Yes, the cleaner does work, but it's only temporary like he said. If you use your switch a lot, you'll need to spray it more often. I just upgraded to those hall effect sticks and hoping I never have to worry about drift again. So far, so good.
Other tip: buy joycons from companies that aren’t Nintendo. Other companies joycons are cheaper, and usually stronger. (Get Hall effect type of joycons as well.)

Thank you for this video! Unfortunately my dad doesn't have any special WD-40 right now so I used Memorex AirDuster and it did the job! (I hope I don't get stick drift again.)
Air duster definitely worked on at least two joy-cons I wiggled the stick giving a few good blasts in all directions. One or two sticks refused to play ball though....
You should use that can spray air thingy under your nails too! 😂😂😂 OK im done roasting 😅 Im so afraid if this drift shit that I barely use the joycons I bought a controller bcuz I was scared and no I'm not kidding 😅
Ok probably no one will answer but for some reason my joycons have no drift and then when I connect them to my phone they just go on their own. Why is that?
The Hall effects should stop any mechanical failure but the design of those little Nintendo flaps still means something can make them sticky and needing a wash.
Or you could replace the joystick. For the people who that that it is too hard, it really isn't, you unplug around 2 cables, and it is better than spending more money on a matching set...
....just swap out the joysticks for hall effect sticks. Its $20 for a pair of left and right sticks, and is a 5 minute job per joystick. Hall effect sticks physically cannot drift due to using electromagnetic sensors
It sucks that joycons get drift to easy I personally have never gotten drift maybe I’m just lucky. But if you want a permanent fix but don’t want to replace the joysticks you can also use BW100 as it’s similar to special WD40 for electronic but it’s not conductive
I had a switch lite 2021 antalog would not press down. I got an oled in 2023 i got wiggly joycons but fixed it. Never got drift but my left joycon is a bit squeaky hope i wont need new joycons. And find a fix soon
All my joycons have had drift literally since day 1, so no I can’t be assed to use the “free” Nintendo repair I’ll just deal with it, and buy other accessories with Hall effect instead
I got my switch on April 2020 I think and I didn't get any stick drift so far although my left joycon stopped connecting with anything and I couldn't fix it so I had to get a new one
I had mine when it came out in 2017 and it still does not have drift all my friends are getting drift ima get those joy guardians my old one broke I got a new switch I’ve hade it sence march and I don’t want my special editions getting drift
I’m trying to playing super smash bros but when I move left the character moves fast but when I toggle it to the right they move slow and not fast at all. Should I send it in for repair? I literally just got it a month ago 😔
I just put mine in the donation bin and got some from eBay for 25$ I tried this. It worked for a little bit, but eventually it went back to drifting again.
I tried this with a cheaper version which is half the price of wd and it worked. Then when I went to a different store I found another one in a different brand with a much lower price. It was really disappointing 😂 hahaha but atleast I fixed it.
Or a easyer solution get a straw open the joy con flap and blow in the straw i just tried and it worked but its probably wont br as effective as a actual spray
I got my switch in 2018 and I got 2 pairs that drifted (the first one was a ground hit, the second one was… idk (also bought them cuz of the first pairs) (they are fixed now)) and I got 4 pairs of joy cons
Had a slight issue with my Pro Controller after my nephew used it while eating Cheesies. I think when people Calibrate their controllers, they do it wrong. When pointing in the Four Directions, you gotta snap to the direction and let go immediately, the Four Directions should be done like a Speedrun. Then do the Circlular Rotations slow. I used to take my time on the Four Directions, trying to get the ball perfectly centered on each Directions line. Then I rushed it, and it calibrated perfectly. It was my right stick, on BOTW, Link would always slowly look to the Left, surveying the land for danger like he was Clint Eastwood. After I rushed the Four Directions, my controller was good as new
What helps with mine is u take a toothpick pull up the flaps underneath the thumb stick and in your other hand u take a straw and blow into that area under the thumb stick Edit: this method give u about 2 hours without stick drift lol
My OG launch joycon eventually developed slight drift... this stuff always worked to fix it whenever they did. Eventually I did the Hall effect stick swap which fixed it. However I also got the Skyward Sword Joycon and later the OLED switch... Neither have ever drifted.
Wait, Nintendo will fix/ repair your controllers free? Ain’t no way… I’m sure most switch owners are out of warranty and they’ll happily say, thank you for wasting your time and money but we’ll fix it for $XX. As you mentioned in the video I can’t see this lasting super long, but if you can get by and make the controller work normally for another few months till it either stops working properly permanently or it stops working altogether seems to me like it’s a great deal. Can of contact cleaner costs a lot less that a new joy con or pair of them. I bought a used joy con a while back at game-stop(shoulda returned it while I could, but whatever now I have an extra, long story…it wasn’t even cleaned when I bought it -still dirty IN-BAG, had to clean it myself before use) and it cost me $35. A pair is around double that new. Contact cleaner is around $10-15 a can and u can use it on all your controllers and your friends and family’s and anything else that needs cleaned.
"no hardware required" "be sure to use this special wd40 not the normal one" bro no hardware required should mean i'm able to do this with only my fingernail
Wii U Pad, Switch. Doesn't matter. I'll almost never use them as handhelds (I love pro controllers). GBC to 3DS are the only game systems I own that I truly call handhelds.
Yeeeaaaahhnnno, i fixed my left switch joycon in this way, but if you use to much liquid, It literally damage more the joycon, i can't anymore connect that joycon as a separeted controller becahse the internal buttons (lights too) don' work anymore. ... or at least i think that was the problem Who caused that...
My sticks that came with my switch worked not even a year before drifting… The magnetic sticks however have lasted a looooooong time. I 100% say get the magnetic sticks if you ever are thinking of getting them
The best way to fix this is to buy new joycon pads online. I boght a set of with proper screw driver new latches and replacement screws online for less then $20 and actually replaceing them are super easy they just unplug. No sattering required and more then just a temporary fix.
I broke the plastic inside of my joystick for the l-r wiper, I took the joystick apart to see what went wrong after this didn’t work and prime 1 day shipping on some new sticks.
Also I heard if you have Nintendo repair your joycon they will most likely replace it, so anyone that has a special addition switch will get back regular gray joycons, so this is something you have to think about if you have special edition joycons.

Thanx man! Works like a charm! Has no drift but analog stick left doesnt work properly until now!
There are other methods which will fix it permanently. But you really have to open the controller.
The Hall effects should stop any mechanical failure but the design of those little Nintendo flaps still means something can make them sticky and needing a wash.
This works 100%!!! Just done this today and it’s spot on!!!
I wish I could use the replace system but my joy cons are limited edition that came with a Mario Nintendo switch.

Actually gulli joy sticks don’t drift because they don’t damage like the one’s current systems use today
They'll repair them for free if they're inside the warranty. They made me pay to fix my drift on my Switch Lite that was a month outside the warranty.
I thought they didn’t repair the Switch lite?
Use rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab on that bit of rubber on the bottom of the joycon it’s the cheapest way except for sending them to Nintendo
This why I stick to wireless controllers😂😂 just bought some New ones for fire emblem Three hopes ❤❤
Nah just go with isopropyl alcohol 70% it'll give your joycon a second wind
PUT A CREDIT CARD THICK CARTBOARD PIECE UNDER THE OUTSIDE OF THE JOYSTICK JUST REMOVE THE 4 SCREWS PUT IT UNDER THE METAL PART
Or just don’t use joycons and not waste 80 x 2 dollars on nintendo support versus getting a pro controller.
If it don't work just replace the analog by yourself, it only takes like 20 minutes and the replacement is only $5.

Rubbing alcohol works too
The fact that Nintendo still hasn't fixed the issue shows how little they value their customers
Just buy gulikit hall effect sensors

It doesn't work. It is in some cases a TEMPORARY Fix. Only switching the sticks helps
What worked for me is opening it up and outting a 1mm thick piece of paper on the joystick
