9 really useful English three-word phrasal verbs (transitive verbs)

  • See some three-word English phrasal verbs in action. Yes, three-words, not two!
    Most phrasal verbs are made up verb and another small word - a particle.
    But some phrasal verbs have three words - a verb and two particles.
    In this video lesson you'll learn nine common ones:
    look forward to
    get away with
    come up with
    get round to
    feel up to
    come down with
    get out of
    put up with
    grow out of
    We'll show you how we use them in action, look at their meanings an also explore their grammar.
    These English verbs are all inseparable and transitive, so the three words always stay in the same order and they're always followed by a noun. And if you want to follow them with a verb? No problem. We'll show you how to transform the verb into a gerund (a noun form of a verb).

    Today, I learned what a gerund is. And I’m a native English speaker!

    • @SimpleEnglishVideos
      @SimpleEnglishVideos  3 года назад +3

      Ha! This is so funny. I had no idea what a gerund was either till I became an English teacher. It's not a term most native speakers need to know. For learners it's a different matter because gerunds come up all over the place and are often a cause of mistakes. Thanks J.Ailor

    I really love your videos, so creative and useful. As a learner gerund can be challanging, sometimes hard to decide when i should use. I know that after some words with feeling(hate, love,like etc... after prepositions: of, to, about etc,special words like avoid, time, but there are some exceptions so I have to be careful with gerund lol

    • @SimpleEnglishVideos
      @SimpleEnglishVideos  3 года назад

      So true, Seijuro! Gerunds can be tricky, but you can rest assured that you need them if you want to use a verb after these verbs.

    • @SimpleEnglishVideos
      @SimpleEnglishVideos  3 года назад +1

      Ah yes, they are curious. We're playing with the word order with 'long time no see' so it's rather weird, rather like when we say 'No can do' instead of 'I can't: Hopefully 'Look forward to seeing' will become easier if you think of 'look forward to' as one word. The order of the words never changes. Thanks for writing Candy.
