My first new car was a 260 Z when I got a job as a teacher in 1975. I upgraded to a 280 Z before heading to grad school.Marriage etc. prompted me to sell it in 85 or so, but the memories are great.
Good job Sung. I really enjoy Jay's folksiness and humor on this show. I think though, that he was taken aback by someone who has as much presence as he does. I like the car. The steak, chicken and squats comment killed me. Sung, I hope to see you and more of your projects. Jay, as always, thanks for putting this show online!
this is almost a perfect template for what I want to do. I once owned a 1979 280zx, finest ride ever, best sound... the feelings and emotions this car created were perfection. Got the green light to sell my acura and build another Z in the next five years. just gotta watch a bunch of these and get all ramped up about it.
Sung, mate, you're great. The dedication and enthusiasm from you and your team is what makes this a great car. And you're the only person I've seen to get the better of Jay. Wonderful passion you have. And as for the Maverick, bring it on.
Hey Jay. I miss my 240z days. From 1976 to 1983 I restored a total of 76, 70-73 240z's to put myself through eight years of college and optometry school. Sold all of them for exactly $4000.00 without dickering, since my restorations were perfect! That's more than they cost new! I wish I still had one.
I totally got the joke about the japanese girl on a steak and chicken diet who does squats.... and even how it applies to the car... GREAT reference haha.
The thing about Jay that always strikes me...he's just so personable and friendly. Hollyweird didn't ruin him and his great success never went to his head...he is literally just like a good neighbor....always wish the best for him.👍😁
Sung's 240z is quite literally the greatest 240/280z ever. RB26, widebody, those insanely deep TE37's. Major props to him for creating an art piece. I remember seeing it somewhat rushed for SEMA some months ago. Looks more complete now and that's so awesome!
Gerald The TE37V's are made to go.with vantage cars hence the V in the name. But I do get what you mean lol. The TE is everywhere in many forms, forever played out haha.

I had a 73 Datsun 240Z. It was dark blue with a white interior. It was my second attempt to buy a Z, the first one was orange with a black interior. It was the first Japanese car I had driven with room! I'm a big guy, over six feet and 250 pounds. I added the dealer air dam, known for scrapping driveways and channeling water to the brakes, the rear window louver, which really kept the interior comfortable in the hot California sun, and the bullet side mirrors. All common additions. Truly loved that car, but slow next to my roommate's Sunbeam Tiger. P.S.: I forgot. A Wink mirror. Talk about vintage.
Both speaking and on the road! I feel a lot of those cars are part of the crew. There's obviously the minivan with all the equipment on it, but I see a large grey truck and the silver Mercedes a lot, so I believe they are almost blocking traffic so Jay can wander and jet ahead when they create breaks in the traffic for him.
Best body kit I've seen, best exhaust note for the class of car on your channel, and oh, Jay about those brakes, I suggest you eat some chicken and do some squats then it won't seem like it needs a booster. LOL. Mr Kang seems like a very nice person and I enjoy his acting. Thanks for the blast from the past.
Steven Mccullough funny, but he said they're Wilwoods and not track ready yet. That tells me they're underboosted and they're working out the bugs. Will probably need to go up to the system from the 300z.
Yet another car I'd love to build. This one's a sweet rise with a hi-revving straight six that's non-turboed. Congrats on a nicely done rest-rodded 240-Z.
I have seen this car in person and at the time I did not know Sung Kang was the owner... but what I could tell was all the work was TOP NOTCH and that a lot of resources were put into it.
Now that's a nice mod. It works with the body lines, fits the original car. Looks nice. I still think remaking the panels so there is no rivets looks way better but that's just personal.
I know EXACTLY what he means. He wants his cute little Asian girl to have the curves and muscle definition of a western girl. And what's wrong with that?.....NOTHING!

My first new car was a 260 Z when I got a job as a teacher in 1975. I upgraded to a 280 Z before heading to grad school.Marriage etc. prompted me to sell it in 85 or so, but the memories are great.
I love that fact that the F&F crew are actually car people. This is my new favorite Z for sure. Right next to the Fairlady ZO6 #RememberTheBuster
Sung Kang has a good taste in cars, very impressive machine.
I personally like the upgrade they did to the car. The 240 doesn’t look bad stock, but man, that thing looks good.
Sung kang isn't eating on this film!
Luis E I see what you mean lol
Thats so true, where's his bag of chips.
Got to stay slim to get more movies.
Sung kang also isn't playing as a recovering smoker in this
@@XqeDiosxqe if it's a girl hot cheetos
TE-37s always look good, but they look soooooo good with some dish.
couldn't agree more.
Sung Kang seems like such a cool dude.
Burke Sellers Ik he really does look chill
I love the way it sounds.
Jay was kinda scaring me with his lane changes there.
but can you even be mad at him? lol
think he needs a booster seat.
that`s because he can`t see the road!
He p's like even driving in the middle of the lane at times
look at Jay go just cutting people off on the interstate
And crossing solid lines, unsignalled lane changes, pretty much everything you can do wrong.
the weak should fear the strong, move over cattle!
I thing Jay's Malaysian ... they don't know what the white lines are for either ;-) ^v^
Probably couldn’t see being so low and having those mirrors lol
Jay dont need no turn signal. !!!
Sung, mate, you're great. The dedication and enthusiasm from you and your team is what makes this a great car. And you're the only person I've seen to get the better of Jay. Wonderful passion you have. And as for the Maverick, bring it on.
I remember seeing Datsun cars in Chicago as a little kid. I love these cars! Good job on the build too
Crazy that when it was new it was under 4 grand. I'll bet this car as it is now is worth
80 grand.
What a beautiful car
Extremely interesting to hear the RB26 without the turbos...
Sung Kang is completely awesome
Dam this guy is even cooler in real life.
I totally got the joke about the japanese girl on a steak and chicken diet who does squats.... and even how it applies to the car... GREAT reference haha.
+Troy G Can you explain it please?
Thanks, I understood that much. The way I read your comment I thought there would be some deeper meaning.
joeddamage1
nope.... simple meaning... he made the car less skinny and more thick and sexy.
right. that went right over Jays head
+datsunmadman that was a man... sorry to break it to you... never trust those Vietnam women... lol
I'm surprised Han wasn't eating a bag of chips during this segment.
it's because he is a smoker
The thing about Jay that always strikes me...he's just so personable and friendly. Hollyweird didn't ruin him and his great success never went to his head...he is literally just like a good neighbor....always wish the best for him.👍😁
Jay "We'll deal with yr fantasies after the show" 😂😂😂
It's HANNNN OMG
From Tokyo drift.
Sung's 240z is quite literally the greatest 240/280z ever. RB26, widebody, those insanely deep TE37's. Major props to him for creating an art piece. I remember seeing it somewhat rushed for SEMA some months ago. Looks more complete now and that's so awesome!
The greatest is IMSA one
That sound is intoxicating! Absolutely love it!
High comp RB26 w/ITBs in a Rocket Bunny 240z on genuine TE37's. I've just had a minor accident...
Ciaran Cargan no fucker you're supposed to keep the original L24 or L28
no fucker you're supposed to respect people's choices.
Ciaran Cargan no fucker I couldn't #WanganMidnight #DevilZ
As much as I love te37's, they definitely shouldn't be on a 70's car
Gerald The TE37V's are made to go.with vantage cars hence the V in the name. But I do get what you mean lol. The TE is everywhere in many forms, forever played out haha.
A 240Z at J's garage. Finally.
Now the Rotsun.
yes
Yes please!
+ThierryTheuns RoadKill's Datsun 240
Vax Buster
That's a 4.3L V6 masterpiece XD
There ya go
I have watched this at least 10 times in the last 6yrs and every time it's like the first beautiful
“You should drive the stock 240 sometimes. You should drive the stock 240 sometimes. You should drive the stock 240 sometimes.”
That’s what you hear being repeated.... huh 🤔 I couldn’t get “you know” out of my head after this video, car is sick though.
What a great show..Ive had three Zs but never a 240 or 1st generation..Looks & sounds amazing.
Sung seems like a good dude.
How cool is Sung? He's literally like one of my favorite people. And his personality in the movies is so much of his real self. Dude is just mad cool, I want to meet him.
Absolutely love this 240Z. My favorite part of this car is the super low seating position. Love it love it!!
Sang: "This car really represents the entire 240 community coming together."
Jay: "Did you drive it stock before changing everything?"
Then Jay uses ALL of the lanes without a care in the world.
The Sign on: The Rear-End! Holly-Wood T.V. Star, On-Board! :( ! I Was: Born in: Japan! I Lived In: Japan! With: All Due Respect Sir! You: Don't know: Fairlady Z! 240G, 260, 280, (2+2!), 432! :)
Saw this car in person at JCCS this year. So beautiful. They actually put the turbos back on
I had a 73 Datsun 240Z.
Love the sound of a well tuned straight 6.
Those cars are better than a million dollar car, that's because u put yourself into it, and u make people fall in love with it
This build is so amazing. Love it's NA and not turbo.
Jay Leno driving your ride is an accomplishment 🙌 all in itself.
There's Jay just cutting off everyone.
Andrew Martin you must be new here. Jay wanders all over the road. He probably literally owns a few of them.
Jay can literally do no harm, he just rocks...
Sure looks like a Liberty Walk treatment, huh?
Steven Mccullough You should hear a 280Z with either the 3.0 or 3.2 Rebello kits, and triple Weber carbs. It’ll change your mind for sure :)
Love how they kept this can naturally aspirated. It sounds so good.
So beautiful car 😍
could this Jay Leno garage series program provide close caption,? I m deaf and I would like to read what viewers is listen to this program thanks ,
Jason Gann RUclips has subtitkes on the video options
the auto subtitles suck a lot
MrBigboy1057 Not on this channel it doesn’t!
Jason Gann sorry
Sorry jason
Beautiful car and it sounds amazing. It’s hard to believe it’s from the 70s it looks like it could be a 2012 . Good job man and thank you jay Leno
+jimmy mushman I'm asian and I approve this message.
hes saying its odd and unheard of but looks amazing
Eat take away chicken as often as you can.The added steroids, and the process of evolution, will be your saviour.
+jimmy mushman Absolutely... I love Jay but he has such a seriously out dated, racist, politically incorrect, no idea grandpa sense of humour... WTF LOL! :-D
I'm Asian and I also approve this message
I had to glance at the date of this video again, because after seeing Sun Kang, I couldn't believe this was shot in 2016. I thought more like 2006 (Tokyo Drift). Sun Kang hasn't aged a day.
Brings back sweet memories. When stationed in Akizuki Japan, 84-86, I purchased a 74 Fairlady Z, from my boss who was PCSing. The car was Kilahmamgaro white, right hand drive of course, manual five speed slightly modified with perfmance mags and big fat rubber on the rears. My wife was often stopped for speeding while running this bad boy out in a 1/4 mile mountain tunnel on the island of Eta Jima near our place of work. The Japanese police were so taken aback by this gaigin women racing this hot car, they were totally flummoxed and sent her on her way only a warning. I got the calls later from my security chief :). What a gorgeous design and fun quotient off the charts. thanks Jay and Sung for this super video!
