Re: Zero is one of the most interesting isekai anime that has come out in the past few years. The story revolves around Natsuki Subaru being transported from Earth to a new world and he is granted one simple power: "Return By Death". Subaru must use this newfound power to save those he cares about, such as Emilia, Rem, Ram, Petra, Otto and Garfiel and more.
Who is Satella and why did she grant subaru this power? What is the motivation behind the witch cult which have members such as Petelguese the sin archbishop of sloth? These are some of the questions I'll tackle on this channel, I hope you enjoy it and most importantly also enjoy season 1 and season 2 of Re: zero and hopefully it does well enough to warrant a third season covering arc 5 (Season 3 re: zero).

The only real fucked up thing is that she encourages these actions and lets him spiral into madness, but she also purposely lead him towards something to cause his death anyways just because she wants to see what it’s like.

Actually she deserve it even if she did not encourage it. Let say i had a power to revive people from the death and keep their moment of death memory. So i pick this one group of people, make them do risky job, having death countless time and keep reviving them. And their souls are binding with me through the contracts. As twisted as it is, I feel like this is Echidna's way to provide "salvation" for Subaru's suffering. The thing about Echidna is that while she's not 100% good, she's not 100% evil either. As long as it provides her results, she's literally down for anything and everything.

This video's kinda misleading lol. The scene's point is this is a *deliberate* attempt by Echidna to manipulate Subaru to take control of him. This is the true beginning of Kasaneru Subaru.
Unlike the WN version, the LN makes it very clear Echidna's a monster and is manipulating him. It basically presents her as some grand evil you DON'T want to associate with.
(In addition, Echidna doesnt even feel any of the pain.)
Tappei made this to show Echidna is the manipulator/abuser, not the other way around. It's pretty much the most vital scene in terms of showing Subaru's descent.
Here are also some things Tappei has said:
-Tappei has said all the witches are rotten inside.
-He says Echidna's personality is as rotten as Capella's (dwell on *that:* Capella is meant to be the scummiest sin archbishop, with Regulus, additionally, being the least sympathetic according to him).
-Tappei joked about how seeing Echidna with a smug face makes him want to hit her.
-The way he talks about her in some Q&As is definitely not flattering with, in one, Tappei going out of his way to tell a fan to not end up like her.
So, yeah, despite what some people think, Echidna is written to be a very scummy person lol. It's really not that hidden.

I think Capella's authority is not even compatible with her. Properties of Lust say that it gave emotions to non living things. If Capella is Emerada, then I guess her compatibility malfunctioned, giving her worst emotions. Though, my suspicions are there Sphinx artificially experimented authority on her.
The Echidna is the embodiment of Greed's nature. The current nature is Evil Greed. In simple words, the greed that destroys everything. The good greed Echidna was a greed where she wanted to have everything with no sacrifices and led to a happy life. But if this holds true, then we must know the reason of countries being destroyed by her.
It can be that Good Echidna already knew that she was turning evil, and Volcanica realised this.

@Flarei mon In the movie, Emilia used her Aoe freeze to destroy the weaker black serpent. Lye's fighting style is like assassin and has a vibe of Gyutaro's fighting style, which is physical and can't work on serpent.
Reinhardt can destroy Serpent, given that
1) 100% win if Reid Sword works.
2) 100% win if Sword Play of Astrea is able to destroy the serpent (most likely it will because it worked on killing Puck and Puck should be stronger than serpent.)
3) Might win if he has a large aoe divine protection.

I think this connects with subaru's self harming tendencies, as an act of getting physically violent when pent up with severe stress, just that he usually tends to direct that hatred and frustration towards himself, bc no one would ever "allow him" to harm them willingly, except in this case

Subaru kind of has an excuse. He has died countless times in horrible ways that we can’t even begin to imagine he has watched the people he loves die time and time again and he remembers all of it. Every sensation. Every corpse. All the lifeless eyes. All of HIS own failures. And it is truly his eternal livening hell. He sees it all feels it all hears smells tastes it all and for what…? What purpose does it all have? A “perfect life” where he is traumatized forever and goes through something worse then hell it’s self just to go through it again? We would all lose our sanity’s long before that. The fact that Subaru lasted that long is an astounding feat that almost no one else could do. He has violent days because it is most likely right after a terrible reset or he has good days after a peaceful reset but no matter what he dies time and time again. For a life that is perfect… and a life that he never wanted…

Don't let Echidna's beat up face fools you into sympathizing with her. Remember she doesn't feel pain and is immune to humiliation, so the whole "sacrificing oneself for the other" theme that happened in that scene is moot.
She even admitted that she is able to *ACT* in certain ways that can please Subaru (Screaming in pain when beaten, etc) all in the name of knowledge ofcourse.

in my opinion, I don't think it matters if the person is male or female. what matters is if he has gone past his breaking point to a place where it's easy to ignite his triggers.
Subaru cannot handle emotional/psychological pain or trauma. if he can't deal with the trauma he will hurt himself repeatedly because physical pain feels better than emotional pain for him. however, if someone tramples on his emotional triggers (things said or actions carried out that provoke his fight or flight response) it will make him lash out aggressively and sometimes violently.
you see this a lot on mental illness circles. violent aggression is a typical response when someone can't handle their emotional state. Arc 6 gives us clear examples of this.
assuming Rem is a trigger for Subaru, anyone who doubts he's loyalty or commitment towards her will immediately trigger an aggravated response from him. When Subaru, Ram, and Anastasia were trapped in the ungrounded tunnels, Ram began berating Subaru by saying he didn't care about Emilia or the others. What pushed him over the edge was her saying that he didn't really care about Rem either. though the witches miasma exasperated the situation, things really took a violent turn with Subaru first. he lashed out and targeted Ram as the object of his emotional trauma (the trauma in this case is his inability to save Rem) and wanted her to physically feel what he felt emotionally. this led to him trying to kill her.
later, when Subaru had amnesia and was stuck in a death loop, in order to avoid the psychological trauma of not knowing who was trying to kill him, he attempted to flee the watch tower. When that was no longer an option, he decided to kill everyone in the tower to end the cycle of death because he couldn't figure out who kept killing him.
lastly, when he finally realized who was behind his death loop, he blacked out and killed her for all the emotional damage she'd put him through over and over again.
I think that if Subaru cannot internalize his emotional and psychological trauma by hurting himself, he will hurt the person he believes to be the cause of it all.
we even get a glimpse of this in season one when Subaru fought with Julius. the physical pain that Julius inflicted on Subaru was nothing compared to how emotionally damaged he was and thus he couldn't concede the fight until he'd inflicted some type of physical damage to Julius.
I don't think it matters if the person is a woman or not, Subaru has deeply ingrained emotional trauma and will hurt himself or others in order to illeviate the pain.

to be precise, subaru is beyond broken and no one of his actions here are justified in the slightest. echidna did deserve punishment, sure, but death is too much. i think that imprisonement withouth her friends in a place where she cant get knowlegde would be the ideal.

@@doublehit9165 at this point of the story, echidna is proven to be a detestable being and really deserve to die or be killed, her pure curiosity(and greed ofc) of knowing all possible outcomes has led the subaru to death thousands if not millions of times. From her own point of view she is just satisfying her innocent curiosity of pure knowledge, right? Wrong, she knowingly leads him to dangerous situations whether is kills him or not. From the very beginning she only cared for the thing called 'return by death' and didn't care for the person called 'subaru'. She is not human anymore but it doesn't mean she is exempted to do inhumane acts especially if she wants to mingle with the humanoid/mortal society.
In terms of a combination padlock she is bruteforcing the problem rather than solving it efficiently, this won't kill subaru in its truest meaning but it definitely kills his psyche and/or humanity to the point that he basically became a heartless monster.
In a real-world scenario she has done something that is akin(or much worse) to what mad scientists would do to their experiments. Yes they can be imprisoned but these types of people are relentless to their goals and locking them up is nothing for them. They could manipulate others and bring themselves to freedom if they are given the chance.
It is easy to form opinions but hard to form solutions, if truly are against killing then you also have the responsibility to do your best and formulate an ideal method for your 'ideal solution'. I'm sorry, not even the trials of sanctuary kept Echidna in check so how you suggest to imprison her?

It is out of context. I think i know pandora authority... it could be mind manipulation, a mix of aizen from bleach and memory control with touch as prerequirement. It would explain how she can bend reality without being stronger than reinhard. Is she knows how sword saint divine protection works, she could have misslead theresia into a bad move getting her killed. There also is a hint in the anime when regulus acts out of character with her and when an attack twists his neck where it should not be able to.

Subaru would've lashed out at anyone, be it either a man or a woman, if he was manipulated like that so i believe he isn't the one to be blamed here.
