I use a zinc chromate yellow or green primer on aluminum. I’ve had some paint adhesion fails without primer. Electrostatic painting in the factory overcomes the adhesion issue. However, at home painting in my opinion needs primer on any bare metal, even sprays that claim you don’t need primer. Also I’d use a mild lye caustic soda bath on aluminum before any painting in addition to degreaser. And of course wash off any prep solution. Wear nitrile gloves and wear safety glasses.
If use water a weak Draino solution for cleaning aluminum with distilled water. They sell it in the grocery store (about a dollar for one gallon). About 1/2 teaspoon of Draino in a 1/2 gallon is enough. I'd let the lye solution work for about a minute. Use distilled water to wash off any residue. Use nitrile or kitchen latex gloves and safety glasses.
Thanks, I got an excellent finish with your technique. Cool thing is you can spot treat if you missed an area or if it's not built up enough. It's hard to mess this up.
This was totally awesome 💯. Thanks for the concise tutorial. I may have the confidence to try this on my Walker-Turner Driver Line ac motor restoration end bells tonight 🔥
“Wipe it down with grease remover to get rid of any oils or grease” as he grabs it with bare hands. 90% of the time it’s fine but put a set of gloves on to save the headache the other 10%
Hi ya .. does that tank work on the Manuel R56 coopers, I have seen some that won’t work due to the bottom coolant line is too far forward and fowls on the gearbox linkages .. Awesome videos , following you. Been heaps of help . Thanks again
Myki Jay thanks I here if your not careful with the lower pipe it fowls however apparently with careful placement of the lower pipe it’s fine. Will do a fitting video
It is better to wear gloves- skin has a lot of oils that cause fingerprints. I used the wrinkle black in 1978, after a friend hit the plastic gill-shaped front grill for my 1972 Plymouth Barracuda to help hide the crack after I glued it back together. I have seen people use an outdoor gas grill to cure paint. The wife will probably be upset if you use her oven.
I have to say I bought this product for my harley engine on the strength of your video. And now I have to strip the while lot off and start again. Probably something I did bit I found it total rubbish.
@A. Melbs Probably something in the preparation department. I've used it on 2 HD engines. One with great success after a thorough cleaning and I got cocky a second time and blasted it on with poor results.
Brilliant video! I tried and failed to get a decent wrinkled finish until I used your technique!
Thanks for watching

tweedbean champion ! Interesting to see, definitely need a change from the old standard plastic bottle it has!
Doing solid work, cheers again
If you suspend your part on a wire you can spray the bottom as well at the same time.
great tip
Can i use it over something thats has primer on?
Or can i also spray it on something thats painted?
Best refer to manufacturers guidance on those questions. Thanks for watching
If you want the best wrinkle affect use an oven set it at 170f and be amazed
Great tip thanks
I do 180 because that’s lowest setting on my GE oven. I do 15 minutes bake in convection mode that gets even heat. Beautiful hard finish!
In direct sun light only or Can this technique be done in garage and then heat gun? Thx
Garage and heat gun 👍🏼
@@tweedbean Thx! Trying now
Good tutorial ❤️👌
Thank you
Always wondered is it best to remove the masking tape before it dries? Thanks for the video btw
I’m not expert but I would probably say yes to avoid peeling the paint but that’s just my opinion
Do you need to apply clear coat?
Hi thanks for watching. This product doesn’t require clear coat
You think I can paint my steel braided hoses with this. They are chrome now and would like them black
Assume your hoses are flexible so this wouldn’t work. Maybe some sort of rubber paint is what you need
@@tweedbean ok thanks
Just stumbled across this video. Great detail in your video. How has this held up? Is it scratch resistant when dry?
Hi thanks for watching, still like new. Its pretty hard wearing, I wouldnt say scratch resistant but seems stronger than matt paint for example
Whats your thoughts on doing this to the gas tank?
Can't see why it wouldn't work
Hi man! Can i paint the bumpers of my truck with that vht paint?
Thanks for the question, are they plastic or metal?
@@tweedbean metal!

Thank U
You're welcome 😊
How long did you wait after your final coat before using the heat gun?
No more than 5 mins
Durability good?
Seems to be yes 👍🏼

Sorry to hear that. I’ve done a few pieces now with it and had no issues.
