    No. 7 reason is quite impressive. I switched my lens from autofocus and manual focus and I love when manual focusing, the focus square changes from red to green when the subject is in focus. I really like the Expeed 7 processor that is in this camera.

    This is THE best video of the Zf. As a 2018 Z7 buyer, all your upgrade points we spot on for me. I think the 28 mm 2.8 and the 40 mm 2.0 will complete "the look" of the film Nikons.

    What I just realised is how beautiful the Shutter Button really is. Let me explain. First I used decoupled AF and had a Soft Release Shutter Button attached to it. But without a strap it's a struggle to operate with a Back Button AF one handed ... and it's really unsafe, even with the Smallrig Grip.
    So I reconfigured the AF back to the Shutter Button but it was impossible for me to hit and hold just focus. I was more likely to immediately take a picture. I already was about to give up because I thought the Shutter Button had no noticeable first step for the AF which annoyed me a lot.
    But then I tried without the Soft Release Shutter Button and what can I say ... I'm never going to use the Soft Release Shutter Button ever again. Not only that the AF step is noticeable, it is such a satisfying feeling to use this metal and polished Shutter! That's something I wasn't used to anymore ... the closest to it was maybe my M9 and the X-Pro 1. But most of the time I had used modern SLR's, DSLR's and Mirrorless. I did not expect that I could ever enjoy a Shutter that much and now I think that I probably just didn't realize it on my M9 and X-Pro 1.
    If you like engineering and the combination of used materials in any shape of form, you'll know exactly what I mean :)

    I just had my hands-on on a Zf during my visit of a local Nikon show room and I love it. I own a black Zfc with the original hand grip from Japan, so I was really curious to see how it compared. Surprisingly, it was lighter than I anticipated and easier to hold without the grip than the Zfc. I'm so crazy about this camera, but I also am not sure, because the Zfc is so much smaller and lighter with the 16-50 DX lens and the 26mm pancake which I usually use with it. I also think selling it so early is wasteful, as I will lose value. On the other hand... life is short...

    • @TouchLifeStudio

      Well, if you do end up getting the Zf, at least you don't need to buy another lens as you can use your 26 mm, which is actually was made for a full frame camera, like the Zf :-)

    I just got mine, was originally a Nikon shooter (D5000, D500), then moved to Fuji for practical reasons (XT20, XT3, XT5 and xh2s), but couldn’t resist the chance to have a reasonably priced full frame camera with the possibility of using my other old lenses. For now I only got the 28m/2.8. I also got the grip, found the one on the camera too shallow even for my small hands.

    I'm just waiting for Nikon to bring the auto rotation from photo to video. I am having more client wanting vertical video along side horizontal. When you have an event covering over a week or couple days and come back with multiple vertical videos and have to manually rotate in the NLE - slows down the work flow. My only issue with z9 now. Im having to use other brands for this small reason. Called Nikon and emailed severally to request, hopefully they do. Great camera nonetheless.

      @@TouchLifeStudio Taking short clips through an event to piece together for say the organization whatsapp group or social media. Its painful actually. Sometimes the rotation done manually can stretch the video, just the rotation could change the aspect ratio as well, so having to sit to bring it back normally so people are not looking stretched. Sony and canon cameras (the ones i have tested) rotate the video automatically when brought into final cut or davinci. Speaking to apple and the folk at davinci, its simply because the nikon cameras are not writing the orientation to the metadata of the video.

    The fully functional screen is a big plus when the camera is attached to various astronomical telescope types. A scope pointed skywards on many mounts makes it impossible to see a fixed screen. Also old style knobs with white lettering is a big plus when in the dark and not having to touch screen menus when wearing gloves. Astrophotography folks will know what I am talking about. I have a Z611 and don’t use it on my many scopes because the screen is nearly in a difficult position. Southern Cross Observatory-Tasmania 42 South.

    Nice video and great summation of the many upsides of the Nikon Zf. I think if it weren't for the ergonomics and/or I just had the extra money, I would definitely get this camera - I would love to have it as a walk around camera - but I would need it to double as an event camera. I know you say that as a B camera for events with the Small Rig grip it would suffice, and I agree, it would suffice.
    But that said, the Z6III is likely around 6 months away and I think that camera will have everything this camera has (except the charm) and also some more surprise features that we are not aware of yet. I expect the Z6 III to be a break out camera for Nikon - I think the Zf is just a small taste of what is to come. The only rational reason that Nikon has/is taking this long to release the Z6III (arguably the most needed camera in the entire line up) is because they must be making a masterpiece to clearly out do the competition at the $2500 price point.
    I think it will have a full vari-angle screen (like the Zf) but also be probably 30-36MP, it will do full frame 4k 60 (maybe 4k 120), and have all the other new features of the Zf (i.e better IBIS, manual focus assist, pixel shift etc.) But also, I think it will have some surprises - not sure what, but maybe an ultra fast stacked sensor (like Z8/9 - not MP but in speed) and who knows what else. I also expect its ergonomics to be similar if not the same as the current Z6 II - maybe with one or two additional function buttons.
    All in all, I think the Z6 III will likely be the ultimate event photography camera and so I find myself waiting for it and for now will suffice with my Z8 and my Z6 II as a second camera (poor me lol). But, as I mentioned, if I did have the extra 2k to spend, I would buy this camera in spite of what I have said here - just because I think it is so cool and reminds me of the old days shooting with my Nikon FE 2 - It would be fun to have this for walk around, travel and general fun uses. For pro work, I will stick to the cameras that are designed with those ergonomics in mind.
    Once again, Vitalli (spelling?) nice video. I find your channel to be interesting and entertaining. It is nice to get the perspective of a fellow practitioner as opposed to the opinion of a random RUclipsr which there is so much of now.
    Thanks again :)
    -PD

    • @TouchLifeStudio
      @TouchLifeStudio  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the kind word, PD!
      Yes, the Zf camera is not an everyday work horse and certainly probably takes the last place when it comes to ergonomics. But when it comes to everyday, in a bag camera, it defiantly meets that need. And thats what I wanted to have camera on me more often. My Z9 and the Z6II is not something I want to bring around.
      As far as Z6III, I agree with many of your points and I think it will be something special and will check boxes for many event photographers. I hope it will NOT exceed 36 MP and I would love to see Nikon implement the Sony’s new screen which tilts and swivels, but I’m not sure whether it was pattened. .

    • @photographydiscourse1185
      @photographydiscourse1185 Год назад +2

      @@TouchLifeStudio I understand and agree with your thoughts here. The Z6 III will have a screen like the Zf if the Sony one is patented, but it will likely be like the Zf anyway as there are economies of scale in having similar parts on multiple products. The Sony screen does seem to be the best design at the moment - I guess Nikon can't be the very best at everything! lol

      It will be hard to sell the z6iii if Nikon decides to bring out a z5ii with a BSI sensor. Imagine a $1300 brand new BSI sensor camera with the new Expeed 7 processor. That would be game changer and would bring more new users to Nikon.

    • @photographydiscourse1185
      @photographydiscourse1185 Год назад

      That would be great! But I do not think that it would make it hard to sell the Z6III. The Z6III in that case would likely be a stacked sensor if the Z5II were BSI an/or would definitely be more MP in the 30's as opposed to the 24MP that Z5 would likely be, and most importantly Z6III would be a much more competent video camera, and have the CF E B card that the Z5II likley would not @@WidePhotographs

      While I ghink it is not an upgrade to yhe z6, I do think that even if this camera with its retro look, looks like the retro style photography camera, I think it might be nikon most versatile camera at enthusiasts price point. I mean the combination of the very good 24 megapixel camera and the very very powerfull xpeed 7, makes a very fast and capable camera.
      If you are a pro wildlife and sport photographer, you would preferably use thd z8 and z9. But this camera has still fantastic focusing speed, low light and nice frame rate to be useful doing some action photography. But for $1900, I got myself a brand new Z 50mm f/1.8 lens and a used mirrorless camera that has a BSI sensor. I just hope when the used z6ii arrives, it doesn’t have electronic issues for the next 2 years lol. BH Photo says it has taken 7,500 shutters so far. Not sure what that means but sounds a lot.

      It's a bit heavier than my FX30, which is my vlog camera although, I used the Z8 more when I'm out and about, lol. I like it but, I look at it as what the Z6 II should have been with some things still lacking. For me it's a bit of a downgrade in terms of video capabilities, no RAW, no 6K, mini HDMI port and adding the grip makes it even more heavier than the FX30.

      @TouchLifeStudio  Год назад +2

      @@waynerm002 it’s sounds like video is priority for you (based on your comment). The FX30 is a great camera and mainly for video. The point of Zf is that it’s amazing in photo mode and does a fabulous job in video and can be totally used for as b-camera for photo and video. But I’m glad to hear that you use multiple systems (Nikon and Sony) and I’m sure that adds value to your work.

      I am just so comfortable with the ergonomics of the Z5, having more buttons and better placement. The only upgrade for me would be the processor and firmware. I do love the top dials very much, but dislike the shutter button and prefer z8 LCD mechanics.

      @waynerm002 Год назад +1

      @@TouchLifeStudio Yep, video spec is more important to me today, I prefer the feel of the Z8’s grip and would like to see Nikon do a Z6 III with even more performance in both areas. I’m in South East Asia these days and when I record my videos, I typically do a long take and edit later. In that area I prefer the FX30 as I don’t get any hot card or camera warning (A7R V and Z8 does), I traded the A7R V for the Z8 with increased video specs and photo capabilities, should the need arise, plus it felt better in the hands (would be nice to have the A7R V’s screen on the Z8) than the Sony. Will Nikon make a hybrid camera with a fan? I hope so. I do like the Zf and the features it has, I may get one but, it doesn’t call to me like the FX30, A7R V and Z8 did. I figure Nikon will do a firmware update to include some of the features of the Zf in the Z9/8, I’ll wait for those.

The first think everyone talks about is the design and that is what kept me from buying it. Just shot a charity event was running and going from 6 pm till 11 pm. I could not be bothered imagine doing that with this camera. I don’t won’t 50 year old ergonomics. I don’t want nostalgic, retro. Give me command wheels and comfortable ergonomics. The only thing that interested my in this camera was the improved auto focus. Was hopping I could stand how it feels in the hand till the Z6III comes it. The design was a deal breaker for me.
