      Yeah you would want to look for “rifled slugs” for smooth bore barrels. They have some rifling on the round itself that helps with accuracy. These and also the “sabot” slugs are likely designed for rifled shotgun barrels. Why use a rifled barrel shotgun instead of… idk a rifle? Who knows, honestly.

      @Steve-ev6vx 3 месяца назад +40

      @@Ineeadifferentusernamelol Some states won't let you deer hunt with rifles, hence muzzleloader and rifled slug gun development. Russia also has a big market for a variety of self stabilizing slugs because smooth bore shotguns are their only legal option.

    Hornady SST Sabot slugs. Flat out drops deer at 150 yards. Nothing discernable of a heart left. They drop, exhale and expire. Amazing rounds for a shotgun. Since they are Sabot rounds, you need to use a rifled shotgun barrel. Nothing exotic about them other than the range and power for a shotgun.

    Sabot slugs, like the other guy said, are made for rifled barrels. What you want for a smooth bore are rifled foster slugs; they have “rifling” molded into the projectile and work rather well for standard white tail distances. (Always be sure to make sure you’ve got a proper choke for slugs as well, though with a shotgun like that I can’t imagine it’s not a cylinder bore)

      @@bryantb3391 maybe? i don’t know. the main reason that foster slugs have those grooves is so that they’re safe to fire out of a choked barrel, the ‘rifling’ will swage down when you fire it through a modified choke or some other choke, allowing you to use them in a choked gun (to a certain point, wouldn’t recommend it will a full choke) without blowing the end of the barrel or the choke tube off

These are just a sabot slug through the wrong gun, if shooting through smooth bore will make round key hole or tumble because its not engaged to spin correctly.

    That sabot slug is 100% designed to be used in rifled shotgun barrels. Many US states do NOT allow deer hunting with rifles and/ or bottle neck ctgs. It's even more restricted in many more countries, hence the Forster style / self.stabilizing slugs for smooth bored bbls. Quite often, rifled shotgun bbls + properly designed sabot slugs provide extended effective ranges. My very best 12ga rifled barrels are Hastings (Verney.Carron), Remington & Mossberg. Most rifled bbls are available w/ open rifle- style sights or cantilever rails for optics.

    Out of a smoothbore, it's got to be Brenneke or the original sabots that were designed for smoothbores. Those modern sabots are squirelly if they aren't stabilized, but fantasyic on game when they are.

    Dont listen to the ones that say a smooth bore wont shoot a sabot straight it hit straight an it will fly straight within 100yd anything more it may tumble but short range it dont an up to 100yd it wont

      You guys should not be giving any kind of gun advice. Sabot slugs made for rifle barrels the slug he just pulled out of the dirt hit backwards lol at 10 yards. No a rifled slug or foster slug is made for the barrel he has a smooth bore or field barrel is another term used. Jackasses

    They're far from exotic, i can find them at any sporting goods store here in ontario. But a sabot slug needs a rifled barrel to shoot right. Otherwise they'll tumble and accuracy can be spotty
