The best theory I've come up with is that the Authority of Envy is inherently time magic and this is what gives Subaru RBD. What would be the ultimate form of envy? Being able to look at different timelines and see different versions of yourself all happy and prosperous, while you yourself suffer. My personal theory is that Satella IS Emilia, or rather many Emilias. If the Authority of Envy gives you time magic, maybe it allows you to exist at many points in time and even in multiple timelines. Satella is believed to come from Stella meaning "star." It's a fairly generic name in a series that takes a lot of names from actual constellations. Then again, if Satella was not a single individual but a composite of many from different timelines and different points in history, that name would make a lot more sense. I think that in at least one timeline, Emilia did open the door in Elinor forest and acquired the Witch Factor of Envy. Then she renames herself in tribute of no longer being purely an individual but a composite of endless Emilias from endless timelines. She meets Subaru and as she is dying, she passes him her Witch Factor, the authority of Envy, giving him RBD before completely joining the composite Satella with all the other dead Emilias. This means that Satella is a fusion of many Emilias who collectively know all of the suffering and effort Subaru has gone through for their benefit. The Witch does kill or possess Emilia at times, but that was the Witch not Satella and the Witch may not really care about any specific Emilia very much. If Satella exists at multiple points in time then it's easy for her to go back 400 years and do something with the witches, however notably most of the witches have no ill will toward Satella. This makes me wonder if Satella was really part of the witch when they were all devoured. Just a theory.
In the Anime Emilia clamed her name (Something that is really important in actual magic, marking the magician to all the higher entities that they commune and summon), maybe this is the point that opened a gate to the witch. She basically stole the name and had all the same characteristics (regarding her half blood and her look). Since she sees time like a 4th dimensional being, that being totally linearly and all at once, all she had to do is make the trigger for herself to be released (that being the idiot). She gave him all the tools to lead Emilia to the version of the timeline where she can occupy Emilia's body and since he already has her power (residue of her soul if you will) she is already present in this world in a sense. Since all the timelines are infinite (everything will happen 100%), she just needed to take the path where the combination of choices leads to her freedom. She gets to go free and has someone who loves her, basically the thing she wants the most...
I got a dummy good theory here so just in case I got it right then gg if I'm wrong then damn. When I remembered how Subaru said "I will save you" to Satella/Emilia in their first face-to-face encounter and especially when 414 mentioned this part [6:42] it got me thinking about something. (and obviously, I could very well be wrong and maybe Subaru was saying that to Emilia and not to Satella). My theory is that Subaru existed in that world (the world where Subaru is currently at) a long time ago in the past (400 years ago) alongside Satella. but when he died he lost his memories and was reborn in another world (where Subaru lived in before the events of S 1 EP 1). And since Satella has time and possibly even space manipulation powers she could also have the ability to travel to different universes which was how she found and brought Subaru to the world where he is currently. Yes, I know this might be way off from the truth but remember again at around [6:42]. Idk if I forgot but I don't remember Subaru showing Emilia the outside world or him ever kissing her (until the "taste of death" episode). So if we were to follow the facts that 414 says then either we all interpreted what he said wrong or it could very well mean that Satella and Subaru knew each other in the past (400 years in the past).
It depends on your definition of outside world but Subaru does show her the world outside of that village and city and (Spoilers) They do kiss besides the "kiss of death"
spoiler: the web novel mentioned subaru to be a sage candidate and the sage who sealed satella (with dragon volcania and sword saint reid) also has similar witch miasma surronding his body, it was also stated that volcania hesitated before sealing satella leading to a wound on his chest, this could mean they were friends, but that sage's name is flugel and was never given the credit of sealing satella ( he gave it to his servant shaula) and then disappeared for 400 years. In conclusion u could be right but i kind of dont see subaru becoming flugel, in the web novel subaru actually hates flugel and thinks of him as a bad person. I believe that satella's connection with emelia is blood relative, not counterpart.
Something you may have missed: the witch of envy is way more powerful than the more reasonable Satella personality, which is why Echidna was on guard when she showed at the tea party. She wasn't sure who it was; satella, or the witch. That said, if satella and Reinhardt would end in a draw.. does that mean the witch of envy would beat Reinhardt?

Yeahhh that whole "he showed me light, held my hand..." aspect..that..kinda sounds like Emilia down to the letter doesn't it? Especially after Pug left we can tell from the latest episode that she had no one for backup. She was pained and so deeply scared that the only thing she could think about was Subaru..kinda like how Satella seems when she is in her..other self?...or whatever. I am not saying this at all confirms the whole time travel theory but it sure as hell helps it become even more believeable.
Also in Bond of Ice, Merakuela had confirmed that Emilia had the same blood as Satella AND he said the very existence of emilia would be dangerous for the world. Perhaps he predicted Emilia becoming Satella somehow, but didn't actually know how Emilia existence would affect the world.
Satella is envious of emilia and so she was copying her with subaru hoping that in that way he will like her (before he told her he hates her so she changed approach)

The conversation Satella has with Subaru in LN 13 unequivocally show that she really *does* care about/love Subaru. 3. Her conversation also hints that she met Subaru.... 400 yrs ago. Well, it does explain a few things. 4. Kurumi is bae. Simp away! 5. And yeah. It took the Dragon, the Sword Saint, and the Sage to try and kill her... but fail, *EPICALLY.* 6. And yes, her choice of words was a red flag a la Violet Evergarden deep, but creepier.... and murderous. Plus, I think Ep. 34 was less Satella, and more the Witch of Envy. The 2 appearances are so starkly contrasting between the 'I Love You' loop and the 3rd Tea Party that it really does hammer in that they're not the same. Satella's apoearance was outright 'merk' and grnuinely caring. And Subaru's rejection of her had less to do with her, and more to do with hinself and his confusion on why she made him feel the way he did about her. And I'm pretty sure that she has no charm powers.... or at the very least, isn't using them on Subaru. That said, Subaru himself is weirdly good at charming ppl.

That's a very, *VERY* telling statement that she is more than aware of just what kind of person Subaru is deep down at that time. She also didn't seem to mind that he'd use his power to save everyone. She showed genuine concern and worry for him on levels equal to Rem.
Tin Foil Hat theory: And possible spoilers The reason Satella couldn't be killed was because she has the Return by Death ability herself. Hence, the first Sword Saint Reid, the Dragon Volcanica, and the Sage -Shaula- Flugel (who could also be Subaru in my theory) wasn't able to kill her, but seal her instead (thus Satella was unable to die and reset the timeline). As for Subaru and Satella, they could have been lovers 400 years before. However Subaru was killed, causing Satella to absorb the witch genes to rewrite the past. And like Subaru, she probably used RTB repeatedly to save Subaru in the same way Subaru uses it to save Emilia. When Subaru met Satella for the first time, she confessed her love to him and her reasons for that love. However, Subaru couldn't recall ever treating her in such way, because the Subaru who cared deeply for her and loved her was the Subaru from one of the deleted timeline. The situation was exactly like Subaru and Emilia. When Subaru told Emilia he love her because she saved her before, she couldn't recall ever saving him because it happened in a deleted timeline. The counter to this is that I couldn't concile it with the Flugel = Subaru theory, which has plenty more evidence. Or I'm just too lazy to think... haa... huu...
There is one important thing to mention (I know this is in anime but have not gone through the manga...). Emilia clamed the name of the witch of envy in one of the first episode. The reason this is interesting to me is because of the real world practice in ceremonial magic. When deciding to work with magic, the Magician proclaims themselves as a magician and chooses a name to use. It can be considered a type of rebirth. Names hold the special meaning in magic. That being said, the witch has time powers, meaning she has the perception of time like a 4th dimensional being. Higher dimensional beings live in a non physical reality (astral plains or higher vibration dimensions) and since time only effects the physical reality (3rd and lower), anything outside of these sees time as a linear path. As an example, we see something in the second dimension like a book the same way. Yes, you can start reading from the start but there are no restrains and you can just jump to the end and see how everything ends... That being said, 4th dimensional beings actually have a total sum of information contained in all the "pages" so they actually see the totality of existence (whilst we miss information if skipping pages since we live in a 3rd dimension). Since the show proves that multiverse exists, there is 100% chance that every possible thing will happen. The fool is not actually resetting time, he is most likely jumping realities (since space-time is connected in the 3rd dimension). The reason I think this is the case is because he is actually the key to the cage. He is the only one who knows Emilia took the name in the first place, since he is the only one who was in both this and the current reality. So, the witch is moving him to the reality where she escapes, and she is already free in the sense (not limited by time, 100000 years are an instant, basically nothing when time does not affect you...), he is the one carrying a part of her (the power). Now all she needs is for him to bring her to the vessel (Emilia) or to make a child with her (her half blood and appearance and a piece of her power that the idiot carries...). That being said, maybe she is actually trapped in a non physical sense and Emilia is just her body, reincarnating, not being able to die from two perspectives (If she dies the world ends so things always get reset because of the idiot or she dies and the same body gets reincarnated holding the same fragment of witches personality-Emilia). Once the time is right, her body and her spirit (that is already in the idiot partially) combine into the whole (or they bang, making her whole in that sense, this is where the story most likely goes in my opinion). Oh, the name thing, like I said, the witch sees the totality of time, to her it does not matter if Emilia who claimed the name is dead, every Emilia is the same Emilia, one person split into multiple realities so the true Emilia is the totality of her choices, even if one out of infinites claims the name, they all did from the witches perspective...
Usually, in an anime, the biggest giveaway of a character's identity is the voice actor who voices them. Just like in the anime 'Date a Live', Reine Murasame's VA is the same as the mysterious Phantom, and it turned out that they are really the same character. Likewise, since Satella's VA is also Rie Takahashi, then there is a high chance that she is Emilia. But some people might ask, "Then why did Satella kill Emilia when Subaru tried to reveal 'Return By Death' to her?" I would make the comparison with another anime, 'Future Diary'. In that anime, Gasai Yuno killed her 2nd world counterpart in order to take her place and be with Yuki. Satella probably doesn't mind killing her counterpart to be with Subaru, especially since she is the Witch of Envy.
actually I think it is a bit too far fetched to say that they are the same character, they are usually compared, associated and considered to be identical, so it makes sense that they would have similar voices, and thus the same voice actress. It is possible that they have a more personal connection, but to say that they are the same despite their differences in history and ability is a bit far fetched.

What if satella is a future version of emilia? Hear me out. Due to her having some amount of control over time AKA return by death. We know satella has some manipulation of time. Its not that far fetched to say that Emilia falls in love with Subaru in the future. This being the case. Maybe something happens to subaru, and given the state of obsession Emilia was in, in the previous episode, its also not to far fetched to say that Emilia could fall to her grief or loss of subaru entirely, after all, she's the witch of envy, maybe subaru goes home and she returns to the past to regain what she lost and try to change it, similar to the use of return by death by subaru.

If there was a situation where Emilia has to save Subaru, and if one of the solutions was to change her name to Satella, it doesn't sound like a good plot to advance the story. MAYBE they met in the future, because she rampaged or something like that. I'm still on the bandwagon that the reason why Satella looks like Emilia is that because she IS Emilia. If Emilia is forced to used the Witch Factor of Envy vs Pandora (as the two are stated to clash with Emilia coming out as the victor by the author) and Pandora is able to use her powers to influence Emilia's memory to some degree to make her think her name is Satella a lot of things start to make sense. When the witch factor isn't in control Satella's personality is a lot like Emilia's (presumably). Emilia also has a big history with Subaru and is quite in love with him even if she can't properly express herself at times about it. This could be a big factor why Satella is claiming to have such a big history with Subaru as he brought her out of her shell. Lastly The Witch of Envy can control time so it's feasible to think she could warp herself back into the past say idk 400+ years and events can still play out as normal. Besides Emilia did say her name was Satella at first (epic foreshadowing on the level of Attack on Titan?). Sure it's just a theory but I believe there is solid evidence to make a case that they are the same person (or in this case Half-Elf). I also don't believe Satella is Emilia's mother or a direct decendant of Satella as her mother is most likely Minerva.

I'm so late to this video, but regarding your last fact, what if Satella is saying Aishiteru because she was in fact there in certain situations instead of Emilia? Like when Subaru first meets Emilia, what if that wasn't her after all, but that was Satella instead? Or anytime they were alone together, like without puck, what if puck doesn't come to them because Emilia isn't actually Emilia? And to add to that, Satella quotes Subaru was "giving her light, showing her the outside world, holding her hand when she was lonely, and kissing her when she was all alone". She never specifies when this happened.
Theory on how specifically Satella became the Witch of Envy: We all know that Subaru has history with Satella and the events of 400 years ago but the only people that know are Satella, Volcanica and The Sage: Flugel. But theres also Al too but no one knows what the hell is with, perhaps she sent him into the future to make sure Subaru keeps his task to kill Satella which is why she gave him something similar to Return by Death. Well the few things we know about Satella is that before she absorbed the Witch of Envy factors which she had zero compatibility with, which causes a second personality inside of her, and both of them are always fighting to gain control. AND Volcanica said to Emilia when he thought he was Satella that is he hadnt “faltered” that day then Satella wouldn’t have become the Witch of Envy, which made me think: *Who was the real target/originator of the Witch of Envy factor?* A possible scenario where: Satella and Subaru were with Volcanica that day then Subaru began to feel true envy that of Satella and Volcanica relationship and of Volcanica’s: power, fame, closeness with Satella which caused him to begin the Envy factors but Satella ended up absorbing them to prevent Subaru to become the Warlock of Envy, because she loved him so much that she didnt want him to be targeted by this tragic fate and decided to save him from it. Which means that if Volcanica hadn’t “faltered” that day then Satella would have been freed from the fate of being the Witch of Envy but not Subaru as he would become the Warlock of Envy. Which could mean that it could similar, to take a persons powers, their name, everything without causing the person to not be into a coma(sorry Rem) and remember everything (sorry again Rem), but they’re unable to say their themselves due to people seeing the Envy as the one they stole from. This can explain how Subaru is able to obtain the other Witch Factors from the people he has killed. But Satella must have altered his Authority that she gave him to make sure he only takes from the dead by his own hands. But Satella’s authority is completely different: its unknown what her authority is. The main reason why Satella/Witch of Envy says “I love you” so many times could be because she felt so much love for Subaru in order to save him but since love was the emotion that she felt but at the same time the Witch of Envy was born and that was the only emotion she felt so thats why she says it so many times.

I kind of get the felling that Emilia is a vessel for the witch of envy, her true connection to the world and a way for her to get unlocked. That is why she chose the idiot, the one who holds obsessive love for "her" since that is the thing that she wants the most...
So here’s my theory after seeing Pandora’s power to alter reality and rewrite history in the recent episode, I believe that satella is actually Emilia from the future, because she basically looks exactly like an adult Emilia, and everything from the kiss Subaru and Emilia shared during the second half of season two makes it pretty similar to what satella experienced with him.
I think besides the word she uses to say I love you, what she tells Subaru is super mysterious and interesting as well. About why she loves him. And what he’s done for her. According to the story, she’s been sealed since 400 years before Subaru arrived. She’s also the one who brought him to the rezero world. So how is any of that possible? How does she know Subaru so intimately and he doesn’t? On the one hand, it reminds me of how Subaru will experience moments with Emilia that deepen his love for her, but after he resets, she has no idea what he’s talking about and his feelings may seem rather creepy instead of loving. Another thing that is similar is what happens to Subaru in arc 6. I won’t spoil anything for anime only people. But if we look at how Subaru reacts to a certain situation there. We can see parallels between his initial experience in the world. Could Subaru have experienced a similar situation before the start of the series? And we just don’t know because we didn’t see that part? Or is it something else entirely? Super super interesting.

I think I found out the meaning behind Satella's name. She's named after satellite (a celestial body orbiting a planet). In the Mimagau IF story the male version of Satella is named Luna. Which is latin for moon and the moon is earth's only satellite.

NOT A SPOILER BUT CUT CONTENT: . . . . . . . She took the trial over and over, mistook her dependence on Subaru as love, and she was also unstable because of Puck's absence. All these added together to make her go insane. The Web Novel had already revealed that fact by this point in the story.
(SPOILER) In Arc 6, it was mentioned how the other witches died, and there isn't a slight connection to how they died. I don't know about Echidna's case yet.

Wait a minute. If Satella is sealed within a shrine at the Sand Dunes, then how did she appear at the Witch's Tea Party? The way I understand it, Echidna collected each witch's soul and placed them in the Tea Party Dimension at Sanctuary. Doesn't the body need to be dead in order for the soul to be collected? Is it just the body of Satella that was sealed in the shrine and her soul was somehow taken by Echidna while Satella was still alive? How does Satella's appearance in the Tea Party Dimension during the events at Sanctuary make any sense? If the Tea Party Dimension contains all of the witches since their souls are inside there, how did Satella end up there? It does not make any sense!!

Honestly when she first appeared I thought she was Emilia. Like when we saw her after Subaru kills himself with the handkerchief, I thought she was Emilia. Especially because later on Emilia seems to go crazy and was obsessed with Subaru. I’d assumed that satella in that initial appearance was just Emilia even more far gone. It wasn’t until she appeared at the witches tea party that I realized it wasn’t Emilia. Even than because of her words I thought maybe she was like future Emilia. Like Emilia gets sent back in time and becomes the witch of envy or something. But it all seems much deeper than that. So my theory is like this. ..think hulk and Bruce banner completely different entity's ..accept satella found away to separate into different bodies. Satella and emilla Yes they are the same but at the same time are not same...and you can't say no because of time issues cause time powers...
What if Satella is Emilia from the future? Please read the entire post for it all to make sense. [Spoilers in Post] Imagine the following: Emilia continues the current timeline, encountering a scenario similar to Geuse and Pandora, using a Witch Factor that she’s incompatible with to defeat someone-maybe Pandora. Because Geuse went insane because he was not comparable with the Witch Factor, one can infer that, when not compatible, Witch Factors interfere with one’s sanity. Although one could argue that Geuse went insane because he killed Fortuna, I’d argue that, from the moment he used the Authority of Sloth, he was destined to lose his sanity; to elaborate, he used the phrase “desu” and spoke about “love” like the Petelguese in Arc 3. He was already becoming Petelguese; Fortuna’s death made it happen quicker. Furthermore, Regulus mentioned that Geuse would suffer consequences, which I believe he meant the eventual road to insanity. Emilia could have gone insane, developing the Satella personality, after absorbing Witch Factors that she’s incompatible with. This would satisfy the strong resemblance between Satella and Emilia, and it would explain why the same voice actor for Emilia also plays Satella; they’re the same person. Furthermore, when Echidna refers to Emilia as the “witch’s daughter,” it’s not capitalized in the sub-titles. This means that she’s not referring to a particular witch, such as Satella. If “witch’s daughter” were a proper noun-referring to Satella-it would be “Witch’s daughter.” Satella, like Emilia, is a half-elf, which means that even if Emilia’s father was a 1/2 elf and her mother was a human, this explanation is still satisfactory. During the Witch’s Tea Party, Satella explains how Subaru saved her. After watching the most recent Re:Zero episodes, I can see how Subaru saved Emilia from her grief and sorrow from the past, helping her move on and forgive herself. In the novel, it goes into more detail, details that Subaru did for Emilia. This would explain why Satella, at the Witch’s Tea Party, told Subaru that he saved her, even though he didn’t remember. Additionally, for this theory to work, I think Subaru is Flugel. There are far too many similarities between the two for it to be coincide. Shaula, apprentice of Flugel, mistakes Subaru for Flugel, where’s the same color coordination as Subaru, strikes similar poses to Subaru, and says that Subaru smells like Flugel. Additionally, to complete a task in the Pleiades Watchtower, the only way to complete the task was to know a constellation that existed in Subaru’s original world: earth. I think that Subaru was summoned to the world of Re:Zero in the past and went by the name of Flugel. Flugel is said to be very wise, much like Subaru. Subaru has the knowledge of many lifetimes and experiences due to his many deaths that he eventually uses to his advantage. I believe that Subaru/Flugel had the ability to, in some capacity, manipulate time and experience different timelines, allowing him to make the best decision(s) at the time-which would make him, to others, appear as wise. I think that Subaru knew that he would have to return to his home world, but that, when he left, he would forget about the world of Re:Zero. Knowing this, he planted items that would allow him to, over time, regain his memories and help himself when he returned to the world of Re:Zero, such as Flugel’s Tree, which he used to defeat the White Whale. I also believe that the answer to the Watchtower being a constellation from his world was designed by Flugel to help jog his (Subaru’s) memory back, even if only a little. When Subaru returned back to earth, time moved normally, but, in the world of Re:Zero, I suspect time occurs much faster. 2 years on earth could, in theory, be 400 years in the world of Re: Zero. The world of Re: Zero remembers the Witch of Envy as nearly destroying the world, but I suspect Pandora may have altered the events of the past to erase her existence and blame Emilia/Satella. This leads me to my theory: Subaru/Flugel was summoned to the World of Re:Zero. He knew he would forget the events of Re:Zero when he left, so he left clues for him to figure it out and regain his memories and complete his mission (revealed at the end of this theory). He gets summoned again to the world of Re:Zero-not having his memories as Flugel-by Satella/Emilia, befriending Emilia, treating her with kindness and genuinely loving her. She, Emilia, is saved by Subaru/Flugel (shown when Subaru confesses his love for Emilia during her first trial at the Sanctuary). Subaru, after defeating many Archbishops, takes their authorities. Eventually, due to dire and unfortunate circumstances (maybe from fighting Pandora), Emilia uses a witch factor, causing her to go insane, developing the Satella personality. Before Emilia completely loses her sanity, Subaru convinces her to send him back in time 400 years ago to try and prevent Emilia from becoming Satella by using his authorities that he took from the Bishops, taking on the persona of Flugel. Flugel then gives Guese the Authority of Sloth for some purpose, but Pandora messes this up. From that point, he, already having lived and died multiple times, is very wise and repeats the fore mentioned timeline until he is finally successful at saving Emilia/Satella and the world of Re:Zero from, whom I suspect, is Pandora. --- Side Note: I think the Seal in Elior Forest, the door, is the doorway between Subaru’s world and the World of Re:Zero. Emilia, having the key to open the door, could have used it to bring Subaru to the world of Re:Zero. Pandora wants it to be opened, thus her name being a reference to “Pandora’s box,” because she wants access to his world for some reason yet to be revealed.

The best theory I've come up with is that the Authority of Envy is inherently time magic and this is what gives Subaru RBD. What would be the ultimate form of envy? Being able to look at different timelines and see different versions of yourself all happy and prosperous, while you yourself suffer. My personal theory is that Satella IS Emilia, or rather many Emilias. If the Authority of Envy gives you time magic, maybe it allows you to exist at many points in time and even in multiple timelines. Satella is believed to come from Stella meaning "star." It's a fairly generic name in a series that takes a lot of names from actual constellations. Then again, if Satella was not a single individual but a composite of many from different timelines and different points in history, that name would make a lot more sense. I think that in at least one timeline, Emilia did open the door in Elinor forest and acquired the Witch Factor of Envy. Then she renames herself in tribute of no longer being purely an individual but a composite of endless Emilias from endless timelines. She meets Subaru and as she is dying, she passes him her Witch Factor, the authority of Envy, giving him RBD before completely joining the composite Satella with all the other dead Emilias. This means that Satella is a fusion of many Emilias who collectively know all of the suffering and effort Subaru has gone through for their benefit. The Witch does kill or possess Emilia at times, but that was the Witch not Satella and the Witch may not really care about any specific Emilia very much. If Satella exists at multiple points in time then it's easy for her to go back 400 years and do something with the witches, however notably most of the witches have no ill will toward Satella. This makes me wonder if Satella was really part of the witch when they were all devoured.

In the Anime Emilia clamed her name (Something that is really important in actual magic, marking the magician to all the higher entities that they commune and summon), maybe this is the point that opened a gate to the witch. She basically stole the name and had all the same characteristics (regarding her half blood and her look). Since she sees time like a 4th dimensional being, that being totally linearly and all at once, all she had to do is make the trigger for herself to be released (that being the idiot). She gave him all the tools to lead Emilia to the version of the timeline where she can occupy Emilia's body and since he already has her power (residue of her soul if you will) she is already present in this world in a sense. Since all the timelines are infinite (everything will happen 100%), she just needed to take the path where the combination of choices leads to her freedom. She gets to go free and has someone who loves her, basically the thing she wants the most...

I got a dummy good theory here so just in case I got it right then gg if I'm wrong then damn. When I remembered how Subaru said "I will save you" to Satella/Emilia in their first face-to-face encounter and especially when 414 mentioned this part [6:42] it got me thinking about something. (and obviously, I could very well be wrong and maybe Subaru was saying that to Emilia and not to Satella).
My theory is that Subaru existed in that world (the world where Subaru is currently at) a long time ago in the past (400 years ago) alongside Satella. but when he died he lost his memories and was reborn in another world (where Subaru lived in before the events of S 1 EP 1). And since Satella has time and possibly even space manipulation powers she could also have the ability to travel to different universes which was how she found and brought Subaru to the world where he is currently.
Yes, I know this might be way off from the truth but remember again at around [6:42]. Idk if I forgot but I don't remember Subaru showing Emilia the outside world or him ever kissing her (until the "taste of death" episode). So if we were to follow the facts that 414 says then either we all interpreted what he said wrong or it could very well mean that Satella and Subaru knew each other in the past (400 years in the past).

the web novel mentioned subaru to be a sage candidate and the sage who sealed satella (with dragon volcania and sword saint reid) also has similar witch miasma surronding his body, it was also stated that volcania hesitated before sealing satella leading to a wound on his chest, this could mean they were friends, but that sage's name is flugel and was never given the credit of sealing satella ( he gave it to his servant shaula) and then disappeared for 400 years. In conclusion u could be right but i kind of dont see subaru becoming flugel, in the web novel subaru actually hates flugel and thinks of him as a bad person. I believe that satella's connection with emelia is blood relative, not counterpart.
Something you may have missed: the witch of envy is way more powerful than the more reasonable Satella personality, which is why Echidna was on guard when she showed at the tea party. She wasn't sure who it was; satella, or the witch. That said, if satella and Reinhardt would end in a draw.. does that mean the witch of envy would beat Reinhardt?

Satella's apoearance was outright 'merk' and grnuinely caring. And Subaru's rejection of her had less to do with her, and more to do with hinself and his confusion on why she made him feel the way he did about her.
And I'm pretty sure that she has no charm powers.... or at the very least, isn't using them on Subaru.

The reason Satella couldn't be killed was because she has the Return by Death ability herself. Hence, the first Sword Saint Reid, the Dragon Volcanica, and the Sage -Shaula- Flugel (who could also be Subaru in my theory) wasn't able to kill her, but seal her instead (thus Satella was unable to die and reset the timeline).
As for Subaru and Satella, they could have been lovers 400 years before. However Subaru was killed, causing Satella to absorb the witch genes to rewrite the past. And like Subaru, she probably used RTB repeatedly to save Subaru in the same way Subaru uses it to save Emilia.
When Subaru met Satella for the first time, she confessed her love to him and her reasons for that love. However, Subaru couldn't recall ever treating her in such way, because the Subaru who cared deeply for her and loved her was the Subaru from one of the deleted timeline. The situation was exactly like Subaru and Emilia. When Subaru told Emilia he love her because she saved her before, she couldn't recall ever saving him because it happened in a deleted timeline.
The counter to this is that I couldn't concile it with the Flugel = Subaru theory, which has plenty more evidence. Or I'm just too lazy to think... haa... huu...

There is one important thing to mention (I know this is in anime but have not gone through the manga...). Emilia clamed the name of the witch of envy in one of the first episode. The reason this is interesting to me is because of the real world practice in ceremonial magic. When deciding to work with magic, the Magician proclaims themselves as a magician and chooses a name to use. It can be considered a type of rebirth. Names hold the special meaning in magic. That being said, the witch has time powers, meaning she has the perception of time like a 4th dimensional being. Higher dimensional beings live in a non physical reality (astral plains or higher vibration dimensions) and since time only effects the physical reality (3rd and lower), anything outside of these sees time as a linear path. As an example, we see something in the second dimension like a book the same way. Yes, you can start reading from the start but there are no restrains and you can just jump to the end and see how everything ends... That being said, 4th dimensional beings actually have a total sum of information contained in all the "pages" so they actually see the totality of existence (whilst we miss information if skipping pages since we live in a 3rd dimension). Since the show proves that multiverse exists, there is 100% chance that every possible thing will happen. The fool is not actually resetting time, he is most likely jumping realities (since space-time is connected in the 3rd dimension). The reason I think this is the case is because he is actually the key to the cage. He is the only one who knows Emilia took the name in the first place, since he is the only one who was in both this and the current reality. So, the witch is moving him to the reality where she escapes, and she is already free in the sense (not limited by time, 100000 years are an instant, basically nothing when time does not affect you...), he is the one carrying a part of her (the power). Now all she needs is for him to bring her to the vessel (Emilia) or to make a child with her (her half blood and appearance and a piece of her power that the idiot carries...). That being said, maybe she is actually trapped in a non physical sense and Emilia is just her body, reincarnating, not being able to die from two perspectives (If she dies the world ends so things always get reset because of the idiot or she dies and the same body gets reincarnated holding the same fragment of witches personality-Emilia). Once the time is right, her body and her spirit (that is already in the idiot partially) combine into the whole (or they bang, making her whole in that sense, this is where the story most likely goes in my opinion). Oh, the name thing, like I said, the witch sees the totality of time, to her it does not matter if Emilia who claimed the name is dead, every Emilia is the same Emilia, one person split into multiple realities so the true Emilia is the totality of her choices, even if one out of infinites claims the name, they all did from the witches perspective...

Usually, in an anime, the biggest giveaway of a character's identity is the voice actor who voices them. Just like in the anime 'Date a Live', Reine Murasame's VA is the same as the mysterious Phantom, and it turned out that they are really the same character. Likewise, since Satella's VA is also Rie Takahashi, then there is a high chance that she is Emilia.
But some people might ask, "Then why did Satella kill Emilia when Subaru tried to reveal 'Return By Death' to her?" I would make the comparison with another anime, 'Future Diary'. In that anime, Gasai Yuno killed her 2nd world counterpart in order to take her place and be with Yuki. Satella probably doesn't mind killing her counterpart to be with Subaru, especially since she is the Witch of Envy.
actually I think it is a bit too far fetched to say that they are the same character, they are usually compared, associated and considered to be identical, so it makes sense that they would have similar voices, and thus the same voice actress. It is possible that they have a more personal connection, but to say that they are the same despite their differences in history and ability is a bit far fetched.

What if satella is a future version of emilia? Hear me out. Due to her having some amount of control over time AKA return by death. We know satella has some manipulation of time. Its not that far fetched to say that Emilia falls in love with Subaru in the future. This being the case. Maybe something happens to subaru, and given the state of obsession Emilia was in, in the previous episode, its also not to far fetched to say that Emilia could fall to her grief or loss of subaru entirely, after all, she's the witch of envy, maybe subaru goes home and she returns to the past to regain what she lost and try to change it, similar to the use of return by death by subaru.

I'm still on the bandwagon that the reason why Satella looks like Emilia is that because she IS Emilia. If Emilia is forced to used the Witch Factor of Envy vs Pandora (as the two are stated to clash with Emilia coming out as the victor by the author) and Pandora is able to use her powers to influence Emilia's memory to some degree to make her think her name is Satella a lot of things start to make sense. When the witch factor isn't in control Satella's personality is a lot like Emilia's (presumably). Emilia also has a big history with Subaru and is quite in love with him even if she can't properly express herself at times about it. This could be a big factor why Satella is claiming to have such a big history with Subaru as he brought her out of her shell. Lastly The Witch of Envy can control time so it's feasible to think she could warp herself back into the past say idk 400+ years and events can still play out as normal. Besides Emilia did say her name was Satella at first (epic foreshadowing on the level of Attack on Titan?). Sure it's just a theory but I believe there is solid evidence to make a case that they are the same person (or in this case Half-Elf). I also don't believe Satella is Emilia's mother or a direct decendant of Satella as her mother is most likely Minerva.

I'm so late to this video, but regarding your last fact, what if Satella is saying Aishiteru because she was in fact there in certain situations instead of Emilia? Like when Subaru first meets Emilia, what if that wasn't her after all, but that was Satella instead? Or anytime they were alone together, like without puck, what if puck doesn't come to them because Emilia isn't actually Emilia? And to add to that, Satella quotes Subaru was "giving her light, showing her the outside world, holding her hand when she was lonely, and kissing her when she was all alone". She never specifies when this happened.
Theory on how specifically Satella became the Witch of Envy:
We all know that Subaru has history with Satella and the events of 400 years ago but the only people that know are Satella, Volcanica and The Sage: Flugel. But theres also Al too but no one knows what the hell is with, perhaps she sent him into the future to make sure Subaru keeps his task to kill Satella which is why she gave him something similar to Return by Death.
Well the few things we know about Satella is that before she absorbed the Witch of Envy factors which she had zero compatibility with, which causes a second personality inside of her, and both of them are always fighting to gain control. AND Volcanica said to Emilia when he thought he was Satella that is he hadnt “faltered” that day then Satella wouldn’t have become the Witch of Envy, which made me think:

A possible scenario where: Satella and Subaru were with Volcanica that day then Subaru began to feel true envy that of Satella and Volcanica relationship and of Volcanica’s: power, fame, closeness with Satella which caused him to begin the Envy factors but Satella ended up absorbing them to prevent Subaru to become the Warlock of Envy, because she loved him so much that she didnt want him to be targeted by this tragic fate and decided to save him from it. Which means that if Volcanica hadn’t “faltered” that day then Satella would have been freed from the fate of being the Witch of Envy but not Subaru as he would become the Warlock of Envy. Which could mean that it could similar, to take a persons powers, their name, everything without causing the person to not be into a coma(sorry Rem) and remember everything (sorry again Rem), but they’re unable to say their themselves due to people seeing the Envy as the one they stole from. This can explain how Subaru is able to obtain the other Witch Factors from the people he has killed. But Satella must have altered his Authority that she gave him to make sure he only takes from the dead by his own hands. But Satella’s authority is completely different: its unknown what her authority is.
The main reason why Satella/Witch of Envy says “I love you” so many times could be because she felt so much love for Subaru in order to save him but since love was the emotion that she felt but at the same time the Witch of Envy was born and that was the only emotion she felt so thats why she says it so many times.

I kind of get the felling that Emilia is a vessel for the witch of envy, her true connection to the world and a way for her to get unlocked. That is why she chose the idiot, the one who holds obsessive love for "her" since that is the thing that she wants the most...
So here’s my theory after seeing Pandora’s power to alter reality and rewrite history in the recent episode, I believe that satella is actually Emilia from the future, because she basically looks exactly like an adult Emilia, and everything from the kiss Subaru and Emilia shared during the second half of season two makes it pretty similar to what satella experienced with him.
It seems possible especially since that also seems to be the case with another character.
I bet there’s a theory that Satella is actually just Emilia from the future.
I think besides the word she uses to say I love you, what she tells Subaru is super mysterious and interesting as well. About why she loves him. And what he’s done for her. According to the story, she’s been sealed since 400 years before Subaru arrived. She’s also the one who brought him to the rezero world. So how is any of that possible? How does she know Subaru so intimately and he doesn’t? On the one hand, it reminds me of how Subaru will experience moments with Emilia that deepen his love for her, but after he resets, she has no idea what he’s talking about and his feelings may seem rather creepy instead of loving. Another thing that is similar is what happens to Subaru in arc 6. I won’t spoil anything for anime only people. But if we look at how Subaru reacts to a certain situation there. We can see parallels between his initial experience in the world. Could Subaru have experienced a similar situation before the start of the series? And we just don’t know because we didn’t see that part? Or is it something else entirely? Super super interesting.

I think I found out the meaning behind Satella's name. She's named after satellite (a celestial body orbiting a planet). In the Mimagau IF story the male version of Satella is named Luna. Which is latin for moon and the moon is earth's only satellite.

The way I understand it, Echidna collected each witch's soul and placed them in the Tea Party Dimension at Sanctuary. Doesn't the body need to be dead in order for the soul to be collected? Is it just the body of Satella that was sealed in the shrine and her soul was somehow taken by Echidna while Satella was still alive? How does Satella's appearance in the Tea Party Dimension during the events at Sanctuary make any sense? If the Tea Party Dimension contains all of the witches since their souls are inside there, how did Satella end up there? It does not make any sense!!

Honestly when she first appeared I thought she was Emilia. Like when we saw her after Subaru kills himself with the handkerchief, I thought she was Emilia. Especially because later on Emilia seems to go crazy and was obsessed with Subaru. I’d assumed that satella in that initial appearance was just Emilia even more far gone. It wasn’t until she appeared at the witches tea party that I realized it wasn’t Emilia. Even than because of her words I thought maybe she was like future Emilia. Like Emilia gets sent back in time and becomes the witch of envy or something. But it all seems much deeper than that. Satellas actions are so intriguing regarding Subaru that I can’t wait to find out more about her

Imagine the following: Emilia continues the current timeline, encountering a scenario similar to Geuse and Pandora, using a Witch Factor that she’s incompatible with to defeat someone-maybe Pandora. Because Geuse went insane because he was not comparable with the Witch Factor, one can infer that, when not compatible, Witch Factors interfere with one’s sanity.
Although one could argue that Geuse went insane because he killed Fortuna, I’d argue that, from the moment he used the Authority of Sloth, he was destined to lose his sanity; to elaborate, he used the phrase “desu” and spoke about “love” like the Petelguese in Arc 3. He was already becoming Petelguese; Fortuna’s death made it happen quicker. Furthermore, Regulus mentioned that Geuse would suffer consequences, which I believe he meant the eventual road to insanity.
Emilia could have gone insane, developing the Satella personality, after absorbing Witch Factors that she’s incompatible with. This would satisfy the strong resemblance between Satella and Emilia, and it would explain why the same voice actor for Emilia also plays Satella; they’re the same person. Furthermore, when Echidna refers to Emilia as the “witch’s daughter,” it’s not capitalized in the sub-titles. This means that she’s not referring to a particular witch, such as Satella. If “witch’s daughter” were a proper noun-referring to Satella-it would be “Witch’s daughter.” Satella, like Emilia, is a half-elf, which means that even if Emilia’s father was a 1/2 elf and her mother was a human, this explanation is still satisfactory.
During the Witch’s Tea Party, Satella explains how Subaru saved her. After watching the most recent Re:Zero episodes, I can see how Subaru saved Emilia from her grief and sorrow from the past, helping her move on and forgive herself. In the novel, it goes into more detail, details that Subaru did for Emilia. This would explain why Satella, at the Witch’s Tea Party, told Subaru that he saved her, even though he didn’t remember.
Additionally, for this theory to work, I think Subaru is Flugel. There are far too many similarities between the two for it to be coincide. Shaula, apprentice of Flugel, mistakes Subaru for Flugel, where’s the same color coordination as Subaru, strikes similar poses to Subaru, and says that Subaru smells like Flugel. Additionally, to complete a task in the Pleiades Watchtower, the only way to complete the task was to know a constellation that existed in Subaru’s original world: earth.
I think that Subaru was summoned to the world of Re:Zero in the past and went by the name of Flugel. Flugel is said to be very wise, much like Subaru. Subaru has the knowledge of many lifetimes and experiences due to his many deaths that he eventually uses to his advantage. I believe that Subaru/Flugel had the ability to, in some capacity, manipulate time and experience different timelines, allowing him to make the best decision(s) at the time-which would make him, to others, appear as wise.
I think that Subaru knew that he would have to return to his home world, but that, when he left, he would forget about the world of Re:Zero. Knowing this, he planted items that would allow him to, over time, regain his memories and help himself when he returned to the world of Re:Zero, such as Flugel’s Tree, which he used to defeat the White Whale. I also believe that the answer to the Watchtower being a constellation from his world was designed by Flugel to help jog his (Subaru’s) memory back, even if only a little.
When Subaru returned back to earth, time moved normally, but, in the world of Re:Zero, I suspect time occurs much faster. 2 years on earth could, in theory, be 400 years in the world of Re: Zero. The world of Re: Zero remembers the Witch of Envy as nearly destroying the world, but I suspect Pandora may have altered the events of the past to erase her existence and blame Emilia/Satella.
This leads me to my theory:
Subaru/Flugel was summoned to the World of Re:Zero. He knew he would forget the events of Re:Zero when he left, so he left clues for him to figure it out and regain his memories and complete his mission (revealed at the end of this theory).
He gets summoned again to the world of Re:Zero-not having his memories as Flugel-by Satella/Emilia, befriending Emilia, treating her with kindness and genuinely loving her. She, Emilia, is saved by Subaru/Flugel (shown when Subaru confesses his love for Emilia during her first trial at the Sanctuary). Subaru, after defeating many Archbishops, takes their authorities. Eventually, due to dire and unfortunate circumstances (maybe from fighting Pandora), Emilia uses a witch factor, causing her to go insane, developing the Satella personality. Before Emilia completely loses her sanity, Subaru convinces her to send him back in time 400 years ago to try and prevent Emilia from becoming Satella by using his authorities that he took from the Bishops, taking on the persona of Flugel. Flugel then gives Guese the Authority of Sloth for some purpose, but Pandora messes this up. From that point, he, already having lived and died multiple times, is very wise and repeats the fore mentioned timeline until he is finally successful at saving Emilia/Satella and the world of Re:Zero from, whom I suspect, is Pandora.

Side Note: I think the Seal in Elior Forest, the door, is the doorway between Subaru’s world and the World of Re:Zero. Emilia, having the key to open the door, could have used it to bring Subaru to the world of Re:Zero. Pandora wants it to be opened, thus her name being a reference to “Pandora’s box,” because she wants access to his world for some reason yet to be revealed.
