[HD] Chasing the Buckingham Branch! (Live Interchange, Switching, and More!)

- In this video we take a tour of CSX's Piedmont Subdivision, what I call my home territory! We get to see 2 Buckingham Branch jobs interchange at the Dominion Spur at the 5:28 mark, and follow both jobs to an from the interchange. Luckily for us we got two west facing engines, 12 & 5. It was quite nice to hear BB 5's P5 flying by at every crossing, and I'll never get tited of the classic clickity-clack sound of jointed rail! I've shot the Buckingham Branch too many times to count, but I shot a couple angles that I hadn't before in this video, and I was very happy with the results to say the least. Also a special thanks to my girlfriend Amanda for holding the video camera for the pacing shot. 😉 I have lots more footage yet to be uploaded which I am more than excited to share in the coming future. As always I want to thank everyone for watching and I hope you all enjoy! (3/10/23)

12's horn is immaculate, and 5's is a screamer! Excellent shots of this shortline! You need more subscribers!
Thank you very much! I appreciate it!!
The BB was the only line up in the Shenandoah Valley I didn’t get to catch when I wound up in the area a few years back. Definitely at the top of my list if I ever go back. Enjoyed your coverage! Look forward to more content!
The BB operations on the North Mountain have always interested me, but being that I live 5 minutes from Beaverdam I stick more to the east side of things. I hope to get out that way some time soon though
100% great video footage of a railroad that reminds me of our NB Southern railway. thank you.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed!
Nice hearing the Bluejays singing before the train passes. Nice video
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed!

Neat little yard down there! Squash- a -penny junction or something like that. Great video. Just subscribed too
Doswell is only 15 minutes from my house! Spent plenty of time down there and have no complaints, glad you enjoyed!
Impressive video!!!
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed!
@@SRFSS Your welcome and, I’m new sub here too!!! 🙏👍👏
Not the greatest of rail to run on, but I have to say that is an AWESOME Nathan K5LA on that engine 12 ... 👍👍
BB has some pretty nice horns on most of their roster. I have to say 5 and 12 are some of the best!
W video
💯
That's some smartly painted locomotives. Amazing sound in the opening shot there. Bumpass? 🤨
I love the BB scheme even though it gets its fair share of criticism, I love the vibrant red and yellow. But yes it's pronounced Bump-is haha
Hope you catch BB up in Afton going over to Waynesboro.
I've caught them crossing over NS in Waynesboro before, here's the Flickr link!

I see it has the old jointed rail on it probably left over from the old C&O days.
Yes sir! All original jointed rail that is now strictly on the Piedmont side of things. The further west you go it turns into CWR so they can raise speeds for Amtrak.
Bumpass? Interesting name. Virginia is for lovers, after all? lol
Haha, not the first time I've heard that. Bumpass is my hometown and I hear a lot of jokes about it, but I love it no matter how bad it sounds lol
That's a p5 you don't hear everyday
I initially thought it was a P3, but it's definitely a little out of the ordinary!
Does Amtrak use the same rails?
I think they use the line starting in Gordonsville VA where the Washington subdivision meets.
Amtrak runs between Clifton Forge, VA and Gordonsville, VA via Buckingham Branch. The only shots in this video that Amtrak utilizes is Lindsay and Gordonsville, the rest is all BB &CSX
Why is it called a turn?
It's a turn job meaning it runs from Doswell to Louisa, then "turns around" and runs back to its starting terminal
What does CA mean?
CA is the prefix used by CSX that denotes the fact that it's the Piedmont Subdivision. Another example would be that The RF&P mileposts start with CFQ. Every line has their own prefix so they can be told apart
@SRF O OK and I thought this was BB branch line and that CSX had trackage rights to this line?
@LeoNation 89 Buckingham Branch recently bought this technical main line from CSX early last year, and yes CSX has trackage rights to run empty coal & grain trains across it
Judging by the track condition at 1:39 Bumpas VA, should be called bumps VA😄
Jointed rail will do that to ya! It is a pretty funny name but it's my hometown do I try to embrace it haha
