    Have always loved the mk3 ,it's got soul and is a great looking car. I've owned both the 3 n 4 and aside from the 7m and its flaws (actually nasty n has most tq of all supra engines) I enjoyed and got a lot more respect in my mk3 bc it didn't come fast n get big power gains from just bpu, but I just really enjoyed how it was laid out n just the feel of it (Targa is great). It was also a bit of a sleeper until recently ,but I'll never forget the time I was on the hw and got tried by a kid driving his dad's brand new c5 z06 and after destroying him (was making around 640whp on 2nd 7m) and he pulls back up to me n asked me what kind of car it was ,n the look on his face when I told him it was an 85 camry sport edition with a bad vacuum leak was priceless lol

    • @bradyoung8197
      @bradyoung8197 7 лет назад

      Also I totally agree n build my cars like he stated ,by doing brakes n suspension first (especially the stock mk3 brakes are bad over 100mph). Gotta be able to handle the power n be able to stop but mk4 brakes with stainless braided lines complete with Brembo cross n slots did the trick nicely

    Have you tried to mod the 7m? Or went str8 to the 2jz? Cuz the 7m could've made that power..... Not hating it's just there is NO love for the 7m. Duane and I have stuck with the 7m and it hasn't failed us yet, so you should try it. And did this kid say the 7m was twin turbo from the factory???? That's funny. 7m has only been twin turbo once as far as I know and that was in 1989 when HKS twin turbo'd it and broke a few drag records back then, with the 7m revving over 10,500! With stock red line at 6700 rpm on the 87-89 7m's with the 6m crank and then 89-92 had the 7m crank so it was a few hundred rpm lower iirc... correct me if I'm wrong about the red line rpm on the 7m crank 7m's..

      Sounds like you arent aware of the differences between 7m and 2jz. 2jz head gasket is metal.. It handles WAY more power than the 7m gasket can. No difference going to a different type of gasket on a 2jz, because it would also be metal..

    Great review as always Marcus. There is a MK3 near my house that has been sitting in the driveway unused for over 12 years. I often think of approaching the owner....but so many projects and so little time and $$$

    Good clean low millage mk3s are expensive now days, around $10k..
    A facelift late model 91-92' mk3, manual trans., fully optioned, targa, etc, and properly JZ swapped (if someone wants to know what properly means, shoot me a pm), will retail around $18k+ now days... Good stuff ain't cheap.
    Now, project cars, no engine, bad engine, bad condition many miles, rust, N/As, autos,etc., yes you can find one for $1500-$2000 USD. Then restore it, rebuilt it, swap a 2JZ, new turbo kit, exhaust, fuel kit, make it a manual with an R154,new upgraded clutch, upgraded LSD, upgraded brakes, suspension, anti roll bars, new wheels,new tires, body shop, new upgraded cooling system, electronics, gauges, ecu, tuning, etc. you'll end up around $30k+ easily plus the car you got for $2000k...maybe more if you go with new brand name parts, you can do the math!

    The stock, non-ABS brakes can stop the mk3 in around 100ft if you don't lock up the wheels. They are definitely good up to 500whp.

    Like it has been said already, original 7M-GTE engine is 3.0 SINGLE Turbo.
    Twin-Turbo Mk3s are the JDM cars with 1JZ-GTE engine.
    You could also get the Mk3 without turbo at all as the 7M-GE.

      the jdm versions also came with a twin turbo 1ggte known as a ga70 mk3. the 1jz version is a jza70

    Ohh, there's room for a 1000 whp yet! Slightly bigger snail and another couple psi outta do it! He's already got the built bottom end. Hope that transmission holds up! Torque is a killer.
