It's fitting that "Lawrence of Arabia" is the best. It is, after all, one of the greatest and best movies ever made. I'm sure David Lean and cinematographer F.A. Young would be proud.
Just a correction on who did the 4K transfers for the Star Wars UHDs; All of them were done in 2012 by Reliance MediaWork as part of the then planned 3D versions. Disney did not work on the new transfers of Episodes I-VI.
I agree with your classification. Especially for Lawrence of Arabia. This 4K release is purely awesome for both picture and sound (Atmos track). Same as Blade runner ! A must have. I wish Jaws had benefited from same high quality restauration. I must admit I have somewhat been disappointed by Jaws 4K.
That sucks! I would love a standalone Lawrence of Arabia 4k! I couldn't care less about anything else in that box (okay: Dr. Strangelove & Mr. Smith goes to Washington, but that's it!) PS I didn't know about Spartacus being released until I saw a video you did on it. The story gets a 'B', but the visuals get an 'A+' for an older film. I really wanted to see the battle scene in 4k, and that was awesome.Thanks!
Is Rogue One worth the upgrade from Blu-Ray? I have the nine “Skywalker Saga” movies in 4K, but Solo and Rogue One are still just normal Blu-Ray in my collection. I love Rogue One as a film and I have thought about upgrading it to 4K, but I don’t really want to if it’s going to look the same as what I already have.
Bad boys for life and Dunkurk and even the Gremlins and jaws looked very good .... But I'm basing this off of 4k HDR torrent downloads (big files to 10- 80GB a movie but some at 1080p HDR in the under 15GB sizes ) from not actually discs, I don't have a player for my 65 inch Hisense H9F
So dumb to buy disc especially if they're just upped reverted waste of money TBH just download it if you can, especially if you're the own them on Blu-ray, why would you pay for a movie twice if buy one movie on Blu-ray you should be able to download it digitally free of charge with a download when new available....so dumb and a waste of money for the hard working man.

Good choices overall, but I'd put RAD on the list. For a film that hadn't had a release since LaserDisc....and then gets a 4K release with special packaging, limited edition, etc.

What equipment do you need to see the difference between 4K and normal Blu-Ray? I have a really shitty setup at the moment because I’m a broke high school student, and I just want to know what stuff I should buy in the future if I want to really take advantage of 4K quality. I currently have a mid-range LG 4K TV with HDR, an Xbox One S to play discs on, and no extra sound equipment, and with that setup Blu-Ray discs look 100% identical to 4K ones in my opinion. Without mocking my lame setup, does anyone have any suggestions for what TV/player/speakers I should purchase so that I’ll be able to tell the difference between 4K and Blu-Ray?
Hi Jeff! I wanted to give you a simple tip when holding up blu rays. To avoid glare on the cover, simply tilt the Blu Ray slightly up/down/left/right, whichever you prefer. You'll see that a slight tilt goes a long way. Keep up the great work!
Nabbed a few Criterion collection blurays over the weekend- Come and See, and 1984 from Barnes & Noble. It seems Criterion normally make transfer for old or classic movies as well as artsy fartsy movies, and international films. I talked myself out of getting Jaws 4K steel book from Best Buy. I really do like Jaws, but I've seen it literally hundreds of times that it gets so boring you know exactly what happens and know almost every lines.
This gives credence to older films looking better in 4K based on the source material. Love the review and you are correct, Star Wars Episode 4 is and will always be called A New Hope
I'm confused. There's 4K UHD and then there's Blu Ray. What's the difference? I picked up a couple movies that said 4K Ultra HD + Blu Ray, they cake with 2 CDs.
Best so far for me are Joker, Zombie, Rad, Jaws and almost the whole Columbia Classics set. Deer Hunter was pretty good too. I dig the HFR on Gemini Man, though I like Billy Lynn a lot more as a movie. Really looking forward to getting Spartacus in my mail box and still waiting for sales on all the Star Wars UHD's.
1917 is definitely good. I thought the image was really great. I think this list is determined solely on image and sound quality and/or how much of a leap over the older formats. Having said that, yes, the list is purely this person's opinions- As with most opinions, they are always subjective. I didn't agree with number one choice, but that's me. I'm not big on old movies 50+ years old.
I'm thrilled to hear that LOA made your #1 spot. Fingers crossed it'll be released on its own because I'd really love to add that disc to my collection. Hands down, it's one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen and on 4K, it's bound to look even MORE stunning.

I'm really hoping that they release a 4K version of Logan's Run. It was a big studio production with a lot of large, physical sets, and the bluray from 2009 looks no better than a standard DVD.
Just grabbed a Columbia Classics 4k set after watching this. Looks like the supply of them is drying up like you said. Best Buy is out of stock and Walmart online only has 5 in stock after I bought one (saved $25 or so off Amazon).
I agree LOA is amazing in 4k especially on a projector, the other movie I rate on a projector on 1080p was the untouchables, largely for the sound which is amazing, the picture is a very good sub 4k print too.
The Joker is one that everyone keeps putting on top ten lists and while it was a good looking transfer I wouldn’t personally put it as top ten. It certainly wouldn’t be the disc I’d pull out to show someone what 4K was all about.

Indiana Jones trilogy needs a restoration and 4K blu-ray release. The current blu-rays are nothing special!

Watched Lawrence of Arabia yesterday totally agree it looks amazing the atmos makes the score soar but David Lean was a master.

Jaws is incredible. Another that completely blew me away was The Mask of Zorro. Absolutely gorgeous.

The Xbox One X that's been out since 2017 has a 4k Blu-ray drive that's what I watch my movies on .
The Xbox One S which has been out since 2016 is a 4K Ultra HD Bluray player as well, that’s what I use for my 4K Blurays too.

Mortal Engines has the best Picture quality of my 4k movies so far, not the best movie but the Picture is amazing.
I think he’s just listing Blu-rays that were released in 2020. MORTAL ENGINES 4K was released in 2019.

The Star Wars prequel trilogy look amazing!!! There underrated masterpieces. Revenge of the Sith is by far THE best looking 4K I've yet seen!
Joker had great depth and black detail; haven't watched Lawrence yet but looking forward to it. 1917 would probably be on my list. Here's hoping for a 4k ALL TIME top ten. . .

seven worlds one planet looks draw droping.its cause cgi looks shit in 4k.4k looks best with pratical effects cause cgi cant match the detail of forrests and flames
