      Hell just rebuild it with built interanls(500usd and whats 500 usd on top of a transmission that even used is 2400 (I bought a brand new one from drift motion for 3400 after all options selected) and your r154 will hold damn near anything you throw at it it just matters how you drive it if your banging gears launching all the time your gonna break things but if your chill with it it'll last 60-70k miles easily and reliable

    I remember when I had a MK3 Supra, being on the forums and seeing Duane's car in magazine's was a HUGE thing. Everyone knew about MK4s but MK3s were a pretty nice car as well. Glad he is still representing the MK3 community well. Respect!

    This is literally the perfect mk3. I bow down to you Duane. And I totally agree, as wicked as the mk4 is, there's just something about the mk3 that makes it look and feel special.
    I could only hope to get to that level one day with my mk3. Maybe a smaller turbo just to remove abit of lag, I'd gladly sacrifice some top end HP for that. Or if I wanted to go flamboyant, I'd use the HKS T51R. Although laggy, it is by far the most intoxicating sounding turbo there is as far as I'm concerned. That paired with the glorious burble and scream of a 7M, and you've got yourself a symphony.

      Go for a ball bearing turbo then the 7m must haves (arp's ,metal hg etc) then get a better intake manifold (front facing like the jz's) ,motec ,hks 264 or 272's ,fuel and if u have the money a Lil head work. Then do brakes (baaaad fade over 100 on stock) even just drilled n slotted rotate make a big dif if your on a budget and then later on mk4 brakes or some brembo's and you will have a nasty mk3. The mk3 has soul and after owning both a 89 and a 98 I still felt myself drawn to the mk3 plus u get more respect for doing a mk3 being they take a Lil work and love to get them really kicking ass after overcoming a few factory flaws unlike the mk4 that's quick outta the box n 400rwhp with I,e,bc

      +IIproductionsII The mk3 looks like a late 90's car but it was designed in the mid 80's, it's ahead of it's time. It combines edges, straight lines and curves. The mk2 has only straight lines and edges, while the mk4 has only curves. It's not random that aftermarket mk4's body kits, panels, add ons,etc. have straight and edgy lines to make it look better ;-)
      Anyway, I like all Supra generations.

      What rear diff are you running and clutch master? I heard after a certain power level, these fail and I want to avoid that since I am also going for power as well

    • @lockjawjak
      @lockjawjak 29 дней назад

      @@TheMrFlyBoy18 The G series A70 diffs are pretty bulletproof, maybe the spider gears in the opens arent but I have never heard of any "known issues" with them. The JZA70 torsens are deffinitely known to break around 500whp so avoid them. I have a KAAZ 2 way in mine now and its good for more power than the 7M will make probably lol. Never heard of the clutch masters failing either, apart from age but you can just rebuild them with new seals very easily

    4th gen owner here, mine is a 98 6speed turbo but the styling of the 3rd gen and even the 2nd gen I have always loved. My older brother had a white 85 p type 7mgte swapped in for his tired 275k miles 5m-ge and he currently has an 87 turbo with 60k miles, upgraded ct-26. This white car is immaculate, congrats on such a bad ass car.

    I see Duane every week along with either the Supra or the Hayabusa. He's a great guy to be around and knows his stuff. I sure know the car scares the shit out of me haha. As a mk4 owner, the best thing about seeing Duanes car was that it wasn't a typical setup, I too expected a 1jz the first time I saw it. I love the mk3's just as much after also having a 240sx.

    • @Justjeepingadventures
      @Justjeepingadventures 9 лет назад +2

      Stock engine can withstand 400 np. I've seen upwards of 7 as well. However, you will need some supporting mods so nothing is "cheap".

    • @pens2410

      ***** when i say cheap i mean like i dont want to spend 50,000right away on the engine. So if i get the stock engine to 500hp lets say how much maintence am i looking at

    • @pmodd
      @pmodd 9 лет назад +8

      Chris Hansen I too had a MK3/MA70 Supra years ago, and assuming you have decent compression and the rings aren't boned, they're quire reliable. For a stock MA70 I would strongly recommend doing the following:
      - Install Altima or whatever thermo fans and seal them up to the radiator, then remove the viscous coupling fan. The couplings can fail and just free-wheel, not to mention they do nothing much when stationary.
      - Remove the EGR bung on the stock thermostat housing and install a normally-closed temperature switch from a Toyota Camry or similar (you might not have that car in your country)
      - Wire dual single pole-double-throw relays to engage the fans when the temperature switch goes open-circuit, but not be powered with Accessories off. If the switch fails you can just unplug it to turn the fans on as a backup.
      - Install a new water pump as insurance
      - Install a new thermostat for insurance
      - Remove your radiator and flush/reverse-flush
      - Change the rocker cover gaskets, plugs and front main seal. All have or will fail on a 7M in no time.
      - Re-torque the head bolts. The 7M is known to blow headgaskets because the FSM originally listed the torque specs for a kevlar head gasket, but at the last minute Toyota changed gasket material without updating the manual. Weak head bolt torque results in gaskets lifting and blowing out, so you definitely want to know where your engine is at and ensure the torque is correct.
      - Consider venting the rear of the bonnet. Cylinder 6 is the one that failed most times I saw a blow 7MGE in a Supra or Cressida, as it overheats before the others. Something to keep an eye on, and it's the reason some people shim their bonnet latch (to allow air to vent). Use a magnehelic gauge (bought or diy) to check whether the rear is a high pressure zone when driving first, otherwise it won't vent air.
      - FULLY DEGREASE THE ENTIRE ENGINE BAY. DO IT THE MOMENT YOU BUY THE CAR LOL. A clean engine bay allows you to track oil leaks, so it's worth spending 4 hours doing it.
      Once you've done that, maintenance is normal, as these are baseline preventative measures. Some people check the head bolt torque settings each year, but in theory you don't have to. You might also want to check the bucket shim clearances with a feeler gauge, but that need not be done immediately.

    Something I totally, completely forgot to mention some time back, is that their is a '90 MK3 Supra, a red one, somewhere in a dealership brand NEW with only 92 kilometers on it for sale for $70,000.00. It came out on a Yahoo auto news some time back. It has the 7MGTE. Mark 3's are starting to get very expensive for some time now, they are appraising in cost. $70 GRAND WOW!!! (I now have 3 MK3's 2 with 7MGTE and 1 with 7MGE). Sweet!!! I think I have the SUPRA fever lol hahah...I'll be getting a MK4 soon too...SUPRA PASSION!!! OH YEAH THE FTHS AND FT-1 ARE AWESOME TOO...

    This is pure awesomeness....the MK3 supra was my first car, lots of hard times with that 7M, 3 BHG's, 1 rod through the block (oil starvation). I still loved it, I finally went with an HKS MHG, Arp studs, had the head sent out to be machined and decided to mill the block myself......I didnt have that advice to attach the timing cover before milling it.....was A sad day. Im happy to see that people still mess around with these, they are awesomeeee cars and im going to build one another one soon. Great production by the way!!!

    I was going to make a traditional comment after seeing the opening with the lack of a plate and that drag chute that I would rather have less power and make it a road going car.
    However, later in the video you made me eat that comment and take my hat off to the guy.

    500hp is cute? 750+ is ridiculous. If I was specifically looking to build a track day car or drag racer than I might incline to go to that level. Point is he was going half throttle and having fun so therefore he could have half the horse power and go full throttle and have just as much fun. Its all about the sensation of performance.

I've built a lot of them and for their time it was a very well built engine. I'm also partial to the MK3 and that will never change. the R154 is a very stout transmission. Mine I built with MC parts and holds high power with ease. Just like this owner stated. Great Supra!

    To this day, as much as I love the 240sx and Skyline models, this Mk3 will always hold a special place in my heart. The first car I was ever handed the keys to was my fathers 1987 Mk3 Turbo.
    Now let me explain, the car was not in particularly great shape. It was 1999/2000 so it had some age. But there has never been another car which makes me feel that same way by merely glancing at one.
    I've always wanted my own but never have been in the position to really go out and purchase one. They are stupidly expensive projects here in the USA.
    Thank you very much for this video. It was a serious pleasure to watch and a subscriber was made.

    The numbers/power from 1035hp/1036hp, 950+ ft lbs. of torque to the wheels. When upgraded to the even bigger, better, Turbo numbers/power goes up to 1200hp-1300hp, 1000-1100+ or more ft lbs. of torque to wheels. Basically whatever numbers/power your cars put down at the wheels, it's putting out more(sometimes a lot more) at crank usually. Their is exceptions, but usually that's the way it is according to tech/gearhead school...

    Hi Duane glad to see you still have your mkiii. This is Richard I don't know if you remember me but about 12 years ago or so when I was a young teenager with my first car being a mkiii turbo and first project car I had posted pictures of your car in supraforums from one of the car magazines your car was featured in. I talked to you on the phone and remember how excited you were asking questions and wanting to know what else was in the magazine. I know because you drove your car all the way from canada for the shootout and canada didnt recieve thier copy of the magazine on the news stand until a few days later after the U.S. At that time you were running carbonfuberfx i believe it was called and offered me a discount lol. I wish I still kept my mkiiii after watching this video of you breaking the 1k hp mark. Congratulations Duane, hope all is good with you. Now I own a 1990 mazda miata I am building for autocross, miss that 7M Power though.

  • @dickjohnson4780
    @dickjohnson4780 8 лет назад +2

    In school they say you lose 20%-30% power from the crank to the wheel(s), however they are some that say it's only 17 %-22% either way you lose some power. On the next video where Duane sells his MK3 to his brother Dean he explains how the white MK3 Supra is NOT at it's full potential yet, it can be upgraded to a even BIGGER TURBO which can produce 1200hp-1300hp at the wheels, which means the MK3 is producing a lot more then 1300hp at the crank...perhaps 1400hp-1500hp. The torque is 950+ to the wheels, but the upgraded bigger turbo increases those numbers tremendously probably 1,000-1100+ or more ft lbs. of torque to wheels.

    I love ALL Supras. MK1, MK2, MK3, MK4 and the new FT1. My father use to have a MK2 Celica Supra. OMG it was sooo fast that's when I knew and understood how outstanding Toyota Supra's are!! My uncle had an MK1 Celica Supra with 3m. It was so beautiful!!! He would detail and wax it every weekend. He would spend hours on it, ALL day. LOL. Plus my uncle's were Toyota techs, so I would spend a lot of time with them and on Toyota's. I grew up around cars. I'm a car guy. Been around them ALL my life. I own 3 MK3 Supra's. 2 are Tubros, 1 is N/A. Even the Naturally/Normally Aspirated version is very, very, very, fast, not to mention the turbo ones. They're too fast. The MK3 is an outstanding car. Everyone loves the mk4, however the mk3 is also a SUPER OUTSTANDING car as well. I just fell in love with the MK3(it's beautiful and fast), besides the MK4. Although the MK2 was my first love. 1985 mk2 black on black. Gorgeous!!! I didn't want Duane to sell his white Supra. I was relieved to know he sold it to his brother, it stays in the family lol. Duane's Supra is SOOO beautiful!!! It's probably the nicest MK3 I think I've EVER seen!!! Not to mention the strongest and fastest(Not only1036HP but as much as 1200-1300hp if not mistaken). Although their is another white one in Japan(w/7M) that does 8.6 seconds on the 1/4 mile, actually 1000 meters. Which is a bit less then 1/4 mi. Their is another mk3, red one that has 1300-1400hp or more but its has a 2jz instead of 7MGTE. Their is also another red one with 1261hp but with 2j. I love all Supra motors. From 5m to 2JZ. My dad's had a 5M engine. Sooo fast!! It would chirp the tires 1, 2 and 3 gear, 4 gear I think you were doing mock 12 lol and you still had 5 gear. I have been in a MK4 with 6 gears WOW!! Their is MK4's with 1500-1600HP. However their is something extremely special about the MKIII. UNIQUE. Oh another thing for those that say their are Lambo's with 2000hp, well the white E. Kanoo titan MKIV Supra has 2000HP and another one with 3,000HP that does 5sec's on the 1/4 mi.!!! I haven't ever seen a Lambo do that. I love lambo's too but Supra's only have 6 cylinders not 12. Also for MK3 haters, eat heart out!!! Duane proves that MK3's are badass car too!!! I wish Duane the very best!!!!!!!!! In everything he does, specially with Supra's, most specially with MK3's. (It would be nice to see him build an MK2.)
