Four of the hottest crossover SUVs you can buy are about to go head-to-head over the quarter-mile!
We’ve got Mat in the new MINI Countryman JCW, and he’s lining up against a BMW iX2, a VW T-Roc R, and an Audi SQ2!
So let’s see how these pocket rockets compare. Starting with the MINI, it’s powered by a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine that can put down 300hp and 400Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and it weighs in at 1,735kg. If you’re looking to pick one up it’ll set you back just under £40,000.
Alongside it we have the all-electric iX2. It comes with dual motors that combine to produce 313hp and 494Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels, and it tips the scales at 2,020kg. Not only is it the heaviest car here, it’s also the most expensive, costing around £51,600.
The T-Roc R & SQ2 are built on the same platform, so as a result, their performance stats are pretty much identical. Both are powered by a 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo, and both produce 300hp and 400Nm. Both are equipped with a 7-speed gearbox and four-wheel drive, although while the T-Roc weighs 1,575kg, the Audi is slightly lighter at 1,535kg. The Audi is also just over £1,000 cheaper than the VW, costing around £44,100.

@@larryjohns8823 BMW launch control is super easy, idk why they always say it's temperamental. Everything in sport+ (traction control in dynamic), push the gear shifter to the left for sport auto or manual, floor the brake, floor the accelerator, lift off the brake. Mine launches every time. The mini was a bit of a pain for sure.
And yet they are still faster than the majority of 400 plus HP muscle cars of the past.
They should troll Yianni and do some BMW commands trough walkie-talkie next time while racing 😅 hey BMW set temperature to hot or change driving mode to eco 😅

Conclusion: don't buy a ""Sporty"" SUV and just buy a hot hatch.
They're pretty much the same but offer a lot more headroom. And it's not like you'll notice the performance difference in every day use

@@Oozaru997 In every day use you won't notice the performance difference between a T-Roc R and Golf R, but you mostly won't notice the headroom either. You will notice the worse handling, worse fuel economy, etc.
These cars scream "can't drive" - anyone with £50k who wants more practicality than a Golf R (which is very marginal anyway), who can drive well enough to make use of the performance, would just buy a 330e Touring or something like that. Are these cars necessarily bad? No, I'm not really saying that, but they are absolutely worse, especially given the price premiums they come with.

I had the T-Roc thing as a hire car for the N24 a couple years ago, it was an R-Line model and was fucking brilliant. Very quick, handled great for such a weird shaped car, lovely interior with loads of useful tech, great sound system and honestly despite it's weird crossover style, it looks great. Handled German back roads back and forth from the track with ease as well.....it's also the first car I ever got a speeding ticket in though.

The other 3 cost between $60,000-80,000 depending on the model range.
It’s crazy how ridiculous new car prices have gotten, are 2.0L turbocharged vehicles really worth that much nowadays, you’d think you have a large 500hp V8 under the bonnet.
It cost about $94 000 drive away actually..... if you don't tick any extras boxes.

300hp? They look like just normal cars going along. Nothing particularly fast about any of them.
Then they do weigh in pretty close to an M5 with less than half the power so I suppose thats to be expected.
A 13 second quarter mile is respectable any day.
t-roc R does 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds. Also these engines are easy to tune. A chip alone will give this car another 60hp and they are dangerously fun to drive in the city.

When you think 300hp small car it used to mean a roaring, tyre ripping hooligan car.
These things are just boring ways to make good numbers.
Infact the time vs their power/weight kind of tells the story. What times would they do with manual gearboxes and less than ideal traction/gearing?
These are efficient but thats not really the point of a hot hatch. The point is to have something thats fun while being practical.
These could be diesels or electrics and lose pretty much nothing for it.

Meh, they're crossovers, when is launch control of any use whatsoever at any point outside of a Carwow video anyway?
Edit: That basically applies to launch control on most things, since it's useful on drag strips. That's a predominantly US thing anyway, but I doubt many people are taking a huge Mini to a drag strip for serious results anywhere!
