Few simple revision tips for new medical students: Break up study schedules into 20 to 30 minute segments. Create a study timetable. Keep hardest topics for the morning. Create colorful notes and mind maps. Practice old exams and papers. Start assignments sooner rather than later. Get plenty of sleep.
Listening to the stuff you're studying makes me realise how much I've forgotten since Med School!! I think about it like this - you're learning the sand and grains that gets mixed in to make the cement -- once it sets, you don't see/remember the sand granules anymore but you're left with the concrete knowledge.... I'm sure there's a better analogy but yeah! Great vlog!
Haha I definitely understand what you mean :p I feel like it’s so stressful learning all this right now but once day it really will be just a distant memory!
I was so surprised to see Abby, I actually forgot that she was going to be in a part of this week's vlog lol. It was nice to see her once more. Also, I really love seeing people cook in their vlogs so that brief cooking segment made me really happy. You're doing great, Shaun!
The long distance relationship to being together, back to long distance isn’t easy but it can totally be done. Even if it’s just 5 minutes a day on FaceTime makes a world of difference. It’s the little things 😊. My wife and I did that and in January I will be moving 2 hours away for chiropractic school and she’s staying in our home. You guys are awesome together and so supportive! You got this. I love seeing your med school journey!
You are so right! :) That is so inspiring to hear you and your wife did it. It is so nice to see how you guys support each other! & good luck in Pharmacy school! You are going to do absolutely AMAZING! :)
The emphasis on nutrition in your program is awesome! Hopefully you get more throughout the years. I’ve always thought we needed to learn more nutrition!! Good thing we have dietitians! But having better educated physicians will be great
I'm not a medical student, but find it fascinating to watch how other people work whilst being in med school. Keep up the awesome work, and making great videos Shaun. Thanks for sharing!
Hey there!! :) I appreciate you supporting the channel and watching my vlogs even though you aren’t planning to go into the medical field! 🙏🏻 thanks so much!
Dude, having a medical school class on cooking is such a move! You'd be surprised how many med students (and maybe even doctors) aren't able to cook nutritious and delicious meals. I just finished part of my nutrition unit - I wish they had a cooking zoom class for us too haha
Yeah, same here brother same here... I took quarantine as an opportunity to start learning cooking and to be honest I can make good and nutritious dishes for my self now! Lost weight in the process as well!
9:01 - I really like your passtracker tool. What I'm seeing is that you're approaching the same material from multiple perspectives and sources, including from your peers. This is a great example of a measurable and external trusted system for keeping track of progress/material. 10:10 - That's really awesome to hear that your classes are integrating topics on Mental Health. Last year I completed a Master in Social Work, so will soon be a Social Worker... when someone hires me. LOL! 11:58 - That's great -- you have created an @Errands list. If there were already some items on that for personal stuff, you could knock out both at same time, and not forget anything. And then.... you can copy that school shopping list to another category -- LOL! 13:19 - LOL. I'm INTP. Definitely do the "second" psychiatry specialty!!! You'll probably get *really* interested in something and specialize in something you would never imagine. You'll figure it out. 15:14 - Pretty soon, you'll have all your systems on full-go. You already have an excellent passtracker tool (I think that's what you called it. You'll just sit down with that stack of work you mentioned and "process" it all into your external trusted systems and then just chug from there.
Hey there! :) Definitely sad but you are right! 3-6 weeks is nothing really, plus we have done it before! Thank you so much for the kind words. It really means a lot to me! 🙌
I'm going to miss seeing Abs finished cooking and seeing her on the stream and the vids. Also I don't even know how you have the energy to do those study sessions each day. I'd be dead after the first day!
Really intrigued by the study regime, keep up the good work and thank you again for the quality content week in and week out, really look forward every Sunday for the video. Keep Hustling.

You are exciting me to go to medical school more than ever. I've always wanted to become a doctor and I can't wait to go to med school. 😍😍😍👍👍👍love you videos.
Hey Shaun! Thank you so much for your videos. I thought medical students didn’t have much time to spend with family and do personal things. How you spend your day really cleared up a lot of questions i had. Good luck with school, hopefully i get accepted this cycle and become a medical student as well 😊
Great vid. Would you say this information from lectures and your test is the same difficulty as college? Or is it mainly just the amount of content coming in requiring time management to get through all the material.
Honestly the hardest part is the cheer material! There is so much of it and it is very hard to keep up. Nothing is individually hard- but there is just so much to cover!
The king is back once again! I start my senior year tomorrow and am getting closer to my journey to premed. Your videos are awesome man and I am always happy to see them Sunday morning. Wishing you luck for your next week!

I appreciate that so much!! :) You are going to do amazing! Here is the deck I use: www.reddit.com/r/medicalschoolanki/comments/fqlqz1/anking_v6_release/

Hey Shaun! I'm also in my first year of medical school and I absolutely love your channel! I resonate to a lot of your experiences. Also at 13:09 I literally almost fell off my chair because I play overwatch on my downtime as well LOL! Great video as always!
Sean be careful using a master deck. I did this myself when I was in the beginning of M1 and it was a huge mistake I had to go back and spend hours moving them back in. Instead if you want to prioritize your reviews, use the categories that Anking already has broken down for you. For example, looks like you guys are doing errors in inborn metabolism and genetics so that stuff would all be in the biochem subsection. No need to separate :)
After reading your comment, you’re totally right. I felt that exact same way. Today I transferred the cards back! Unfortunately they lost their tags which suck :( but I’m glad they are combined now
Stacie Ndabeni haha hey Stacie! Glad you love it and aren’t annoyed like “ugh this guy again!” 😋 Shaun is a friend and I always try to get active in his comments to boost the engagement since it helps the algorithm a lot. I don’t know Rachel but her channel is great so I try to do the same 😊. Also I started a channel recently so I figure I should be active in the community and help us all grow. It’s such a cool platform and I love seeing all the different people from all walks of life from all over the world. It’s so cool all being able to build each other up and support each other etc
Honestly I don’t know the different 😅 I’ve heard the white and blue masks are better than the cloth but I don’t actually know this as a fact 😅 I probably should though...
What an incredible vlog bro, these are so addictive!!! Never give up bro you are doing very very well. You are going to be an incredible physician! Also, your flips are awesome, you have to teach me some of them because I can barely do a front flip in a trampoline 😂
Same! So jealous I wouldn’t even know where to start. Recently saw a video of a dad who does a cartwheel and then his baby tries to copy him and just bellyflops on the ground 😂 I feel like that will be what goes down if he ever tries teaching me hahaha
Great!, 3rd med student here so love seeing if I can answer those biochem step questions, haha. What are your thoughts on following a plant based diet without dairy?
Aye congrats on being in your third year! :) I cannot wait to be in your position! & I would definitely consider following a plant based diet. I do think, however, it is very important to maintain adequate nutritional supplementation with protein and multivitamin intake!
Damn those tricks are sick !! But look dangerous too. How many times you got your ankle sprained 😅? And doesn't these moves have a negative impact on your knees? Loved the vid Shaun !!! ❤️
Nice Keep up the good work Shaun. Also I have a few questions. First one is there any way to get into undergrad school and med school for free? Second question is how do you have money to buy food, clothes, etc and live in such a comfortable home?
You can get scholarships, grants, HPSP (military, army, navy, etc) or loans! Personally, I get support from my parents, had a scholarship to my medical school, and also use my money which I have been saving for about 6 years now!
Did you make those Anki flashcards on your own or did you find it via another source from a previous med student? Also, what I do is set my alarm for specific times on specific days to avoid complications. I suggest you do the same so you don't oversleep again lol
What is that app called at 1:40 ? I really like the layout of whichever app you’re using and want to get the same one. It looks extremely useful for studying. P.s. keep up the videos man. These are awesome!
love your vids... I will be starting med school soon and the app you used for anatomy at 1:35 seemed helpful. Could you please tell me the name of that app?
Just out of curiosity how much time do you spend a day doing ANKI cards? Nice tricks, by the way, I guess it's true what they said about med students having hidden talents.

Shaun Andersen can’t wait! I struggle with the basics of anki and would love to see your strategies. Good luck!!
Glad you are doing Anki first year. We didn't start until midway through second year and definitely missed out on the benefits
It is definitely a great resource for rote memorization and repeated exposure but also overwhelming with the amount of cards sometimes :p

13:07 literally me after i get done with my studying and other work
Yesssss Overwatch!! :)
Love your videos sooooooo much can u make a video in the future about study tips and how you study
Thanks! Yeah i will definitely get around to making one!
Yikes, you’re way more organized than me. Guess I gotta create an objective-based study system 😅😂 also getting B&B next unit for sure
Being organised is definitely key to doing well! You got this!
Great video as always dude!
Thank you so much!! :)
Ive been waiting for this vlog to come up.
Hope you enjoyed it!❤
I diiiiid. Juggling youtube and medschool?? Much respect for you, broo.
Hey Shaun!
Which mask do you think is better? The medical mask (white/blue) or the cloth mask?
Stay safe and good luck🙏🏻❤
Honestly I don’t know the different 😅 I’ve heard the white and blue masks are better than the cloth but I don’t actually know this as a fact 😅 I probably should though...
I'm really enjoying your content! I want to become a doctor too! Good vibes from 🇲🇽🙌🏼
Awesome! Thank you! You should definitely go for it!
Tumbling has never been so satisfying 😭😭
Thanks! It was a much needed break. 😅
Definitely finished your video and dang my own head is spinning 😂😂
What an incredible vlog bro, these are so addictive!!! Never give up bro you are doing very very well. You are going to be an incredible physician! Also, your flips are awesome, you have to teach me some of them because I can barely do a front flip in a trampoline 😂
Thanks a ton! I'm so happy you enjoyed the video!
Same! So jealous I wouldn’t even know where to start. Recently saw a video of a dad who does a cartwheel and then his baby tries to copy him and just bellyflops on the ground 😂 I feel like that will be what goes down if he ever tries teaching me hahaha
I’m glad u found a study plan! Hopefully it helps ☺️. Also, r gonna be MD or DO
Thank you so much!! :) & I am in an MD program!
Shaun Andersen 🤠🤠
I will miss abby i hope she do well in her school
She is going to do amazing! :)
Do you create your own anki cards or get pre made decks? Can you go through what your settings are on anki? thanks Shaun!
I use a pre-made deck called ANKING from Reddit! :) I’ll make a video on it in a couple weeks!
Shaun Andersen ninja and doctor. Your sooo cool
Thanks!❤
- 10:22 My GF likes your T-shirt!
Also, great vid Shaun! Love from Canada
Is she from New Jersey?! :p
Love these videos 🙌🏻
Thank you so much!! :) 🙌🏻
Hey Shaun ... could you please do a video on how to use Anki. ?
Yes! I will do it after my next exam in 2 weeks!
Shaun Andersen thank you soo much Shaun .
I don’t understand how you use anki or how use it? Can you do a video explain it?
Yes! I am still working on making it more efficient and getting some add-ons for ANKI, but, as soon as I do, I will make a video!
Shaun Andersen ok
Can you make a video for how to study. Before the day of final exam because in med school we have a lot materials to revise
I definitely can try! I haven’t had many exams yet so I will try to as soon as I have more experience! :)
Brachial plexus is my favourite topic in Anatomy, Shaun.
I'm a 2nd year Radiography and Radiological Sciences student in Nigeria
It’s a very cool part of the Anatomy! :D good luck with your schooling!
@@ShaunAndersen Thank you, Shaun🙌
Damn those tricks are sick !! But look dangerous too. How many times you got your ankle sprained 😅? And doesn't these moves have a negative impact on your knees? Loved the vid Shaun !!! ❤️
Thank you so much :p I have had 1 ankle fracture and definitely a few sprains!
Thank you so much for the information and have a great rest of your day.
Did you make those Anki flashcards on your own or did you find it via another source from a previous med student? Also, what I do is set my alarm for specific times on specific days to avoid complications. I suggest you do the same so you don't oversleep again lol
I downloaded the ANKING deck from Reddit! Also, you're totally right haha I should set pre-set alarms! :p
What program was the anatomy on when you were talking about the brachial plexus? Looks useful!
Complete Anatomy! :)
What is that app called at 1:40 ? I really like the layout of whichever app you’re using and want to get the same one. It looks extremely useful for studying. P.s. keep up the videos man. These are awesome!
It is called Complete Anatomy! :) & Thank you so much!! I really appreciate the kind words!
My knees and shins hurt just watching! 😂 so cool tho. Great video yet again... 👍🏻
Haha trust me mine hurt too :p
love your vids... I will be starting med school soon and the app you used for anatomy at 1:35 seemed helpful. Could you please tell me the name of that app?
It is called Complete Anatomy!! :)
Just out of curiosity how much time do you spend a day doing ANKI cards? Nice tricks, by the way, I guess it's true what they said about med students having hidden talents.
Honestly a lot :( Probably anywhere from 2-3 hours. It takes a long time but is very useful for getting things into your head and memorization!
I’m a first year DO student and I was wondering if you only do the Anking Anki cards or do you also make your own anki cards??
I only use ANKING! :)
You should try out notion!
After so many comments about it on the vlog, I started using it this week!! It has become my life!!😍😍
Shaun Andersen woooo! New video on that;)
