO criticize the way the teach the army and think they teach the WRONG stuff. alot of the BEST comando and police teams the world that I know do NOT learn this.
