I set fire stick to my home screen, it's much better and less cluttered, I am not a lover of a few things on this TV but managed to disable them, the first thing is the TPC and GSR setting that can only be accessed with a service remote through the on start button, keying in 0413 this takes off that auto dimming that the TV does annoyingly if a film is static for over 90 seconds or if a film is very dark for a long period of time, this will stop the TV from dimming even further, also the peak brightness setting on the tvs main menu is a bit deceiving and from what I've experimented with, the peak brightness will play a huge part on how you view content, experts say to set it to high and never really touch on this feature, it maybe the most accurate switched to high, and it is the default setting however Iam finding it switched to high on Dolby vision content extremely bright, if like me, you like to watch most films in the evening so you may want to play around with this, try switching it off or setting it to low, also colour default at 50 for Dolby Vision appears too bright and too colourful for Dolby Vision, so try peak brightness on low with a colour setting of 36. Experts also say to adjust the oled pixel brightness slider depending on your rooms environment but this will not prevent eye fatigue, this only ever so slightly and gradually dampens the picture without loss of details, it is actually the peak brightness setting that will make the night and day difference, it's what will put the glare on for certain films and also remove it if its not your thing and you prefer a more natural look to your content, OK so for HDR content the peak brightness is OK set to high however there are a few films that just look terrible with this set to high, Ghostbusters 2 and Close Encounters of the third kind, you may want to switch peak brightness to off for your eyes to enjoy it comfortably, there might be a few more in my collection that I may have to tinker with but leaving it on high for the most part is advisable, such films like Die Hard and speed in HDR set to high peak brightness and most hdr discs look pretty good, otherwise these much older films that don't peak much illuminous or contrast will just look flat and dull, I have had the G1 for a couple of months now and Iam now satisfied with my settings, for those of you that might be interested I have provided them below, have a play and see what you think, trust your eye not what's fed to you via an experts bit of equipment, I take preference over what is accurate,
    SDR settings for Blu ray
    Oled pix bright: 68
    Contrast: 85
    Brighness: 55
    Colour: 36
    Warm: 36/50
    Peak brightness: Off
    HDR setting:
    Oled pix bright: 75
    Contrast 85
    Brighness 60
    Colour 45
    Warm 50
    Peak brightness :High
    Dolby Vision settings
    Oled pix bright: 75
    Contrast 85
    Brightness 60
    Colour 36
    Warm 36
    Peak Brighness. Low
Cinema screen on for HDR and Dolby Vision
For Dolby Vision you might want to try switch on the AI settings, this dosent make content brighter but rather more works best for Dolby Vision IQ, so will find better shadow details, I noticed this provides a better depth in clouds on films such as Cliffhanger and Tremors, it's subtle but there's no harm in leaving these settings on as they will just auto detect the right gamma depending on the content so it will produce it on the best possible way
OK thanks for reading hope this helps get the best of a rather excellent TV,

Had my LG C8 for over three years now and it is still the best TV I have ever owned. I am keeping my eye on the new QD-OLED TVs coming out from Sony and Samsung this year and depending on the price I may replace the C8. However I also kinda want to wait and see how Samsung's QD-OLED panels last. I have had issues with Samsung QLEDs in the past so being a little cautious.
And for anyone wondering no I have no issues with burn in/image retention after 3+ years. Even with my kid playing thousands of hours of Switch over the past two years of the pandemic 😂Seriously unless you're watching 10+ hours of BBC News a day on it you don't need to worry about burn in on an OLED and if that is your use case then an OLED is a waste, just get a cheap LCD for watching the news 😜
Oh and get yourself either an Apple TV 4K or an Nvidia Shield Pro as nobody should be using any smart TVs built in OS other than to change the input source.

I get your fear. I bought a 32" LG in 06 for what amounts to $1650 in today's money -- over 5 weeks of pay for me at the time.
Exactly 5 years later it became a VERY expensive paperweight -- tech told me it would be easier/cheaper to just replace it. Sooo hard for me to give LG more money after being burned so badly by my only experience with them. I swore them off over me having felt like I was ripped off.
But now everyone is saying they have THE best gaming TV going. But no one can possibly know about longevity. If I lay down $2k for a TV (over 2 MONTHS of income for me now), it better cook, clean, give good head, AND last more than 5-6 years. I'm FAR from made of money.
I'd love to be able to trust LG and just get a C1. But having to replace such an expensive piece every handful of years just plain feels shady to me; like it's designed to fail so you have to get another.
I may end up with a C1. But so help me, you old TV gods, if this one goes tits up too soon, I will track down LG and beat the piss out of the company as if it smacked my woman in front of me.

@@Quazi-Moto Im just a one off, but I picked up a 65" LG TV before QLED an OLED were a thing. It died just after the warranty expired. I was super annoyed. Walked away and got a Vizio QLED. A few months go by I still had the LG in the shed. I had a random FB post for LG TVs pop up in my feed. So I made a comment about their TVs dying right past warranty and become a 65" piece of expensive trash. They actually reached out to me and sent a tech who took the TV and repaired in. Honestly that move made me consider them again. I eventually picked up a C8 on sale and moved the Vizio to the living room and its been such a fantastic set. Actually upgrading that to a G1 this weekend.

    • @Quazi-Moto
      @Quazi-Moto 2 года назад

@@DarkWolfWRX That's cool that they did that for you. I'm kind of shocked they did so after the warranty ended. I guess they know better than anyone about that kind of problem. I'm sure they have had tons of complaints.
I'm still gun shy of them. Just can't help it. I can't afford to be making mistakes like that with money, especially multiple times. I live on a fixed income and barely break $10k/year.
All the best of luck going forward with your new toys! Hopefully they last more than 5-7 years, which seems to be the lifetime of most things that are designed to fail (or that maximize profit by using cheaper components).
I appreciate you letting me know what they did for you.
Side note: I also got a Vizio afterward. Had it 9 years, and it's still going strong.

Just bought a G1 65 inch over C1 because G1 gets 5 year panel warranty, C1 does not (in US anyway) and it comes with an ATSC tuner, and I like OTA as a fallback if cable/internet goes out. I didn't wall mount but used the Sanus pedestal table mount which allowed me to raise it to clear the Samsung HW-Q950A soundbar and it also rotates, great for access to the rear inputs and to shift viewing angle when full house of people viewing. Plus being able to rotate it/tilt it helps fix glare when turning off lights isn't feasible. WebOS6 is laggy, my old LG 60UH8500 runs WebOS 3 and is much faster. My biggest gripe is the failure of the "magic" remote to act as a universal control. Despite others with my cable company's set top box having it work just fine, mine doesn't and LGs response has been to declare the box incompatible, despite many others using the exact same box successfully with the remote. Somehow with me it's incompatible despite others being successful and LG washes hands. The device detection took 7 or 8 tries before it identified and the magic remote would work a LG blueray as well, but even that is laggy. That process is not solid. Thankfully my Harmony remote works flawlessly with it (until Harmony shuts down their servers...) It'll be 5 or more years before I replace this so waiting for a 2022 G2 made zero sense, too expensive when they come out and waiting 9 more months for lower price? I also am in the US but have until Feb 19 to return or get price match, so maybe save a few quid that way. But buying 2021's best is no different than buying last year's car model. It's still the value it was when it was the star product and is now cheaper.

I bought this in late July, I got it up and absolutely love the G1 77inch. For me they made one big mistake. As you said 2.28 in, the cable mgmt is a bit of mess specially for UK as our plugs are large. It would be nice to be able to detach the power cable from the TV. I also agree that the menu needs a be speed up. It's to slow and sometimes lagging. A slight bigger size 85 inch would be very nice as well

It’s a great TV but to be honest it is too dark with Dolby Vision content without using Vibrate picture mode.

I'll be buying the G1 later this year hopefully before they all go out of stock - mostly because I have already channelled out two holes in the wall so looking forward to having a perfectly flush TV with no cables on show (current TV comes out about 6cm).
I do think in terms of picture quality etc. there are diminishing returns with these new TVs and from what I've seen from the 2022 range so far it doesn't seem to be worth the premium.

8:20 You used it for one month though? It's with an extended period of use, perhaps a year that you would see burn in. Of course there would be no burn in when you haven't used it as a PC monitor for more than a month or two. Also even with all the safety features on, and additional things you can do to help prevent burn in does not stop burn in. E.g Linus and Wendell from Level 1 Techs.

I bought the 77A80J because it was a fair bit cheaper than the G1 yet providing a similar, if not better, picture quality (both have the EVO-panel and similar brightness). Don’t play games on my 77” (that’s what my 48” CX is for - soon to be replaced by a 42” C2), so VRR isn’t something that’s a big deal for me. G2 would definitely be a better buy due to the addition of a heatsink much like the A90J.

Your website is great but hard for our 75+ seniors because very technical. Would like some consideration given on tech programs for seniors since tv is a lifeline and we have the money to spend! I'm coming up to 77 in February and bought one of these a couple of months back. You seriously don't need to be a tech wizard to use one although I have to admit its always been a passion with me. Switch it on and follow the instructions and away you go. Make sure the audio output is set to the tv output. Over the next few months you can try things like picture mode and it will while away the winter evenings!

Great review! Looking at buying a new TV when my Samsung 50” kicks the bucket (still going strong after 12 years and 1 repair and with an excellent picture).
OLED seems to be the way to go but what seems to be a MAJOR problem, in my opinion after watching a lot of these videos, is the screen dimming with static elements. For instance, in Spain, on all our channels there are bright logos that indicate the channel. These I take it would cause the TV to dim the image to an unwatchable level with no official way to turn it off except by using the service menu and voiding the warranty.
Is QLED the way to go or will this issue be resolved in future versions of OLED, that you’re aware of?
