@uncultured swine and @sydney balk I had that its easy to turn on just hold the power button for 10secs and then tap it 3 times fast trust me it works(:
The problem with basic things is that no one ever takes the time to teach you about them. It's just assumed you know already. Really bad when it's your parents doing it. "What do you mean you don't know how to change a furnace filter? ...oh yeah, because we never made you do that."
Don't send them into nintendo. Not only will you be out of joycons for weeks to months depending on where you live, you'll also eventually get drift again. Just replace the joysticks with gulikit joysticks. They physically cannot drift
As of today, the help ticket form has been updated, making me worried that they may have also stopped doing repairs for free. Can anyone confirm that it still works?
When I told my dad that my controls are drifting he said And I quote “Oh there must be something wrong with the whole switch we should just buy a new one.” Wut no

FOR THOSE WHO 'S SWITCH'S SERIAL NUMBER STICKER HAS FALLEN OFF: 1. Go to system settings and scroll all the way down. It should be there. 2. The serial number is also located on the bottom of the box your switch came in. 3. Call Nintendo. They can determine the serial number of a switch even if it doesn't work if you tell them the info for a Nintendo account that is linked to the system.
My guess is that they are using a website that contains the information on an obscure website that not a lot of people know how to access. Even the website for offering a similar service says to preferable call the number provided, even if you have the information right in front of you.
They must have a specific obscure website saved somewhere on their corporate computers to allow them access to your pokemon boxes in Sword and Shield if there ever is problems in a person's specific game save file. They had to step in personally to fix Zarude not being scared when Pokemon Home and the game did not do it as intended by the game code. The instructions for it being scarfed is completely in Japanese since Nintendo of Japan fully made Zarude when they recieved no orders from the corporate office. It was fully finished by the time of when the Zarude movie was supposed to have been in theaters in Japan. I did my research surrounding this topic, so I know what I am talking about here. Just because the Zarude that you have in your game is coded to have the scarf on it, it might not have it right away. It will also likely be the exact same information that you are going to find as well, considering that a dev also tried to find out more information about a certain topic matter; and only came across that specific bits of information as well.
I like how modern joycons can fault after like a year, then you have my n64 controller that I've had for ages and it still works fine. They purposefully don't make em to last anymore I reckon
All previous Nintendo consoles were _extremely_ durable compared to the Joycons. I feel like if I look at them wrong they'll start drifting. It's a very upsetting thing, given that their hardware has almost always been good up 'till now.
Fr, my wii remote handled being thrown and hit off someones head and still worked like a champ, but if i breathe the wrong way around my joycons they will get drift
Did this once already and going to do it for other one now, thank you very much. I did everything you said and they fixed and returned my original controller, can't stress enough how much this helped.
I really appreciate you explaining in depth how to send a package. It's one of those things people assume we know how to do, but none of us actually know how to do it.
Definitely one of those things that should have been taught in a "Basic living" class in highschool instead of learning about an old mining town that burning underground because of some coal.
@@michaellennerman7844 right? they teach us how to write a formal letter but no way of actually sending it (theres also legit no reason to be writing a letter nowadays anyhow aside from email which has formats that write it for you)
Yeah I'm really greatful because having anxiety makes you overtime things you've never done before. Having someone explain even simple things is really nice
Slight warning here: you are not guaranteed to get the same ones back, so if you have special edition themed joycons... you may want to explore options on self-repair, and for the joysticks alone, it's not actually that difficult. Just a tri-wing and phillips screwdriver and some prying tools and that's it.
Just bought a new right joycon a few hours before watching this video because I accidentally fastened the screw so tight from the last time replacing the joystick that the groove in the screw became smooth and now it's stuck. Also, I came to know that you don't have to buy both joycons every time, you can buy just one as well.
@@iihamed711 Someone named VK’s Channel figured out that most joycon drift is caused by the metal housing of the analog stick modules becoming loose over time, causing faulty sensor readings. If you place a 1-2mm piece of cardboard over that metal housing, chances are the added pressure will fix your drift issues.
Always make sure to use the exact size for the screw because if not it will get stripped, that happened to me with some bad screwdrivers that came with a back placement with my switch, but luckily nowhere important
I just wanna say that sometimes I get really bad anxiety over small, seemingly simple tasks like this one, and just having this vid to clearly walk me through it helped a LOT. Thank you

My Joy-Con’s drifted, I got the switch in day one and I didn’t bother buying new ones for a long time, but I gave in and bought new ones, I had Red/blue, now I have neon pink and green, their hella cool. Now my brother is experiencing drift, you just saved him $70 thanks so much
I already bought a new pair after getting drift on my first 2. However, I tend to play with friends on my switch alot and there has to be that one guy who needs to use the drift ones. So I'm thinking of sending them so we can all have a good time again.
Had joycon drift for years now and never bothered to replace my joycons cuz I'm cheap lol. This helped out a lot sending out my joycons tomorrow wish me luck.
Thank you so much! After three years I'm finally running into the infamous drift and it's getting really annoying in the game I'm playing, but I had no idea how to actually go about shipping it off to nintendo. The last time anything like this happened to me was during the DS era and back then I was still a kid.
I used to think for the longest time that Joy-Con drift wouldn't happen to me since I take really good care of stuff. I had my switch for over a year without drift so I assumed it was just a type of defect... Until they both started drifting suddenly and I was proven so wrong. So I went out and bought a pro-controller (cause it's actually worth the money) and played docked exclusively for about 6 months while my Joy-Con sat in a box because I knew I'd find a solution some day. Lo and behold I stumbled onto your video, I always knew that sending them in was an option but you're the one who taught me how brain dead easy and cheap it was so thank you. You have absolutely earned that Insta follow!

I have just bought a Nintendo Switch knowing all the joy con drifting issues and this video has been really reassuring and actually very pleasing to watch. Also, your editing and voice-over suits perfect for this kind of video.
IMPORTANT: It should be noted that Nintendo does not repair any joy con you may send in, they ONLY replace them with a new one. As such, it is recommended that you do NOT send in any special edition joy cons, cause they will not replace them. Nintendo doesn't do repairs, ONLY replacements.
Joycon drift is being handled so differently in Japan - since no one sued. I got the stick replacements and this was so easy and cheap. Many many thanks
@@pokaay3163 especially when a game requires any kind of precision. I died so much on the splatoon 2 octo expansion because my octoling kept walking off ledges
Quick tip for shipping labels: I like to use a sandwich bag or ziplocked bag to protect the label that is usually printed on cheap paper with cheap ink. First, I insert the shipping label so that the front is facing the clear side. Then, I cut off the zipper side and tape the opening shut. Lastly, tape the "laminated" label to the package. Now my shipping label is safe from the elements like rain, snow, or rips and staining. Most times I use duct tape, but regular tape does just fine too. I came up with this idea after having packages lost in the mail because of damage to the shipping label (scraped or the ink ran or smudged).
I've dealt with this problem for at least a year now, not ready to buy new joycons. During camp, i sat next to another person who had trouble with this, but saw your video. He brang his switch and mentioned joycon drift. I asked him about it, and he talked about your video. I was more surprised when he even knew how to fix it. Then when i came home I went STRAIGHT to youtube to find this, and im so greatful you saved me money :D
Hey man, I love your vibe and your message when doing this. The internet can be a pretty horrible place to some people and I'm glad you're focused on helping even just one person! Keep being awesome!
Thank you so much for this! I was searching for new joy cons to buy and stumbled through this. ALSO for anyone filling out the form in 2022, there are not as many things to fill out and that makes it even easier and faster!
In Norway, all electronics by law have to be built to last 2 years, so Nintento legally can't charge for joycon repairs until 2 years after they are bought, and they must repair/ replace them free of charge.
@@butterrabbid426 Yes, but you need to contact the retailer you got them from, and they have to send them in for you. If you got them from Elkjøp you should be able to just walk into the closest store's service section and tell them about your problem. If you got them online, you need to go to the retailer's website's repair section. Either way, you will need the reciept (if you don't have it, it should be possible to call customer service and have them email you an electronic reciept as long as you have some way of finding out what day they were bought).
Wish it was the same in Sweden :( I’ve had my switch since 2017 so the guarantee is no longer working, but my left joy con have had drifting problems since like 2 years back, I have my pro controller so I’ve procrastinated it (so really I have only my self to blame rly haha) but it’s still annoying that still after this time there still isn’t any good communication with Nintendo directly, and Europe is not a priority but whatever, I guess I have to buy replacement items from like eBay hahah
These nothing clashing with those two values. Grab a mask so you won't get sick or maybe get someone sick. That's not wanting to harm an individual who maybe has a family or can't afford to take time off sick from work. Stealing the equivalent of 3 dollars from Walmart does nothing to them. They are a faceless, monolithic corporation that actively destroys lives, ruins small towns, underpays employees and leeches off the government. Fuck Walmart, steal more from them if you can!
Hey, me too. I replaced 3, 3 of them were left analogs. Makes Link waddle to his death fighting a lynel. Makes Wolf permanently rake his claws standing still. Lol.
Damn, I could see that getting really annoying, but mine have always been on the right analog, jesus christ, you'd have no idea how hard it is to aim in Splatoon and Fortnite when it suddenly decides to look entirely behind me
I've exclusively had drift on my left analog sticks. Thankfully, my new Hori Split Pad Joycons only drift occasionally, but it really sucks that my official Nintendo cons don't work, since they're the only controllers I have that work with HD Rumble, Amiibo, and motion sensors. In terms of Amiibo support, I sometimes use my non-drifting right Joycon with the Hori left and it works great, but if I wanna play Splatoon 2, moving the camera is much easier with official Joycons since the motion support allows for camera movement via tilting the controller. It works so much better that way, and yet I can't play how I want to unless I use my knockoff pro controller, which I don't do very often, since I'm in the minority group of Switch users and I far prefer playing handheld
The right joystick on my right joycon is drifting terribly. I'm just trying to play rocket league and splatoon and 3d world and Odyssey and ninjala in peace
Thank you my man for posting this video I've been looking for a solution for Joy con drift for quite a while specially cuz my joycons started getting drifty
I hate that video. It's based on nothing. Actually really pisses me off. Nintendo is NOT trying to get you to buy more joy-con to replace your broken ones, and they do acknowledge drift and repair it for free. People don't understand that companies hardly make any profit off of hardware sales, in fact sometimes it's even sold at a loss.
@@pie4breakfast_drums Didn't Nintendo only start free repairs because people were upset or they got sued? Mind you if Nintendo didn't want us to buy new Joycons once ours start drifting they would probably be fixed by now or at the very least Nintendo would actually address Joycon Drift as a genuine issue which they don't (And if you're gonna say something about the repairs if I'm not mistaken Nintendo doesn't state outright that free repairs are for Joycon drift right? They just beat around the bush and imply it's for Joycon drift)

It is always best practice to detach any ribbon cables, especially as a beginner. Even pros slip from time to time and ribbon cables rip very easily. Also when doing any repair like this, track the screws for the first couple of times by placing them on the side in the general layout you unscrewed them in. Having a video tutorial on hand while performing a repair also comes in handy.
Thanks man, that's hella useful! Also little tip to everyone seeing this: if you aren't good at repairing stuff, then i would NOT recommend replacing your joysticks, i tried it that one time but the new ones broke faster than the ones i had before
Your step by step was great beginning to end. Yes I had previously sent one of my joy come to Nintendo and got it back after a short while. But another controller began to drift. I ordered a kit, it came with all of the tools necessary to make the fix. There are many videos to show how to disassemble/reassemble, but I was able to follow yours and now working perfectly. Thank you for making this video!
First off I wanna say thank you for posting this. This was actually very helpful. Secondly, at first I was actually very skeptical because I did not see any testimonies in the comment section but after going ahead and doing the mailing option it actually does work. Had a bit of a hiccup with my location but I was able to find a workaround. But yes after sending in both my joy cons they both came back completely repaired without the drift and it cost me nothing (because I already had the packing material already)

So my friend at school had drift and they said they were gonna buy a repair kit but I kept telling them to send them to Nintendo, I actually kinda got mad at them when they didn’t send them to Nintendo
Honesty I’d would fix it myself then send it to them. When I was a kid I sent my 3Ds for warranty and I did not get the same console back. I also lost a time of data I bought from Nintendo.
Nintendo already has some class action lawsuits lined up against them over this. Fixing them for free or not, it's a massive inconvenience and a clear design flaw.
Just send them in and use a gamecube controller for like a week. That's still a year of not worrying about drift, nonetheless it's still a bullshit problem. I hate that we even have to send them in. Nintendo should stop focusing on portability the next console so that the controller can be better and they even would make more money, because if they released a portable console they'd get hella sales there too.
@@stinky_dookie What does portability have to do with. I own pretty much all of Nintendo's prior handhelds, and the only one I had trouble with was a GBA's shoulder buttons going bad. The controller could already be better if Nintendo would stop cheaping out.
@@benjamincrew1949 they crammed so much into those tiny uncomfortable controllers, no wonder they always funk out.

I work for FedEx and people like you are a blessing.
I use clear packing tape and use it to "laminate" the label by taping over the whole label except for the barcode since it asks to not tape over it.

@@butterrabbid426 Yes, but you need to contact the retailer you got them from, and they have to send them in for you. Hey, me too. I replaced 3, 3 of them were left analogs. Makes Link waddle to his death fighting a lynel. Makes Wolf permanently rake his claws standing still. Lol.
Damn, I could see that getting really annoying, but mine have always been on the right analog, jesus christ, you'd have no idea how hard it is to aim in Splatoon and Fortnite when it suddenly decides to look entirely behind me
It’s usually because left gets abused more often

You sent them on March 13th and got them back... also on March 13th?
@@KT-rp9tx i sent them to nintendo on the 13th and got them back later in early april, however when i got them back i forgot about my comment and lost track of time. So j dont have an exact date, i know they came back before 3 weeks i just dont know the specific date, thx for catching my error
I don't even know why I'm watching this.
Bro I don't even have a switch.
I live in mexico lol
I’m eating french fries for breakfast lol
Note: The site has updated a little bit so it won’t look exactly like the old version, benefits are you don’t have to type your switch serial number and they fix SOME special joycons. The process is relatively the same though
Great video! I usually clean my sticks with rubbing alcohol and it actually works great! I have replaced sticks in my other joy-cons and it’s quite the easy fix. I hope more people use all the different methods to help prevent drift!
My only issue with the service is that it does unfortunately take a long time before I got my joy con back after requesting to get it repaired. Other than that, you'll need some patience and it's worth saving the money.
I managed to get mine back after a week. :o I live in the US. I wonder if the location I sent it to was closer than yours.
@@BeckyNosferatu Maybe! If so lucky you, regardless getting your joycons repaired for just shipping instead of buying 60 - 80 bucks is more worth it to me lol :>
@@pikaloco285 Oh I agree, cause you shouldn't even pay for shipping, Nintendo does that.
It WORKED!! I can't beleive it was that simple, THX!
I'm so glad you also had a tutorial for replacing it yourself... just swapped out the shell on my joycons so option A was immediately out of the question XD
My right Joycon drifts a lot when I’m playing games it’s been Making my character spin around in full circles
3:48 where do i find my "repair number" and do we put that paper in the package with the joycons?
The Repair number will be given by Nintendo from the email
and
Yes
I sent my joycons to Nintendo a while ago and have been using some extras my dad has (he uses a pro controller mainly) but according to Nintendo they never received my joycons. We checked with the post office we sent them through and they said they were sent so we have no clue what happened to them.
I have them
call customer service and nintendo will send you new ones
TriHard 7 mine now
all of ya are dumb, his joycons are mine now.
@@jfbsjsnsn8784 we did and Nintendo basically "idk fuck u"
Thanks dude, I didn’t get rid of my drift controls bought some new ones , now I’ll have a extra pair
