I’be been looking for a channel like this. I think some people are under the false assumption that all 4K releases are created equal. In some cases your probably better off sticking with your Blu-ray copy. Kind of reminds me of the early days of DVD when some companies would slap on old VHS transfer on a disc and call it DVD quality. 😀
It depends on the movies. Some are fake 4k and some are real. U should stick with blu ray if the movie u want is fake 4k. But stuff like jurrasic park that uses real 4k is a most deffinatly buy. Also the dark knight too. Which was a amazing movie and filmed with imax camera.
For number one I would have also included the original Blade Runner. The transfer gives new life to the movie, and both of them are perfect companions to each other
I completely agree. Blade Runner 2049 in 4K is my favorite. I've watched it four times so far. I own quite a few 4K movies and that one is by far my favorite.
Dude Blade Runner 2049 was so great!!! Glad to see someone else that’s come to their senses pertaining to this matter- that and The Godfather Part 2 are the best two sequels of all time in my mind.
I think you should NOT have discs without Dolby Atmos or Dts X or Auro3d on your Top 10 discs list, because it should be the best picture AND sound combined.
You are not alone. Not sure about Avatar, but James Cameron is supposedly working on The Abyss and True Lies for BR & 4K. No release dates for those though yet, so I suspect maybe the holidays? There are the new Avatar movies coming, so perhaps it will be released with them.
Avatar was shot digitally, and I suspect it'd be a 2k intermediate upscaled to 4k, so not true 4k... LOTR would be a massive job - they'd have to fix the green tint fuckup from the last release for starters, then probably re-work each SFX element too...costly and timely...
This list is pretty bang on the money. The Nolan films are stunning. I started my 4K collection a couple of months ago with an Oled TV and Dunkirk, Dark Knight and Interstellar are all top picks for sure. BR2049 and the OG Blade Runner are also winners. Great list.
Love the enthusiasm and depth of knowledge on display here. Very well presented. You know the framing issue...but for me, the content and presentation well and truly overcomes that small gripe.
Oddly enough, I had the exact opposite experience with Ghost In The Shell 2017; saw it in cinemas and it instantly became one of my favourite sci-fi releases of the decade, and I was so hyped to see it on my 4K TV-while it wasn’t a bad disc, it never had that ‘wow, *that* looked worth the 4K disc’ moment. Most of it looked like what I could’ve seen on standard Blu-Ray, spare the graveyard scene towards the end. So for me, 9+/10 movie, maybe 6.5/10 4K disc. Ah well. Xb And happy Christmas from the future! :b
Nice top 10! Some of your movies i got, too. But for me is the best 4k Disc Blade Runner 1. Absolutely. After this one is groundhog day. thanks for your great content!
Here's a simple guide: • Buy 4K discs with an amazing color palette • Look for the 4K 'Dynamic Range'... that shows off the spectacular colors • And stay away from the Romance movies and 'most' Comedies, that are live action (because the comedies that are animated are a much better incentive to purchase on 4K) [CAVEAT] - Just your regular Comedies and Romance kinds of movies really don't show off anything dazzling to warrant you buying those types on 4K, simply because 'comedies' and 'romance' movies will look the same - if not better - on a 1080p Standard Blu Ray disc ... just saying. Sometimes those comedies and romance ones somehow look degraded when upscaled to 4K. Standard Blu-Ray will then have better compression so it tends to look sharper and crisp. Again. Yeah, I agree. The 4K section at my local BB isn't huge but it's OK. I think they are auto discounting 4K most of the time to keep up with Amazon and the like, but occasionally I see something around full retail. I also watch that $15 display, just in case....

For me a 4k "top 10" MUST HAVE..a noteworthy story/acting, near Ref Quality a/v or better yet RQ demo worthy a/v worthy and there MUST be either Dolby Atmos or DTS-X (not too many 4k films using DTS-X...has this format gone by the wayside? Gotta wonder).
Subscribed. I like your personal commentary. Talking about some background or info not usually mentioned.
I wanted badly to buy the Dark Knight movies on 4k. Wiling to double dip. But since there is no Atmos...PASS. Unfortunately Nolan doesn't believe in Atmos.
wow I am totally excited to hear that Blade Runner 2049 is on your top 4K Bluray disc....I'm thinking of buying the regular bluray for Blade Runner 2049, but now will definetly buy this 4K version instead.....:)
Is the XBOX series X a good player for these titles? I have an LG OLED C2.
Dude with those red eyes you look like the Terminator.
Wow no 4k transformers movies?!
