I’ve used this before on a b series valve cover. Didnt hold up very long and chipped very easily. I did my f22c valve cover but this time with high temp primer and so far it’s been 3 years and no issues. I’d recommend spraying a layer of high temp primer to anyone doing this for best lasting results
Sir that came out amazing! The tip of not heating the VC is a great idea.ost videos I have seen recommend it but has lack luster results. Keep up the great work.
Yours came out really good, I did mine a few years ago but I did them both red but didn't come out as good as yours, great video though looks freaking nice!
Nice 😍 I have just repainted my K20A valve cover too but the wrinkle not as satisfying and nice as yours. The previous owner wrinkle blue was better. Just that I prefer red top
FYI - 24ft lbs on those spark plugs. service manual says 13lbs and that was revised long ago, its not until about 80lbs that a spark plug can snap off in the head so 24ft lbs is solid.
Hands down solid how to video. 🙏🏽end result speaks for itself. Very well done sir. That thing looks beautiful. 10/10. Very well done 👍🏽 keep em coming. Cold air coming for it??🤔
I've been procrastinating big time on doing this to my AP2 S2000, watched quite a few DIY videos on painting the valve cover and I think yours is one of the best. I really like how u showed the masking step because that's the part I worry about the most not doing right. What do u think about using a drill and a wire brush to get to the spot sand paper can't? Thanks for the video man.
Great video! I know it's been a while for this video, but how is it holding (if car is still around) and lastly. How long after the paint and heat gun process would you recommend waiting before removing the masking tape? Thanks
I sold the car, but this finish holds up for years. I removed the tape about an hour after spraying. You don’t want to wait until it cures, as it will be harder to remove cleanly.
when u sanded the honda logo and vtec lettering, did you respray with it again? I see how some of the paint became more grey as you were sanding or is that just the metal scrapings?
looks like someone swapped the valve cover at some point. That is an AP2 cover. You can tell by the PCV valve...The AP1 uses the old style plastic PCV that just sits in a rubber gromet.
I tempted painting a D series cover with the wrinkle black and it didn't wrinkle evenly. Some spots were almost smooth and others was very wrinkled. I was very disappointed
@@crxseth I’m browsing periodically. Biggest hindrance is the fact I don’t have garage space, and don’t want the driveway to be full all the time where the kids can’t play. Hoping one day before too long🤞
@@Rooki3_ Paint doesn't stick as well to aluminum as it does steel, because it isn't as porous and starts to oxidate as soon as air hits it. Where I work, not only do we have primer specific for aluminum, we also give the aluminum an alodine bath to stop it from corroding and so the primer sticks even better.
@@BernsteinOmega got it thanks. For someone with access only to over the counter paint, what rattle can process would you recommend for high aluminum and high heat? Would any primer work on aluminum and then using a color paint? Looking for longevity without breaking the bank.
@@Rooki3_ I've used marine zinc chromate primer on a few sets of Z32 calipers about 6-8 years ago and they look the same. I got the primer from my local marine shop. I top coated one set with Napa crossfire and 2k rattle can clear and another set with all Duplicolor products. No problems.
Did the factory tell you to put oil on that valve cover gasket ? There is a thing called "capillary attraction "that can occur when the oil is heated . The oil molecules will move out from crankcase pressure and be replaced with new oil molecules to follow. . If not instructed to do so , don't do that .

Some people have more time than they have money to spend, so it’s not a bad option for $15. But, yes, while they are available, you can still get one new. I suspect in a couple years they will be discontinued.
this is what i did to my valve cover a few years ago, its been holding up great.

Good advice. Hopefully mine will hold up a while. My B16A one is holding up a couple years later without primer.
Loyal Toyota guy here but you’re Honda content to top shelf! Keep up the awesome work man!
I want him to do a tour of his Toyota, he has a sweet lifted older Tacoma
Love the idea of the wrinkle. A buddy of mine Anodized the red part. IMO best choice. Laster for ever.
Grate job man . Night and day difference made that engine bay look a hole lot better 👍
Absolutely love watching the transformation of those valve covers 😊😎
I would have used etch primer and some high heat primer on top of that, keep us updated on how it lasts a few years down the road maybe?
I considered it but I’ve had good luck with direct to metal like this in the past. We shall see. I’ll update you in a few years. ;)
This product will not work properly with primer.
Great job! Really thorough video. To the point where I feel quite confident taking this on myself.
Looks great. That's one of my favorite jobs to do on my cars.
It makes such a big difference.
very nice with my morning coffee. paint job came out so nice and oem banger job

This is hitting the satisfaction button big time! Nice job 👍 I wish they still made rocker covers like this!
Wow.. great job. Turned out great. Some eye candy to engine bay. Can't wait do mind when spring hit.
Ah thank you for doing it the easy way and right way to mask good results... did the same to my gsr cover.

i scrape the raised letters off with a razor blade before the paint is dry. less sanding

well i’ve been holding off on doing my k20a3 valve cover wrinkle blue have the paint just no time now i’m gonna make time 😂😂
Worth it! Makes a huge difference. I’d like to see the blue color. Never have.

10 minutes.
Lowes sells a stripper that's called citrus strip. It's in a spray can. It has next to no smell and works better than most brush on strippers
Looks good though. Excellent job
I'll have to check that out for sure.
Hmmmm 🤔 I will be looking into this I hate the strong chemical brush ons that you gotta do multiple coats with
Is Citrus Strip her real name?
Do you spray the cover with Matt clear coat to prevent damage to the colored layer?
No. The paint is fairly durable.
Nice job. So far how the paint going now? Any fading or?

how tight should i tighten my valve cover bolt

What type of oil do you use to lube the gasket and seal?
It’s not necessary, but I just used engine oil.
Great job, it came out super clean. Where do you get the rustoleum aircraft remover ?
Advance Auto.
wow. amazing job ! better than factory ? did you replace the PCV ?
No, looks like someone else already upgraded to the newer style though.
Did you proof paint the cover ? It says to put it in the over at 200 f for 1 hour
I just used a heat gun for 10-15 minutes afterward to get the texture and let it air dry after that.
when u sanded the honda logo and vtec lettering, did you respray with it again? I see how some of the paint became more grey as you were sanding or is that just the metal scrapings?
I did not respray anything over it. It’s raw metal. It’s just the metal dust that should be washed off.

How has it held up over the years?

Just the last one.
