I own the Marvel Phase One briefcase set, and I got it autographed by Stan Lee in 2016. That is by far the most valuable piece of my collection
heh,i dont collect crappy movies
Ill give you $5 for it.
@@bigben9056 I feel like the MCU lost its mojo. I only like a select few. I think most are overr6and not very good but nonetheless there pretty good to binge when bored
That's awesome bro, Ive seen that collection sell for over 1500 dollars! There might be some DC fanboys in here lol
@@bigben9056 I bet there's some far shittier movies in your collection than phase one marvel.
What I love about physical media is that everyone has their own completely unique collection. Not only are the films within the collection different depending on each person's tastes, but the versions of each film. Seeing your Halloween films there; I've got a steelbook of 1, Scream slipcover of 2 & 3, regular American versions of 4 & 5 (but customized with the addition of the bonus disc from the Scream boxset) and the version of 6 from the boxset. It's my own bespoke collection of Halloween based on what I wanted to get and there's something very satisfying about that.
Nailed it my friend
Yeah ur right, we dont buy to sell. We buy bcuz we love our physical copies.
Kepano 808HI reported
I do both!
@@thedarknate0845 yeah if I see a out of print dvd or blu ray for a good price I'll get it and sell it to my local small business get some profit. Then just get some blu Ray's and save some money for later.
@@Dreyz-pg2zz yeah its just finding places to sell them where you can make a profit!
RIGHT ON!!!
One of things i like about this channel is the quick introduction.
He gives a breif preview of what the video is about and then his channel credit is quick.
God i hate those you tube content creators that have a 5 minute channel credit and i minute of actual content.
I am also primarily Blu-ray but I still have a DVD release of a very difficult movie to find - Disney’s Something Wicked This Way Comes. I think Disney regretted ever producing this one even though I find it fantastic.
I have the original vhs of this.
I have that one on DVD and really enjoy it
I found it for 9.45 almost instantly
My most valuable bluray is probably my Breaking Bad barrel.
Picked it up for $90 last year at an FYE and I love it
sound cool
@@Petersonmgee I’m seeing $170+ on eBay
Thanks Jeff. I remember watching Romero's Dawn of the Dead at my friend's house on his parents' front projection screen (like the one Lex Luther had in Superman the Movie) in the early 80's when we were in junior high school. I remember thinking what a unique, bizarre and funny film this was. I especially liked the scenes showing the chaos and breakdown of civilization in the beginning of the movie with the ominous bass heavy soundtrack in the background.
Congrats on 30K! I love your channel, and you’ve really helped me with/inspired me to start collecting.
So glad to see others that still love their physical media like I do. I leaned some good info from this video. Thanks!
Only thing I've got is Dogma on Blu-Ray. Matt Damon is my favorite actor and I made it a point to own all of his movies.
(I have like 200 films in my collection not just Dogma, that's just the only one worth anything)
As you mentioned earlier that you collect vinyls, maybe make some episodes about that also. Would love that.
I concur.
Me too
I never looked up my vinyls even after 40 years there still not worth that much.
The plural of vinyl is vinyl.
@Stephen thank you
Hey dude, been watching since 3,000. First time writing in but just wanted to say that I love your content and I'm really proud to see how this channel has grown.
I'm quite proud that most of my purchases are limited editions. Not necessarily expensive boxset, but slip covers are often limited, sometimes booklets or reversable covers, bonus discs etc. Lots of releases are limited and it is quite satisfying owning them due to the fact that you have it, you don't need to worry about missing out in future.
As you probably know the UK label Second Sight are doing both a separate 4K and Blu-ray set for Dawn Of The Dead
Yeah I heard it was put back at the start of the year, bloody October though.
Hadn't heard, thanks for the info.
Well done for making this video it was very helpful of understanding the blurays of their values and not to mention boxset editions or limited editions like you also mentioned in the video that's why I love collecting collectors edition cause not only are they rare but as most of us do know that they can be worth a lot too.
Probably Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, The Bruce Lee box set from Criterion, The Little Mermaid OOP Mondo Steelbook, and the Toy Story complete series Maori import.
My James Bond 25 movie blu-ray collection is my most valuable movie collection. Love it!
I find the Scream Factory slips to be very flimsy and absolute magnets for shelf wear. Often they do t survive retail without getting chewed up. I remove all the slips, throw them in a box in the closet, and the discs look better than they did with them on. It’s a real shame.
There is a new Zatoichi blu-ray box set in print from Criterion, but the box set that you have is out of print and it is larger and different in some way, perhaps because it has both DVD and blu-Ray? I can’t remember exactly.
I have the Sleepaway Camp movies with slip covers and that is awesome to know that they have some value. Interesting video!
I’m so upset at myself for getting rid of my blu rays a couple years back. I fell into the “Digital” trap 😤
There is always time to come back to the right side of things!
Wow gotta keep them especially now
I know. I just got the original Star Wars trilogy on digital because I don't have a VCR for my VHS copies.
thats bad news
i have this too, I want to sell mine
I realize this video is a year old but I wanted to thank you! Watching this video I recognized that Zatoichi box set. My younger brother bought one at launch and we had no idea it was sought after.
I have a couple of those Sleep-A-Way Camp movies on dvd! I ALWAYS also buy the Target Exclusives bluray/dvd of the Marvel/DC, Star Wars, and other special edition movies!!
I'm with you, Jeff. My most beloved boxed Bluray (and out of print) sets that grace my living room book shelf - yes, among some great books - for display because it's packaging is so great. Hitchcock Collection (2012), Kubrick Collection (2011), Bond 50 (2012), Star Wars Saga (2011) to which I've included the last three film's blurays for a true ennead (9) of films (it had 3 slots for bonus which I've moved to it's own custom case).
Godzilla vs Biollante is another blu-ray that became really expensive. I'm glad I bought that one when it came out.
I had to order in a Dutch DVD in order to watch it legally. I had to download an English SRT, but it worked okay.
Lucky I only have the dvd
There is a small collectible niche, but, it's hard to predict what titles will be worth $$$. 2 big things that make a title worth some big money is when a title goes out of print or when a title is recalled by the studio. Great example of an out of print title is the Friday the 13th box set shown in this video. The studio usually doesn't announce the title going OOP & you gotta scramble to try & get your hands on a copy at the MSRP. What's a bigger deal than a title going OOP is when a title is recalled by the studio. This can happen for a number of reasons. Three cases that come to mind is Little Shop Of Horrors, This Is Spinal Tap, & the Wes Craven film Swamp Thing. Little Shop, & Spinal Tap were released on blu-ray w/o the directors consent & when this happens, the director of each film filed a junction w/ the studio, making the studios recall all copies. This causes any purchased copies to become instant collectibles. The case w/ Swamp Thing was MGM used a European interpositive of the movie, when they pressed the film on DVD. The problem was nudity in the film (boob shots), The U.S. print had no nudity & was rated PG. Once a soccer mom complained to Blockbuster Video about the movie, Blockbuster sent an email to MGM/UA & got the title pulled from shelves. Be forewarned that the studios can fix all of these issues & re-release the titles at a future date.
Always keep a lookout for a reasonably priced Blu-Ray at garage sales and thrift stores to buy so you can upgrade your DVD copy to a better format...👌🏼💯✔
Herschel Gordon Lewis Feast from Arrow is one of the coolest releases from them and the price is pretty up there as well.
Thanks for the video man👌🏽I didn’t realize how much value I could possibly have in my collection
Love your observations and the fact there are still people collecting DVDs. I'm fortunate to have a couple of friends who are also into it. I do get some good natured ribbing due to collecting the old anaglyph blue/red DVDs, and yes, a few video tapes. Some look great, others...well. Goodwill's one of my favorite hunting spots.
DVD is still the mainstream format. It still has 70% of the market.
I picked up a sealed unsolved mysteries ultimate collection(the one from from 2006) 7 years ago for 100 dollars. It’s now going for 1300.00 sealed on amazon. I never got around to opening it, my girlfriend suggested opening it and watching some during this quarantine period, I was extremely quick to shut her down. Had to explain to her why. Funny this video comes out a few days later.
That is a steal. I would love to watch that, I don't know how you resist not wanting to open up the box. Old school Robert Stack is the bomb.
Wow, I just bought the ESPN 30 for 30 collection back in the beginning of March for 48 bucks on eBay now it's going for over 100! Glad I grabbed it!
Thank u 4 making this video very fun too know this stuff
Awesome Video thank you
You should pay attention to announcements and rumors about rereleases, because if a movie is rereleased, the old disc often loses value (because demand goes down). My Twilight Time edition of Leave Her to Heaven was worth around $90 until it was released by Criterion. So you do need to know when to sell. Collecting movies isn’t the best investment, because the number that increase in value are greatly outnumbered by the ones that only drop in value as they sit on your shelf collecting dust. The good thing about a movie collection is that you can watch and enjoy them.
Wow. I have that Guardians steelbook. Lucky me. Thanks for the heads up
I have a bluray/dvd combo pack of a movie called zaat. I payed like $10 for it and I guess it's very rare/opp and goes for like $100 or more. It's really cool finding gems in your collection.
I have a Friday the 13th complete set that comes with his mask that goes for 175-200 and I got it for $20 when it came out. Great display piece on my movie shelves.
I got that Jason tin set for $50 on sale at Best Buy a few years back on a Black Friday. Didn’t know it was worth so much.
311mikey same hahaha
It wasn’t worth tht much back then now it is lol
@@OfficialUknow Since the Scream Factory box set came out, I’ve seen these sets (granted, unwrapped) sell for like $60-70 on eBay so I don’t even know how much it’s worth anymore.
The alfred Hitchcock house collection box set is my most valuable
Bird and the crystal plumage also. Very high prices for the special edition
Friday the 13th set is awesome! I found it on eBay for $113 a few months ago. Also got ahold of the 15 disc Halloween collection for 85 on amazon a few years ago!
I still collect these always good to have the disc
What a great idea jeff !!!
Thanks for your sharing 🙏🙏🙏
I purchased a movie awhile back on DVD, named "Quiet Cool", and now out of print, fetching for 5x more than I paid for it.
I like your video. You are correct, as you never know what the fluctuating prices will be, and who will pay top dollar.
The guy that did the artwork for that Marvel phase 1 box set is great, I love his steelbook releases too. Wish he’d do the rest of the MCU for steelbook. The Thor Ragnarok steelbook has gotten quite expensive but it’s not even a particularly nice steelbook, so it’d be great to get a new release with that artists art style.
The Hellraiser box set not only holds some value due to it be limited, but also because up until that release there was no official bluray of Hell On Earth in the US. They were all imports or bootlegs. I purchased that set for this reason alone.
Totally random, but check out the value of Willow with the slipcover.
In the hundreds for something that originally cost, at most, $15 when it was first pressed.
Nice video - do more!
If you all want to play the "collector as investor" game, you've got to get into vinyl, it's the only physical media where the margins are worth it and the return is much more predictable.
Yeah you can flip in a pre corona world if you live near swap meets or flea markets. but it is not something to invest in with long term purchases.
@@glyn420 This is false. Ever since Discogs unified the global marketplace for vinyl, you dont have to stand in the sun anymore. I had 2 pieces last year that I bought for 100 and sold for 600. Both were opened, non mint and I enjoyed them for 2 years before a sale. Plenty of opportunities out there.
Chris C what the hell
Are you talking about? What you said has nothing to do with what I said.
I have the 30 for 30 locker set complete with the t shirt guide and all 4 dvd cases in my room lol
This was very interesting to watch. I would have to say that the most valuable item in my collection....for now anyway is the Friday the 13th collection you mentioned. I have seen the value go down since Scream announced their set coming out soon. I don't really collect anymore, but I am still on the look-out for Dead Alive on blu-ray. I adore that movie and would really like to get an upgrade from my DVD copy
Horror, Pro Wrestling and Anime are the ones I have found that really go up in value. I have some sets/singles/doubles that are easily worth over $75 a piece.
O yeah horror. I have a the beyond DVD metal box set. Has mini poster cards in different languages. I paid like 10 bucks back in the early 2000s.now it's worth around 150 bucks.
Shout Factory also released the four Bruce Lee movies individually for a short time after the compilation set with much better transfers (4K scans and proper color correction) and even more extras. I hope Criterion will use those scans because they are beautiful.
Pretty sure I got that Hellraiser set and Bride of Re-Animator at Newbury Comics for a decent price within the last few years. Also got the Friday the 13th Collection when that first came out. Do you have the Halloween collection from Shout/Scream Factory? I have that as well and it looks like the price has gone up. Like you, and I assume most people, I don't collect this stuff to sell it off, but it is nice to know some of them have some value.
When I first got the Hellraiser set, it had two copies of Hellraiser 2 and no Hellraiser 1. Creepy.
Congrats on the subs. I also have the black tin Friday The 13 collection. I bought it years ago on Amazon never thinking it would be worth as much as it is. I won’t give it up
Some good predictions in this video man 😂
I have the same Friday the 13th and Dawn of the Dead. Fright Night and John Carpenter’s Vampires (both Twilight Time) and Dead Alive are a few other rare ones I have.
I also have quite a few I havent mentioned that either are out of print and/or have no bluray or 4k release.
The live stream was dope jeff! Congratulations for 30k subs and all the winners!
Thank you Mr Stark
he is like the coolest guy for doing giveaways and great content!. And I actually do enjoy his content! Im glad people still do videos on physical media!
Tony Stark I won the frozen and I couldn’t get it cause I ain’t in America
just saw that black friday collection at second hand media store yesterday for $99. might be making a trip back there lol
One thing I've noticed with Scream Factory blus is that the SEQUELS are the ones that are the most rare. So, Slumber Party Massacre isn't super rare, but the set of 2 & 3 are really expensive. So, that is something I'm keeping my eyes on going forward.
My most expensive boxset is The Wonderful Worlds of Ray Harryhausen volume 2 by Indicator, I bought it on release and now it’s fetching big money with collectors.
I sold the Korean special edition of The Good, The Bad, The Weird for $250 on ebay and the guy was like "Thanks for the deal." haha
Mine would be the Japanese Kill Bill dvd, fully uncensored with the full colour House Of Blue Leaves fight.
So true, I don’t buy movies for the purpose of making money down the road. I buy them because I like the design/special editions that will look great in my collection and to show off.
I buy them to watch n enjoy,at my leisure
Cool video. Good message stressing not trying to collect for money. Collect for access.
Man, I wish I nabbed that Hellraiser set back when it came out.
I own The Dark Knight on Blu-ray. One time, I saw it selling upwards to $15. To get that much money on it, I might sell mine too. Then I could use the money to buy Cats on Blu-ray. 🥳
Cats is trash
nice video! my father bought me invaders from mars on bluray randomly one day after he came across it on amazon. it was still $9.99 then though lol. guess timing has to be perfect when collecting physical media
I need to check the value of some of my collection. I know the Trilogia de Guillermo Del Toro Criterion goes for around $200 and I have a Media Blasters Destroy All Monsters worth at least $100. I got those Bruce Lee's for $5 each at Walmart few years back and then got extras at Dollar Tree for $1 each. (No slips and gave away as gifts).
cool clip. im a fellow movie collector. my faves are my valuable ones. ya the steelbook cases are very cool. got a couple.
Iv got the guardians steelbook and the hellraiser box set, didn’t realise they were worth so much
I used to have a huge dvd collection then I started buying blurays but not near as much......now I only purchase 4k but I could probably count the 4k on both hands.
I dont have the drive to find movie collecting a hobby anymore.
I think part of it is.... there is sooo much to watch and I only have so much time. Streaming has gotten pretty good with the visual quality and sound quality and Im ok with that.
I do appreciate this cats knowledge and reviews though..👍
I think rarity is the biggest factor. Therefore the limited editions from boutique outlets like Arrow, Shout/Scream Factory, and Anchor Bay have the most potential to be worth more if/when they are out of print. I believe Criterion Collection movies can also easily appreciate value.
I also have a couple of valuable blu-rays/dvds since they went out of print pretty quickly...... Sometimes they do get re-released but most of them are left in the dust.
I have Bride of Re-Animator limited edition, Chucky Complete Collection, Creepshow 2 limited edition, Exorcist 40th Anniversary, Friday the 13th collection tin, Halloween complete collection, Hellraiser Scarlet Box, Hills Have Eyes limited edition, House the 4 movie collection, Nightbreed limited edition, Re-Animator limited edition, Resident Evil collection ammo box Best Buy exclusive, just to name a few.
Thanks for all the info, very informative. Do you know if there's any value in Laserdiscs (mostly NTSC but a few U.K. PAL ones), as I own a few. Thanks.
That's what I did with Dawn of the Dead a few months ago. Got it for $2 at a thrift store. My rare opp is Monster Squad Blu Ray. Look up the prices on DVD Compare. Got a lot of DVDs that I find for a dollar or two that are worth $. Warner Archive opp's mostly.
I think my favorite blu-ray I own is the RWBY Volumes 1-3 steelbook. I love the show and the steelbook is genuinely gorgeous. But I also have The Dark Knight trilogy boxset and that's a really nice one to have
It looks like the Criterion Zatoichi dusk format edition is OOP but not the Blu-day only edition, which is currently unavailable while Criterion prints more copies. Also, Dawn of the Dead is having a stacked LE released from Second Sight this year :)
Indicator Sinbad Trilogy boxset is my most valuable.
man ive been buying the arrow hellraiser movies individually i didnt even know they made that box set
This is only important when I'm dead lol my future grand kids could see my collection to a museum. Hopefully they are cool enough to keep them
I guess it depends which part of the world u live in. Some of these titles are avaialble in shelves here in Australia. I guess it has to rights and distribution from country to country
I have the French 30th anniversary steelbook of the back to the future trilogy that I had Christopher Lloyd sign when he came to Paris à few years ago. It has à huge sentimental value, but the most expensive blu rays I own are probably the UK Doctor who steelbooks (séries one is now very expensive, the cheapest I've seen it recently was 102 pounds on eBay). Series 6 just came out and I'm always afraid to miss a new set.
I love the channel and I've learned a lot! Thanks for all the content!
I have several "super bit" dvds.
Should i hang on to them?
I have been replacing them with 4k discs and i don't know if they are worth keeping.
I have on super bit.
Black hawk down
Starship troopers
Desperado
The patriot
The 5th element.
When i switched to blue ray these dvds were almost as good as the blue rays.
Thanks
I have the Ghostbusters 1 & 2 4k steelbook. I never got around to opening it and it looks like it's now OOP. Paid $40 and it had sold for $150 and $175 in the last week. I'll probably never sell it, but it's cool to see something in your collection going for that kind of money
My most valuable items is my Woody Allen Blu Ray Collection with every film of his that ever came out in the U.S, then my Hellraiser Scarlett Set, and my recent Django (1966) Arrow set that was never officially released in America due to blue underground
I own the Friday the 13th tin set and the three Sleep away camps but with out slip covers
The Jaws 4K steel book seems to fetch pretty good money too.
Also hard to find: The Prestige 4K slip cover, Thor Ragnarok 4K slip cover, Kong Skull island Best Buy exclusive Steelbook
The most valuable Blu-ray in my collection is actually a box set. The Scream Factory Friday The 13th set. Whenever there's a convention in my area involving Kane Hodder, I might try to ask him to sign it. (At one point, this set was worth $400. It's worth like $100 now. Not gonna even think of selling it.
You should do a video on how you store your DVDs and Blu Ray... Blind swordsman sounds interesting... Wasn't there a movie of that with Rutger Howard?
Can't forget about the Halloween 10 BD box set.
Very interesting & a great channel friend. I am a movie collector, & likewise have a great collection consisting of DVD’s & Blu-ray. As for the 4K ..? I think it comes to saying enough is enough. I’m 56 now, so to be honest, I ‘think’ I had my fill of upgrades (?). But after all said, I do have a fantastic 4K tv with a great surround system. I have two Blu-ray players (1 multi region) & both are upscalers, so I’m happy. Great channel though friend.
Hey I have the DVD version uncut version Dawn of the Dead on DVD when it first came out on DVD how much that's worth cuz I don't own the Blu-ray version I always wanted it especially movies I don't buy it during the normal Tuesday's when they come out to buy I usually wait till Black Friday sometimes all of them are on Black Friday for cheaper prices or collect up on movies I won't pay full price for
Do you know what August Underground snuff edition (signed by cast and crew ) would be worth? Probably one the rarer dvds I have. Never see it on ebay.
Great collection Jeff , you need a bigger room
