I use Aqua Net hairspray as a solvent for changing grips...old trick from changing grips on my BMX bikes when I was a kid. It works great as a lubricant, and it dries tacky for some added adhesive to the grip tape. PS - Good video...I change my grips in my kitchen too :)
hey , thanks for the instruction! I followed your steps ( which made it alot easier) and got my grip on no worries thanks mate ... Brian from Australia 🇦🇺
hey, thanks for a watch and appriciate the comments, keep them coming, i did have out of shot an old bucket to catch all the liquid. I'm not brave enough to pour straight onto the floor :)
The shaft fit so tight the grip sheared off most of the adhesive on the tape. Drop the grip in boiling water for 15 seconds, by expanding the grip it will be easier to slide onto the shaft.
@@WilliamMurfittGolf peel off the paper. use hot water and nail to remover any stubborn bits. then get wd40 and spray on the glue residue. use cotton rag to rub off. the glue will come away like magic. just did this and couldn't believe how easily the glue came off with the wd40
Frederick Roberts hey of course if you share via Facebook please tag William murfitt golf and via Twitter @murfittwilliam. thanks for the watch. great to see people enjoying my content :)
So you can do it that way... But it is a putter very unlikely the grip would come flying off. I simply put air to the old grip a little hole in the end grip slides off maybe 5 seconds. I don't remove the tape why bother tape was fine I didn't even bother putting the solution on to make it slippery simply put the new super grip to the end hit it with air slide it on turned it a little bit so it was lined up done. I do have a rubber fitting for my vice because I change my grips once a year. But gosh just get yourself an air compressor and this job takes about 1 minute. he certainly don't need to cut grips off just hit him with air and pull them off Hit the new one with air put it on I usually can use the tape over and over again. IMHO.
Thanks for the video. I have just purchased a Super Stroke 3.0 grip and I can see that your shaft is graded upwards in size I.e. it gradually gets bigger towards the grip end. Is this a problem fitting the grip? Worried i will remove my current grip and the shaft is going to be massive at the end 😬
Just found this video after changing two grips on my wedges. My first attempt, I found some double sided tape in the loft, applied the white spirit as shown but the new grip simply got stuck within 3 seconds and not even half way up the shaft! Does certain tape and adhesive/lubricant work differently together I presume?
I’ve used this method on many clubs now, it would seem that the putter grips are always the hardest. Not sure if the type of tape used makes a difference, Ive since ordered golf grip tape on line so maybe it’s better than standard double sided
Raymo Mull ha ha ha i had one season out of it, and would have continued to used but felt pains in my hands while practicing for long periods of time the bigger grip suites me much better :) 20 years may be a bit extreme though... most used club in the bag 😂
David Vota hey, thanks for the watch and comment I worked over a bucket, given the grips solidness, a vice wasn't really needed. However If this was a normal grip I'd always use a vice. Please subscribe to my channel for more content coming soon 😁
I'll be honest with you, i never knew that was the case. i did have a song throughout the whole vid but it was copyrighted so had to change it.. i'll try and see what i can do to change this to go the entire length of the vid. Many thanks for your comment
Ok, I can't stand it! The first thing you do is place the putter in a vice, then using a level you set the putter face at exactly vertical (using a bubble) when you put the grip on the shaft, you use the level to make sure the flat spot on the grip is dead level (using a bubble) if the flat spot is not perfectly level from top to bottom and exactly 90 degrees to the club face, you will have difficulty keeping the face of the putter exactly flat to the putting line
thanks for your input, i'm no professional and did this as a quick install. the fact you know how to install a putter grip would suggest you have no need to be watching the video in the first place. i look forward to watching your video of how to 'properly' install a putter grip
@@Thrandweel thanks very much. i'm no professional i just enjoy making videos and putting them out to the public for viewing. thanks for your support : )

I use a solvent much like white spirit. but an odourless one. so it can be used inside. any DIY store you can purchase this from and even some supermarkets. There are special grip solvents on the market but I've never personally used one of these.
Jack DiGiovanni hey, thanks for watching and commenting. I used white spirit it's normally used for cleaning paint from brushes, and oderless so can be used indoors :)
kungfu panda the solvent gets swished around on the trip and then poured over the tape on club before pushing the grip into place. Unfortunately my hands went put of shot!
hey, thank you for your comment, this was one of my first videos that hopefully i have improved my content somewhat since this date. i hope that overall the 'how to' content gets across. maybe another video is needed to further explain what needs to be done to change a grip?
William Murfitt Golf I’m inspired. I’m running over to the golf store today to buy the new grip. I’ll do the regrip in my garage so as not to upset the wife.
Cheers James, this grip wasn't on for all that long so the tape came off ok. But other clubs I've done that will be a big help going forward thank you

Dave McKelvey I did the same thing, as I raced a lot of motocross and hare & hound in the 80's. It works great! ( Just no safety wire. )
Take a blow torch to the old tape. Don't burn, just heat. It will reactivate the adhesive and make removal night an day easier! Good luck

That's excellent news, thanks for the feed back and congratulations for a successful install.
Classic doing this in your kitchen! Good job. When I've regripped my clubs I do it over the tub. Easier to clean up, At least for me anyway.

I like that you did it with a vice and that you struggled. I’m about to do my first grip change 🙀
Mike Wynn for sure use a vise grip
The shaft fit so tight the grip sheared off most of the adhesive on the tape. Drop the grip in boiling water for 15 seconds, by expanding the grip it will be easier to slide onto the shaft.
That’s a really helpful tip
Just fitted my new super stroke, thanks so much!
you're welcome
If you heat the old tape up with a heat gun or hair drier it comes off much easier.
hi James, thats a great tip. thanks for watching :)

Buy a shaft clamp and put the club in a vise. Will make it so much easier for you
I now have these and a vice clamp too

they typically have a tapered shaft around the neck of the putter, its unlikely if its tapered to the butt of the shaft it will be noriceable
Awesome music!
I feel like you may be having a joke here as all the other comments are about how awful the music is... but appreciate it never the less

White spirit

You don't need to take the old tape off FYI

Curtis Lockard so leave the old tape on and reuse it? Or new tape over the old tape?
Always take the old tape off 🤦♂️

White Spirit

Cannot understand why people think its better to put music on then make viewers read. Why not just explain what you are doing while you do it?
it's easier to make the video from my point of veiw, i did another video on changing a grip that had no where near the amount of views of this one.

kungfu panda I would suggest not but can't say I've tried this...

What do you use as a solvent
I use an odourless white spirit, seems to do the job well.
No music!
Sorry
So did you pour out the solvent? Or is there solvent in the shaft? Everytime you swing, will it feel like a half empty water bottle.
kungfu panda the solvent gets swished around on the trip and then poured over the tape on club before pushing the grip into place. Unfortunately my hands went put of shot!
Would be good if the camera was pointed in the right direction

Do you really use carpet tape?
Better let professionals do it.
Let a professional explain how this really works.
yes, this is what i use double sided tape, and in fact many professionals also use similar if not the same to install grips.
