All your tips definitely helped John, but it did take forever to put those tube seals around the spark plug tubes. You definitely made it look easy. Thank you
I see you use WD-40 as a lubricate to help the install of the tube seals into the valve cover. I use silicone grease, since I believe the WD-40 will speed up the deterioration of the rubber on the seal. I also use a small amount on the i.d. of the seal to aid it in correctly and without damage fit over the spark plug tube.
Bit of a potentially daft question so I have my flame suit ready, but as you recommended very frequent oil changes is it ever OK to skip a filter change and just do the oil? Great video, by the way, been waiting for this one-my cover's in dire need of a refurb.
The button heads that you guys use...are they available for purchase if I stop by this week? In addition, do you have extra gasket kits for purchase as well?
Hey guys I was cleaning the oil off the spark plug hole and I got a piece of shop towel stuck in where the spark plug sits. Is that bad? How do I get it out? :(
Great video as always! 2 things though: 1) If the valve cover is off already, would it make sense to change out the spark plugs as well? I know that they can be changed with the cover on, but if you covered that as part of this video that would have been even more helpful 2) Not sure if I missed it, but did you put on the valve cover gasket before putting the valve cover back on? It's usually a fairly easy process, but just wondering if any sealant needs to be placed on the gasket to help seal better - i.e. for tight corners, etc
Timothy Wu Most people know how to change the spark plugs. This was to show the valve cover. As mentioned in the video, we replace the whole valve cover gasket kit.
@@LHTPerformance do you happen to know part number for the tube seals? This is my first time opening my engine 05 s2000, I'm also trying to change out the engine cover gasket since its leaking.
@@br8knight I think you’ll be fine. Take your time. The only thing you can mess up is to tear the tube seals or roll the gasket when installing it. Take your time.
@@LHTPerformance I truly appreciate your time to answer and positive response...Thanks...gonna order spark plugs and some other parts..ill update on my progress...
The 4 bolts on my valve cover broke when I tried to remove them to replace spark plugs. HOW DO I REMOVE THE SREW SHANK (HALF THAT IS ATTACHED TO SCREW HEAD) OR WHATEVER ITS CALLED THATS STUCK INSIDE
Always love these S2000 tips, hints, and walking through the maintenance.
Great video just purchased a s2000 in may and running some maintenance and all your videos are so helpful

I sometimes forget as we do it so much it’s easy to us, I try not to brush over things too fast. Glad it helped you.
Do you need to remove the old engine oil before working on changing the valve cover?
@@HondaBois Nope
You guys are incredible. Please keep these coming!
Much appreciated....even if I don’t take on the task myself it’s great to understand what’s going on!
Much thanks from the UK. Excellent detailed how to.
funny something that seems so simple is not ..your little tips and tricks helped my install go smoothly. ..thanks.
Sad I wish the How To videos continued, very helpful.
Unfortunately the handful of ‘ know it alls ‘ took the motivation away from sharing. Maybe I’ll do a patreon for the How tos 🤔
Great tech video - very detailed - a real confidence builder
Thank you for every single video in your chanel !!! Respect !!! We appreciate your time !!!
bosshogg_cars_bg Thanks so much 👍🏻
when wrench is life!!!! i love it im a ocd guy like you john one day i hope to meet you
Awesome video...great details on how to.👍🏼
Excellent video, thanks. Wish I’d watched this before I approached this last time, ended up with oil in 2 of the sleeves. Which affected the coils 😢.
Thank you for talking me through this it's my first time
Lovin these older videos
A little tip, if you don't have a socket that fits the tube seal, you can put the old tube seal on top of the new one and hammer it down that way
Good tip buddy 👍🏻
Another great video John. LHT is #1
Very detailed. Thanks!
Will come in handy. Thanks.
If you oil lasts 3000 miles I’d be very impressed.
How do you get it to go around the spark plug tube? I just ripped a two pieces of the spark plug gasket.
I wish you were in Arizona!
I gotta say the hardest part is taking the cover in and out lol.... I just did mine today.
currently trying to remove the cover. Was hoping to find tips because i think prying it off will cause damage similar to the video...
There’s no reason to pry it of. Pull up and release by hand. We do these all the time, it’s not glued on.
Thx for the vid! What oil do you like to use?
I tried to order the cover kit, but it was on back order. Any ideas on where to find a kit? I would appreciate the help! Thanks!
12:12 "Vlave" cover??? Just messing with ya. I love your vids, I own a 2000 S2000 keep up the great work.

Pete Miller WD40 dries off. It doesn’t hurt rubber

Rob Coleman No worries. I personally recommend changing the filter every time. Everyone has their own ideas, but that’s me.
👍 thanks for the speedy reply!
Is there any need to put rtv/sealant maker on any corners when changing the valve cover gasket?
Hi sir I wild like to know what time of oil you use thank you
erickperez357 I use Mobil 1 in everything I own.
Thanks for your pronts answer sir
Can you give me the link for the stainless steel allen bolts
Adam Choudhary We buy them in massive quantities. They M6 x16 button head.
I wish I have listened to you , I used a torque wrench to tighten the bolts and now the 2 minutes job became 2 hours job 😖

Ryan Abenante Come On by and we’ll hook you up with some button head stainless. We don’t sell any of the gasket kits.

I would definitely get it out. If all else fails, get a shop vac with a thinner piece of tube to stick down it.

I pulled out the spark plugs and it has engine oil in there. How do I clean the engine spark plug pipes that contain engine oil?
Either vacuum pump or rags and paper towel. Sounds like the tube seals leaking.

@@MetalsForBrunch We post them in our videos and show how to do it. Do a quick search.
Does anyone know the best OEM color match to the red valve cover? I bought the VHT red wrinkle paint but it came out more burnt orange than red.
777aterial I once did a valve cover in satin black and then the red VHT over the top. It worked pretty well. We only off powder coat black now.

Everything should be replaced with how much heat it all has to deal with.
My car wont rev past 3000 rpm but has no engine lights
The 4 bolts on my valve cover broke when I tried to remove them to replace spark plugs. HOW DO I REMOVE THE SREW SHANK (HALF THAT IS ATTACHED TO SCREW HEAD) OR WHATEVER ITS CALLED THATS STUCK INSIDE
Did u get ur screws out, they should be easy to remove because no tension on them. They sell a tool that reverse drills them out
%$#@^ing tube seals are impossible to get around the tube.
Put a little oil around the seal before installing the valve cover. Take it slow, little by little.
