@sailor81 probably not lol however the way I look at it someone else will have been over the moon 😅 I did see it come up for sale around 3 years ago and it had been repaired but rear end still had the marks and broken back light and it had beeb stood in a garage for years. It was fairly cheap so I got the funds together but someone beat me to it. Around a week after that it was back up for sale for much more and the new owner looked to have only washed it.
I dunno...Japanese can't match Europeans in engineering? That thing, and a lot of cars from and since that era, have a great engine, top-notch suspension and a balanced chassis. The modern GT-R's (R32 and later) had world's first really intelligent four-wheel-drive, sensing the driving situation of the car (understeer? oversteer?) and sending torque around the drivetrain to make it handle well and maximise the tire's grip. In my book, that's world class engineering. P.S. The 280 hp limit wasn't mandated by the Japanese government, it was an agreement between Japanese carmakers, like the 250 km/h limit from other carmakers.
In the 2000's the R33 was the ugly ducking no one wanted. The r32's were much more desirable. The r34 was king but was out of reach for most people price wise and they didn't depreciate much. (In Australia at least) I ended up buying a JZA supra. You could get TT automatic models for as little as $5000 as everyone wanted a manual. Even the NA manuals cost more than the TT auto's. Nissan please just remake this car to the tee
Purchased and imported my R33 brand new out of the wrapper. Almost 30 years later, and many hard miles she's as tight as a nun's rump.
The thumbnail has huge Bob Ross vibes 😂
That is a midnight purple 1 car
390HP Is Terminator category HP! And this was back in 93'?! 😮
I see this , then immediately need to watch Clarksons island
Great music choice! My favorite Lenny Kravitz song 😊
Well this aged like wine
two things that havent aged well on the F355, the steerings over assisted and the magnesium valves need to be redone and changed for something more stable, and have the recall with the fuel line done, which was a result of people cheapening out on the proper way to do engine outs
and apparently people say its slow,
the R33, just get it reupholstered in good new leather and foam and your fine
It's slow because the engine delivers 50hp less to the ground than what Ferrari claims even when new. And the whole interior looks dated. Still the 40v engine sounds absolutely heavenly.
@@Dimension2010 I thought that was the 360?
@@kavinskysmith4094 355 too. A Japanese car program tested it and it only produced 330hp. Also tested were 993 rs and 348, both almost managed 300.
@@Dimension2010 well that fits with tyler hoovers car, he had a 348 and it was only putting out about 275 horses, one of the early TS models
so if you think about that, that explains why in period they were like, OH ITS SO MUCH BETTER, a 75 horsepower increase, that's marketed up to be 115
and his car mechanic had a 308 with a dicky cam in it, an early pre QV car and its putting out 177 horses
about the same as my old 5 cylinder from 12 years ago, and that was a 2.5
and it rev'd to about 6 or 7 grand too, like my old 5 banger basically offered me 12 years of reliable service, with the same performance and figures as a ferrari 308 just in a much larger package
although if the weight figures are true, it might have been a 1 to 1 lol
and my car had metal bumpers lol
I would love to have that car. They are actually the holy Grail of cars.
Now is the time to jump! There's some pretty solid 33s with decent spec going for sub 50k
Fun fact: Enid Blyton’s *The Little Black Doll* was Quentin Tarantino’s inspiration for the character of Marcellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction.
I'm surprised they didn't demonstrate what it could do on a track - or was that not a segment on old TG (?)
I miss my skylines 😢
Best car I ever owned by far.
Would have one over a maclaren P1 any day
Everyone talks about the R32 and the R34 (and I understand why), but I always liked the R33.
R33 Vspec GTR and Lenny Kravitz playing GREAT MIX
What is the name of this beautiful music used
Really couldn’t import to uk? Steering wheel is already on the right! Also uk is where you can by a TVR which is way less compliant safety regulation wise
Yes you could import back in the days, It wasnt officically from nissan uk until sometime later.
What's that, a Nissen ? Gotta check this out. Do they come as Convertibles with a Diesel Hybrid ?
Godzilla , the king of JDMs
Had several, the last had 997hp, it didnt do mpg but rather gallons per mile.
“Every single owner tweaks it up a bit” yep a bit lmao
Old but gold😢
Nissan missed out on so much revenue by not importing the R32, 33, and 34 to the United States.
THIS and the Nissan GTR are my favourite ’Street Cars’ in its day destroyed a lot of high end super cars on performance
The bit on it costing a mil not being worth it, jeremy is yotally right. In 2024 we can see how much most if not all big names drop on advertisement budgets. Imagine how much they could move to development if they stopped doing adverts vying for people attention and just surprise people with something new
My Dream Car..
Same, I cant wait for the day I buy a F355 Berlinetta in rosso maranello
@@proxigenated I'm sure you'll look great in it.
@rosstee Thank you, may you get ahold of your favourite car also
he is completely right about Nissan's money spending and its still applicable today, just give us a car Nissan we don't want to see stupid advertising on your ugly juke or boring x-trail
did Clarkson say the GTr was the first to break the 8min time on the nürburgring?
i though the C5 corvette was the first car the break the 8 min mark
"You can...in a Nissan"
Back when Japan was king. The 80’s and 90’s is when Japan was on top. Cars, anime, hifi systems.
I love that they're using the Lenny Kravitz track gave me gt flashbacks
I wonder if Gran Turismo 3 was paying homage to this clip by playing “Are You Gonna Go My Way” as the opening song.
And DECADES later, the world FINALLY got the GT-R
Back at that time I went for a business meal, and the subject of dream cars came up.
I said a Nissan Skyline.
They looked at me and said your dream car is a Nissan…..they obviously had no idea what it actually was, but obviously thought I was an A hole😂😂
And I actually nearly got one as well but went down the Evo route instead.
One of my favourite cars uve ever owned and one of my biggest mistakes at the time of owning it I had a 850 T5r manual and a fiat coupe 20v turbo so 3 amazing cars. Unfortunately the skyline was my vehicle of choice when i was off my face on ketamine and god knows what else. Obviously resulting in me writing it off. It wasn't that bad and was easily fixed but I just parked it on the drive of my ex partners mums. Eventually selling it for £150 yep. One hundred and fifty frigging pounds.
hope you had a good night with the 150 quid at least
@sailor81 probably not lol however the way I look at it someone else will have been over the moon 😅 I did see it come up for sale around 3 years ago and it had been repaired but rear end still had the marks and broken back light and it had beeb stood in a garage for years. It was fairly cheap so I got the funds together but someone beat me to it. Around a week after that it was back up for sale for much more and the new owner looked to have only washed it.
15 years ago 30k got me one, now it's worth 130k.
Does anyone else remember watching this episode on TV?
Yes
Great review!
I kid you not
