Hey fella, I learned this game when I was like 6. My mom was a semi pro at solitaire. Since we couldn't afford a computer in the late 90's, she would hop in the cab to a friend's office who had this game on his computer and play as long as she could. I actually have a picture of her sitting in front of those old ass computer screens back in 1999 in reach as I type this in :D . Today she still finishes a game in less than 1 min. Having not less than 12k ish She said solitaire is pretty much like poker...the key is not to win every hand, but to analyse a potentially great game and to finish strong using a sharp mind that one must train over and over again. Love this review, thank you for posting it. -Decimus
"Hey, Bob, did you play your hundred games yet?" "Oh, shit! I played one more! That counts as cheating on this weird world epidemic! What will we do?! We're screwed!" lol
#8: mathematicians and theorists actually struggle to calculate the probability to win a game of Solitaire. #7: apparently 79% of the games are theoretically winnable. Well, they don't have to struggle anymore, since gameranx knows the exact probability!
At school, they removed all traces of the windows games from the start menu and the desktop (but not the actual harddrive, for whatever reason) once, because shit did very decidedly not get done in computer class otherwise. Taught me a lot about the folder and/or file structure of Win XP, and about how to handle programming and playing Solitair at the same time, but I have to hand it to my teacher - hiding Solitaire was fairly effective for the five minutes that it lasted.
Number 3 is definitely true. I used to teach new computer users back in the late 90's at my game center and solitaire was the program I would tell them to go home and practice using a mouse on.
When i was a kid back in the 90's, Solitaire once crashed my computer during the winning card stream thing... And now i am forever fearful of it. True story.
Despite all the video games and board games I play all the time, Solitaire is still probably one of my most played games ever, especially if I include variants like Spider Solitaire or the Churchill Solitaire mobile app that Donald Rumsfeld produced (which is surprisingly fun!) So yeah, you won't see me making fun of this top 10 list, solitaire is great. :)
I feel sorry for this man, Wes Cherry. Creating such an influential game and no credit. His name isn't even the first to come up when you look up the game!
Lothar Meyer was developing the periodic table at the same time as Dmitri Mendeleev and created a scheme nearly identical to Dmitri's. The periodic table was constructed from similar chemical and physical properties in elements and in an order of atomic weight, also there were elements that hadn't been found yet but fit into the scheme as the scheme accounted for atomic weight and could accommodate this and it was even expected that these gaps existed in specific places. So saying solitaire had some influence is more anecdotal than anything else.
Wow. Gameranx, I gotta say, bravo. Very well researched and you made an amazingly informative video on solitaire. Flippin' solitaire. I liked this video a lot. Can't wait for the next video. Keep er' going with the amazing content. :]
Fact three was the most interesting, I didn't know that the people of the past, had problems with drag and drop, but now I know why this game exist, and why I am doinig the daly challenge every day :D
I heard somewhere that if you shuffled a deck of cards once every 3 seconds, took a step forward once every million years, and take a teaspoon out of the ocean with every step, you'd drain the ocean, and walk around the earth once and you'd only be 1/3rd of the way of shuffling the deck every possible way
"its not like you get trophies or achievements or theres leader boards or anything" on my windows phone the worst phone out there i can unlock achievements for Klondike and theres leader boards that are linked to my gamertag ._.
That last comparison does make sense if you think about it. How many internet browsers do most people use mainly? Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari etc. How many Windows solitaire versions to people play? Windows solitaire. (not including copies or clones) Side question, who remembers Netscape Navigator?
gameranx, please,I love you guys, you are up there with my top 3 channels which includes PlayStation access, outsidexbox, and u guys. but your latest videos has me worried you are turning into the next watchmojo
I once spent an entire swimming carnival on solitaire as I wasn't swimming. Kept breaking my own PB and got under a minute completion time. It was so fun
A relative once kicked me off the computer for "always playing pointless video games"...she then began playing Solitaire. I told her that Solitaire is technically a video game because it uses a video component and is, in essence, a game...she then kicked me out of the house.
Fun fact: When you shuffle a deck of playing cards, there is very little chance that anyone in history has ever had that exact same combination of cards.
10 facts about Solitaire. Doesn't mention that there are so many solitaire games, or the fact that the name basically means a game that you play solitarily (alone).
+the truth The sad part is a lot of people don't actually know that that is the reason it is called solitaire. You overestimate the intelligence of the average American, especially the younger ones.
QuickNET Tech Most of my fellow US citizens aren't stupid, and it would ignorant if you were to think so. The reason why everyone thinks we're highly unintelligent is because the stupid ones here are louder. As the saying goes, "A few bad apples spoil the bunch.".
+Classy Lizard Man Is Classy True, but most of the people I know (knew actually, I don't socialize much anymore. Been going through a metric shit tonne recently.) were to busy getting drunk and high and the women getting knocked up (3 in the laat 6 months actually). I guess most of that is my fault. The few people I do hang with now could care less about little pieces of random knowledge like that. I guess life clouds my perception a little too easy.
QuickNET Tech Yeah I understand. I grew up in a small town and most of my piers ended up getting someone kocked up, or getting kocked up themselves, and a lot of them did meth. Yeah, for awhile there my surroundings blinded my perception of other people for awhile until I moved somewhere else
Oh no! Gameranx contrapted the watchmojo syndrome: making videos on weird subjects that no one cares about because they ran out of ideas. Guys, you can still save yourselves, HOLD ON!
Mendeleev didnt create the Modern Periodic Table. It was Henry Mosely who did. Mendeleev made a more sensible periodic table than Dobreiner and the others did. Mendeleev took atomic mass as the basis + Hydrides and oxides made by elements as the main criteria. Henry Mosely took atomic number as the criteria for Modern periodic table. :P
Guess I was lied to? I had a math teacher in highschool who blamed his streak being broken by a janitor losing a game on his computer. Otherwise, he had a ZERO loss streak and he said every game was winnable. Something must be up.
You make one video about an old and unorthodox game and everyone is like "sellout","you're out of ideas","you're the watchmojo of video games. It's variety and originality, not bland.
1:20 Wait Wait Wait you dont think you will make 250k in your life? If work for 50 years , you would have only had to make $5000 a year. thats like 14$ a day :/
"How much did they pay you guys to give Solitaire a good review?"
And no, we haven't ran out of ideas.
+gameranx I never understood Solitaire xD

+gameranx Seven billion dollars. :)

#8: mathematicians and theorists actually struggle to calculate the probability to win a game of Solitaire.
#7: apparently 79% of the games are theoretically winnable.
Well, they don't have to struggle anymore, since gameranx knows the exact probability!
I was not expecting this to be as interesting as it was. I had no idea solitaire had that much importance to Gaming and the Windows OS.
This is the most fun I've gotten from both solitaire and gameranx in quite a while.
At school, they removed all traces of the windows games from the start menu and the desktop (but not the actual harddrive, for whatever reason) once, because shit did very decidedly not get done in computer class otherwise.

Agreed
+crimson2knight
Instead, you find a tropical fruit known as the West Cherry.
Also, are you sure you aren't looking it up on Bing? That's made by Microsoft.
Yup, I google my searches. And it was after my search that I realize his name is spelled Wes instead of West.
+crimson2knight heros don't do their things for personal gain, but for the greater good.

Also, you can play it without a mouse, space to pick up or drop, directional button to move the cursor, F2 for a new game

Fun fact: When you shuffle a deck of playing cards, there is very little chance that anyone in history has ever had that exact same combination of cards.
Back in the day when I got bored I would play draw one timed. I think my shortest game was a little under a minute with a really good hand.

"seven thousand trillion"?
Soooo seven quadrillion then
Don't know how the fuck I enjoyed this video so much. It's fucking solitaire
My record for Solitaire is 21 won games in a row. Man was I pissed to see that 5 of clubs get buried in the 22nd game...
I like how when he is talking about maths, the pic that comes up is a chemistry equation.
You should do another video like this for Minesweeper because that game is awesome!
Edge is actually a really good browser, I like it and it's tough to decide between chrome and edge.
Oh no! Gameranx contrapted the watchmojo syndrome: making videos on weird subjects that no one cares about because they ran out of ideas. Guys, you can still save yourselves, HOLD ON!
I loved the periodic table fact, very good video., also tetris used to have the boss button.
I feel like this should have been titled: "10 Things you never needed to know about solitaire", but still great video as always!
Now you can get the new deck only for 19.99€. Ace of Clubs now available for 3.95€.

you needed really strong CPU for that win game card animation, far above the recommended specs for windows 3.
Guess I was lied to? I had a math teacher in highschool who blamed his streak being broken by a janitor losing a game on his computer. Otherwise, he had a ZERO loss streak and he said every game was winnable. Something must be up.
First game I always download on every new smartphone I buy!
This video was kind of random but I liked it.
It's always the mundane shit that I don't expect which ends up having all of these ridiculously complex facts and stories attached to it.
"Mathematicians and theorists calculated the probability of..." *shows photo of a chemistry equation*
You make one video about an old and unorthodox game and everyone is like "sellout","you're out of ideas","you're the watchmojo of video games. It's variety and originality, not bland.
My grandma plays solitaire. She used to call me over to see the cards cascade at the end.
There are more combinations of ways to arrange a deck of cards, than there are atoms on earth.
When nothing else is happening for top tens so you do this, papa bless
"7 thousand trillion" So, y'know, seven quadrillion? That is a word y'know.
1:20 Wait Wait Wait you dont think you will make 250k in your life? If work for 50 years , you would have only had to make $5000 a year. thats like 14$ a day :/
