Hey thanks so much for the kind words! 😁 I keep thinking that it's annoying when I just keep talking and rambling but I am so happy to hear that you actually like it! :)
Shaun, don't feel bad about metabolism being difficult. It's tough stuff to wrap your head around. I teach biochemistry at a local university and the students are always overwhelmed with metabolism. But once you start to understand and relate it to clinical cases, it'll make a lot of sense. ^_^
Hey Lauren! :) Thanks for the kind words. It really helped me to know other students are overwhelmed and even some of my own classmates feel the same way. I feel like Metabolism is just so much at once, and we have to learn pretty much every major process in just this week! It has been crazy. But thank you so so much! :)
@@ShaunAndersen I think you'll do fine. Especially studying with your classmates and going through those practice questions. You're going to be an awesome physician. :)
Hey man- I'm a second year. If it makes you feel any better once you get through a lot of the not as exhilarating stuff (lots of biochem, anatomy, metabolism, etc), it gets soooo much better and so much more interesting. Love the vids man, I'm rooting for you!
Hey Tyler that is so good to hear 😂 As much as I like metabolism and basic biochemistry, I am very excited to finally get into systems! Thanks so much man!
I'm loving the fact you're highlighting the LIFE of a medical student - not just the study - you're allowed a life! Don't be so hard on yourself if you struggle with some things (anatomy, metabolism) - things slot in to place at different times in your journey - a lot didn't make sense until I was in year 5 (of a 6 year course) -- some things are only now making sense as I come to the end of my fellowship! PS: seeing terms like the TCA cycle and Krebs and whatnot triggered so many bad memories - they're important, of course, but holy heck I haven't seen terms like that in yeaaaaaaaaars!
I’m so excited to follow you all the way through medical school. I’m so happy your channel isn’t pretentious, you make me feel like anyone can make it to Med School if they give it their best. Keep going!
Congratulations on the diploma, loving the content as usual, give us an insight on how you organise the classes, b&b and anki cards on your calendar because I struggle a lot with that. Keep up the good work, the decor is out of this world.
Hey thanks so much!! :) It means a lot to me! && yes I definitely will! Right now I am in an experimental phase and am still not very good at organizing and utilizing my resources efficiently but I will definitely try to get it all figured out and then share it with you guys! :)
Hey Shaun! Just a couple of tips that I learned throughout my first semester of nursing school (the amount of information cannot be compared to first medical of medical school, but): 1) Do not spend most of your time creating studying content that you won’t have enough time studying. 2) PRACTICE QUESTIONS. This I cannot stress enough. You can think of what time of questions will be on the exam once you take your first quiz/exam for that course. 3) Notion for simultaneous notes/studying. Notion offers this AMAZING toggle features which is similar to Quizlet/ANKI in which it lets you hide the information when you want to and once you remember what the answer is then you have the ability to reveal it. 4) Extra: Ali Abdaal changed my life. His RUclips channel is AMAZING. P.s. The RUclips location algorithm is working in your favor because when talking w/ some of my classmates, 3 of them had your channel show up on their main YT page. Best of luck man!!!
Hey man! I always appreciate the advice. Thank you so much! You are right, I try not to spend a lot of time making material rather than just using things that have already been made such as Anki! I just started practice questions and seriously it makes me feel so much better and is a lot more fun to study from! I have been meaning to get Notion because I have heard so many good things about it! I am a huge Ali Abdaal fan and really need to start incorporating more of his methods into my workflow and routine! :o Thanks again man! && That is crazy!! Honestly, I have no idea how all this RUclips stuff and algorithm works 😅 but that seriously makes me so happy that people are findings and enjoying my channel. It means the world to me!
Starting orientation this week at pharmacy school. Got my masters at the same school before getting accepted to their pharmacy program. Biggest thing I learned in the masters program is that consistency is key. I think you’re getting a better handle on your schedule and I have been using Google calendar to keep track of everything, might be something to use to keep yourself grounded in tasks. It also may help plan out your days more. I’ll check in next week! Love the videos, as always, and best of luck on your exam!
Aw man I’m late to the vid. Anyways, great vid! Your videos are always fun to watch. Thanks Abs for the editing! I’ll be wishing you luck on your exam coming up!
Seeing this video brought me back so many memories... I totally identify with you Shaun! At the beginning of med school, it's really a discovery period. Found you from your first week of medical school video!! I love watching your journey along this path!! I'm starting my first semester of college the end of this month, hoping to get into medical school as well. Wish you the best along the way!!
Hey Madison!! :) Thank you so much!! :) I appreciate you watching and supporting my journey! Good luck starting college- you are going to do great! It is tough but very much worth it. Make sure to make time for tons of fun!
I’m not in medical school but I am in Nursing school and your videos give me so much motivation to get a lot of studying done and keep my day productive so thank you! 😊
I love these series of the week in the life of a medical school! I have a path exam tomorrow and you've motivated me to continue studying! Keep this up, i legit see you getting to a million subscribers in the next 4 years 😊
I am so glad you like them!! :) & Thank you so much for the kind words, it means so much to me! :D Good luck on your path exam you are going to do amazing!
“This week was all metabolism..” I feel you!! Just passed my exam of biochemistry that was all about that. Also in med school, struggling! Wish you the best 👍🏻❤️
I love the lights for the patio! I think you should drape them so it looks more casual and you use up that extra bit on the end. I love your videos! They give me so much motivation to try again to get into med school. Good luck on your test!!!
I think I am going to try it out and see how it looks! :o && thank you so much for the kind words, it means a lot to me! I am sure you are going to do AMAZING! Just keep on pushing and working hard :)
We’re rooting for you Shaun!! Remember it’s not gonna be easy but it will definitely be worth it!! (Loll idk how motivating that sounds but YOU GOT THIS)
Another great vlog as usual!! I just finished vlogging my first week but I start classes in the morning so things are about to get real! I love watching your videos for motivation!
I went through optometry school. After four years of that, I have three pieces of advice for those going through professional school. 1. Slow and easy wins the race. 2. Don't fall behind. 3. Find some downtime in the week to deprogram, or you WILL go crazy.
Medical school sounds difficult but for anyone who is able to complete it the rewards and oppertunaties are limitless. I would imagine it is normal to feel overwhelmed as a student but it is normal, will not last forever, and you can get support from classmates and professors.
Another great video bro, I always wake up a bit earlier to be ready and be one of the firsts one to watch your vlogs. Always incredible and fun to watch and congrats on 20k!!!!!!
Hiii Shaun! Congratulations on getting the diploma. Love your decor ideas. It really motivates to see you studying cause it makes me study for my MCAT. Overall a really good video. Looking forward to see more videos. Good luck buddy!! You got this.
Hey there thanks so much!! :) && good luck on your MCAT! I know you are going to do amazing, seriously! It will be done before you know it and then you will be a medical student soon after!
Hey Shaun, I think a good way to organize your videos instead of "A week in Medical School" ( since your getting new subscribers everyday etc) is this way: M1E1, M1E2, M1E3 (1st year medical student, episode 1,2,3 etc); and as you go on to second year: M2E1, M2E2, M2E3 Just my 2 cents. Love watching your vlogs every sunday!!! And thank you so much for being so transparent and real, medical school students always look like they have everything figured out (even when they don't), so to see someone honest and struggle, makes your connection with us that more genuine.
This is definitely a good idea and I will consider it! :o I am just trying to make sure the titles stay simple if possible. But I do like that organization!
Just finishing up biochemistry right now and metabolism was a beast!! I'm a super visual person and I use a program called biorender to make diagrams and pathways. I would highly recommend!
Hey Shaun thanks again for the videos. Your patio looks really nice, congrats. Also I love that board behind you with the drawings !! I would like to know/ request if you could a video/ tutorial on how to use anki for pre-med and medical school students ...
Hey Lara!! Thanks so much! :) Abby actually drew those! I have definitely been asked to make an ANKI video a few times and plan to do so probably after this exam and to make sure I am using ANKI as efficiency as I can be before sharing my advice with others!
Shaun Andersen she is so talented and so supportive, you are very lucky for having someone like her beside you supporting you in this long journey. Good luck in your exam !! I am excited for the video whenever you feel comfortable and familiar using it.
When I was in college I found it nearly impossible to motivate myself to study or do more work then I had too, because of sheer volume of material sometimes. In the back of my head I would be thinking how I am just going to forgot most of it after the test or not even need to know a majority of it based on the questions on the exams. I feel like what you could try to do is find a study buddy that helped me do school work when I had no motivation. Doing school work while someone else is made me feel like working as well because I wasn’t the only one.
Lately I have been studying with some classmates and I have definitely been enjoying it! After this exam, we are planning to meet at least once per week!
I know school is busy but could you try and put out more content in the week? Maybe covering a topic you are studying? I’m currently applying to PA school and these videos are keeping me motivated. Have an interview on the 21st
Since I am still struggling with making a good schedule for school and studying, it is very difficult to be able to put out a second video during the week because of filming time and editing :( Eventually I will though! However, I am going to start doing live streams at least once a week!
C’mon Shaun we need daily videos, tell the gf she better up her editing skills 😜 Jk jk But best of luck on the interview CaveMan (love the name hahaha)
The decor on your outdoor space looks so cool and cozy. I wish I could get something as big as that; I would plant so much carrots and ginger and turmeric and maybe even have a Meyer lemon tree lol. It's great that you have your girlfriend with you to support you during this transition into med school life, what would we do without a good support system? Just let her know that she's garnering a small fan club here on your channel haha. Also, I know you feel like you're under-utilising your time and it's making you feel overwhelmed, but try to focus on the things you have achieved while still working on improving your time management. I actually think that you're doing a fine job of holding yourself together; it's not easy to make videos and tackle school at the same time. It's all part of the process, one day you'll look back on these videos and laugh and I hope you'd film that too. Thank you for sharing Shaun, I hope that us here on RUclips can become a support system for you as well.
We've actually thought about growing things out there too! The idea is definitely a work in progress though😅 And yes she gets very excited when people mention her in the comments haha I am very lucky to have her! Thank you so much for your kind words and your support, it truly means a lot :,)
I think if you are going to vlog in Medical School you can make your titles like: A Week in Medical School (2), etc so the videos are in order otherwise it becomes confusing. BTW love your content, keep it up!
Omg so much in 1 week! But see your figuring how to get a routine. That will constantly change as your comfort changes. Awesome decor job on the patio! Lucky to have such a sweet helpful gf. Your latest plant in the mail looks like a frenchie to me😊 can u please show a onky card? Loved her comment boy to man!❤I must say you sure looked tired a couple of days. Your 1st yr will be the toughest and then u will have a awesome routine. There just throwing it all at you! A make or break you. U got this !🦸♂️🌻
Hey Sherry! 🙌 I always look forward to seeing your sweet comments! I am definitely so lucky to have such a supportive and helpful girlfriend haha she absolutely helps keep me sane!! & of course! I will definitely try to show you guys more Anki cards in the next vlog! :) this week was definitely the most tiring so far but I feel like I am getting closer to figuring out the study habits that work best for me. This is going to be a lot of trial and error! :) Thanks so much for your continued support!
Maybe put the extra bit of lights under the window? Like, let the string go down that wall, turn the corner, and go underneath the windowsill? Idk if it’s long enough, but it might work! (Hope it makes sense lol)
hey! second year med student here, metabolism can be super overwhelming I totally agree with you. Something I found helpful last year was Ninja Nerd youtube videos, he goes pretty in depth into the videos and I felt that it helped me to understand and connect the pathways better than boards did as that's just a review source! He has so many great videos you should definitely check them out!
Saw a lot of comments about changing up the titles. You could also try like including something that happened in the vlog. Like for this one you could say “redoing the patio - med school vlog” or something like that. Great vlog!!
Hey Maddie! I honestly had a feeling there would be comments about it 😅 it is something I have been thinking a lot about too since it seems I will be able to upload weekly! Titles like that are definitely an option I have thought about and have even been trying to put stuff like that in the thumbnails! I will probably figure out titling sometime between now and the next video!
Shaun Andersen you’re doing great honestly! Its super impressive that you’re still uploading through all the studying. Med school is basically a full time job and then some lol
If you liked notability, you should try good notes. There are a lot of comparison videos on RUclips and I found that good notes was a way better option personally! Also, I don’t know if you have one yet but I suggest getting a matte screen protector for your iPad! It helps upgrade your writing experience with the Apple Pencil!
Hey John! :) What features of Goodnotes do you think make it better than Notability? :o I have been considering using it! && yes! I got the paper-like screen protector and it is great!
This is just based off of my experience but I think Good Notes has more flexibility with paper settings and the ability to add PDFs slideshows and other media was something that I felt was better!
If you get hierarchical tags 2 as an add on for ANKI it should be easier to find the tags for the specific videos you're watching. I noticed you didn't have the hierarchy going on and it'll help if you're using a premade deck like Anking
I’ve been religiously making iced coffee at home since I started watching your videos. Couldn’t find caramel creamer anywhere, so I’m secretly glad to hear you’re also using hazelnut! 😂 Literally made one specifically for this vlog. I think this might be my new routine..I can’t wait for the next video already
Ayeeeee Iced Coffee squad! 😂 that is awesome! Iced Coffee has also been new for me since starting Medical School but it is one of those little things that really makes you look forward to getting up and out of bed in the morning! What creamer are you using? :) Thanks for supporting the channel!
I personally buy the Torani syrup flavors so I can switch it up! Hazelnut will always be a favorite. Been really looking coconut flavored coffees lately, inspired by Dutch Bro’s of course
ANKI hack - press command + J to unsuspend (after pressing command + A to select all). Also, download the review heat map ANKI add on! It’s like a reward system that motivates you to do your cards daily, keep your streak going and make your ANKI home screen look more bad@$&!
Hi Shaun! I’m currently a final year high school student in Malaysia studying for my SPM exams and i’ve always dreamed of attending med school and becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon in the future (although that’s still faaaaar away). Thank you so much for all the vlogs that you film and share through RUclips. It really motivates me to study harder and achieve better results. p.s : My mom was just asking me what i was doing and i told her i was being “productive” (watching med school vlogs) although i’m currently having a diagnostic test now bahahahh😂✌️ anyways i wish you all the best for your studies and relationship with your girlfriend (you guys are sooooo cute eeeepp❤️)
Shaun, I can say I thoroughly enjoy your vlogs and your excitement as you progress! I can't wait until this is me! I also had to laugh that your PBL involved Rhabdomyolysis and I have to say from personal experience it is not a fun diagnosis to have. I cannot wait until I get to med school. Thank you so much! I am very excited to get started on the flower bed and hope I find the time to work on it soon!😩🙌
Love the green carpet! Also, the lights r very pretty on the wall
Thank you so much! Abby helped alot to help bring it together!😄
Ohh that Atomic habits thoughhh!! I'm currently reading it and it's so helpfuuuullllllll! Love from the Philippinesss!
Yes!! :) We have loved it so far!! It is such a good book! :)
Keep up the great videos! My only suggestion is to start numbering your week in medical school videos to help keep them in order.
Definitely going to change it up next time because that seems to be a popular request! Thank you! :D
Love coming home from work to watch your videos 🙌
wow that's so sweet! :,)
Can you show us one of your presentations? How do you prepare and how do you fall in love with it?
Yeah I can totally do that! That's a really good idea thank you! :D
Shaun Andersen ofc, love your content btw
Wow, it's so funny how time flies.... New subscriber Shaun 👍❤
It does go by super fast!! :) Thanks so much for the sub!
Don't mention... I'm also a medical student studying in Nigeria... Documenting my journey and other stuffs I love on the street of RUclips 👍❤
Great video yet again. Keep making them and good luck on your exam!
Thank you so much! 🙌
We’re rooting for you Shaun!! Remember it’s not gonna be easy but it will definitely be worth it!! (Loll idk how motivating that sounds but YOU GOT THIS)
Hey Twisha!! :) Thank you so much!! :) I appreciate the encouragement! :D
Another great vlog as usual!! I just finished vlogging my first week but I start classes in the morning so things are about to get real! I love watching your videos for motivation!
Hey Julia congrats!! :) I hope the first week went well! You are going to do great this coming week! Let's go class of 2024! :)
Appreciate the sincerity you put out there Shaun !!
Trying my best to stay as honest and transparent as possible! 🙌 Thanks so much man!
You got this! Remember it will definitely be well worth it in the end.
Thank you so much! I tell myself that everyday 🙏
Man you should have done biochemistry. I learnt about all those metabolic pathways in biochemistry. It’s a lifesaver.
I agree :/ I do wish I had a stronger biochem background!
I went through optometry school. After four years of that, I have three pieces of advice for those going through professional school.
1. Slow and easy wins the race.
2. Don't fall behind.
3. Find some downtime in the week to deprogram, or you WILL go crazy.
Thanks so much man, really hoping I can stick to those three things!🙏
Medical school sounds difficult but for anyone who is able to complete it the rewards and oppertunaties are limitless. I would imagine it is normal to feel overwhelmed as a student but it is normal, will not last forever, and you can get support from classmates and professors.
Exactly! I know it will be tough, but I am excited to grow through it! :)
Overwhelmed is definitely the norm. Shaun is doing great though!!
Another great video bro, I always wake up a bit earlier to be ready and be one of the firsts one to watch your vlogs. Always incredible and fun to watch and congrats on 20k!!!!!!
I always look forward to seeing your comment 🙌 Thank you so much man, I really appreciate your continued support!
@@ShaunAndersen Thank youuu!! I am really looking forward to that day 😌.
Bindu Vemuri best of luck on that MCAT! As Shaun said, you’ll crush it and it’ll all fly by so fast!
@@DrAdamHotchkiss Thank you Dr.Adam Hotchkiss 😊
Bindu Vemuri of course!! I’ll be looking forward to hearing when you get those amazing MCAT scores back!
Your girlfriend is really pretty. You are very lucky to have her. 😍 You guys are made for each other
I am so lucky to have her! Thanks man :,)
This is one of your best videos ever.
Ahhhh thank you so much! :)
Hey Shaun,
I think a good way to organize your videos instead of "A week in Medical School" ( since your getting new subscribers everyday etc) is this way:
M1E1, M1E2, M1E3 (1st year medical student, episode 1,2,3 etc); and as you go on to second year:
M2E1, M2E2, M2E3
Just my 2 cents.
That's awesome I will definitely have to check it out! Thank you so much for the recommendation 🙌
Perfect reward after studyingggg!! Thank youuu for thissss
Ahhh thank you so much for watching!! :)
Love the videos Shaun! I know it’s early, but do you know what speciality you want to go into?
Thanks so much! :D & I am leaning towards Peds, Surgery, Oncology, or Emergency Med!
i love your videos🥺 they give me motivation of the stuff i’ve been procrastinating
Thanks so much!! :) & it's okay, we ALL procrastinate!
LOVE these comments like this. So cool
Can you do a video on how you manage cables and cords at your gaming station?
I absolutely can! :D
C’mon Shaun we need daily videos, tell the gf she better up her editing skills 😜 Jk jk
But best of luck on the interview CaveMan (love the name hahaha)
The idea is definitely a work in progress though😅
And yes she gets very excited when people mention her in the comments haha I am very lucky to have her! Thank you so much for your kind words and your support, it truly means a lot :,)
@@ShaunAndersen Ha I'd love to see it! You're welcome😊
I think if you are going to vlog in Medical School you can make your titles like: A Week in Medical School (2), etc so the videos are in order otherwise it becomes confusing. BTW love your content, keep it up!
I actually just had this conversation with my girlfriend last night! I am thinking of how I want to name/organize the videos!
@@ShaunAndersen Oh ok, great
Omg so much in 1 week!
You are always so sweet! 💓
Love your videos!! Very very inspiring and organized👏🏻❤️ also you got thissss!!!!
Thank you so much!! 🙌
Keep it up Shaun!!! Love the videos :D
Thank you so much! :D
Nice Shaun. Nice to see ur progress shaun
Thank you so much! :D
Maybe put the extra bit of lights under the window? Like, let the string go down that wall, turn the corner, and go underneath the windowsill? Idk if it’s long enough, but it might work! (Hope it makes sense lol)
I think that is essentially the only thing I can do! xD Probably will just hammer some nails in and do just that!
lovely to hear from you :3
Thank you so much! :D
YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Do you watch medical series and what is the main difference between real life doctors and the doctors in the series?
THANK YOU !!! I am actually a huge fan of the Good Doctor! :p I think medical shows are just a lot more dramatic! xD
Shaun Andersen oh haha I meant in general do you watch medical series like the resident or greys anatomy:)
I love your videos ,always wait for you to upload ,keep growing and good luck with the exam :)
Thank you so much 🙌 that means a lot to me!
hey! second year med student here, metabolism can be super overwhelming I totally agree with you. Something I found helpful last year was Ninja Nerd youtube videos, he goes pretty in depth into the videos and I felt that it helped me to understand and connect the pathways better than boards did as that's just a review source! He has so many great videos you should definitely check them out!
Becareful always bro!! Always give your best!
Will do!! 🙌
Doctor Mike 2.0??😂 For real though, I love your channel!! I’m doing pre-med and it’s so cool and inspiring to watch your videos!
Hahaha nooo I'm not on his level quite yet😅😂 Thank you so much and good luck!!
Shaun Andersen Ahaha thanks, good luck to you too!
Med school is basically a full time job and then some lol
i loveeee your desk setup!
Just keep doing these weeks every week
I definitely will! :D
Agreed!
I’m studying too😢😢 Anesthesiology is tough🤦🏼♀️
You got this!! :D
Did you see the Boards and Beyond update? It looks so much better now, plus it has some cool tools to use in the video quizzes!
I’m new here. I just wanted to find out what you are studying. Love your videos!
Thank you so much!! :) I really appreciate that!
Can I ask how u make your iced coffee I been trying to make them but no success so far they look so nice in the videos I watch
I personally buy the Torani syrup flavors so I can switch it up! Hazelnut will always be a favorite. Been really looking coconut flavored coffees lately, inspired by Dutch Bro’s of course
Shaun Andersen I’m surprised it’s new for you! I usually buy mine, so you’re helping me save money in the long run. 😁 I’m using the Silk Almond one
Kirsty Bines He shows it at the beginning of last week’s vlog! I definitely recommend you check it out
11:55 Dude...You are doing *Super* Good...Just Dont worry So much !
Thank you! :) I know I will feel much better after this exam haha!
Congrats on another week b🥳❤️
😘❤😱
What are you thinking of specializing in? Great vids you make my Sunday
Thank you so much!! :) I am leaning towards Peds, Emergency, Surgery, or Oncology!
ANKI hack - press command + J to unsuspend (after pressing command + A to select all). Also, download the review heat map ANKI add on! It’s like a reward system that motivates you to do your cards daily, keep your streak going and make your ANKI home screen look more bad@$&!
yoo that's awesome thank you so much!
Hazelnut creamer is my fave!!
Yooo it is the BEST! :)
Thank you so much! Malaysia!? :o That's awesome! Good luck on your exams🙌😄
Keep it up! - 29/nontrad PS. What apps do you use to organize your task lists? I have a Mac and iPad.
