Jiu Jitsu here at Valente Brothers Guatemala made me a better person, putting aside the self-defense techniques, I believe the mental tools based on its philosophy is where you find the true benefit of jiu jitsu. Really enjoy watching the Gracies and the Valentes talk Jiu Jitsu. Ryron and Rener are entertaining and casual, Guido and Pedro are serious and intellectual. All of them are awesome.
I remember very well my teenage years in Rio. Constant fear of what the "juijiteros" ( he who practices Jiu Jitsu) would be up to. It is very beautiful to see what jiu jitsu is today... worldwide. Keep the great work. Oss!
Hello Gui. I just started learning Jiujitsu a few weeks ago at my university. I am both proud and humble to join such a wonderful family. I want to follow the whole lifestyle. Not just the techniques but the philosophy and morals. Thank you for this video!
I am at 10 minutes in and had to pause I am simply blown away I have tremendous respect for you two men and don't take that lightly from what I've been herring you guys say you earned it. What you guys have just talked about is how I have been feeling and talking about alot of the Jui-jitsu systems here in CA. Me being a mixed-martail artists coming from a traditional martial arts back round it really has bothered me the way I see alot of the people conduct their selves in these Jiu-Jitsu gyms.
This is just fantastic! I am of Japanese decent and I studied both Aikido and Judo. I've always believed that martial arts when properly taught makes its students better people, not just better fighters. I agree completely with the philosophy you present here. Thank you for teaching the true way of the warrior and not just fighting techniques.
This is what real Jiu-Jitsu is about. A complete martial art that creates a lifestyle and community regardless of age or ability. Thank you Valente Brothers!
I wish more people had the attitude of these guys especially the older generation of Gracies who are primarily responsible for all the negative connotations of BJJ that exist today.

The ideas for me are correct. The real challenge is how do you format to include the spiritual side. How is that taught. Informally without a blueprint can lead to some confusion. Mastering the mind is part of what I teach via basic concepts of breathing, enjoying the experience and more. To systematize training the mind is difficult. I love the opportunity to instruct my students to understand the mental side.

This issue isn't only limited to Jiu-Jitsu, it happens in all martial arts. The tradition and history of any type of martial arts is important. I study and help teach Isshinryu, growing up I saw really good attitudes and really bad attitudes. Both attitudes start with the instructors, I see martial arts as a very beautiful thing. The school I study at really focuses on compassion for yourself and others.
Frank Lurz, who teaches classical saber believes that new students learn best from private classes. When they understand the basics, they can go to the group classes. There is a video of one of these private lessons here on youtube.

So that even if I go to a jiu jitsu school that practices mostly sport I can still keep the fundamentals in mind and do specific training for myself

The hierarchy of the military might be based on respect, like BJJ. However, there are many women in the military that are raped, while serving, by fellow male soldiers, not to mention the raping of innocent civilian women. I'm assuming this video was a response to the Lloyd Irvin rape fiasco. You should be more careful with your analogies.
