I am not a world travelling comedian, but I am 62 and live 2 miles from a distillery in Kenturkey. The holy Trinity from lower to higher price is Jack Daniels whiskey, then Makers Mark bourbon, then Woodford Reserve bourbon. Not counting crazy expensive stuff like Pappy Van Winkle for millionaires flushing money down the toilet (literally). For beer, a crushable cheapie is Milwaukee's Cheapest Ice. Better beer is from New Belgium out of Ashville North Carolina. I avoid wine- just because it is in the Bible does not make it required.
Hey. From your neck of the woods I really like Bulleit as well, both regular and rye are very enjoyable and inexpensive compared to others. Jim Beam doesn't get enough love and IMO bang for buck is great too. Maker's Mark is amazing but holy crap it's expensive this side of the world; I'm from Chile! Regards and enjoy those distilleries.
