@@keng4066 From my understanding, axle tramp isn't too terrible every time, as in it doesn't cause too much wear (compared to other wear caused by launching a car), but it has a constant risk to suddenly cause a few issues, namely (assuming FWD) breaking the engine mounts, and having the engine come free in the engine bay, but also increased differential wear, increased wear to CV joints, and a few others like suspension bushes will wear quicker, dampers trying to control the vibration style movement in the suspension will wear quicker. I agree it's not great to do, but just choosing to not launch a car is only one solution, and that may work fine for you, but for others: You could get stronger engine mounts (on FWD) to minimise this, I've even heard a stronger ARB will help, or, when it happens, give it more throttle, so the tyres stop hooking up, but you don't bog down like you would if you let off, then ease back off the throttle, to attempt to stop the wheelspin you've just created. I personally agree with you that launch control is a bit stupid, it increases wear for only a marginally better launch. If I'm trying to get away quick at the lights, I'd probably just pull away normally (slipping the clutch below 2k rpm), then once the car's moving, give it a proper bootfull. If I'm showing off/doing it for fun, then I'd rather light up the front wheels, which would minimise wear (ask anyone who drag races, the worst thing that can happen is the tyres hooking up on a launch), and it'd be a spectacle for anyone watching, and assuming no one-tyre fire, the diff, gearbox, engine and suspension would receive less wear, with only the tyres getting more wear. You've got to keep in mind, if you're getting a hot hatch, you're probably getting it to drive hard.

These things are QUICK, they sound fantastic and they're just little tiny M cars.
They are fun to drive, but Hyundai Kia are having huge problems with engine failures in the US, and that doesn't inspire much confidence even in the Czech built N cars

The fact that the hyundai and the fiesta sound better than some cars which are much faster with a bigger engine and 4 or 5 times the cost which is just crazy.
Small? The Hyundai only has 0,1 more. lol And even with a bigger engine, less torque. It has the best and probably most reliable engine of the 3. At least more reliable than the Polo engine which is 2L. On Hyundai, time will tell. The Fiesta 1.5L Engine has been tested to be good for 300HP tuning with stock hardware inside. So there is not any problem. Also 3 cylinder have more torque by nature.
@@dom3827 i20n over boost torque is never quoted in these tests like the fiestas it has a higher ovr boost torque also its weight ratio to torque is better
It’s easy to guess which car will win, Mat always takes the fastest one, and starts on the left, so you can see him overtake both cars in the same shot.
The i20N is so impressive, should be in the running for car of the year tbh. This test doesn't really matter, but still good to see it do so well. It comes on Pirellis as standard as well which are typically not great in the wet, whereas the Fiesta is already on Michelin PS4s. The brand snobs need to get with the times. I30Ns are amazing, depends if you care about passenger comfort. I still think a i30N is too small but I cram 4 passengers in there a lot. If you don’t have passengers often get the i20N.

I own a Polo and I am sure other owners would agree when you drive it feels like it has more to give but is being held back. Mine is going in for Stage 1 at some point.
That is because the engine has its max power at around 5k rpm and than loses quickly. This is because the engine is build with economy in mind, not performance. Many people confuse this engine with the Polo GTI engine, which it is not. It has completely different internals, different cylinder head, runs in budack cycle. You probably get 20 - 30 more hp out of it. After that you would need hardware upgrades. Intercooler, cylinder head, new turbo.
Most important reason is the smaller turbo, the IS20 is not suitable for much higher horsepower, but I got a software tune done, now it makes around 270hp and 420Nm, open intake sound is incredible aggressive, really nice, OPF delete, DSG optimization and crackle map was also done, now that car is a lot more fun to drive, doesnt feel so hardly limited as it does with standard software. If u want more hp u would defenetely need a bigger turbo, even with miller cycle, 350+ hp should be possible with stock internals
Doesn't matter when you do a full emergency braking ... the brakes should be more than powerful enough to fully lock the wheels, more so on that wet surface. Probably the tires made a huge difference here.
The best brake is that when you don t lock weels. So engine brake takes away energy and abs is not used as hard. So that makes a shorter brake distance. Just try it and you will see, even in manual if you do it.
@@mgn1985 When you press hard the brake pedal as they do here, the ABS is the only thing that prevents the wheels from locking up. The combination of the tires + the ABS controller is the reason that Polo stoped so fast, this has nothing to do with the DSG or engine braking.
@@mgn1985 There is a lot of physics in which the DSG is not involved ... I have both a DSG and a manual car and I know perfectly what are you referring to when DSG assists you during light braking, for example when you stop at a traffic light. @@xIcarus227 You do get more vibrations inside (depending on the hardness of the bushings), especially when the AC is on, but it's definitely worth it. Wheel hop is reduced to a minimum, more grip when accelerating from stationary and the gear changes are also more crisp.

Albert Biermann the former head of research for BMW's M division went over to Hyundai for a while, literally founded their N division and then after making a couple of Hyundai's cars sporty and fun retired as head of R&D and now continues as a consultant for Hyundai and their N line. These things are QUICK, they sound fantastic and they're just little tiny M cars.
They are fun to drive, but Hyundai Kia are having huge problems with engine failures in the US, and that doesn't inspire much confidence even in the Czech built N cars

For a small engine the Fiesta keeps up quite well with the others its very impressive 👍🏻
Small?
The Hyundai only has 0,1 more. lol
And even with a bigger engine, less torque.
It has the best and probably most reliable engine of the 3. At least more reliable than the Polo engine which is 2L. On Hyundai, time will tell.
The Fiesta 1.5L Engine has been tested to be good for 300HP tuning with stock hardware inside. So there is not any problem.

It comes on Pirellis as standard as well which are typically not great in the wet, whereas the Fiesta is already on Michelin PS4s. The brand snobs need to get with the times.

@@swabilius yeah I’d be looking at a i30N that’s a few years old so around the same price of the i20N. I’d prefer the more space, the looks and sound, the adaptive suspension. I30Ns are amazing, depends if you care about passenger comfort. I still think a i30N is too small but I cram 4 passengers in there a lot. If you don’t have passengers often get the i20N.

@@sihlezenani9994 Agree, the Polo looked as if it was moving in slo mo.
@@georgeewart52 I think it would be nice if these guys could exchange cars in a race just to eliminate the driver theory.
If u want more hp u would defenetely need a bigger turbo, even with miller cycle, 350+ hp should be possible with stock internals
the polo's dsg helps when it brakes, putting engine brake on. automatic gear boxes do that :D
@@vladulescuadrian6080 you are right man, there is no Physics in braking, just abs.
@@mgn1985 There is a lot of physics in which the DSG is not involved ... I have both a DSG and a manual car and I know perfectly what are you referring to when DSG assists you during light braking, for example when you stop at a traffic light. But you do not seem to grasp is that at max braking the tires are the limitation, not the brakes.

@@xIcarus227 Tightens everything up, less momentum in the engine bay throwing it around. Braking better, handling better etc. Just feels more focused.
