I get it... the film isn't exactly a masterpiece or anything. But the Arrow 4K LE box is an amazing release. The 4K disc looks fantastic. And the feature-length retrospective/making of documentary and 3-hour Ulysses Cut included on blu-ray are almost worth the price of admission alone.
Yeah I think inflation and other economic factors have certainly played a big role in the price increases over the last couple years. But I'm not too concerned about the availability of 4K physical moving forward. The format is still growing, and we're seeing greater 4K sales and release output now than we were a few years ago. But I do expect collecting to become a more expensive hobby over time, as physical media becomes more and more of a niche market. I actually did a video a couple months back on the future of physical media and whether or not it's dying. This is more of a deep dive (longer video), but check it out if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/OnYskRXKKf4/видео.html&t
I sort of agree but you don’t have to buy a title right away. Titles go on deal a few weeks/months after release day. Just have to search it out. Perfect example Heat on 4k was $7.99 USD recently. When it first released was like $24.95. Keep a list of titles you’re looking for and go searching. 😊 Now what’s gone out of hand are all the super-special-limited editions, and steelbooks. Studios are getting too greedy. Just give us a good 4k that’s all. At the end of the day you’re a fan of the movie first. Not the steelbook or slipcover.
@@PT-668 Yeah I hear ya. I think it's safe to assume most of us are movie fans first and foremost. But beyond that, different collectors value different things. For those of us who appreciate the packaging, it's often more advantageous to buy the title within the first 2-3 months (if not on release day), just to secure said packaging. But I get that not everyone places as high a value on that, and that's cool. I'm somewhere in the middle myself. I totally agree that you can get much better deals on most major studio stuff by waiting most of the time. And depending on the title, I often will wait it out a bit myself (particularly for major label releases). But for boutique titles (which is what I'm most interested in these days) with limited edition releases, box sets, slips, etc., I definitely tend to jump on those a little more quickly if I think they're in danger of selling out. Or occasionally, I'll pick up a steelbook if the title is important to me and I'm looking for something a little extra special (like with Heat -- that's a top 5 all-time favorite film for me, so I pre-ordered the steelbook when it was first released).
Mainly Best Buy has got out of hand. Amazon, Walmart, Gruv, direct from studio for the most part are not bad. Also we got spoiled for a long time. I have a DVD with an add for other DVDs circa 2002 advertising for 23.99. Take account for inflation that is 30.88 that is right in line for new 4K releases being 29.99. I still have my Best Buy sticker on my Avatar Blu-ray release from 2010 at 49.99. Adjusting for inflation that is 70.08. Very rarely are special edition boxsets with books that high. Go back further to Laserdiscs and VHS and adjust for inflation and you soon realize the pricing is not as bad as we think.
Thanks Ken! Yeah From Beyond kinda blew my mind. I was a blind buy, but it quickly rose to the top as a personal horror fave. The practical effects just look so damn good on that one.
What a great video. Loved how you describe the quality without boring us. I have lots of those you chose and many I was on the French about I am now actively searching for. Subscribed for more content. Thank you
One thing to note with The Martian, there are 2 releases in the US a theatrical only release and the extended cut that was shown. I believe only the extended cut release has Dolby Atmos and includes both cuts.
Very good point! I totally forgot about the extended vs. theatrical (although I would've of course recommended the extended cut regardless). But now that you mention it, I do remember specifically choosing the extended cut over the theatrical when I bought my copy. I'm glad you brought this point up here in comments for others to see, since I kind of brain-farted on that one LOL. Thanks for watching!
The Tremors 4K is in my latest video, which is a sequel to this one (it's #2 on the list - see link below). I haven't had the chance to watch my 4K of Tremors II yet, so I couldn't really comment on it: ruclips.net/video/RJoxvXQ7sJs/видео.html
Glad to see you back Fuzz and with an amazing shirt! I love your list and i’m glad Flatliners made the cut, I’ve felt like that’s a really under appreciated release.
Thanks John! Yeah I'm glad we're into Sept now... I've got a little more time to devote to the channel. I couldn't believe how good Flatliners looked when I first got it. Definitely a massive improvement over the old blu ray. I agree, it's not a title/release I've seen a ton of other people talking about.
Wow, what a collections that you have, Wish you releasing reviews of 4k discs that has good atmos tracks, one that makes your above speakers working all the time...
I don't have an Atmos system yet, so I don't usually focus much on the audio because of that. For that matter, I'm not always able to even use my 5.1 surround setup as often as I'd like. Lots of late night movie viewing via headphones for me. Thanks for watching.
Good point! Those are killer movies. I'm a huge Denzel fan, and I agree the 4Ks really do look great. I may have excluded them here, but for what it's worth, the Equalizer movies will be getting a little love in my next video (which should be out sometime on Friday). Thanks for watching!
Great video. Flew by. Great selection of movies. Shawshank is one of my all time favorite movies. Top Gun Maverick in my opinion is a really good reference 4k that i feel never gets recognized. Also, would love to see a 4k transfer of Orca the Killer Whale. Thanks for the video.
Oh yeah i agree - Top Gun Maverick looks awesome! Great 4K release. I did mention it in the honorable mention section of my last video on this topic, but I believe it was toward the end of the video. Thanks for watching!
Hey Fuzz, another great video! Happily I have almost every single title you recommended. Really wanted the “Phenomena 4k”. Sadly I had just picked up the 2 disc Blu Ray just prior it’s release. Hadn’t heard about the upcoming 4k until it was to late 🤬!!!! Couldn’t agree more with you about “Alligator 4k”. I also was born in 1970 & recall watching it on 📺 back when it was new. Hadn’t ever seen it uncut until the 4k release. What a fun film, just great! Still waiting on my “3 Days of the Condor 4k”. I’m still recommending “Jeremiah Johnson” for your viewing pleasure! Keep up the excellent work!!!
Thank you, and thanks for watching! Great choices too. My shirts come from different places, depending on the shirt. Some I bought off of eBay, others are concert shirts, etc. I think most of the movie shirts I usually find from various sellers on eBay (although occasionally I might find a cool one on Amazon).
Awesome, I have both of the Blade Runners! I would also like to add is Sicario (2015) may be a boarder line reference disc following The Revenant. My OLED C1 works wonders LOL! Thank you for the video.
Another great list Fuzz! Ironic again I have so much similar taste as you. Damn those Bladerunners not only look Amazing but are such GREAT films! From Beyond surprised me - those colors! But I only have the standard edition. Missed out on slip 😢 So Doctor Sleep is pretty good huh? I love the Shining…need to check that one out. Picked up Rollerball from your last list so thanks for making some more great recommendations!
Yeah Dr. Sleep is excellent. I went into it with very low expectations, but it turned out to be one hell of a film. Mike Flanagan managed to pull off a sequel that was respectful of not only Kubrick's vision, but also Stephen King's vision -- both at the same time! Quite the feat. And Stephen King was involved and wrote the script with Mike Flanagan. There's actually a director's cut that is about a half-hour longer that is supposed to be even better. I still need to watch it, as I've only seen the theatrical version, because that's what was on the 4K disc (the director's cut is only available on an included blu-ray and with the 4K digital code). But even the theatrical cut is awesome. Really good film. if you like the Shining, I think you'll definitely like Doctor Sleep. Thanks for watching and for the kind words brother! Let me know what you think of Rollerball when you watch it.
@@TheOriginalFuzz - well that settles it then. I’m ordering Dr. Sleep. Aiming to watch Rollerball soon so thoughts to come likely on my channel with a film like that - keep killing it my brother!
I subb'd because of this video- I saw the first one and got to much out of it and now here is a follow up-- When talking about LOTR Trilogy I am interested not only in the 4K upgrade but the extended version as well- It supposed to have an extra hour added to each movie which is as long as another 3-hour movie! Thanks Fuzz!
That's awesome! Thank you so much for watching and subbing. Really appreciate that. I just made a third video in the series a few weeks back. It's on my channel home page... I now have a playlist for this series.
I have both Pulp fiction and Reservoir Dogs on 4K but still haven't got around to watching them Fingers crossed for the rest of the Quentin Tarantino movies to get 4K releases (Yes I know once apon a time in hollywood and Inglourios Basterds have 4K releases because I also own them)
I watched part 1, now watching part 2, so far only "Alita," "Top gun Maverick," and "The final countdown," are movies in my collection. My copy of the "The final countdown " has a lenticular slip cover that shows the ship passing through the "Wormhole"
Very cool! Thanks for watching! My dad has the lenticular slip for Final Countdown, so I've seen it, and it does look cool. I missed out on the lenticular and just went with the standard slip. But a great looking 4K. BTW, I also made a part 3 video in this series, if you're interested. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/RJoxvXQ7sJs/видео.html
@TheOriginalFuzz Thank you for linking part 3, I did have it pop up on feed, but It vanished when I clicked another video, I planned to find and watch it, though.
Enjoy the lists including the honorable mentions. My only complaint especially with boutique labels is lack of digital codes. I can live without the blu-ray disc but digital copy is great for traveling. At the $40+ price point, a digital code should be a given.
Yeah I agree -- it would be nice to have digital codes for the boutique releases. I don't stream too much, but like you, I do like having a digital library I can turn to when I'm traveling or with the family on vacation away from home, etc. Thanks for watching! I always appreciate it.
The Lotr 4k variant/remaster will probably go down in history as one of the most polarizing releases ever. I personally hate the dull color at the beginning of the movie. I loved the full and rich greens we were greeted with when Frodo sat under the Tree. Its a fantasy. It's fine to have oversaturated colors in the home-world, before transitioning to the darker and more serious parts of the Journey. I always loved the contrast it gave. Now, Frodo isn't in the shire, he is just in New Zealand, sitting under a tree. 🤷♂️
The extended version is included in 4K when you redeem the digital code that comes with the 4K disc. But it's also included on a blu ray disc with the 4K release. So you can either watch the 1080p blu ray or stream it in 4K. Not an ideal choice. But I suppose it's marginally better than no 4K of the extended version at all lol.
Thanks for giving WaterWorld some love. For those who cant get the Arrow version the other 4k by Universal is solid and personally i think looks better but doesn't include the Ulysses cut
That's a great idea. I may do that at some point. Although from what I've seen, the only downside to that kind of video is that there really aren't that many different 4K player models on the market now. It's only a handful of companies, with Sony and Panasonic being the main players in the market. In the meantime, I can offer this: On the lower end of the price spectrum, I'd recommend either a Sony X700 or a Panasonic UB420 (both are around $200 or less -- the X700 has Dolby Vision, while the Ub420 does not). I have a Sony x700, and I've found it to be a very solid player for the price point. For a little better player with more features, I'd recommend the Panasonic UB820 (around $400-$500). The Panny UB820 has pretty much become the industry standard for a lot of collectors. After that, it gets a lot more pricey ($1000+) with the Panasonic UB9000 (same electronics as the Ub820, just better build quality). Then there are the more high-end "boutique" 4K players that are REALLY expensive (from the brands Magnatar and Reavon). I don't have any experience with the really high-end stuff, but I do have a Panasonic UB820 that has become my primary 4K player, and I'm very happy with it. Oh and I would avoid LG 4K players altogether... they have way too many performance issues from what I've heard and seen. Hope this helps a bit until I can get a video going. Thanks so much for watching!
Just subscribed. Keep up the good work!!! You inspired to get some of these 4k movies. I recently just started my 4k movie’s collection.. been a long time blu ray collector but i felt like some of these are definitely worth the upgrade.
Thank you so much for watching and subscribing! Really appreciate the support. And welcome to 4K UHD! I'm loving the format... I began collecting 4K a few years ago and started out just upgrading a few key select titles that were important to me, kind of like what you're doing. It took me a little while to fully appreciate all the benefits of 4K, but once it all clicked, I was hooked lol. Next thing I know, the whole thing started to snowball, and more and more titles became worthy of an upgrade in my mind LMAO!
There are a lot of movies that I liked on your list and some I need to check out never thought you would mention road house. I have seen it before but might be nice to see it on 4k. One movie that looks amazing on 4k but movie was just ok is mortal engines need to see it.
I have Mortal Engines on 4K, but I haven't watched it yet. I've heard good things about the 4K. As for Road House, it really comes down to the restoration Vinegar Syndrome did, which was excellent. They really work wonders with these old films. The Road House 4K was a pretty big leap in quality from my old MGM blu ray.
Yeah it's a really good one. If you like Argento films, I think he was really firing on all cylinders with Tenebrae (and Phenomena). I forgot to mention this in the video, but there is a standard edition 4K coming out in the U.S. at the end of the month (Sept. 26). I believe it will have the same discs/content, just not the fancy box set (although I think it does come with a slipcover for the first pressing). It's pricey on Amazon right now (they have it sitting at MSRP at the moment), but I'm guessing the price will come down a lot more by release day (probably closer to $27-$35). Here's the Amazon U.S. pre-order link for the standard ed: www.amazon.com/Tenebrae-2-Disc-Special-Ultra-Blu-ray/dp/B0C4Q2R58P
@@Thundarr030 Oh right on! I think you'll really enjoy it. Plus it's got a killer feature-length retrospective documentary called "Yellow Fever: The Rise and Fall of Giallo" that is a very good Argento-centric documentary. Probably the best documentary I've seen included with an Argento 4k release.
I’d love a copy of Dawn of the Dead but it’s not out in the U.K. and the import version is almost £50. Every review I’ve seen says it looks stunning, and it’s an amazing film. One of the few remakes that’s credible, fun and thoroughly enjoyable.
Yeah I totally agree. Awesome remake. I've heard the Scream Factory titles can be pretty pricey to import for you guys. But it's always possible some label over in the UK may get the rights to distribution. So I wouldn't give up hope yet for a UK release. Thanks for watching!
I don't really focus on audio much. I don't have a Dolby Atmos setup (only 5.1 surround... no height channels), so I don't feel I can properly evaluate object-based surround sound mixes. So I just largely stay away from audio commentary altogether.
Thanks very much. My setup is pretty modest... nothing special or too high end. I have a Samsung 75" 4K panel (I don't remember the model number... I think it's an older mid-range unit, maybe about 5 years old. It was a gift. One of these days I'd like to upgrade to something a bit more robust... maybe an OLED or even a projector setup). And I have several 4K players... my primary player is a Panasonic UB820, but I also have a multi-region modded Sony X700 that has performed wonderfully for me. I do love having multi-region capabilities with the blus. As for audio, I don't even have an Atmos system yet -- still rockin' a traditional 5.1 surround. Lower-end matching Polk speakers for the front field (towers and center -- the T- series, I think) and a couple of comparable Pioneer towers for the rear surrounds. Sony receiver. Thanks for watching!
Love the channel what, sound system are you using for your movies? can you make a list of the best sounding 4ks and Blu-rays I'm a sound movie guy keep up the great work 👍
I would love to be able to provide some info about the audio, and maybe eventually I'll be able to. But right now, unfortunately, I don't really have the equipment needed to properly evaluate the audio in these releases. I don't have an Atmos setup... only a traditional 5.1 surround system. So no height/overhead speakers or anything like that. And I don't even get to use my 5.1 system as often as I'd like (a lot of headphone viewing late at night for me after the family is asleep). I would like to eventually upgrade to an Atmos system, and perhaps I can dive into the audio a bit more in the future once I do. But for now, it seemed best to avoid addressing the audio aspect, just due to the limitations of my own setup. Thanks for watching and weighing in though! I really appreciate it.
One I'm not sure if you've mentioned but is extremely widely (and correctly IMO) lauded as a _Reference Quality_ 4K is *The Revenant* though the movie is not to everyone's tastes. Another one not to everyone's tastes, in fact the opposite as it's widely derided as an actual piece of cinema, is 2018's *Robin Hood* with _Taron Egerton_ and _Jamie Foxx_ this one is one of those "bad movie but absolutely Reference Quality" 4Ks that, because it's not good, very few people get the disc and see just what it can do to demo your system... I got mine cheap second hand for this reason!
I haven't seen The Revenant yet, but I've heard good things about it. A lot of people have said it's a reference quality disc. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of Leonardo DiCaprio, so that's the main reason I haven't gotten around to it. But I'll probably eventually check it out. Thanks for watching.
I have Episodes 4-9 of the Star Wars films on 4K... the original trilogy is definitely a must-own on 4K for any Star Wars fan, in my view (well, any SW fan collecting 4K movies, that is lol). And then I have the prequel trilogy in a blu-ray set... I didn't feel the need to upgrade those to 4K. I know a lot of people can't hang with all the tweaking Lucas has done over the years, but it's never really bothered me that much.
Waterworld and Roadhouse are 2 of my favourite movies. Will have to upgrade my Roadhouse to 4K for definite. Just getting rid of my old DVDs as with my 120” projection screen the dvd upscale is no where near as good as blu Ray or 4k
I am still watch Fuzz :D Do you have any videos that focus on the surround sound mix of these? Do you have a top 10 in means of audio? Or are you just interested in with the imagery?
I don't focus on audio very much on this channel, because I don't have an Atmos system... I only have a traditional 5.1 surround. And I don't even get to use it as much as I'd like (a lot of times I'm watching movies late at night through Beats headphones after the family is asleep). I do appreciate good audio, but it's not something I feel qualified to talk about when it comes to movies for that reason. I can't properly evaluate it on my system.
@@TheOriginalFuzz Thanks for the reply. After my divorce, I kinda started my journey on watching content in the best way I can, so I bought an LG C2 OLED. I also have a 5.0 system too, so I am looking to upgrade it. That's why I asked :)
@@ufoozgur I can tell you one thing I've noticed though, just based on the system I do have. DTS-X tracks always seem to sound amazing to me... In many cases, I actually prefer the DTS-X mixes to Atmos mixes. But you don't see DTS-X as much out there. A lot of Universal releases have DTS-X (like the Fast and Furious movies or the Bourne movies, etc.). Anytime I've encountered a DTS-X mix, it seems like I'm always pretty impressed with them.
Final Countdown is an amazing release. Roadhouse is a great release. Blade Runner 2049 is not only good looking due to great cinematography and color palette, but the audio just makes it sound out so much. I too was surprised by how good Flatliners looked. I was really surprised with Alligator. Videodrome I am waiting for the Criterion release. Did you mention Coraline in previous video? That is top tier. Not your jam but amazing none the less is My Fair Lady. Another did you mention They Live? Fury for contemporary. I am a huge fan of Kong Skull Island in how it looks and sounds. RAD 4K is used market only now but a great Vinegar Syndrome release.
I haven't seen Coraline but I've heard great things about the stop-motion animation (which I have a lot of respect for, even though it's not really the kind of thing i watch verry often). I do have They Live (that badass Scream Factory steelbook) and Skull Island on 4K, and I agree they both are awesome releases! Great 4K presentations.
Yeah with the Arrow version, you also get the full unedited Ulysses Cut on blu-ray (I think the Universal release has an extended "edited for TV" version, but it's not the full Ulysses cut). Also, does the Universal version include the feature-length making-of/retrospective documentary in the special features? If not, that's another huge incentive to get the Arrow version... it's one of the better film documentaries I've seen.
@@TheOriginalFuzz Looking at the case, it looks like it doesn't have any bonus. Just a bare-bones edition. That would be only incentive for me as I've heard a lot of mixed thoughts regarding the extended and Ulysses cut. I would like to compare the transfer from Arrow with the Universal one.
@@screamingeekmedia Well I believe the transfer on the Arrow version is the same as the Universal. I think Universal provided it to Arrow (as per their licensing agreement. I think Universal does that a lot... just has the boutiques use their finished restorations). But the special features are killer. And I do like the Ulysses cut the best (I think it's almost 40 minutes longer -- it's like 3-hours long)... with the exception of maybe one scene near the end of it. And even the blu-ray looks damn good for a blu-ray.
I thought it was a decent movie and 4K disc. Solid transfer. I don't think I ever saw Piranha on blu ray, so I can't really compare. But I was happy with how the 4K disc turned out. I'm planning on watching that one again soon for my upcoming #31DaysOfHorror challenge. Thanks for watching!
Fuzz i own the re issue of lord of the rings on 4k, this set is on steelbook, and is getting rarer, and has both versions which is great, tons of extras .
Yeah I was just watching Ken's video on that (MidLevelMedia). That set looks awesome... and I don't already own any of the titles (at least, not the four that were revealed). So I'm gonna be very tempted to pick that one up. I'll have to see how steep the price is once the pre-order goes live. I do love the idea that Paramount is starting their own horror line. Could be pretty cool. Sounds to me like Paramount wants in on the boutique market.
Yeah I like Doctor Sleep too, not really a fan of the Original. Got Robocop on the way, had to import it to Australia along with - Edge of Tomorrow, Jaws 2, It Follows, Indy dial of destiny, and The bad guys - all 4K. Can’t buy any of them in Australia smh Oh looking at your T-shirt, I’m thinking how cool Arnie was as a Bad Guy(well cyborg), probably should have stayed a Bad Terminator.
It's been many years since I've seen the David Lynch film. So long that I don't even fully remember everything from it. I think I remember enjoying it somewhat, but I liked the new Villeneuve version quite a bit more. I'm not sure that I'm really the biggest fan of Lynch's style in general, but I would have to go back and rewatch his Dune to be sure. I hear Arrow put out a great 4K edition.
Are any of the independents planning on putting out a 4k release of RED PLANET- VAL KILMER PUBLIC ENEMIES- JOHNNY DEPP WATERBOY- ADAM SANDLER FROM PARIS WITH LOVE- TRAVOLTA SANCTUM- JAMES CAMERON
Not that I have heard about. Sometimes we'll hear rumblings in advance that boutique studios may be working on certain titles (especially from Kino), but I've not heard anything about those specific titles. I think I kind of assumed that we probably wouldn't get Red Planet on 4K, just due to the primitive CGI. So I ended up buying a blu ray of Red Planet just earlier this year.
Another great list, a few of them I own so can agree with your choices. There's some that I don't own but would really like to but until then the Blu Ray will have to suffice. Man you gotta stop making these videos, my bank account is taking a beating and l'm taking a beating from the wife! 😂
Surprised to see Dawn of the Dead on this list. I love the film and own the BluRay so imported the 4K from the US and was very disappointed with it. A soft, dark and grainy presentation. No noticeable difference to the standard BluRay. Genuinely confused why you rate it so highly
I'm not sure what to say here man. The film looks awesome on 4K to me, and I'm far from alone in that view (see links below). It was not soft and dark when I watched my 4K copy... and as for grain, well it was shot on 35 mm, so there is going to be some natural grain (which will be more noticeable on 4K due to the higher resolution... you see more of the film's natural grain structure). But it's certainly not heavy grain -- especially not with the quality of film stock they were using by the time this film was made. Here are two other reviews that also give this release high praise... 1. MidLevelMedia: ruclips.net/video/9X5aOR847d0/видео.html 2. In Search of Physical Media (this one even has screen shot comparisons between the blu-ray and 4K, and you can clearly see the difference): ruclips.net/video/hTJCXMEkFjI/видео.html
@@TheOriginalFuzz I appreciate your thoughtful reply. Makes me wonder if there’s different versions of the film on 4K. Like the Sony / Studio Canal situation with The Fifth Element. To be fair the disc I got had to be returned as it was defective. Wouldn’t play past a certain point. I don’t know. I was definitely disappointed with what I seen. Happy to be proven wrong and give it another chance
I think Blade Runner 2049 could’ve been better if they had done two things. Once they saw the full cgi Sean Young wasn’t looking great they should’ve cut the effect. And two if they had not done all that pointless set up for an unconfirmed sequel. It should’ve been more of a standalone film. Also the villain could’ve been stronger. That’s just my two cents. The film is still good though. But in my opinion not better than the first.
IMO, wouldn't the artificial feel to the CGI Rachael fit in well in some sense with her not being the same to Deckard and not being a perfect replica? Just a thought
@@alexmueller828 I don’t think uncanny valley qualifies. She didn’t look real within the frame. Like she didn’t belong there.not just artificial. It was poor cg work in my opinion.
@@DentalBeaker That's fair. Honestly I watched it for the first time last month and didn't think it was that bad. Sure, I noticed something was a bit off, but it didn't distract me. If somebody asked me what I thought were the worst CGI moments of all time it wouldn't even come to mind.
@@alexmueller828 well I didn’t say THAT. But it did bug me. Now when I think back on that film it’s kinda all I think about. Wet looking uncanny valley Sean Young and Jared leto’s lame villain. When I actually start to watch the film though there are so many great moments. I just wanted it to be better. It almost was. Lose the crappy sequel set up and Sean young, improve Leto’s villain and it might’ve even rivalled the original. As it stands now it’s a highly flawed masterpiece. That being said, as a huge blade runner fan, it could’ve been so much worse. I feel real bad for the Star Wars fans right now…
I love my 4k collection but I'm afraid 4k will not flourish much anymore.4k Digital streaming is good enough for most people. I will collect a few classics and blockbusters but I won't invest too much money into it anymore
Thanks for watching and weighing in! I disagree somewhat (respectfully, of course)... I don't think the format is going anywhere. 4K is still growing and flourishing right now. If you have the time at some point and are interested, check out this video I did a couple months ago... It's a deep dive on the state of physical media (with emphasis on 4K), where I'm offering a little different argument/perspective: ruclips.net/video/OnYskRXKKf4/видео.html&t
I believe digital streaming only allows x no of people to access the movie at anytime- I have tried to access a title and it tells me this title not available at this time- which leads me to believe that too many people tried to download it at the same time - Also you are out of luck if the internet service glitches - IF you already have the movies you like on blu ray THere is no need to upgrade unless the 4k transfer is a visible difference- Otherwise only Get 4k for movies tha5 are your favorites
yep...digital streaming is so convenient and movies and shows look great on my 75" Samsung TV but I definitely want to collect some of my ALL time favourites! (Waiting for Aliens/The Abyss/True Lies!!)...Blurays are fine-some of the early ones are not the best but unless a new and improved 4k comes out I will not repurchase it. There are other priorities in life these days. I have enjoyed collecting from 8Track, cassettes, vinyl. cds to VHS, laserdiscs blurays and 4k...done it...enough money spent but I enjoy revisiting a few movies for sure...Titanic...we are going down before the year is over! i love horror but i spit on your grave is an awefull movie everything about it is awefull - id rather watch human centepede again then watch that trash
I don't have an Atmos setup, so I don't feel like I have the equipment to properly evaluate the audio. Plus, audio just isn't as big a factor for me personally when it comes to watching movies. Much of the time, I'm watching movies late at night using headphones after the family is asleep. So I don't even get to use my 5.1 system as much as I'd like. I figured there are plenty of other RUclipsrs out there who provide detailed, in-depth reviews of this stuff (better than I can). The goal here was to just offer a quick takeaway in the context of the list. Thanks for watching.
Aside from the better quality of Blu-ray, I love the ritual of playing physical media. Great video!
the original Bladerunner movie was the first 4K purchase for me and it looks and sounds fantastic
Never thought I’d see someone recommend water world
I get it... the film isn't exactly a masterpiece or anything. But the Arrow 4K LE box is an amazing release. The 4K disc looks fantastic. And the feature-length retrospective/making of documentary and 3-hour Ulysses Cut included on blu-ray are almost worth the price of admission alone.
John Flickinger would!
I actually enjoyed the film, but I know it got slated. The waterworld show at Universal Studios is brilliant, I always go when I visit.
I hope 4K physical releases keep flowing. The prices have gone up and it is really out of hand for new releases.
Now what’s gone out of hand are all the super-special-limited editions, and steelbooks.
Wait for deals.
Thanks for the very informative review, great to find a new channel ❤
Thanks for watching!
All great picks Fuzz! Glad you brought up "From Beyond!" It's one of the best of the year!
Thank you
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that!
Just bought a 4K OLED TV so you’ve joined my algorithm- and I’m glad!
Enjoying all the recommendation videos!
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching! Really appreciate it.🙂
One thing to note with The Martian, there are 2 releases in the US a theatrical only release and the extended cut that was shown.
I enjoy the 3d Blu-ray release
Tremors and Tremors II need a honorable mention.
Great video with some really great movies, keep up the good work!👌
Thanks so much for watching!
Good stuff, Fuzz! A few favorites on here plus some stuff for me to check out. Keep up the good work!
Awesome! Glad to hear it. Thanks for watching!
Revenant is amazing also John wick films ,Aliens mission impossible rogue nation and Fallout both brilliant sound and picture.
Great work! If I could have found links to the discs in the show notes Amazon would have made bank. 😂
Nice backdrop, cool T shirt! Subscribed ✊
Some nice picks there but you forgot The Equalizer. Absolutely reference quality.
We were born the same year! Very cool! Thanks man... really appreciate your continued support and viewings.
Thank you my friend.
Thank you for watching as always! Really appreciate it.
Thanks, just starting my 4k collection with Aliens, The Abyss and The Thing. Where do you buy your t-shirts? They look great
Thank you, and thanks for watching!
I have both Pulp fiction and Reservoir Dogs on 4K but still haven't got around to watching them
Fingers crossed for the rest of the Quentin Tarantino movies to get 4K releases (Yes I know once apon a time in hollywood and Inglourios Basterds have 4K releases because I also own them)
I watched part 1, now watching part 2, so far only "Alita," "Top gun Maverick," and "The final countdown," are movies in my collection.
I think the extended version of Doctor Sleep is only on Blu-ray?
The extended version is included in 4K when you redeem the digital code that comes with the 4K disc. But it's also included on a blu ray disc with the 4K release. So you can either watch the 1080p blu ray or stream it in 4K. Not an ideal choice. But I suppose it's marginally better than no 4K of the extended version at all lol.
Thanks for giving WaterWorld some love. For those who cant get the Arrow version the other 4k by Universal is solid and personally i think looks better but doesn't include the Ulysses cut
Wouldnt mind you making a video on 4k bluray players that youd recommend. Maybe at different price points and feature sets to watch these on.
I have never seen Tenebrea. I may have to pick it up. I have heard many good things about it
Yeah it's a really good one.
@@TheOriginalFuzz I pre ordered the version that you linked in your comment. I'm pretty excited to check it out
@@Thundarr030 Oh right on! I think you'll really enjoy it. Plus it's got a killer feature-length retrospective documentary called "Yellow Fever: The Rise and Fall of Giallo" that is a very good Argento-centric documentary. Probably the best documentary I've seen included with an Argento 4k release.
how about The Revenant by Alejandro G. Iñárritu?
I've never seen it, but I've heard really good things about the 4K release.
Ah, Blade Runner 2049 👍
Now we need a 4k release for Terminator (1) and Tron Legacy. The 4k remasters matte finish found on RUclips are amazing!!!
2nd. list no mention of audio quality, its a big part of My enjoyment. some of these disks have great audio.
I don't really focus on audio much. I don't have a Dolby Atmos setup (only 5.1 surround... no height channels), so I don't feel I can properly evaluate object-based surround sound mixes. So I just largely stay away from audio commentary altogether.
@@TheOriginalFuzz Oh, ok I have a small system 5.2.2, You do have a lot of movies I own on the lists anyway. keep the videos coming
What TV are you watching this on? What player are you using as well? Congrats and good luck on the channel!!!
Although only blu ray, the Star Wars complete saga looks incredible. It has Darth Vader on the cover.
I need to pick up Waterworld from Arrow. I have the Universal edition.
What were your thoughts on piranha from scream factory? I personally enjoyed yhat more than jaws
Alita has both dolby vision and HDR10+
Fuzz i own the re issue of lord of the rings on 4k, this set is on steelbook, and is getting rarer, and has both versions which is great, tons of extras .
paramount coming out with a new 4k horror box set volume 1 with exclusive slipcovers ..
Can’t buy any of them in Australia smh
Oh looking at your T-shirt, I’m thinking how cool Arnie was as a Bad Guy(well cyborg), probably should have stayed a Bad Terminator.
What do you think of the original DUNE compared to the new version ?
It's been many years since I've seen the David Lynch film. So long that I don't even fully remember everything from it. I think I remember enjoying it somewhat, but I liked the new Villeneuve version quite a bit more. I'm not sure that I'm really the biggest fan of Lynch's style in general, but I would have to go back and rewatch his Dune to be sure. I hear Arrow put out a great 4K edition.
@@TheOriginalFuzz I feel the new version is a little too polished, but I still like it. Looking forward to part two.
Have seen both movies and both had trouble keeping me interested. The newer one looks and sounds fantastic though.
Are any of the independents planning on putting out a 4k release of
RED PLANET- VAL KILMER
PUBLIC ENEMIES- JOHNNY DEPP
WATERBOY- ADAM SANDLER
FROM PARIS WITH LOVE- TRAVOLTA
SANCTUM- JAMES CAMERON
LMAO! Yep, that's how it goes sometimes... both bank accounts and collectors taking multiple beatings lol. Thanks man!
Blade Runner 2049 not even close to the original as a movie but great job from Montreal Director Villeneuve
1. MidLevelMedia: ruclips.net/video/9X5aOR847d0/видео.html
I think you make some very good points, and I don't disagree. Thanks for watching!
Agreed, I will personally try and be more selective on what I pick up on 4k going forward. Classics and movies I love
I believe digital streaming only allows x no of people to access the movie at anytime-
I have tried to access a title and it tells me this title not available at this time- which leads me to believe that too many people tried to download it at the same time - Also you are out of luck if the internet service glitches - IF you already have the movies you like on blu ray
THere is no need to upgrade unless the 4k transfer is a visible difference- Otherwise only
Get 4k for movies tha5 are your favorites
yep...digital streaming is so convenient and movies and shows look great on my 75" Samsung TV but I definitely want to collect some of my ALL time favourites! LOL

Can you please create a list that only includes reference 4k discs?
I already did... that's what this video was a sequel to. Here's the first video I did... ruclips.net/video/EYE96LD6uBA/видео.html
@@TheOriginalFuzz Since there are so many, would it be fun to create a top 50 reference disc list?
i love horror but i spit on your grave is an awefull movie everything about it is awefull - id rather watch human centepede again then watch that trash
Why no mention of sound quality?
I don't have an Atmos setup, so I don't feel like I have the equipment to properly evaluate the audio. Plus, audio just isn't as big a factor for me personally when it comes to watching movies. Much of the time, I'm watching movies late at night using headphones after the family is asleep. So I don't even get to use my 5.1 system as much as I'd like. I figured there are plenty of other RUclipsrs out there who provide detailed, in-depth reviews of this stuff (better than I can). The goal here was to just offer a quick takeaway in the context of the list. Thanks for watching.
