I hope and pray that whatever you are facing as a family... May you come out of it with ease... May you and your family be blessed with health and happiness...
Quite honestly Nikon will need to pull off some pretty amazing features to top the current Z9. Maybe RAW pre-cap and even faster fps? Re: global shutter, it’s currently a highly overrated feature. Especially with the Z8/9’s current 3.7ms stacked sensor. But it will be the norm in years to come as the technology gets better and less costly (RED global sensor of course now owned by Nikon…)
All this gear stuff aside, because in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter a rip when there are family things happening. I want to send many blessings and prayers for all of that to have the most positive outcomes. Please, take the time away from here if you feel inclined. A post just letting us know that you're still present is enough. Thank you for an exciting 2024 in news and rumors. It was my year for Canon, having purchased the RF 200-800 and the R5 II. The live release "party" was fun and informative. I got to use your affiliate link, I think, for the first time, buying my new camera and grip. I was more than happy to support the channel. I hope 2025 is a great year for Canon, Nikon and Sony photographers. We all love innovation. Thank you, Simon, for continuing this channel. Have a blessed Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. - Cathy, NJ, USA.
You and I had a similar year. Should have gotten your 200-800 in 2023, but enough said about that. The other lens I picked up was the 50 f1.4. It's surprisingly wider than the f1.2. I do like it though. The family challenge is more on my wife's side, but it affects us all. A sad start to 2025 or a and end to 2024... Not sure yet. Happy Christmas Cathy and Happy New Year. I get a sense that 2025 will be off to a big start.
Hey brother man, as always, thanks so much for the education, information and the excitement you bring daily. I always look foward to watching your channel. I pray everything is okay with the family brother.. Thankyou for sharing and continuing to be you.
First of all, thank you so much for this year full of valuable information that helps us stay informed about what’s happening in the world of photography. Secondly, I hope those challenges can be overcome in the best possible way and that, in the end, they become nothing more than a distant memory with a happy ending. Lastly, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and an excellent 2025!
Paying RUclips will have the ads disappear. I won't do those sponsorship 30-90 second ads. I find them too annoying no matter how much money they offer.
Merry Christmas to you in the land up over. Opposite the land down under...😂😂😂!!! I crack myself up... As always, keep up the good work and keep'em flying...from the little red planet...😆!
Merry Christmas Simon - I hope and pray whatever the challenges are and any personal issue will quickly resolve and thank you for all you've done - You have been s real blessing to our community.
Seems interesting, however global shutter is still in it's infancy days. Combined with the inevitably high price tag and niche applications (in regards to genre of photography, like sports and wildlife) and I can see it becoming the 4K bluray of camera tech. Relatively high quality given enough time but still fairly niche overall.
Hi Simon, your Nikon prediction seem pretty realistic. The biggest mystery might be finding a suitable name for their a9iii competitor with a partially-global sensor .. will they end up like Sony having 2 flagships with one named '1' and the other named '9' ?? I'm crossing my fingers your family manages to resolve the challenges smoothly 🙏
Said it before and I'll say it again, love that Nikon shirt. Off topic I know, but still. Great video as always and I hope your family is ok, merry Christmas.
Nikon Z9 at over three years old is still arguably one of the best cameras on the market, probably the best value as well. I have no interest in another 24mpx camera like a potential Sony A9III copy from Nikon. We may have reached somewhat of a tech bottleneck where these upgrades aren't quite significant for the premium prices they charge.
It's going to be very difficult to improve on the Z9. 20 years ago, it was improvements of the camera that offered so much. Today, high tech will be limited (under utilized) by the ability of the photographer'. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be many new game changing tricks left in the hat. Thom Hogan had a nice discussion about this subject.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2025, Simon. I hope your family issues will resolve soon. Thanks for all the great work over the past year. One question on Nikon: Isn’t Nikon using Sony sensors? If the A1 mk 2 did not get a global shutter, how would a Z9? Or is it lifted from Red?
If Nikon can improve the performance of the Z9 and add global shutter sensor it will be a hit. Global shutter will appeal to cine users and RED has already produced a great global shutter sensor. Put this in the Z9 body and you have a true hybrid that no one can touch. But they cannot lose the PR battle.
Panasonic desoartly needs global shutter or at leash much much faster readout. Both focusing is improved as well as rolling shutter telephoto slow no etc.
Global shutter will be more of a Tech showcase , and competition to Sony , unless that sensor has amazing Dynamic range (I remeber hearing Red Has a Sensor capable of 15 stops) As an owner of a Z9 , All I need is better AF , Better Viewfinder , better counter for LED light all those are enough for me to upgrade. Nikon answered my prayers of adding shutter Angale , Amazing!! , now open gate , 32-bit internal audio recording ,refined Video AF , and it's a ture Hybrid. Pre-capture raw - I don't use pre-capture because It's not Raw ,so I mostly do without but it will be nice to have as Raw , even at reduced FPS. Faster FPS - always welcome. Edit - Hope your familiy is ok and safe! sorry did't finish the video on the first loop.
What Leaked Information? There is lots of speculation and guessing. Driven by non-professionals "hopes" - all the pros I work with love the camera. Most of us want tweaks that should/me -- e.g. ability to save multiple shooting recall holds not just one; ability to save RAW when using pre-capture. The only other stills improvement would be 30 fps RAW, pixel shift. Other Movie/Video improvements would be for a display to include false colour when shooting vids. Other than that we wait to see if there will be a Nikon RED version of the Z9 or Z8 with extra connections and ability to save to an SSD. We have no idea what more is possible with the Z9. The latest FW 5.1 show us owners than Nikon keep improving the product we bought a few years ago. I for one am grateful.
As a Sony user for the moment, I keep fingers crossed for Canon R7 II with stacked sensor, because it's all I wanted from A6700 - having high megapixeled stacked sensor with 15-20 fps and pre-capture, even for beeing 1.25k $ more, than it is. WE NEED flagship APS-C camera on the market, as other manufacturers sleep on it.
Bearing in mind Nikon’s typical 4 year refresh, we know there will be a Z9 refresh in 2025. We know everything will be improved and we can guess there will be some sort of autofocus chip onboard. I spent my life listening to people that claim to be “in the know”, it’s usually 90% nonsense. I know your channel is all about rumours and speculation, but this smacks of a story about nothing.
2025 will be the year of the global shutter!!! The people have spoken! People want a global shutter even if it sacrifices Dynamic Range. Sure we’d all love 16 bit raw but 12 bit raw with a global shutter is still huge especially for us shooting handheld and fast action photo/video. Canon is supposed to put one in their line up, now Nikon and Sony may revamp their current global shutter camera. Can’t wait to see what everyone brings to the table.
I hope and pray that whatever you are facing as a family... May you come out of it with ease... May you and your family be blessed with health and happiness...
I appreciate your prayers and kinds words. All the best to you in the New year :)

Improvements to the AF are always welcomed. But I agree. Its already a pretty amazing camera.

Nikon is NOT going to put a Global Shutter in a Camera called the Z9ii. It will be a completely differently named model.
Didn't I say that? Me thinks I did ;)
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker you did
@@OrdinaryFilmmaker Don't matter, you Thumbnail is what's matters.
You did say it is stacked sensor and proceed to right on the information panel on the screen that “it is not a stacked sensor”

Very much appreciated. We are faced with a circle of life situation, which is never easy to go through whether sudden or planned.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, and all on this podcast. Like that shirt. LOL got a chuckle, when noticed half way through your podcast.

With the super high read out speeds of the newest flagships, is global shutter even needed??

Is there any improvements in the RAW FPS to rival or exceed Canon R1/ Sony Flagships with a new Z9 replacement?

I still don't understand why Sony doesn't kill the Nikon name, why do they keep them afloat?
