  • Nikon Z9 has been a beacon of technology with its electronic shutter and high end video features. As technology evolved in the past few years, new advancements such as a global shutter have been made and will likely find its place in the next Nikon flagship mirrorless camera - Nikon Z9II.
This video provides an overview, based on new technologies in mirrorless cameras, what to expect from the successor Nikon Z9 and its price point.
Please note this video is not based on camera rumors, nor this video is intended to spread camera rumors about Nikon Z9II. Rather this video is an honest assessment of camera market and what we should expect from Nikon Z9II.
Small typo in the video. Nikon D5 has a 20.8 MP sensor and Z9 has EN-EL18d battery.

All I need from the Z9 is:
    Higher FPS (30?)

    Better Viewfinder.
The rest of those specs that you suggested are dreamy and would be an intant buy from me :)

Questions ; This is important to me. I'll be shooting many 2 hour videos. I'm not of the time frame of cards capacity at 4k. Is there an option for a plug in to the camera, 1 terabyte external storage? That way I can edit from that and then transfer it to a NAS storage.
Question. Black magic has a ATEM . Using Davinci resolve and the atem is that compatible with the Z9 ?

I've been a social and event photographer since 2011, unfortunately living in Brazil makes investing in a camera like the Z9 practically impossible, even investing in a Zf, Z6III doesn't make sense.
It's sad, but our reality, maybe one day I'll only be able to get my hands on a Z9 when it has 4 or 5 successors, as happened with the Nikon D3s that I only owned a decade later, today it doubles as a Nikon Z5 which I was only able to have in my setup thanks to a couple of friends who were traveling in the USA and bought it for me.

I think it will be a new 45.7 mega pixel global shutter . There was some new design patents released by Nikon for new tech that would allow a sensor to process the fast movements in a scene but still retaining high dynamic range of the static parts of the scene . So it might not just be slapping the sensor from the v raptor into a new Nikon body . Don’t forget also the Red 3D raw technology will most definitely play a huge role in the new look of the raw video . Not sure if they will still offer Nikon Raw or give the option of both but it’s definitely exciting to see what they will do as the first Nikon post Red acquisition . Would love to also see a revamped video software section more intuitive version .

The D6 is a low light camera, same for the D5. The Z9 with the 45 megapixel sensor can not compete with the D5/D6 when it comes to handling high ISO situations. It's called physics, same size sensor D5/D6/D850/Z9, the difference between these cameras is the amount of pixels crammed into the same size sensor, the larger the pixels D5/D6 the more light gathering capabilities which equates to better handling of high ISO captures.
This is the same reason the Canon R1 25 megapixel sensor is better at handling low light conditions than the R5.'s 45 megapixel sensor.
The Z9 is the predecessor of the D850 not the D5/D6.
The Z9 is pretty much a D850 on steroids with video capabilities the D850 could only dream of. And I own both the D850 with the battery grip, and the Z9.

R1 doesn't have a global shutter, A1II doesn't have a global shutter. I'd rather like to see a Z 9II and maybe Z 8II that focus on improving on NIkons weaknesses instead of wasting money on features that don't have a real-world benefit and which likely will only impact the price in a negative way - apart from the image quality, as we're talking less dynamic range and such. Like, Sonys A9III to me is like a concept car. Looks nice, but what the heck am I going to do with 120 fps in photography (Even birders are like "Oh, I'm almost never utilizing 30 or 40 fps as 20 is plenty enough") that can't really catch up to what I'm currently getting out of a Z 9 at 20 fps?
    Makes no sense at all.

Canon is taking their time with a global shutter. But they will have it as some point. I hear your point, but from we can tell global shutter tech is not a concept and is being included with cameras now. Now it’s just time of refinement. Some cameras companies are faster others are slower but eventually all will adopt its tech.

I am hoping Nikon will make two new Z9's, a global shutter version ($$$ and high base ISO of 250) and a non global shutter version for the rest of us ($5500 again). All I really want is pre-capture in RAW. Longer battery life, the Sony vari-angle screen, and better low light capability would be nice. Wedding photographers would like it to write video to both cards simultaneously like every other camera does. If it has a flippy screen like the Z6iii and Zf it would be ruined.

The Nikon Z9II needs to reduce its weight to 1049 grams or 1149 grams.
People are amazed by the Z9's heat dissipation performance, mainly because its circuitry is less integrated. A larger body can be used to house different functional modules, while the battery and memory card can be placed separately.
So Nikon needs to consider how to optimize the internal space of its flagship camera in order to control the size and weight accordingly. In the world, often making balanced trade-offs is a wise choice.

I understand your point about weight but it could likely reduce the overall functionality of the camera. Sometime by solving one problem we end up creating another. Just a thought, but thanks for sharing your view point.

I think as a flagship it's gonna path the way with new Expeed 8 processor. Also Nikon needs to make higher resolution displays

The Z9ii :WILL NOT: have a global shutter. It will have better AI AF for wildlife and sports. There will be another Nikon down the road that will have a global shutter much the Sony A9iii has and flagship A1 DOESNOT. It will also have up to 1 second per-capture RAW

    - Same sensor, new processor, faster CFex standard, better AF. An incremental upgrade
    Or...
    - A side model (Z9S, Z9X, Z9H, I don't know), with the Sony 24mp global shutter sensor, new processor, new CFex standard
    Or
    - A revolution, new processor, new CFex standard, new revolutionary home made sensor

Respectfully, I watched 4 minutes of this video and you still had not gotten to the point of the video, nor did you seem to be getting there any time soon. If you have a chance, compare your approach to that of Tony Northrop. At 25 seconds into his video on Instant Cameras, he has already managed to explain the topic of the video, hinted that one camera is virtually unusable, showed an actual photograph from one of the cameras and even put up an onscreen graphic with tips for using a particular instant camera. ruclips.net/video/5A2pPLgFVq0/видео.html

Global shutter will be a different model, not Z 9 line. Z9ii will still be rolling shutter with ultra fast readout speed.
The Nikon global shutter model will follow another line.
