3rd gear at 50mph on the Porsche was setting it up for failure, you expect it to rev from 3k RPM all the way to 8k RPM in the same gear? I think the “Sport Mode” roll race should have each car in their “ideal” gear for 50mph. you shouldn’t have every car in the same gear since not every car shares the same transmission and gear tuning.
Can we just appreciate this race? In a few years time, we will have all electric/hydrogen races... P.S. That TT-RS still looks so good after all these years.

I would still give him credit tho as long as the jump isn’t too bad that it significantly affected the results. Because most of his jumps are mere hundredths of a second off. I’d still give him credit for that.

I have to disagree with the sound checks to some degree. The 5cyl still has it's characteristics whether it's limited or not. Just because you can't rev it all the way doesn't mean it sounds bad all of a sudden.

For the price of the Golf R it performed well. It held its own up to 100mph in those rolls. And, although it was nearly a full second behind all the others in the quarter, it's also thousands and thousands of dollars cheaper than the others! I still do wonder why they can only get a 12.7 out of it now, in a previous video I recall a 12.3!
12.3 seems like a golf that might have been tuned or a factory freak. It's too fast of a time for 320hp. 12.7 is about right. Think about a BMW m340i, it has about 400hp and runs a 12.3 and that's a car known for being very quick for its power..

Ok hear me out: Mat vs Yianni in a drag race using manual cars! No launch control, no automatic gear box, just the 2 of them head to head! Would be soooo much fun to watch!
GT4 killed it when the pdk was able to downshift to 7K RPM and remained in that sweet spot way up high. The next race, at 50 mph in 3rd had the GT4 at 3K RPM. Of course it got left.
10:20 as engineering student (close enough), can confirm that the stiffness would've made it stop slower. However, I think a much bigger factor is the porsche's track-oriented pads weren't up to temperature
Wouldn't the increased negative camber also reduce the size of the rubber patch on the ground that provides grip for braking? (I would blame that 😁) As for the weaker braking due to stiffnes: Isn't that called dynamic weight transfer or something like that in english?. Anyway, due to the weight distribution of the Cayman i would think that it can utilize the rear brakes more than the others in this race. (not as much as Porsche does with a 911, but still... when the weight doesn't get transferred to the front wheels increasing their pressure that much, this should mean the rear ones can transfer more braking force)
@@nirfz yeah the cayman is mid engined so there is more weight on the back but the weight transfer would increase the front brakes affect. And yes, if the suspension is macpherson struts you'd lose a little bit of contact patch but the extra pressure and flex in the sidewall would offset that. But it's probably not the biggest contributor to the cayman losing since all the other cars are affected by weight transfer as well
That Golf wasn't too far behind. Quite surprising a little bit Edit: Yup, that Golf is actually competing in all events. Losing, but still giving good performance against the Porsche and Audi
To be fair, the Golf is basically designed purely for this purpose whereas the GT4 wasn't designed with drag racing in mind at all. Still, for almost exactly half the price of the GT4 it's not bad. With the ruined sound of the TT I'd pick the Golf over that honestly (but it's the Cayman all day every day really ☺). The Urus is just a Golf R but scaled up in every way.
Awesome vid as usual guys. Instead of the rolling 3rd gear race, you should do the rolling preferred gear race from 50. The porsches naturally aspirated unit doesn't stand a chance below 6k rpm whilst the turbos can just ride the boost wave.
Naturally aspirated, RWD, designed for race tracks, and big ass wing and Porsche still impressively performed in the drag race... And that Urus is unbelievably quick for a SUV... We should thank VW group for those outstanding cars...

When one tres equate the cubic capacities of a turbo charged engine , you have to take the CC’s and times it by 1.6, barring it has the smallest size turbo efficient for the specific engine size with mild boost, so a 2.5 Turbo is actually equivalent to a 4.0 L I n/a form. With plenty of boost and a oversized bigger turbo, it can be multiplied up to 2.2 factor .

Ceramic brakes don’t actually stop the car in a shorter distance than steel, if they’re the same size. The advantage of carbon ceramics is that they are much more fade resistant and thus are well-suited for track use.

Why not try something new: team drag race, pick a partner and if any of your vehicles between the one you pick or your team mate picks gets to the line before the other team vehicles than you win
Agreed. But the soft limiter and environmental stuff kept it on the quiet end. Put Mat in a Porsche, which I would expect to have solid sound isolation, and I'm not surprised he didn't hear it so well.

I still love the Cayman, I raced a 981 Cayman GTS around the Speed Vegas test track and I loved it. Still the best car I've driven on track.

To be fair, the Golf is basically designed purely for this purpose whereas the GT4 wasn't designed with drag racing in mind at all. Still, for almost exactly half the price of the GT4 it's not bad. With the ruined sound of the TT I'd pick the Golf over that honestly (but it's the Cayman all day every day really ☺). The Urus is just a Golf R but scaled up in every way.
I agree. I'm not a fan of the Golf at all, but considering the power difference, it did very well. For a stock 2.0 4 banger, it's a very quick car.

Awesome vid as usual guys. Instead of the rolling 3rd gear race, you should do the rolling preferred gear race from 50. The porsches naturally aspirated unit doesn't stand a chance below 6k rpm whilst the turbos can just ride the boost wave.
Naturally aspirated, RWD, designed for race tracks, and big ass wing and Porsche still impressively performed in the drag race...
And that Urus is unbelievably quick for a SUV...

Engineering fact. When one tres equate the cubic capacities of a turbo charged engine , you have to take the CC’s and times it by 1.6, barring it has the smallest size turbo efficient for the specific engine size with mild boost, so a 2.5 Turbo is actually equivalent to a 4.0 L I n/a form. With plenty of boost and a oversized bigger turbo, it can be multiplied up to 2.2 factor .

Hi Mat, it seems that the Audi TT RS was revving the engine instead of building boost on the start line. Based on our video test, we confirmed that for best LC results, turbo boost should be build in particular for opf models. Thank you for these great videos 💪🏻

Imagine having ceramic brakes, and also the worlds biggest brakes and loose a brake test to steel brakes? This is nuts.
Ceramic brakes don’t actually stop the car in a shorter distance than steel, if they’re the same size. The advantage of carbon ceramics is that they are much more fade resistant and thus are well-suited for track use.
Braking distance is limited by tyres and ABS software, not the phsycial brakes
