This was refreshing to see amazing work done with such simple and easy equipment, Thank you for your honesty, this will help and inspire a lot of people.
Minnie Small · SemiSkimmedMin You're very welcome, I've been following your channel because even though I'm not doing similar things I find great attachment to your creative ideas. All the best for you and the channel!
This is so encouraging/enlightening...the fact that we could technically start with what we have, not waiting until we have the right equipment. “Just do it”❣️✨
I also use my iPhone and selfie stick to do my videos. I have a shelf above my station that I’m able to prop the phone onto that overlooks my art. I just struggle with lighting so really looking at investing in a good light that will give me consistent lighting for my videos. Thank you so much for sharing the towel in a bucket idea though. That’s so clever!
you saved my life right now. I needed to find this video! lol. I'm on my way to get these things and begin recording my art videos. thank you so so much!!
great ideas, love the bank as an anchor! an old small pillow/clothe bag filled with pebbles/sand works great as a counter weight as well and its cheap. I've even used bungee straps and even canoe tie-downs to hold a tripod steady, any port in a storm, right !
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for making this video! You have unlocked so many mysteries for me. I had so much trouble trying to make my first video that I ended up taking photos to make a stop-motion video. I absolutely love these tips and can't wait to use them for making my next video... which I was putting off because making the first one was so draining! 😂👍❤️
Thanks very much! I'm trying to do some videos of handwriting on my desk with a fountain pen. I particularly liked your suggestion of leaning the tripod and weighting down or tying down the back, longer leg. Plus, your suggestion of anchoring a selfie stick in a bucket using a blanket or towel is brilliant. Thanks again. - Christopher
The selfie stick set up was cheaper than the alternative I was looking at doing. This is also helping me with my live stream set ups on twitch, and I'm so thankful I stumbled upon this video!!!!
I've only just come across your videos ... they're amazing, this particular one especially as it gives really good instructions from an artist's point of view about filming work as you go. A very big thank you. I hope you're still making videos.
Great tips! I've just started making art youtube videos and didn't realise how annoying the camera cutoff time would be. Mine stops every 20 mins so it's better than 10, but I still miss it sometimes and chunks of my speed paintings are missing :( Great job though - loved watching this
Apparently the recording limit was set by the EU to differentiate between digital (still) cameras and digital (video) cameras so that different import tariffs could be applied. www.tested.com/tech/photography/44445-why-digital-cameras-have-a-30-minute-video-recording-limit/ As far as I can work out aspirations to apply WTO rules (no discriminatory taxes/duties) instead of EU rules still have not been achieved.
Hi Minnie, as an art photographer, thought I would give you some items you can buy to help with supporting items. 1) magic arms 2) clamps 3) sand bags - to hold a tripod steady (place on leg or in center column in needed. these items are inexpensive, go to a camera store and you should be able to obtain them dirt cheap.
thank you for doing this...... and for speaking in a calm clear way(unfortunately lots of people DONT do this). Thanks also for sharing a lot of useful ideas and tips !!
Would it be possible to make an updated version of this ? maybe talk about your new cameras , tips or so on shooting , I love your videos and your style is so clean!
This seems to be the most practical and affordable way that anyone could try. Thanks so much for sharing selfie bar idea and also utilising a normal tripod!
Thank you so much for sharing these tips with us. I feel like a lot of people who post art videos on youtube keep their filming techniques a secret, or don't think to make a video about them.
This blows my mind. I love your inventiveness. You've achieved what others have used expensive equipment for using basic things you own. Very inspiring. I'm sure you've got other equipment now, but this goes to show that you're a true creative! 👏👏👏👏
Thank you 😊😊 and welcome to my channel! Lovely to have you! I might make an updated version of this video soon; I’ve changed my setup but it’s still pretty diy lol
Oh my gosh, this video is super helpful! I want to start my own art channel, as a way of setting myself goals, encouraging me to draw and paint every day etc, but at the moment I'm unemployed, so I was at a loss for how to record. I'm glad you shared the tip about the selfie stick, and the phone camera :D
Thank you for this video! I know this is four years old but I am SOOOOOO gratful I found this today! I thought I was crazy-like there was a some magic formula for setting up a time lapse video that every professional artist out there understood. It's all trial and error!- now I know. Again, thank you, and I'm keen to follow your progression as a fellow artist. Thank you for sharing.
Immensely helpful and practical across many different use cases. Much cheaper than most approaches you see on YT today where dudes are trying to get you to buy a C-stand, monitor, sandbag, and new mirrorless camera all just to get a vertical shot. Thanks for posting!
Such a great video! One thing what anyone can learn from this video is that we don't need a costly set up to be successful. Thanks a lot for this video 😊
Thank you so much this was the best help i have had now I can go film and buy supplies instead of another type of mount... I have both the tripod and the selphie stick... again thank you for sharing
This is really helpful. Thank you. I'd love to see an updated version of this, to see what camera you are now using, and what you use to edit your videos. Thanks :)
This was really well produced MInnie! This is the first time I saw a video of yours and and I appreciated that you just got to the point and had helpful information, much appreciated!

I used my cellphone and a tripod and it’s working great. I really like your lighting tips, I think I will get one of those to make my work space brighter😃
Without doubt one of the best and clearest videos I have found here. Excellent job and thanks so much for doing this.......I really haven't got a clue about any of this and now I have some idea where to start, Thank you!!!
Aha! Found you! I saw one of your watercolor videos a few months ago and forgot to sub. I like to watch other artists's videos during breakfast as a way to inspire my own creativity for the day. Glad I found you.
thank you so much for this video. i've had a big motivation to upload videos for so so so so long but the only thing that kept me from it was: how am i going to film them? the selfie stick idea was clever. thank you for this.
I love the simplicity of your equipment and the results are fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing this, i really wanted to start filming but was worried of not having enough money to buy equipment but i will give it a go with the things i already have!
Thank you so much. Im still struggling with my videos, I still cant find a way to get the angles I want. Your video has helped me a lot giving me new ideas to try.

Girl, you're amazing! The only person so far who showed how to get around just using the tripod
Great video Minnie, this will inspire some future videos for me.
I've checked out a few videos on overhead filming and yours is the most straightforward. Thanks so much!

Thanks for watching! There's nothing worse than checking your camera and realising it's not recording anymore!!

Me too, my canon turns off after 12mim, so annoying. Thinking about getting a cam recorder!
Same tooo thak you so much minnie❤
Thankfully mine beeps at me when it cuts off so I can catch it with minimal interruption.
