[HD] An Afternoon Across The North Mountain Subdivision!
I know I've taken quite the hiatus from uploading as of recent but I am hoping to turn that around! This video showcases sone operations across the former CSX, now owned by Buckingham Branch, North Mountain Subdivision. We even get to see the CSX crew make a stop in Goshen to pick up some groceries, something I had never seen in person before. This video was filmed before all of the hype and chaos that ensued in the fall of last year surrounding 611, and is plenty proof that the North Mountain Sub is a gorgeous stretch of railroading through the Shenandoah Valley even without steam! We also get to see BB interchange with the Shenandoah Valley RRailroad in staunton which made for a cool si...

[HD] Rare Modern Freight Moved by Steam on the Everett Railroad!

Well I'm back after a bit of a hiatus, and now with better internet I can hopefully start producing more content at a faster rate for you all to enjoy! In this video we start off by seeing NS 10K in downtown Altoona, PA in some nice morning light before getting to check out a relatively rare occurrence on the Everett Railroad seeing modern freight being pulled by the EV's oil burning Mogul #11....
[HD] Union Pacific 1988 "The Katy" Traverses the Shenandoah Valley!

Train of the year hands down so far. After an exhausting day spent in the Roanoke Area, I was awoken to the sound of "13Z has the Katy!" being repeated over and over again. My friend Virginia Trains (youtube.com/@virginiatrains7886) and I immediately jumped out of bed and headed over the valley. We met up with a couple of friends and started at the control point at Bentonville, following in hot...
[HD] CSX Geometry Train & SD70MAC Leader on Jointed Rail!
Просмотров 258Год назад
This video was definitely random for me. Normally I upload things that are relatively rare and of special interest, however, this was just a regular kind of day for me. I was fortunate enough to catch the Geometry Train headed east towards CSX's Peninsula Sub in the morning, and after running errands was lucky enough to pick up a westbound Mac leader on my home rails, the Piedmont Sub. Not much...
[HD] Chasing NS Hollidaysburg Local HI-10! (Amtrak Un & Offloading, NS 5642 and More!)
Просмотров 246Год назад
In this video we chase one of my favorite trains based out of Altoona ranking probably 2nd to C42! NS HI-10, formerly known as CB-10 is a Monday-Friday local that runs down the Cove Secondary from Rose Yard in Altoona to Hollidaysburg, interchanging with the Everett Railroad, which is another video I'll have uploaded sooner or later. Along with interchanging with Everett, they are garunteed to ...
[HD] Chasing the Norfolk Southern OCS For 60 Miles!
Просмотров 283Год назад
This video is ironically being uploaded almost exactly a year after it was initially recorded, as it has sat on the back burner for quite a while with other projects being in the works. First I'd like to apologize for the substantial amount of shakiness in the video, as traffic made it very difficult to have time to fully set up. This chase was one of the most difficult, challenging and fun one...
[HD] Chasing the Buckingham Branch! (Live Interchange, Switching, and More!)
Просмотров 9 тыс.Год назад
In this video we take a tour of CSX's Piedmont Subdivision, what I call my home territory! We get to see 2 Buckingham Branch jobs interchange at the Dominion Spur at the 5:28 mark, and follow both jobs to an from the interchange. Luckily for us we got two west facing engines, 12 & 5. It was quite nice to hear BB 5's P5 flying by at every crossing, and I'll never get tited of the classic clickit...
[HD] Chasing NS 911 on the Bayard Route!
Просмотров 517Год назад
In this video we take a trip to western PA/eastern Ohio! Recently NS 911 has been placed into service on local service running between Mingo Junction and Conway, running as C54 eastbound in the morning, then upon completing their yard work returning west as C65. They typically leave Conway anywhere in the neighborhood of 12-1pm 7 days a week, and are garunteed to make for a fun chase. Also of n...
[HD] Chasing a Loaded Grain Train up the RJ Corman PA Line!
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.Год назад
First and foremost I'd like to apologize for the severe amounts of wind that can be heard through out the video, I really need to invest in a wind mic! But regardless, in this video we get to chase something that's been on my bucket list for the longest time since moving here to Altoona, and that is chasing the RJ Corman! RJC is known to be very illusive up here, running sporadically whenever t...
[HD] NS 5642 Leads 052 High and Wide Move!
Просмотров 324Год назад
In this quick video we make run down to the downtown Altoona Amtrak station to see a rare dimensional move! A couple of friends and I heard of this high and wide move and were shocked to hear that 5642 was leading of all things! Very short video I know but I found it interesting enough to share. Normal length videos will be coming soon, so as always be sure to stay on the look out for more cont...
[HD] Chasing The South Branch Valley Railroad & More!
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.Год назад
In this video we spend a day on the South Branch Valley Railroad as they make their run from Petersburg to Green Spring, WV! The SBVR is State-owned and operated, and has 50 miles of track that also plays host to the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad. Running push-pull style worked out better than expected, due to the lighting becoming progressively better for southbound shots. We first see the spl...
[HD] Action On CSX's Sandpatch Grade! (Switching, Hot Axle, and More)
Просмотров 11 тыс.Год назад
In this video we spend a day along CSX's Keystone Subdivision! A day that was supposed to be dedicated to chasing the Rockwood to Johnstown local, was happily spent chasing trains between Rockwood, PA and Cumberland, MD. Alternatively known as the Sandpatch Subdivision, is known for its decreasing levels of traffic, so being able to chase not only 1776, but a Yn2 Duo as well was a real treat! T...
[HD] The 80th Annual CSX Santa Train!

In this video we take a trip into previously uncharted territory on former Clinchfield trackage! The CSX Santa Train is a well known event to railfans young and old, and myself along with a couple of friends were more than excited to get the opportunity to go down and see it for the first time since 2019. CSX's beautiful B&O inspired OCS was given the honors of hosting Santa Claus, and seeing t...
[HD] A Day On Norfolk Southern's Pittsburgh Line!

In this video we take a day off from college life and spend some time on the Pitt Line! A pretty good day out none the less, foreign power, CWR train, and multiple heritage leaders! I have had quite the time attending Penn State Altoona so far, and living near the PitL has been fun as well. I have been planning sort of a montage of trains I've been able to catch over the past couple of months, ...
[HD] Bulldozer Exports on NS 054!

Well this is the first video back from a small hiatus, and one that I actually filmed today. A bit of a funny story on this train: it passed the Virtual Railfan Horseshoe Curve cam at 08:18 in the morning, and then took it until 11:50 to depart Rose Yard in Altoona, only 8 miles difference! I'm hoping to get into editing some more videos soon, but with the biggest changes of my life taking plac...

How did I never see this
This railroad runs on some of the old Atlantic and Yadkin railroad line right?
Great video man!! That’s some gorgeous scenery out there, having some good looking power to chase around always makes it better!
Killer video bud!! You had this well covered! Oh and watch those shutter clicks will ya! 😆😅
I can’t tell if that’s the original p5 on #17 when it was still a high hood or if it’s a new one but either or the Nathan P5 is one of my favorite train horns
Love The Horn On The Buckingham Branch
I agree, it's one of my favorites!
Great catches and nice video
Good morning
Very nice video bud!! That’s a killer duo on HI-10 too, it seems difficult to find the 5300 geeps anymore!
I was thinking of going out here in 2024 (I live out west), but I noticed that you said that traffic has declined. How many trains go through here during daylight hours (in your estimation)?
First I'd say it absolutely 100% is worth a visit if you can, but to answer your question: it can vary day to day but you're at least garunteed 2 Amtraks. Traffic has sort of picked up since this video, so I'd estimate anywhere between 2-10 trains a day give or take
@@SRFSS Thanks for the quick response. Is the 2-10 trains per day in the daylight or just overall for a 24 hour period? I know that the Horseshoe Curve is also out there. I am thinking that if I visit, I would want to go for 8 to 9 days. Are there other places to railfan out there during that time?
great catches and video of this CSX Santa train nice horn salutes too
They still have their sd40-2s
Great to hear you’re at Penn State! I want to go there! You aren’t by chance in the RTE program are you?
12's horn is immaculate, and 5's is a screamer! Excellent shots of this shortline! You need more subscribers!
Thank you very much! I appreciate it!!
Incredible how just one modern boxcar is longer, wider and taller than the steam locomotive with a tender attached!
SRF video ??
This is true
no go back to not uploading for 2 years
Great stuff bud!! Watching a steam engine spot a boxcar in 2022 is next level!
Awesome catches excellent chase and nice video
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed!
You're welcome
Good morning
that’s a good catch
Thank you very much! It's my favorite locomotive out there!
Just stumbled on this channel. I really like your videos. It would be even better if you filmed the entire train, not just the first few cars.
Thank you very much! I appreciate the support and advice, however typically during the chase I don't stick around to film the entire train due to wanting to get ahead to the next spot. Also filming the entire train with no cuts or editing typically results in losing the audiences attention
1:12 Kinda weird to hear an EMD Geep make that GE type of noise, after the compressor starts to come on.
I'm not sure I really know what you mean, I didn't hear much of anything that sounded like a GE at all
heriable unit
Bro that verdon shot is sick I’ve wanted to shoot here good for like ever
It’s been two days how have you uploaded this already
Let’s go! Epic video - especially that shot of 125 racing 421!
💯

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
The trestle shot was the one 🙏🙏
Thank ya sir, glad you enjoyed!

💯
Nice video, enjoyed many of the shots you got.
Thank you very much!
Awesome! What's their operating schedule/frequency like?
They run Monday-Thursday every week and are OD 0600 in Moorefield. If you get there in time to catch the crew and ask where they're starting they'll let you know if it'll be in Green Springs or Petersburg.
@SRF awesome! Thank you much
@@WaysideRailography not a problem! Glad you enjoyed!
@@SRFSSDo they make a return trip to Moorefield the same day in the afternoon?
@Arturo Railfanning Productions no, they would do it the next day. If they run from Moorefield to Green Springs one day, then they'll do the opposite the next day
Thank God for short lines, they don't get enough thanks for what they do.
Amen to that!
Awesome chase, they're one of my favorites as well
I've always had a love for the YVRR, and I was very happy to chase them after a year of planning. Glad you enjoyed!
100% great video footage of a railroad that reminds me of our NB Southern railway. thank you.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed!
What does CA mean?
CA is the prefix used by CSX that denotes the fact that it's the Piedmont Subdivision. Another example would be that The RF&P mileposts start with CFQ. Every line has their own prefix so they can be told apart
@SRF O OK and I thought this was BB branch line and that CSX had trackage rights to this line?
@LeoNation 89 Buckingham Branch recently bought this technical main line from CSX early last year, and yes CSX has trackage rights to run empty coal & grain trains across it
Great shots there man, looked like a nice chase!
Does Amtrak use the same rails?
I think they use the line starting in Gordonsville VA where the Washington subdivision meets.
Amtrak runs between Clifton Forge, VA and Gordonsville, VA via Buckingham Branch. The only shots in this video that Amtrak utilizes is Lindsay and Gordonsville, the rest is all BB &CSX
Nice hearing the Bluejays singing before the train passes. Nice video
Thank you very much! Glad you enjoyed!
Not the greatest of rail to run on, but I have to say that is an AWESOME Nathan K5LA on that engine 12 ... 👍👍
BB has some pretty nice horns on most of their roster. I have to say 5 and 12 are some of the best!
Bumpass? Interesting name. Virginia is for lovers, after all? lol
Haha, not the first time I've heard that. Bumpass is my hometown and I hear a lot of jokes about it, but I love it no matter how bad it sounds lol
That's some smartly painted locomotives. Amazing sound in the opening shot there. Bumpass? 🤨
I love the BB scheme even though it gets its fair share of criticism, I love the vibrant red and yellow. But yes it's pronounced Bump-is haha
Hope you catch BB up in Afton going over to Waynesboro.
I've caught them crossing over NS in Waynesboro before, here's the Flickr link! flic.kr/p/2oaktqt
Why is it called a turn?
It's a turn job meaning it runs from Doswell to Louisa, then "turns around" and runs back to its starting terminal
A nice video of a rural shortline doing it's thing.
Neat little yard down there! Squash- a -penny junction or something like that. Great video. Just subscribed too
Doswell is only 15 minutes from my house! Spent plenty of time down there and have no complaints, glad you enjoyed!
Judging by the track condition at 1:39 Bumpas VA, should be called bumps VA😄
Jointed rail will do that to ya! It is a pretty funny name but it's my hometown do I try to embrace it haha
@@SRFSS Louisa County
@@leonation89 correct, that's where I live
Sweet chase him a week before you to bad it went West
Yeah, I was actually going to head out there for it again the day that it ended up leaving. Hopefully it'll be bad
great train video
Thank you very much!
Wow. How is that even safe?
They're under Class 3 regulation, they're still running strong today!
Terrible track, hope no hazmat, asking for trouble!!
