@@Texy88 And the cutscenes and some of the "boss" levels look fugly art-wise. Outside of that though, I'm really impressed with some of the stuff here.
God, this brings back memories!! My sister and I rented this one, and it kicked our little butts; we were cussing and screaming so much that our mom came into the rec room, and angrily tried yanking the cartridge out of the SNES, not knowing that you had to hit the eject button! 🤣💀
Pugsley's Scavenger Hunt may be absolutely beautiful, but it's a spitefully designed game that does nothing but spit in the face of those that dared to pay good money for it.
Oh my gosh I remember playing this all the time with my big brother back in the game. This game was impossible to beat. I don't think we ever cleared one stage lol. But man did we want too. We both tried so hard, but we just couldn't do it. Man this was a nice blast from the past. It was awesome watching you clear it. I wish my brother was still with us, so I could show him this. He would of loved it! He passed away 7 years ago. Thank you for bringing back fun memories.
This game has so many cool moments and effects that really take advantage of a bunch of the SNES graphical features and capabilities: 0:27 (the Mode 7 rotating, scaling, and warping logo), 1:05 (three background layers with a nice semi-transparency and squash effect on the bubbles), 19:13 (really effective use of the 2bpp low-colour layer for the far background, plus a little colour gradient in the window, and then the lovely semi-transparent beakers and test tubes a bit later on in the level), 29:00 (the awesome crystal ball effect using all three background layers plus some colour windows and such), 33:05 (nice lighting area effect using one of the background layers plus colour math), etc. Just some really nice stuff going on.
I did rent the game once as a kid when it was out, and hoo boy was it hard! I still find the crystal ball level cool with Granny watching over the action as a nice touch. Plus, I also remember Gomez being in one of the stage's intros, and from what I've seen, I don't Wednesday appears once.
@@ottagol1985 You're welcome. I just finished the game and it's way more difficult than it needs to be. I don't think you missed much by just renting it.
I appreciate the description addressing the difficulty. I have this game and beat it years ago only to get the ending, if you want to call it that, shown in this video. Reminded of Castlevania Bloodlines on the Genesis, I figured beating it on a harder difficulty would show an extended ending with some fancy picture or story or something at least. Now I know not to bother. The game has good visuals but the difficulty is executed in a manner that frustrates the player.
game is freakin hard! while it didnt have super oustanding graphics.. its use of color and that soundtrack were awesome and were good examples of what the snes sound chip could do in the hands of pros.
You're a boss! I remember this game. Impossible to beat. Had no save feature. I would get far and just leave the system on & continue the next day after school. Loved it but too hard 😔
Well, this ending screen sounds like a bad joke more than anything else. All you have for finishing the game on hard is the ending screen of the normal mode but with something like « wow, you finished the game on hard » written on it.
OK... So here it is. The game that I hate since I was 13. This game destroyed my life... I couldn't finish it. It came from Hell. The difficulty is infernal. Some jumps are imposible. And some enemies are indestructible. One of the hardest games ever.
I remember liking this when it came out and I even recorded myself playing it off the vcr. I thought I just sucked at it. Didn’t know it was actually challenging.
This is what I was talking about. I remember renting this from Blocbuster.... cause the Saturday morning cartoon. This game was hard imo. Glad you knocking it out.
This game had SO much potential of being good. But the difficulty level is just through the roof, this is Bayou Billy levels of cheap, and although I love that game, I can't say the same for this. Looks and controls can't make up for what is an unfair mess. End of story
That hit at 43:25 is such bullshit! D: Anyway that game is really cool, a huge pain to play, but very fun to watch! Good job tbh! Must have been hard to remember the layout and stuff.
It tells the player to try a harder setting even though the games hard enough as it is. Playing normally without cheating I think it would be almost impossible for anybody to get through this game with 1 heart.
This game has the (rather dubious) honor of being the only game I've ever played that features a literal WASHING MACHINE as an end-of-stage boss. I have a soft spot for this game in spite of its difficulty... I guess I'm just really willing to forgive the game for its rough spots since everything else is pretty well-polished.
Ahahahaha I thought so too, but then I remember that the Game Boy Beetlejuice has a washing machine boss. It feels weird to say this is the second game with a washing machine battle that I've played, lol.
This was the first game I ever got for the SNES. My parents went to a mall and told the salesman "my son is really good at videogames so we need a difficult game". I was able to get relatively far, but I could never finish it so I traded it for, I think, Super Mario Kart. Winning move if you ask me.
I love the original Adams platformer on Genesis, and while I would have been down for a direct follow-up, I kind of do like how this one had a stupid-hard precision element to it that wasn't necessarily in the same league as many actually shit platformers, but almost like something we would see in indie titles like Super Meat Boy or VVVVV. Thats my take on it at least looking back.
I hate to admit but I played the shit out of this game when I was younger and I hated and loved every moment of it for some reason or another. Odd game....
It cracks me up how Fester's Quest gets a reputation for being "broken" or too difficult, while this gets a pass. Probably because Fester is more well known.
Oh, I actually quite enjoy Fester's Quest. I find the game quite possible to beat in about an hour or so, and wonder why it gets so much crap, since I really don't find it to be that bad of a game. I know of how the game was fixed for the European territories, but have not personally played it. I am curious, though.
@@yusakug Oh, I loved Fester's Quest. It's one of my favorite NES games! I've done playthroughs of both the NTSC and PAL versions if you're interested. The PAL one is quite a bit better because of the changes they made to it, but I love the game either way. Just make sure you use a turbo controller! And you're totally right, there's no contest between this and FQ.
So, NintendoComplete, do you find it odd how this game clearly features blood flying whenever you jump on an enemy, and it came out in 1993, the same year Nintendo forced Acclaim to take the blood out of Mortal Kombat, and replace it with sweat?
@@yusakug Not really, actually. I mean, they had those rules, but I think they were so strictly enforced in MK because it was such a visible, highly politicized game. Loads of games on the SNES and NES slipped stuff past the Nintendo censors. A good example is the "alternate" ending to the NES game Castle of Dragon where the princess runs around topless ahahahaha. Or Maniac Mansion - the first production run of the game let you microwave the hamster, even though Nintendo caught it and had it removed before they allowed LucasArts to order any more runs. The last boss of The Rocket Ranger on the NES is pretty horrifying as well for a licensed game. City Connection had guys smoking in it. Monster Party - all of it :D. Lots of odd little things like that.
8:38 Excuse me?! How were you supposed to know about the position of the octopus there? (EDIT: And ALL of your deaths were cheap!) Some of the best parallax scrolling on the SNES in this game, multi layered, fast moving, animated with transparency effects. Very impressive :)
