Best FILMING setup for crafting - New Studio revealed!

  • In this video I reveal the absolute BEST filing setup that could be used for any type of crafting or hobby! Having moved to a new home I had to tear down my old studio and rebuild it, only this time I've really outdid myself. The overall concept to this design is super simple, yet once realized, it could change how content creators all over the world film their videos. If you know of someone who films videos of their crafting or hobby please share this video with them! It just might be that missing element they're looking for..
    This studio is 68x29 making it rather large in size, but this concept could be used for pretty much any size work area. The actual work area consists of a sheet of plywood resting on a 2x4 frame that is supported in the back from long screws anchoring it to the wall, and simple 2x4's for the legs in the front. The top was laminated with a sheet of white Formica offering a durable yet smooth work-surface (colored clay can stain some surfaces so until further testing I'll still work colors on my small slab of marble I been using)
    The overhead canopy or (hood) is where all the brilliance comes in! At first glance it appears to be just a simple box to house all my lighting, but it's more than just that.. the entire canopy is actually "part" of a camera mounting system that is extremely versatile. Why? It acts as a dynamic mounting surface for a clever "camera arm" that can be attached temporarily to any surface inside or out on all 3 sides of the canopy! It's a bit hard to explain here, but I show the mounting "arm" in the video and show examples of how it could be used.
    ****The lighting consists of 6 - 100 watt LED bulbs offering 9000 lumens (not 12000, I miscalculated in the video)**** just a blooper but if I really needed more lumens I could just buy stronger bulbs and easily change them out. But it's bright enough now as it is.
    So with this basic Studio design you can have that camera literally anywhere within this entire work/crafting area! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch this it means so much.. If you know of anyone who films their crafting or hobby PLEASE share this video to them! It could inspire them to build a more versatile filming setup...
    For those new I make Art using mostly Polymer Clay, and it would mean the world to me if you joined me by subscribing, I truly mean that. Thank you all for your time it means so much!
    PS: I have a video on how I made that pencil holder, both kinds, and a full playlist on creating the big Dragon you see... it's on my channel, hope you visit!

    I have asked so many people who have high quality films like yours how they do it and received no replies. Thank you for sharing your setup, equipment, etc. When you prosper others you get back 10X fold. Here's wishing you 100X and more.

      Oh my gosh!! Hello Sarah! Thanks so much that means a lot! I've been not as active for well over a year now cause I've been depressed due to living in someone else's house and other reasons.. I would never leave my room, sometimes for days even. But then my amazing wife managed to buy us a house (yes, she gets all the credit!) and now my whole mind set is better, MUCH better! I want to truly try at RUclips again. We've been in our new home for over a month now and I STILL can't get over it.. What a Blessing! I'm glad you like this filming setup!

    Ingenius!!!!!!! Tom, you are absolutely incredible when it comes to thinking through and installing a creative idea! God has richly blessed you as an artist and as one who cares for and communicates well with others. I love your heart of compassion and passion! You are perhaps one of the most talented & humble clay artists that I have had the pleasure of watching on RUclips! As you bless others, God continues to bless you! You have done some wonderful things but I believe God has even greater things in mind for you in the future! Keep looking up! Thank you for sharing how you made your light box...and just for sharing who you are! ❤️❤️❤️

    Congratulations on your new studio. I love the set up but especially the lightbox. Good, proper light from all angles is very important for crafters (and of course for youtube videos), especially if you want to craft in the evening. Very impressive.

      Thanks so much I'm glad you like it!! :D You couldn't do something like this in a basement? Just wondering... and is a basement really so bad? I'd imagine a space like that would keep you from hearing, or being heard, from the rest of the house and outside world. If the space is there all this really amounts to is a work area and the canopy for lighting/filming setup. Thank you again for the support it means a lot!

    • @h.stiemke4217
      @h.stiemke4217 6 лет назад

      It's OK. Lighting is well . . . . . less than desirable. But it works. It is really only once and a while I get the time to try and make stuff, and I am nowhere near your level, but it is fun I have to admit. I have only made like 4 things in 5 years! :-( I do post it all on FB, so take a look if you want. You are extremely talented and can't wait to see more. !

      Thanks, I'm sure there will! I always try to make good videos, this "version" of the studio is much better than the older one being I can now film from the sides too (the last one had closets on both sides restricting my filming from the front only.

    Can you show better how the camera support is fixed, and maybe show in detail how to build one too? I'm looking for a solution like this everywhere but i didn't found something cheap enough to actually make...

    I’ve been trying and trying to figure out how to have a camera display for my iPhone videos. How does it work with your actual camera? How is the video displaying live?

    • @TheBroodingTom
      @TheBroodingTom  6 лет назад

      My camera has a HDMI output, it only allows me to see stuff when I'm not filming though... when I press record the TV screen goes black and it says (now recording) but some cameras will show you a display even while recording, wish mine did that lol

    Thanks what did you use to attach the camera

    • @TheBroodingTom
      @TheBroodingTom  6 лет назад

      the first thing that is directly attached to the camera is a small black metal camera mount (Arkon CMPHDOO6 camera mount), the rest of it is just wood. Hope that helps

  • @claygirl6133

    Audio needs to be adjusted, too sharp? Hurting my ears. Great job on the studio lighting. You can get those plastic hallway runners to keep static down and catch clay bits when they drop instead of taking the rug out as was suggested in previous video. Congratulations on your new home, great yard and neighbors are at a reasonable distance. Should be peaceful.
